One of the conditions for obtaining high-quality pig products is the use of feed additives, which contain all the necessary biologically active substances, eliminating their deficiency in feed and acting as catalysts for metabolic processes in pigs. That is why the aim of the study was to study the effect of feed additive “Sylimevit” on the enzymatic and non-enzymatic parts of the antioxidant system of piglets after weaning. Two groups of piglets were formed – control and experimental, in the amount of 10 individuals in each group, selected on the principle of analogues – age, breed and body weight. During the weaning period, the piglets were kept under the sow in special machines, had constant access to the mother, and from the age of 5 days – free access to concentrated feed. Feeding of animals was carried out in accordance with the norms for a given age of pigs. Prior to the study, a clinical and physiological examination of the piglets was performed. Their general condition and activity when eating food were taken into account. On the 28th day of life, the piglets were weaned from the sow and regrouped from different nests in order to be further maintained during the period of fattening and rearing with a change in the structure of the diet, which served as technological stress for the animals. From the age of 5 days, piglets of all groups were fed pre-starter feed. Piglets of the experimental group, from 21 to 40 days of age, were additionally fed the feed supplement “Sylimevit” at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight per day. Feeding piglets Silimevit feed enhances their antioxidant status. The use of this feed additive in piglets contributed to the activation of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic parts of the antioxidant defense system of piglets after weaning, as indicated by an increase in blood 35-day-old piglets superoxide dismutase activity by 26.9 % (P < 0.001), catalase – 41.1 % (P < 0.001), glutathione peroxidase – by 52.7 % (P < 0.05), glutathione reductase – by 53.5 % (P < 0.05), the content of reduced glutathione – by 75 % (P < 0.001). This is due to the fact that silimevit contains active substances such as milk thistle and vitamins, which are strong direct-acting antioxidants and directly interact with free radicals and reactive oxygen species.

Abstract For the harmonious development, intensive growth and preservation of young animals in the diet it is necessary to include various feed additives, complexes, adaptogens that enhance the metabolic processes in the body. The purpose of the study is to study the feasibility and effectiveness of the use of adaptogen in calves rations. To achieve this goal in industrial conditions, 30 calves of Holstein breed at the age of 5–7 days were selected and divided into two groups of 15 animals each. The duration of the experiment was 90 days. Calves of the experimental group in milk, and then in concentrates included adaptogen “Energy” in the amount of 250 mg / kg body weight. The control animals were fed according to the standard scheme in the farm. The feeding mode for all calves was in accordance with the growing technology. The adaptogen includes: succinic, citric acid, inulin, oligofructose, methionine, lactic acid bacteria immobilized on aluminosilicate (patent RU 2493725). The results of the experiment (table 1) showed that the inclusion of an adaptogen provided a high growth rate throughout the entire period. At the end of the experiment, the body weight of calves of the experimental group was 6.52% (P > 0.05) higher compared to the control.

This study was conducted to observe the effect of different administration method of garlic and neem on growth performances, feed efficiency and serum biochemical parameters for safe broiler production. The experiment was done for a period of 32 days with 384 one-day-old straight run broiler chicks. The broiler chicks were divided into six groups each of 64 birds and replicated to four subgroups each of 16 birds. The dietary groups were; control (basal diet; no additives), antibiotic (basal diet + antibiotic), garlic in feed (basal diet + 0.25% garlic powder), garlic in water (basal diet + garlic extracts), neem in feed (basal diet + 0.25% neem powder) and neem in water (basal diet + neem extracts). Results showed that the body weight and body weight gain increased significantly (P<0.05) in both the garlic and neem groups compared to the control group. Feed intake was not different (P>0.05) among the treatment groups. Garlic in feed and water and neem in feed groups showed better FCR (P<0.05) compared to the other treatment groups. There were no significant (P>0.05) difference in meat yield, bone development and dressing parameters except head and gizzard in different dietary groups. Supplementation of garlic with feed and water significantly (P<0.05) decrease cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL compared to the other groups. However, both the garlic and neem groups showed numerically higher HDL compare to the control group. There were no 0significant (P>0.05) differences in serum glucose and GPT among different treatment groups. GOT was significantly (P<0.05) lower in neem groups than that of garlic and antibiotic groups. Additive groups showed higher profitability than control group. Based on the results of the study, it may be suggested that the garlic and neem could be used both in feed and water as potential feed additives for safe broiler production. Bang. J. Anim. The article gives scientific substantiation of using silicon-containing new feed additive “Energosil” for replacement gilts. The studies were conducted in pig-breeding complex of the Center for Practical Training of Agricultural Specialists in Mordovia Republic. There were three experimental groups of replacement gilts (10 animals each). The effect of various dosages of Energosil (5.0, 7.5, and 10 mg per kg of body weight) on digestibility, nutrient utilization, and animal growth energy was studied. The most optimal dosage of a new feed additive in their rations was revealed, which constituted 5 mg / kg of the animal live weight. It was established that the animals from the first experimental group, who received silicon-containing feed additives of this amount digested the nutrients of the diet better than their counterparts from the other groups. Compared to the control group, the digestibility of dry matter increased by 3.62% (p<0.05), organic matter by 3.29% (p<0.01), crude protein by 4.09% (p<0.001), fat by 4.30% (p<0.01), cellulose by 3.79% (p<0.01) and nitrogen-free extractives by 2.03% (p>0.05).Replacement gilts of the first experimental group, who were given Energosil in the amount of 5 mg / kg body weight in addition to the basic ration, retained nitrogen in their bodies by 17.1%, calcium by 55.9% and phosphorus by 69.7% more than their counterparts from the control group. It contributed to an increase in body weight of gilts from the first group compared to control counterparts by 10.8%. Increased dosages of Energosil (7.5 and 10 mg / kg body weight) also had a better effect on the growth energy of gilts compared with the control group. The feed additive in the amount of 7.5 mg kg of animal live weight contributed to an increase in animal weight compared with control counterparts by 6.21 kg or 4.8% (p<0.05), with a third experimental group by 4.4 kg or by 3.4% (p<0.05). When given Energosil in the dosage of 10 mg/kg, the body weight of gilts from the third experimental group was higher by 1.81 kg or 1.4% (p> 0.05) compared with the control counterparts.

In the aquaculture sector, a strategy for the more efficient use of resources and proper disease control is needed to overcome the challenges of meat production worldwide. Modulation of the gastrointestinal tract microbiota is a promising approach for promoting animal health and preventing infection. This feeding experiment was conducted to discover the phytonutrient-induced changes in the gastrointestinal tract microbiota of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Acclimatized animals aged 7 months (30 weeks) were divided randomly into five experimental groups to investigate the effects of the applied feed additives. The dietary supplements were manufactured from anthocyanin-containing processing wastes from the food industry, specifically the production of Hungarian sour cherry extract, synbiotics from fermented corn, and fermentable oligosaccharides from Hungarian sweet red pepper seeds and carotenoids from Hungarian sweet red pepper pulps, applied at a dose of 1%. The gut contents of the animals were collected at four time points throughout the 6-week study period. To track the compositional and diversity changes in the microbiota of the carp intestinal tract, V3-V4 16S rRNA gene-based metagenomic sequencing was performed. The growth performance of common carp juveniles was not significantly affected by supplementation of the basal diet with plant extracts. Phytonutrients improve the community diversity, increase the Clostridium and Lactobacillus abundances and decrease the abundances of potentially pathogenic and spoilage bacteria, such as Shewanella, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter and Aeromonas. The phyla Proteobacteria, Tenericutes and Chlamydiae were positively correlated with the body weight, whereas Spirochaetes and Firmicutes exhibited negatively correlations with the body weight. We hypothesize that the application of phytonutrients in aquaculture settings might be a reasonable green approach for easing the usage of antibiotics.

This experiment was carried out at Animal Farm, College of Veterinary Medicine, Baghdad University, from Mar. up to Sept. 2010. Twenty eight Awassi ram lambs of 4-5 months old were equally divided into four groups of similar body weight and fed 2% of concentrate diet of body weight with grazing for 3-4 hours a day. The first group (C) and the third group (V) were fed concentrate diet free of cumin seeds; while the second group (CU) and the fourth group (CV) were fed the same amount of concentrate diet contain 3% of cumin seeds. All animals were grazed daily for 3-4 hours as one group. The third and the fourth groups were vasectomized by close vasectomy operation at the beginning of the experiment. The results revealed that cumin seeds used as feed additives for Awassi ram lambs caused significant (P<0.05) increase in live animal body weight, fasting and empty body weight, hot and cold carcass weights also it had an effect on carcass measurements, empty digestive and stomach weight, most carcass joints weight, rib eye muscle area, Longismus dorsi weight, lean and fat weight in the rack joint compare with the control group. However vasectomy had significant (P<0.05) increase in the body weight, fasting, empty and hot and cold carcass weight, the weight of pelt, full and empty digestive system, most of joint weights, fat tail, fat weight of the rack joint, while the 4th group showed higher values than the most carcass traits compared with the 2nd and 3rd groups and significantly (P<0.05) higher than the control group (1st group). It is concluded that vasectomy and cumin seeds have positive effect on lamb performance and carcass traits. Cumin seeds can be used as effective and cheep feed additives. Further studied are required to prove the suitable ratio of cumin seeds addition alongside with castration in other farm animals.

ABSTRACT A study was made of the effect of nine progestational compounds on the genital tract of female foetuses. The progestins were injected subcutaneously into pregnant rats from the 15th to the 21st day. The influence of these compounds was studied on the female foetuses by: I measuring of the ano-genital distance at birth II inspection of the gonads III histological examination of the lower part of the body, the ovaries and the clitoris. It appears that classification of sex by assuming that the ano-genital distance of more than 3 mm is always of the male species is incorrect, as shown by examination of the gonads. Furthermore that new-borns with a normal ano-genital distance and rightly classified as females may show histological changes in the genital tract, indicative of masculinization. It is concluded that the study of the masculinizing effect of progestins should be carried out by inspection of the gonads and serial sections of appropriate organs and tissues.

The purpose of the study is a comprehensive assessment of morphological changes in the placenta and lungs to detect early signs of congenital pneumonia in extremely premature infants.Materials and methods. Protocols of post-mortem examinations of 23 preterm newborns died from severe respiratory failure were analyzed. The average gestational age of the newborns was 26.4±2.7 weeks and the body weight at birth was 972.4±355.8 grams. In the sample, 78.3% of infants had an extremely low birth weight (ELBW). At birth, all newborns presented severe asphyxia. Newborn underwent several types of respiratory therapy since birth: Mechanical ventilation was performed in 65.2% of newborns since their birth, non-invasive ventilation was performed in 26.1% of cases, and 8.7% of patients underwent oxygenotherapy through a facial mask. In all cases, there was an unfavorable course of the neonatal period, a progressive deterioration of newborns' condition, and a lethal outcome. A comprehensive histological examination of the placenta and the lungs of deceased premature newborn infants was performed.Results. Congenital infections of different localizations remain the leading cause of death.Congenital pneumonia and generalized infections are clinically manifested at birth by severe perinatal hypoxia and respiratory failure. In the case of congenital pneumonia, the morphological patterns are polymorphic and characterize the severity of lung damage. For some newborns, these patterns include accumulation of exudates and fibrin, segmented leukocytes, fragments of basophilic coccal microflora, and a large number of colony forming bacilli, and desquamated alveolocytes with a deformed nucleus are visualized in the deformed lumen of the alveoli and bronchi. Diffuse lymphoid-leukocyte infiltration in the septa and respiratory parts of the lungs are typical for other infants. Histological examination find lumpy or lamellar eosinophilic hyaline membranes in alveoli in specimens from these newborns. Diffuse, focal or confluent segmentonuclear infiltration in various lung structures is commonly combined with hyaline membranes of various localizations and sizes. Hyaline membranes were detected in 93.5% of cases.Conclusion. Very early preterm delivery is associated with intrauterine pneumonia and systemic infection in extremely premature infants. Early clinical and laboratory signs of intrauterine infectious lung include severe perinatal hypoxia, very low Apgar score and laboratory test findings (hypoxaemia and decompensated metabolic lactate acidosis) that are resistant to standard resuscitation measures. Hypoxemia and decompensated metabolic acidosis persisting during the first hours of postnatal life indicate the severity of intrauterine lung damage and require a rapid change of treatment aimed at normalization of lung function, prevention of complications in the respiratory system, hemostasis and central nervous system. Clinicians should be better informed about the features of early postnatal adaptation of extremely premature infants with congenital pneumonia to provide appropriate treatment.
