Tracking via Bluetooth and Wi Fi

The technique of tracking tourists’ mobility using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology has emerged as a reliable and viable option for tourism planners and researchers (Shoval and Ahas, 2016; Musa and Eriksson, 2012). Recent studies have employed Bluetooth to measure the time it takes for people to pass through security (Bullock et al., 2010); assess movement flows at festivals (Versichele et al., 2012); and explore movement through cities (Verischele, 2014). Bluetooth has also been used to track high speed movement, such as car and cyclists, whereas Wi-Fi scanning, which takes a longer time to capture a signal, has been used to assess the flows of slower moving objects, such as tourists on foot, or other pedestrians (Abedi et al., 2013). Tracking using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth offers researchers the ability to track vast amounts of data on movement in a relatively short period of time. Verischele et al., (2012) describes the scanning of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals as ‘non-participatory’ research because individuals are not required to sign up and participate to studies of this nature, nor are they aware they are being tracked. The advantage of this approach is that tourists do not change their behaviour because of the knowledge that they are being tracked. This chapter will now review these forms of tracking technology, along with their advantages, limitations and ethical implications.

Accurate, fast, and automatic detection and classification of animal images is challenging, but it is much needed for many real-life applications. This paper presents a hybrid model of Mamdani Type-2 fuzzy rules and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) applied to identify and distinguish various animals using different datasets consisting of about 27,307 images. The proposed system utilizes fuzzy rules to detect the image and then apply the CNN model for the object’s predicate category. The CNN model was trained and tested based on more than 21,846 pictures of animals. The experiments’ results of the proposed method offered high speed and efficiency, which could be a prominent aspect in designing image-processing systems based on Type 2 fuzzy rules characterization for identifying fixed and moving images. The proposed fuzzy method obtained an accuracy rate for identifying and recognizing moving objects of 98% and a mean square error of 0.1183464 less than other studies. It also achieved a very high rate of correctly predicting malicious objects equal to recall = 0.98121 and a precision rate of 1. The test’s accuracy was evaluated using the F1 Score, which obtained a high percentage of 0.99052.

AbstractIn die-casting and injection molding, a conformal cooling channel is applied inside the dies and molds to reduce the cycle time. When the internal face of the channel is rough, both cooling performance and tool life are negatively affected. Many methods for finishing the internal face of such channels have been proposed. However, the effects of the channel diameter on the flow of a low-viscosity finishing media and its finishing characteristics for H13 steel have not yet been reported in the literature. This study addresses these deficiencies through the following: the fluid flow in a channel was computationally simulated; the flow behavior of abrasive grains was observed using a high-speed camera; and the internal face of the channel was finished using the flow of a fluid containing abrasive grains. The flow velocity of the fluid with the abrasive grains increases as the channel diameter decreases, and the velocity gradient is low throughout the channel. This enables reduction in the surface roughness for a short period and ensures uniform finishing in the central region of the channel; however, over polishing occurs owing to the centrifugal force generated in the entrance region, which causes the form accuracy of the channel to partially deteriorate. The outcomes of this study demonstrate that the observational finding for the finishing process is consistent with the flow simulation results. The flow simulation can be instrumental in designing channel diameters and internal pressures to ensure efficient and uniform finishing for such channels.

In order to solve the problem of the hand module’s online temperature measurement in Nitrile glove production line process, we have developed a set of moving objects or device used for online temperature measurement. The device is mounted infrared temperature sensor, by using PLC-controlled synchronous tracking technology it can track the hand module in the production line, so it can ensure the infrared temperature sensor and hand module synchronously measure its temperature correctly. By using configuration software kingview, we have developed mold temperature monitoring online measurement interface, real-time monitoring of the mold temperature opponents. After analysis of experimental results we concluded that the device work stable, acquisition of temperature reliably, so it has a promotional value.

1. Glide-comparison measurements were made on ten species of East African soaring birds using a Schleicher ASK-14 powered sailplane. Horizontal and vertical speed differences between bird and glider were measured by a photographic method, and used to estimate the bird's horizontal and vertical speeds relative to the air. The analysis refers to the white-backed vulture, since by far the largest number of measurements was obtained on this species. 2. A regression analysis using a two-term approximation to the glide polar yielded an implausibly high estimate of induced drag, which was attributed to a lack of observations at lift coefficients above 0.72. An amended glide polar was constructed assuming elliptical lift distribution and a maximum lift coefficient of 1.6 to define the low-speed end, while the high-speed end was made to pass through the mean horizontal and sinking speeds of all the experimental points. This curve gave a minimum sinking speed of 0.76 m/s at a forward speed of 10 m/s, and a best glide ratio of 15.3:1 at 13 m/s. It did not differ significantly (in the statistical sense) from the original regression curve. 3. In comparing the estimated circling performance, based on the amended glide polar, with that of the ASK-14, it was concluded that the rates of sink of both should be comparable, but that the glider would require thermals with radii about 4.3 times as great as those needed to sustain the birds. The conclusions are consistent with experience of soaring in company with birds. 4. In an attempt to assess the adaptive significance of the low-aspect-ratio wings of birds specializing in thermal soaring, the white-backed vulture's circling performance was compared with that of an ‘albatross-shaped vulture’, an imaginary creature having the same mass as a white-backed vulture, combined with the body proportions of a wandering albatross. It appears that the real white-back would be at an advantage when trying to remain airborne in thermals with radii between 14 and 17 m, but that the albatross-shaped vulture would climb faster in all wider thermals; on account of its much better maximum glide ratio, it should also achieve higher cross-country speeds. It is concluded that the wing shape seen in vultures and storks is not an adaptation to thermal soaring as such, but is more probably a compromise dictated by take-off and landing requirements. 5. The doubts recently expressed by Tucker & Parrott (1970) about the results and conclusions of Raspet (1950a, b; 1960) are re-inforced by the present experience.

Series of experiments are conducted in a single microchannel, where subcooled water flows upward inside a transparent and vertical microchannel. The cross section of the channel is rectangle with the hydraulic diameter of 2.8mm and the aspect ratio of 20. The working fluid is 3–15K subcooled and surface heat flux on the channel is between 0–3.64 kW/m2, among which two-phase instability at low vapor quantity may occur. By using a novel transparent heating technique and a high-speed camera, visualization results are obtained. The parameters are acquired with a National Instruments Data Acquisition card. In the experiments, long-period oscillation and short-period oscillation are observed as the primary types of instability in a microchannel. Instability characteristics represented from signals correspond well with the flow pattern. Moreover, effects of several parameters are investigated. The results indicate that the oscillating period generally increases with the heat flux density and decreases with inlet subcooling, while the effects of inlet resistance are more complex.

The aerodynamic force acting on the pantograph by the airflow is obviously unsteady and has a certain vibration frequency and amplitude, while the high-speed train passes through the tunnel. In addition to the unsteady behavior in the open-air operation, the compressive and expansion waves in the tunnel will be generated due to the influence of the blocking ratio. The propagation of the compression and expansion waves in the tunnel will affect the pantograph pressure distribution and cause the pantograph stress state to change significantly, which affects the current characteristics of the pantograph. In this paper, the aerodynamic force of the pantograph is studied with the method of the IDDES combined with overset grid technique when high speed train passes through the tunnel. The results show that the aerodynamic force of the pantograph is subjected to violent oscillations when the pantograph passes through the tunnel, especially at the entrance of the tunnel, the exit of the tunnel and the expansion wave passing through the pantograph. The changes of the pantograph aerodynamic force can reach a maximum amplitude of 106%. When high-speed trains pass through tunnels at different speeds, the aerodynamic coefficients of the pantographs are roughly the same.

Reconfigurable structures such as morphing aircraft generally require an on board energy source to function. Frictional heating during the high speed deployment of a blunt nosed low speed reconnaissance air vehicle can provide a large amount of thermal energy during a short period of time. This thermal energy can be collected, transferred, and utilized to reconfigure the deployable aircraft. Direct utilization of thermal energy has the ability to significantly decrease or eliminate the losses associated with converting thermal energy to other forms, such as electric. The following work attempts to describe possible system designs and components that can be utilized to transfer the thermal energy harvested at the nose of the aircraft during deployment to internal components for direct thermal actuation of a reconfigurable wing structure. A model of a loop heat pipe is presented and used to predict the time dependant transfer of energy. Previously reported thermal profiles of the nose of the aircraft calculated based on trajectory and mechanical analysis of the actuation mechanism are reviewed and combined with the model of the thermal transport system providing a system level feasibility investigation and design tool. The efficiency, implementation, benefits, and limitations of the direct use thermal system are discussed and compared with currently utilized systems.

Background: Research is ongoing relating to the analysis of a set of issues that arise in connection with the creation of the operating on the basis of vacuum magnetic technologies a transcontinental high-speed land transport corridor, connecting the eastern regions of China with Russia. As part of the variation calculus task, the geopolitical, economic, social, logistic, geographic, geomorphological, seismological, topographic components of the project are considered, in which it is assumed that the high speed overland route will pass through the north-western part of the historical region of Dzungaria. Aim: Find the most optimal from the point of view of the above components the location of the most important section of high speed overland route passing through Central Asia. Methods: Variational methods for solving an optimization problem with the use of a computer math system. Results: After creating a fairly informative and versatile picture of the region in question, the foundations of the corresponding mathematical models are built. Conclusion: The New Dzungarian Gates is a key element in choosing the location of a high-speed overland route based on VMLT.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The high-speed videogrammetric measurement system, which provides a convenient way to capture three-dimensional (3D) dynamic response of moving objects, has been widely used in various applications due to its remarkable advantages including non-contact, flexibility and high precision. This paper presents a distributed high-speed videogrammetric measurement system suitable for monitoring of large-scale structures. The overall framework consists of hardware and software two parts, namely observation network construction and data processing. The core component of the observation network is high-speed cameras to provide multiview image sequences. The data processing part automatically obtains the 3D structural deformations of the key points from the captured image sequences. A distributed parallel processing framework is adopted to speed up the image sequence processing. An empirical experiment was conducted to measure the dynamics of a double-tube five-layer building structure on the shaking table using the presented videogrammetric measurement system. Compared with the high-accuracy total station measurement, the presented system can achieve a sub-millimeter level of coordinates discrepancy. The 3D deformation results demonstrate the potential of the non-contact high-speed videogrammetric measurement system in dynamic monitoring of large-scale shake table tests.</p>

Many biological species apply the power amplification mechanism for locomotion, feeding, and protection. In power amplification, a biological system rapidly releases stored-energy by achieving a very high velocity over a short period of time, resulting in high power output. Such power amplification allows insects such as locust to jump and Mantis shrimp to kill prey by its appendage strike. Biological elastomeric polymers such as resilin play a vital role in the power amplification process because of their high stretchability and resilience. In synthetic materials, although<br>crosslinked rubbers display high stretchability and resilience, such is difficult to achieve in the water-containing systems such as in hydrogels, commonly considered materials for mimicking biological tissues. Here, we have used a simple free-radical polymerization of acrylic acid (AAc), methacrylamide (MAAm), and polypropylene glycol diacrylate (PPGDA) to obtain hydrogels. In these gels, the polymerized AAc and MAAm act as hydrophilic blocks and PPG as hydrophobic, and the gel structure resemble that of resilin consisting of hydrophilic and hydrophobic components. The bioinspired gels display very high stretchability, as high as eight times the original length, and greater than 90% resilience. In addition, the gel samples can reach a retraction velocity of 16 m/s with an acceleration of 4X10^3 m/s2. These values are similar or better than those observed in water containing biological systems, such as appendage strikes in Mantis shrimp, etc. To the best of our knowledge, such performance has not been reported in the<br>literature for any water containing networks.
