ABSTRACT Based on the preliminary study, it revealed that the 5th grade students in some elementary schools in Bandung Regency had low ability to perform reading comprehension. This can be seen from students’ low ability to express explicit meanings, define main idea, search for keywords,  retell the contents of the text with their own words, create a concept map, and understand the message of the author. Based on this finding, there is a need to develop instructional devices based on specific learning models to improve reading comprehension.  The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of using integrated thematic instructional  based on Interactive-Compensatory Model (ICM) to improve reading comprehension among 5th grade students. This study applied quasi-eksperiment method. This study used sample of 123 students of 5th graders in 2 elementary schools. The results of this study show that the use of instructional  based on ICM had significant effect on improving reading comprehension of informational text among grade 5 elementary school students. This was evidenced by the difference of students’ reading comprehension ability before and after learning by using thematic and integrated instructional based on ICM. Keywords: Interactive-Compensatory Model, Instructional Integrated and Thematic, Reading Comprehension   ABSTRAK Hasil observasi menunjukkan siswa kelas 5 di beberapa sekolah dasar di Kabupaten Bandung memiliki kemampuan membaca pemahaman yang lemah. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam mengungkapkan makna yang tersurat, menentukan pokok pikiran, mencari kata kunci, menceritakan kembali isi teks dengan kata-kata sendiri, membuat peta konsep, dan memahami pesan penulis. Berdasarkan data ini, maka diperlukan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran berbasis model pembelajaran khusus untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menguji pengaruh penggunaan perangkat pembelajaran tematik terpadu berbasis model Interactive-Compensatory untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas 5 sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen kuasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan  sampel 123 siswa kelas 5 di dua sekolah dasar . Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan pembelajaran tematik terpadu bernuansa model Interactive-Compensatory  berpengaruh signifikan pada peningkatan  kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks informasi siswa kelas 5 sekolah dasar. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan adanya perbedaan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa pada saat sebelum dan pada saat sesudah pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pembelajaran tematik terpadu bernuansa model Interactive-Compensatory. In Indonesian context, based on the observation, 5th grade elementary school students in Bandung Regency had low reading comprehension ability for informational text. This can be seen from their low ability to express explicit meanings, define the main idea, search for keywords and retell the contents of the text with their own words. Given this circumstance, it is necessary to improve task design using particular learning models to improve students’ reading comprehension ability. Therefore this study was aimed at investigating the effect of the use of task design based on Interactive-Compensatory model to improve reading comprehension of 5th grade. The study used quasi experimental method. It applied observation, pre-test, post-test and interview to collect data. There were 136 samples of 5th grade participating in this study. The findings showed that there was a significant influence since there was a difference in sudents’ reading comprehension ability to read informational text before and after they were treated using task design based on the Interactive-Compensatory model.

The purpose of this study is to find out the enhancement of students' reading comprehension between those who were taught using TPS (Think-Pair-Share) technique and those who are taught using the Jigsaw technique. The study discussed the recent developments in reading pedagogy. This study used a quantitative research method and comparative design by measuring the achievement of pre-test and post-test. The result of this study shows that p.value (sig) = 0.187 > α (0.05). Therefore, it is concluded that there is no significant difference in the student's reading comprehension ability. Even the difference is not significant, based on the mean score of the classes before and after being taught using those techniques, this study indicates that the use of Think-Pair-Share and Jigsaw can enhance students’ reading comprehension ability. The study also provides a new interpretation of existing sources on teaching method and offers new insights of teaching reading method by emphasizing collaborative learning. This study aimed at finding out the influence of visualization on students’ reading comprehension ability. Quantitative approach was employed in carrying out this research. The data were collected through test as it was the main instrument of this study. The data analysis was carried out using manual statistics calculation to find out the mean score before and after the treatment. From the result, it was obtained that the most effect that visualization has is on the inferring; second, it is on details; then it is followed by main idea. The smallest influence is made on vocabulary. Thus, it can be concluded that visualization while reading can help students a lot in terms of inferring, details, and main idea.

The background of this research is an instrument of learning for reading comprehension which in general is still dominated by an instrument in the form of print out which makes the students’ interest to read is reduced. In addition, this instrument is usually done manually or handwritten so that the students’ work must be corrected manually and require some time to get the results. This study aims to develop instruments or measuring devices for reading comprehension in the Primary School in Pekanbaru and find out the feasibility of measuring devices for reading comprehension skills. This product is Macromedia Flash 8 based namely "MaCaMi" which stands forMari Membaca dan Memahami. The research method used was the 4D model with four stages, such as the define stage, the design phase, the develop phase, and the dessiminate stage which is limited to the third stage. The data of this study were obtained from product design expert validation questionnaire, questionnaire validated by linguists, teacher response questionnaire and students response questionnaire. The data were generated quantitatively and analyzed by using the assessment criteria to determine the product quality. The results of this study showed the assessment of product design experts in draft 1 had an average percentage of 69.61% with the appropriate category then had increased in draft 2 to 90.56% with the very feasible category. The results of  the feasibility test by linguists in draft 1 with had average percentage of 95.30% with the very feasible category then increased in draft 2 to 97.20% withn the very feasible category. The results of the teacher's response to the reading comprehension measuring instrument in the Primary School in Pekanbaru developed by researchers obtained an average percentage of 93.50% with a very good category and the results of students' responses to the measuring instrument obtained an average percentage of 89.90% with a category very good. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the product developed by researchers is feasible to be used as a measure of reading comprehension ability of primary school students.

The purpose of this research is to determine students' reading comprehension skills before and after using the PQ4R learning model. This research was motivated by preliminary studies, which showed that students' reading comprehension skills are still low in conventional learning models. This is a quantitative research consisting of a one-group pretest-posttest research design. Data were obtained from 22 students of state elementary school 03 Sontas using a written test of 6 (six) questions. The research showed differences in students' reading comprehension skills before and after learning using the PQ4R model.

Service Activities Dental and Oral Health Care is part of the School Dental Health Enterprises (UKGS) which aims to improve the knowledge, attitude and the ability to behave in the field of healthy living oral health. These activities include outreach, shared toothbrushes and dental examinations, but oral health care has no knowledge, so the researchers are interested to know the difference before and after the service activities of oral health care on knowledge, attitude, oral health status elementary students. The purpose of this research is to know the difference before and aftercare service activities against oral health knowledge, attitudes, and oral health status of elementary school students. This study used a quasi-experimental method with the design of One Group Pre-test - Post-test Design. The population in this study were elementary school students in the area of ​​Gamping Sleman Yogyakarta with a sample of 179 students. Sampling techniques using saturation sampling. Results: Based on the analysis of different test (paired sample t-test) showed significant differences in knowledge, attitudes, oral hygiene, decay and Decay students between the before and after care service oral health (p<0.05). Conclusions: 1). Knowledge, attitude and degree of oral hygiene students after health care services increased oral better 2). There was a decrease in rate-test decay (teeth better ) and Decay (permanent teeth ) on the student after the service of oral health care.

Dental healthcare is very important since dental and oral hygiene should be maintained. Statistics showed that more than 80% of children in developed and developing countries suffer from dental disease. This study aimed to see the safety of OHIS (Oral Hygiene Index Simplified) in primary school students who got and did not get little dentist cadre training in Bangli Regency in 2019. The study was done in an experimental design: pre and post-test with control design, which was conducted in August-September 2019. The sample in this study is 366 students. The difference in OHIS scores before and after treatment in the control group and treatment group was carried out by the bivariate Mann Whitney U Test. The results of the study showed that before dental health training was conducted, there were 54.3% of primary school students in the treatment group with good OHIS score criteria, and after the training was carried out as many as 98.4% of the students in the treatment group had a good OHIS. Additionally, prior to the training, 57.5% of the control group had fair OHIS criteria score. Then, after the training was carried out, 73.7% of the control group had good OHIS score. Hence, the study concluded that there was a significant difference in the OHIS of primary school students who got little doctor training prior to and after the training. Also, there was a significant difference in the OHIS of the students who did not get such treatment before and after the training.


STEM education does not follow traditional teaching methods but is based on interesting and critical thinking activities. It is important to increase students' interest and awareness of STEM educational activities to encourage them to learn STEM. STEM-based education can help students or children learn and participate in activities based on real-life experiences. We need to let them know that what they learned in STEM today is not only building their own future, but also the cornerstone of the country. Since no study has been done to know the difference in the academic achievement and basic attitude of the students towards this approach based on gender school types (government and private); before and after the conduction of STEM programme this study will give STEM practitioners strategies to design and integrate STEM content purposefully for the students ; so that students can develop a positive attitude towards STEM programme which will in turn help them to acquire higher academic achievement and make study more effective. This study will also through light on the teachers to make STEM programme more effective. This study will also be of immense help to the school authorities while opting for better STEM programme
