Key Words: Hegemoni, dominasi, penjajah, terjajah. Abstract Hegemony is the colonial’s effort done to legitimate its domination. By this hegemony, the colonizer is dominant to colonize. In this research, the writer attempts to elaborate about form and model of hegemony of colonial’s discourse in Djenar Mahesa Ayu’s short story “mereka bilang, saya monyet, by using postcolonial theory.  To analyses this short story, the researcher would use the Homi K. Bhabha’s theory about postcolonial, that are stereotype, mimicry, and hybridity. The third concept is conducted to keep colonizer’s hegemony to colonized. The colonizer’s anxiety to colony encourages colonizer to do all effort to convince colonizer’s influence to colony. The colonizer attempts to do more ways by repetition of  colonizer’s discourse.  Based on the results of the analysis on their short story “mereka bilang, saya monyet”, the researcher found that the hegemony of colonial discourse was carried out by means of inculcating the identity of character “saya” who was considered a minority group. On the other hand, the mimicry made by character “saya” is an attempt to get recognition as a subject that has identity. The impersonation was a form of colonial discourse hegemony in character “saya” to make it look the same as the Dog's Head representing the invaders. Repetition of the attitude shown by the Dog Head to character “ saya” is a form of hegemony to convince.  Key Words: Hegemony, domination, colonizer, colonized.

Judicial astrology, predicting future events on the basis of celestial positions, has been a fraught topic in Islamic literature. On one hand, the spectre of humans knowing their future with certainty would weaken the principle of human responsibility. On the other hand, given God's omnipotence, it would be entirely possible that the heavens were a means for God's control over the earth. Previous research on religious reactions to astrology in Islamic civilisation has used Ḥadīth and Kalām texts to conclude that the prevailing attitude was one of disapproval. My current research uses Tafsīr literature to argue that this attitude of disapproval was far more nuanced. This paper will first survey what early Tafsīr has said about astrology and, second, present late antique Jewish and Christian texts that could be the sources or context for the views on astrology found in early Tafsīr. To help explain some of the differences between early Tafsīr's view of astrology and early Kalām's view of astrology, the third section of this article covers certain statements made in early astrology texts in Islamic civilisation, texts composed, most likely, after the discussions of astrology in early Tafsīr. Fourth, I will present some early reactions of mutakallimūn to astrology. I will conclude that discussions of astrology in early Tafsīr, as well as most Islamic literature dating from before 287/900, were not concerned with astrology's causal framework, or even with predictions in principle, but rather with a defense of prophecy. I will also argue that the discussions of astrology in early Tafsīr were not as critical as the reactions of the early mutakallimūn to astrology.

The 3rd millennium BC appears to be a key period of development of the historical settlement landscape in ancient Egypt. After the unification of the country, the process of disappearance of the predynastic socio-political structures and settlement patterns associated with them significantly accelerated. Old chiefdoms, along with their centres and elites, declined and vanished. On the other hand, new settlements emerging in various parts of the country were often strictly related to the central authorities and formation of the new territorial administration. Not negligible were climatic changes, which influenced the shifting of the ecumene. Although these changes were evolutionary in their nature, some important stages may be recognized. According to data obtained during surveys and excavations, there are a number of sites that were considerably impoverished and/or abandoned before and at the beginning of the Old Kingdom. On the other hand, during the Third and Fourth Dynasties some important Egyptian settlements have emerged in the sources and begun their prosperity. Architectural remains as well as written sources indicate the growing interest of the state in the hierarchy of landscape elements and territorial structure of the country.

The author analysed the language of the first Polish translation of the eighteenth-century poem “Metai” [The Seasons] by Kristijonas Donelaitis, a Lithuanian Lutheran pastor. The translation was made in 1933 by a socialist activist and close associate of Józef Piłsudski, Kazimierz Pietkiewicz. The analysis showed that the language of the translation is peculiar. On the one hand, this peculiarity consists in refraining from archaizing the translation and the use of elements that are close to the translator’s style of social-political journalism (e.g., dorobkiewicz [vulgarian], feministka [feminist]), on the other hand, the presence at all levels of language of peculiarities characteristic for Kresy Polish language in both its territorial variations. These are generally old features of common Polish, the retention of which in the eastern areas of the Polish Rzeczpospolita was supported by the influence of substrate languages, later also Russian, or by borrowing. This layer was natural in the language of the translator, born in Ukraine, who spent part of his life in Vilnius, some in exile in Russia. This is the colourful linguistic heritage of the former Republic of Poland.

The difference between intent (dolus) and negligence (culpa) was rarely emphasized in codified medieval laws and regulations. When compared to the legal statements related to intent, negligence was mentioned even more rarely. However, there are some laws that distinguished between the two concepts in terms of some specific crimes, such as arson. This paper draws attention to three medieval Slavic legal documents – the Zakon Sudnyj LJudem (ZSLJ), the Vinodol Law and the Statute of Senj. They are compared with reference to regulations regarding arson, with the focus being on arson as a crime committed intentionally or out of negligence. The ZSLJ as the oldest known Slavic law in the world shows some similarities with other medieval Slavic legal codes, especially in the field of criminal law, since most of the ZSLJ’s articles are related to criminal law. On the other hand, the Vinodol Law is the oldest preserved Croatian law and it is among the oldest Slavic codes in the world. It was written in 1288 in the Croatian Glagolitic script and in the Croatian Chakavian dialect. The third document – the Statute of Senj – regulated legal matters in the Croatian littoral town of Senj. It was written in 1388 – exactly a century after the Vinodol Law was proclaimed. When comparing the Vinodol Law and the Statute of Senj with the Zakon Sudnyj LJudem, there are clear differences and similarities, particularly in the field of criminal law. Within the framework of criminal offenses, the act of arson is important for making a distinction between intent and negligence. While the ZSLJ regulates different levels of guilt, the Vinodol Law makes no difference between dolus and culpa. On the other hand, the Statute of Senj strictly refers to negligence as a punishable crime. Even though the ZSLJ is almost half a millennium older than the Statute of Senj and around 400 years older than the Vinodol Law, this paper proves that the ZSLJ defines the guilt and the punishment for arson much better than the other two laws.

Indecision charged with promise: Images of life and childhood in Henri Bergson’s philosophy Abstract: In a passage in his Évolution Créatrice, Bergson reclaims the image of the child to argue that living nature works through divergent tendencies. Although Bergson’s work doesn’t focus specifically on education, it does contain references that, on the one hand, reclaim the creative and creating nature of childhood, while on the other hand accentuating the childlike nature of élan vital’s movements (vital impetus). These references are part of Bergson’s repertoire of imagery and demonstrate how his thought evokes uneven readings. The invitation to cross the image of life as childhood with that of childhood as life ultimately evokes a rethinking of what inhabits us as constitutively other: the child we were and the nature we are. And it is through the notion of image – as a form of dynamic contact with reality – that we will find some answers for Bergson’s suggestion that schools promote a childlike knowledge (enfantin).Key-words: childhood; child; nature; image; Bergson.
