This qualitative, classical Delphi study explored the apparent lack of corporate commitment to prioritized Green Information Technologies (GITs), which could delay the economic benefits for maximizing the use of energy resources.  The purpose of this study was to examine the leadership barriers impeding the adoption of GITs.  A panel of nineteen Information Technology and Sustainability experts participated in this study.  The panels' members were from industry, government, and academia.  The NVivo 9 software was used for the qualitative data analysis and reports the results.  The leadership barriers identified in this study as impeding were the lack of understating of GIT and the benefits it can yield for organizations.  To gain energy cost reductions, and to meet future environmental regulations, a paradigm change is needed to integrate GIT into organizational strategies, processes, and culture.  The results of this study give useful recommendations to rationalize the adoption of GIT to overcome implementation barriers.

Despite the significant growth of information technologies investments, evidence of their influence on organization performance remains inconclusive. Nowadays it is very important to realize whether expected economic benefits of information technologies investments are being recognized in organizations. Currently organizations can no longer afford basically to lose their money in e-business initiatives without developing and using suitable metrics to measure the effectiveness of such investments and to find out the relationship between e-business and organization performance. The study describes research aimed at determining the exact nature of such e-business performance measurement systems. The basic objective of this study is to discover performance measurement system for evaluating the efficiency of e-business solutions.

ABSTRACT: In modern organizations, information technologies (IT) often help drive organizational strategies. As such, IT require both judicious planning and oversight. While executive oversight over IT is quite common nowadays, several studies indicate that due to the many benefits and risks associated with IT, more/better board-level oversight may be in order. Unfortunately, there is a scarcity of research on the involvement of board members in IT governance. We attempt to partially fill this gap by empirically examining the degree to which the 27 IT governance questions that make up an IT board governance framework recommended by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants are raised by the board members of 94 Canadian firms. We also investigate the extent to which the questions are considered important. Our findings show that: board members use only some of the IT governance questions and not all the recommended ones; there is a gap between the IT governance questions board members ask and the ones they perceive to be important; and the number and importance of IT governance questions that board members ask appear to vary with both their organization’s strategic use of IT and the need for IT reliability. Implications for research and practice are offered.

African-Americans are more likely to be diagnosed with schizophrenia than persons of other ethnic identities, necessitating an understanding of this group’s perceptions of the mental health system. Interviews with 10 African-American caregivers of persons with schizophrenia underwent qualitative data analysis to elucidate perspectives on medication adherence and their caretaking roles and supports. Medication adherence-related themes (interactive strategies, organizational strategies) and non-medication-related themes (support of patient, support of caregiver) were detected. These results describe the complex role that African-American caregivers of persons with schizophrenia undertake and identify possible interventions to address related mental health disparities.

Disaster management is important to reduce the risk casualties as well as the environment and economic impacts. One of the stakeholders in disaster management in Indonesia at the local level is the Regional Disaster Management Agency (Badan Pengelolaan Bencana Daerah – BPBD).  In the process of disaster management, there are several phases. Thi initial phase is known as the prevention phase, which is an attempt to eliminate or reduce the possibility of a threat. In this phase, the role of information technology is important to increase the efficiency in disaster management. One of the information technologies that is used widely in disaster management is the Geographic Information System (GIS). This study explores the role of GIS technology employed at BPBD of Batu City in disaster management. The Research Qualitative Data Analysis (RQDA) method is employed based on the questionnaire data. The results show that the role of GIS technology is very limited. The disaster management at the Batu City is mostly done by the traditional method with the manual approach. The role of technology is limited it needs to be improved. Suggestions for increasing the role of technology is to conduct training on the use of GIS for employees. It is expected to increase the role of technology in disaster management.

Introduction Information Technologies (IT) may serve assistive roles that facilitate the interaction of people living with cognitive disabilities (CD) within their environments. However, there are some notable concerns related to privacy threats associated with the use of IT. The purpose of this study was to examine how assistive technology developers may best adapt over time to develop their IT to be resilient against threats to privacy. We therefore focused on the following areas: (1) developers’ knowledge and practices related to privacy protection; (2) challenges when applying recommended practices, and; (3) preferred channels to acquire knowledge. Method We conducted semi-structured interviews with ten technology developers who are members of the AGE-WELL network undertaking research and development of assistive technologies to be used by people who have cognitive disabilities. We used an inductive-deductive method for the analysis of qualitative data to examine participant responses and generate themes related to the study goals. Results Principal themes that emerged from the data include practices specific to populations with CD, challenges to obtaining consent to use of information, and preferred channels to acquire knowledge. Conclusion We identify areas of focus for developing a knowledge mobilization strategy to improve relevant policies and practices.

Background Advance Care Planning (ACP) communication is difficult to implement in hospital. Possibly this has to do with the fact that the concept is not well tuned to the needs of hospital professionals or that they experience implementation barriers in practice. Aims The aim of this study was to investigate what is valued in having ACP conversations by hospital professionals (physicians, nurses, psychologists and social workers) and what they experience as barriers and facilitating factors for having ACP conversations with patients. Methods A Delphi study consisting of two rounds with respectively 21 and 19 multidisciplinary experts from seven European countries was organised. Data were analysed using content analysis and descriptive statistics. Results Participants agreed that ACP is valued mostly because it is seen to improve transmural continuation of care, emotional processing of the loss of a patient, and serenity at the end of life. Reported barriers are patient characteristics blocking patient-centred communication and a lack of knowledge to have these conversations. An important facilitator is multidisciplinary cooperation. Conclusions There is consensus by experts from different settings and countries suggesting that these results can theoretically be applied to hospital settings in Europe. This study reveals that hospital professionals value ACP in hospital practice, but that they encounter several barriers to its implementation.
