Introduction: Oral ulcer lesions are one of the most common lesions in the oral cavity. The prevalence of traumatic ulcers is quite high compared to other oral lesions. Brown algae, Sargassum sp. is one of the algae contains flavonoids, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, and calcium, which play a role in wound healing and has economic value. This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of Sargassum sp. ethanolic extract on traumatic ulcers healing in the labial mucosa of Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus). Methods: 28 Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus) weighed 150-200 grams. The samples were divided into 4 groups (K1, K2, P1, P2); each group consisted of 7 mice. K1 group was administered with Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC), K2 was administered with 0.2% hyaluronic acid gel, P1 was administered with 50% Sargassum sp. extract gel, and P2 was administered with 75% Sargassum sp. extract gel. In each group, the ulcer was made on the mice labial mucosa; then the ulcer diameter was measured and observed on day 1 and day 7. Results: The mean diameter ± standard deviation of traumatic ulcer calculations were K1 (1.09 ± 0.40), K2 (1.81 ± 0.67), P1 (1.39 ± 0.43) and P2 (2.16 ± 0.49) respectively. One way ANOVA test results showed significant differences in K1, K2, P1, and P2 groups. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of Sargassum sp. is effective in accelerating the traumatic ulcers healing at the concentration of 75%.Keywords: Traumatic ulcer, Sargassum sp., wound healing.

ABSTRACTSawilangit leaves (Vernonia Cinerea (L.) Less) is a plant that contains flavonoids as an antipyretic. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of flavonoid compounds from ethanol extract of sawilangit (Vernonia cinerea (L.) Less) leaves as an antipyretic in male white rats Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus) induced by DPT vaccine. A total of 15 male rats were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely the negative control group (CMC 1%), the positive control group (paracetamol), and the ethanol extract group of sawilangit leaves with a dose of 200 mg, a dose of 400 mg, a dose of 800 mg. Each mouse was induced intramuscularly with a DPT vaccine at a dose of 0.3 ml. Temperature measurements were carried out before and after induction, then every 30 minutes after giving the test material from the 30th minute to the 180th minute. Data were analyzed statistically with One Way ANOVA and continued with LSD test to see significant differences between treatments. The results showed that the ethanol extract of sawilangit leaves had an antipyretic effect on male white rats Wistar strain..Key words: Antipyretics, Vernonia Cinerea, male white rats ABSTRAKDaun Sawilangit  (Vernonia Cinerea (L.) Wound refers to partly damage or loss of body tissue. One way that has been used by the people in helping the process of wound healing is the use of medicinal plants, such as gotu kola (Centella asiatica). Gotu kola (Centella asiatica)  is kind of plant that found almost in all territories of Indonesia which functions as a cell revitalizing substance which quickens wound healing those are burnt, skin ulcer and to prevent keloid. This study is aimed to know the effect of giving gotu kola leaf extract (Centella Asiatica) against to the healing of the wound incision on male white rats (Rattus Norvegicus) wistar strain. This study is a pure experimental research using the randomized post test only control group design with the subjects are 30 male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain that were divided into 3 groups, namely K1, K2, and K3. The incision wound were made on the back of all white rat in each group with a length of ± 2 cm and a depth of ± 2 mm. The wound in the negative control group (K1) was not given any substance; in the positive control group (K2) was given povidone iodine 10%; and in the treatment group (K3) was given gotu kola leaf extract at a dose of 37,5 mg/150 grBB. The study was done for 10 days. Furthermore, wound observation and monitoring is held. Then the results were processed by using One Way ANOVA. The result study of wound incision healing on male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain shows that there is significant difference among the negative control group (K1), the positive control group (K2), and the treatment group (K3) on One Way ANOVA test which significant p-value are 0,027 (p < 0.05). The result of Post-Hoc LSD test also shows a significant differences among the K1 and K3 groups, and K2 and K3 groups which significant p-values are 0,011 and 0,038 (p < 0,05). From these results, it can be concluded that gotu kola leaf extract (Centella asiatica) effective on quickens wound healing of the wound incision on male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain.

Tawas ut tuber (Ampelocissus rubiginosa Lauterb.) is empirically used in wound healing by Dayak community. The present study was undertaken to assess wound healing activity of gel from ethanol extract of A. rubiginosa tuber using parameters of the closure of wound length, tensile strength, and histopathological observations. This study used twenty-five male Wistar rats divided into five groups: positive control (Bioplacenton®), negative control (placebo gel), and three of testing groups with gel extract (concentrations of 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5%). Wound healing activity was evaluated to 4 cm length and ± 2 mm depth incision wound model on the back skin of rats. The measurement of wound length was observed on the day of 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th used quantitative analyze. On the day of 20th, animal was anaesthetized and the skin has been taken for tensile strength evaluation and histopathological observations. This study showed that group treated with gel extract at the concentration of 2.5% experienced higher wound healing activity with average percentage of wound closure of 99.00% ± 0.16, tensile strength 3.8541 gram/mm2, and proved with the re-epithelization, neocapillarization, and increase collagen density appeared in histopathological observations. Based on this study, gel from ethanol extract of A. rubiginosa tuber possesses wound healing activity.
