The article identifies the positive and negative aspects of using social networks in the performance of professional duties of journalists. It was found that with the development of social networks, the journalist’s life became easier. After all, it has become easier to search for information, more access to sources and people who can comment on certain events. Access to sources and individuals who can comment on certain events has also been greatly facilitated. Access to politicians, public figures and celebrities who can be written on social networks has also been greatly facilitated. In the process of research, the method of systematic study and analysis of individual social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Tik Tok, was used to write the article. As well as through systematization, analogy and generalization, the materials of in-depth interviews conducted specifically for this study were studied. Research has shown that journalists can use social networks in different ways in their work. Much depends on the specifics of the job, the tasks and responsibilities of the journalist. That is why the specific cases, situations and experiences of media workers are important, which show how best to use social networks at work depending on the needs and tasks of the journalist, as well as his editorial office and company. This paper outlines the main features and characteristics of social networks, identifies ways to use them by journalists, describes the positive and negative aspects of the use of social networks. It is also analyzed which social networks are suitable for the use of certain tasks in the work of a journalist. Researchers outlined the main opportunities and benefits of using social networks by various organizations and companies, and part of the focus was on the use of this tool by employees of media companies. However, there is no single policy, rules and guidelines for use yet. In general, the tasks set and solved in the research process do not cover the topic of social networks. Further research can be provided on the features and characteristics of social networks, their use by journalists.

This study focused on social networks and business performance among Igbo businessmen in Ibadan, South-west Nigeria through the exploratory research design. Social exchange, social network and social capital theories were employed as theoretical framework. Twenty-six in-depth interviews, key informant interviews and case studies were conducted with purposively selected respondents in four business locations in Ibadan. The results showed that among the factors that facilitated migration of the Igbo to Ibadan were their interest to learn a trade, their inability to attain higher education, and having a relative in Ibadan. The types of social networks available showed that social network was not location bound, as all the respondents belonged to town progressive unions and mutual benefits/cooperative associations. Social networks played vital roles in business performance, including social support, access to loan, business growth and expansion. The main challenges to maintaining adequate social network in business were distrust, envy, unbridled competition, dishonesty and inability to keep terms of agreement. The study concludes that social networks have positively influenced the business performance of migrant Igbo in Ibadan. There is need for the Igbo to strengthen their social networks through honesty, forthrightness, and transparency in all their dealings.

Inter-organizational cooperation is based on the development of relationships between partners who have attractive tangible or intangible values which may be the subject of exchange. In inter-organizatio-nal cooperation, at least two key stages of relationship development can be distinguished. The first con-cern is initiating ties between potential partners; the second, strengthening, expanding and deepening these ties. The authors attempted to identify the values that affect the relations between organizations cooperating on a joint project in the cultural sphere. The research process was based on the assump-tions of grounded theory. The incomplete induction method was used. In order to solve this research problem, the authors analysed a case study of a network project led by the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolis, entitled Metropolitan Theatres Night, and in addition, conducted qualitative research (in-dividual in-depth interviews and written surveys), amongst organizations cooperating on this project. The research proved that the assessment of key values to project partners at the stage of initiating and developing cooperation is varied. At the stage of initiating relations, the financial benefits of coopera-tion and the prestige associated with it are most important. In contrast, at the stage of cooperation development financial benefits come first, while other elements are of secondary importance. The rese-arch results show that the partnership does not use many opportunities resulting from the synergy of resources or joint learning during the long period of cooperation. In connection with the above, the authors defined recommendations that may serve to improve inter-organizational cooperation in this type of project and in other partnerships.

In the present study, a measurement tool was developed to determine the virtual identities of social network users, and the virtual identities of these social network users were examined with respect to gender, time spent on social networks, number of their social network profiles and visibility using the relational survey model. The study was carried out with a total of 671 social network users, 252 females and 419 males. The research data were collected using the Social Network Identity Management Scale developed within the scope of the study. The five-point Likert-type scale made up of four factors and 23 items was found to explain 55.29 % of the total variance (Cronbach Alpha =.93). At the end of the research process, a 23-item Social Network Identity Management Scale’s validity and reliability were confirmed. The finding obtained in the study demonstrated that the virtual identities of the users with more than one profile differed within the context of such sub-dimensions of the scale as liking and privacy. In addition, it was found that the changes in the virtual identities increased depending on the time spent on social networks.

This article question generic homogenising representations of ‘the migrant’ by providing an examination of the multivalent ways in which social differences contours migration processes. Migration scholars often reproduce generic homogenising typologies of ‘migrants’, such as the two opposing migrant analogies ‘from the Global South’ (‘the transnational migrant’, who flows through social networks from the Global South to the developed North, seeking economic gains) and ‘from the Global North’ (‘the lifestyle migrant’, who chooses to migrate from developed countries to places they believe offers them the potential of a better quality of life). Through the examination of the journeys of Brazilians in London, this article draws attention to the connections and contexts of both sending and receiving societies, as well as the diversity existing within the Brazilian population abroad. As is argued within this paper, such an analysis allows for better understanding of how the experiences of Brazilians in London are directly shaped by the intersection of multiple social markers, resulting in what I call ‘differentiated journeys’. Brazilians navigate different levels of constraints and constantly re-formulate their journeys due to their class, gender, nationality and documental status. This allow us to frame migratory experiences beyond generalizing and homogenising representations. The empirical research combines an 18-month ethnography in places of leisure with 33 in-depth interviews with Brazilians in London.

Population arrangement to islands for settlement is one of the important policies in many ways of each nation. This study was conducted to provide an understanding of the current situation and impacts of the migration to Tho Chu Island, Phu Quoc District, Kien Giang Province, Vietnam. In-depth interviews and survey questions were used to collect preliminary data on displaced people, insular living conditions, positive and negative impacts of the migration process on the socio-economic development on the island. They are also supplemented by secondary data which were collected from various sources in research process. The study shows that the migration to the island not only helps to supplement the labor force for the island, contributes to economic and labor structure restructuring on the island but also contributes to diversifying island economic activities and expand the space, enrich the cultural life of the island. However, the process of migration to the island also poses a number of problems for the people and the government on the island.

Unmet need for family planning (FP) is women that cannot meet their need of contraceptives. Factors to cause unmet need of contreaceptives seen from Minangkabau culture in Nagari Lambah of Ampek Angkek Sub-district of Agam District in 2014 was not yet known.  This was a qualitative research. The informants were all couples of reproductive age (PUS) in Nagari Lambah with quote sampling. Data was collected with in-depth interviews to PUS and 4 public figures, namely Niniak Mamak, Alim Ulama, Cadiak Pandai, and Bundo Kanduang.  The results showed that the causes of unmet need for FP were prohibition from husband, desire for certain gender of child, and negative myths and rumors about contraception. This culture was related to matriarch and Harato Pusako in Minangkabau. In addition to culture, religion also influenced respondents’ unmet need of FP.

BACKGROUND In the new media age, the public searches for information both online and offline. Many studies have examined how the public reads and understands this information but very few investigate how people assess the quality of journalistic articles as opposed to information generated by health professionals. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine how public health care workers (HCWs) and the general public seek, read, and understand health information and to investigate the criteria by which they assess the quality of journalistic articles. METHODS A Web-based nonprobability sampling questionnaire survey was distributed to Israeli HCWs and members of the public via 3 social media outlets: Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. A total of 979 respondents participated in the online survey via the Qualtrics XM platform. RESULTS The findings indicate that HCWs find academic articles more reliable than do members of the general public (44.4% and 28.4%, respectively, P<.001). Within each group, we found disparities between the places where people search for information and the sources they consider reliable. HCWs consider academic articles to be the most reliable, yet these are not their main information sources. In addition, HCWs often use social networks to search for information (18.2%, P<.001), despite considering them very unreliable (only 2.2% found them reliable, P<.001). The same paradoxes were found among the general public, where 37.5% (P<.001) seek information via social networks yet only 8.4% (P<.001) find them reliable. Out of 6 quality criteria, 4 were important both to HCWs and to the general public. CONCLUSIONS In the new media age where information is accessible to all, the quality of articles about health is of critical importance. It is important that the criteria examined in this research become the norm in health writing for all stakeholders who write about health, whether they are professional journalists or citizen journalists writing in the new media.

This interpretive study provides original insights into the socioemotional experiences that contributed to referee attrition in English grassroots football. Data were generated using an online survey (n = 251) and in-depth interviews (n = 20) with former referees. Using complementary symbolic interactionist and relational conceptualizations of identity, social interaction, and emotional pain, the analysis addressed the participants’ interpretations of their problematic encounters with the various significant others (e.g., coaches, managers, players, spectators, and administrators) that comprised their respective social networks in grassroots football. Importantly, the participants described several emotionally painful issues related to match day environments, disciplinary proceedings, and deployment and development processes that simultaneously coexisted alongside and exacerbated one another. The findings present important implications for those individuals and governing bodies who are responsible for referee retention.

From the onset of the digital dawn, visually constructed new communication technologies, in particular social networks, have occupied a significant place in the lives of children. With increasing compactness of digital technologies, its availability increased also and helped social networks to a central role in the lives of adults and children as well. The shrinking of technology enabled most families to afford a tablet for their children who used the technology for starting an active social network life. This process brought with it endless debates about the actual control conditions of the children's usage and those conditions that were advisable. This study utilized in-depth interviews with six parents of children in the 4-7 age group, consisting a focus group to define the motives of adults who enabled their children with access to “digital technologies” and “social networks.”
