The article analyzes an Internet meme as the newest information product of the society and a result of its intellectual and artistic practices. The analysis of the role of the Internet memes, created by means of the popular artistic images modification in the modern digital culture is made. Such methods as semiotic and hermeneutic analysis of the Internet memes are used in the research work. The authors seek to explore the reasons for the popularity of memes in the processes of symbolic production and exchange in contemporary society and the modern digital culture, which is the purpose of this study. We consider that Internet meme created by using and modifying artistic images is a new phenomenon in human public life and new type of communication. As a hypothesis, a distinctive feature of the Internet meme is the surprise and laughter it causes in the “man of the Internet”. The main result of this article is the analysis the role of Internet memes in the newest information space and their specific features as a special information product of the modern digital culture. The authors draw attention to the popularity of Internet memes caused by an increase in information chaos in the modern symbolic production and exchange and, therefore, a person’s confusion when meeting a large number of information.

ABSTRACTIn fact, the cultural relationships between different groups are not something specific to contemporary society, but the globalized world is the place where cultural communities relate in a more intense and complex way. The dynamics of globalization approach groups of different cultures causing tensions and resistances. In the Arts, this phenomenon is represented in different ways. In Literature - in this case addressed to youth - understood as a cultural and symbolic production, there are various practices of meaning, which are responsible to build ways of seeing, being and living. These practices point out the perception of plural identities. Artists, with the construction of their aesthetic and political projects, can refuse hegemonic discourses, fighting against prejudice, disrespect, exclusion, denying the ideology based on dominant values. The main purpose of this study is to analyze, in the new perspectives of Comparative Studies, the role of literary art and their intercultural dialogues.RESUMOApesar de os entrecruzamentos culturais não serem algo específico da sociedade contemporânea, é neste mundo globalizado que as comunidades culturais se relacionam de maneira mais intensa e complexa. A dinâmica da globalização cada vez mais aproxima grupos de culturas diferentes, provocando tensões, negociações e resistências. No campo das artes, esse fenômeno cultural é representado de diferentes formas. Na literatura - neste caso a que se destina à juventude - compreendida como produção cultural e simbólica transformadora, agenciam-se práticas de significação, ou seja, formas de construir modos de ver, de ser e de estar no mundo que favorecem a percepção das identidades múltiplas. Pela elaboração de seus projetos - estético e político -, os artistas põem em revista os discursos hegemônicos, marcados muitas vezes pelo preconceito, pelo desrespeito, pela exclusão, desnudando relações de poder, classificações e rotulações instituídas a partir de uma ideologia forjada a partir de valores dominantes. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar, dentro das novas perspectivas dos Estudos Comparados, o papel da arte literária em seus diálogos interculturais.

The Internet archives kept by heritage libraries are analysed, focusing specifically on that new type of expression characteristic of web culture and digital folklore, the meme. Five paradigmatic examples of heritage institutions engaging in web archive initiatives are explored: the Library of Congress, British Library, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Biblioteca Nacional de España and National Library of Australia. Specific assessment categories are defined for the study. The findings reveal a lack of collection policies for such representative objects of today’s mass culture and identify the challenges both for the custodial institutions and for research in the future.

Considering effective communication, linguists traditionally focus on the type of the addressee and the conditions of their interaction with the addresser. The paper analyzes some transformations of oral genres on the Internet, including public discussions on the role of Orthodox faith in modern life, the functions of the religion in the spiritual and moral education of the contemporary society and its relation to the scientific breakthroughs of the 21st century. The analysis of video materials shows that their main addressee is the youth audience. Thus, it determines the methods of argumentation chosen in public Internet communication. The YouTube program “I Don’t Believe in God: Talking to an Atheist” has guests of all ages and professions: clergy, scientists and popularizers of science, politicians, journalists, interpreters, doctors, artists, movie critics and bloggers. The speakers are obviously oriented toward the predicted audience, complicates philosophical issues are discussed using real-life examples and involving both logical and emotional arguments. The article also focuses on the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the conversation. Notably, a lively exchange of opinion boosts the Internet users’ attention and encourages the multidimensional interpretation of the views. A variety of perspectives sparks the youth interest in the discussed issues, facilitates critical thinking, inspires viewers to search for the truth themselves and to form sound judgments on religious faith and atheism. The results of the research may be used to improve students’ public speaking skills.

The examination of the ‘incoming’ generation as a new sociocultural type of contemporary human remains relevant at all times. The eldest representatives of the new generation (so called ‘Generation Z’ or the ‘Digital generation’) are today’s alumni who crave to take over the world, re-arranging it in accordance with their interests and views, and claim to become the ‘leading generation’ of our century. Research into this generation, the attempt to understand it is undoubtedly an important task. This material is dedicated to the matter of defining the interrelation between individualisation and the massification in ‘generation Z’ representatives. The research methods used in the study are as follows: philosophic-anthropological analysis, content-analysis, and scientific data interpretation. The research work contains the thesis that tendencies of individualisation and massification in the lives of ‘digital children’ are inextricable and consistent. The role of the Internet in general and social networks in particular in the process of individualisation of Generation Z is discussed, touching on the problem of ‘stereotypness’, by which individualisation of a person begins to be built in cyberspace. The new generation, on the one hand, is somewhat disconnected from the real world, feeling and creating its uniqueness and individuality, and on the other hand, maintaining a sense of community, unity and solidarity, but only often through a virtual environment. At the same time, consolidating quickly and going offline as needed.

This chapter reports the results of a theoretical and practical research work on simulation, both as a teaching strategy that creates a dynamic and experiential situation which enables participants to take on roles in relation to the variables to be tested or modified, and the learning content that the students need to acquire. With reference to the training and educational needs of contemporary society, the theoretical premises underlying simulation are considered and examined in relation to recent findings regarding the process of learning and teaching and the acquisition of knowledge, as well as some recent research results. On the basis of the findings, it appears necessary to reflect on the synergy triggered through simulation. It particularly emphasized the role of simulation in the integration of different skills and types of knowledge, leading to the overcoming of the compartmentalization of knowledge and its fragmentation into discrete subjects or disciplines. Questions remain open regarding the role of ICT in the whole simulation process.

The article touches interrelated complex of problems characterizing visual communication in the digital space of modern society. The idea of forming of visual culture with a special mental constitution is being actualized. It is revealed that visual communication is a key phenomenon of the social and cultural reality of the Internet. The collision of verbal and visual that is exposed to changes in perception between the subject and the other is considered taking into account its specific qualities. If you look at the representational turn as a phenomenon of cultural consciousness opening in the space of the Internet, its quixotic duality could be noticed. The author believes that the conceptual discourse of visualization reveals new meanings and ideas, both in the thinking of some individual (as a part) and in the space of a multicode universe as a whole. It is concluded that an increasing role of visual communication in the perception of the world at all levels leads to a new type of personality.

In the last decade, many social networking sites and platforms are increasingly being driven by a user-generated content system. Now, users can be actively involved as a consumer and producer (prosumer) simultaneously. One of the digital platforms that has become a trend in the last decade is news aggregator. This research will examine how the control practices are carried out by the manager or administrator of UC News application, one of the largest news aggregator in Indonesia, to the content writers on the platform. The methodology that is applied in this research employs virtual ethnography to obtain representation of digital culture mediated by the internet. The data were obtained from the responses to a set of open-ended questions to six informant selected according to rate of activity in the platform and the period of involvement as a content writer in UC News. In conventional work systems, the relationship between workers and superiors often restricted by the geographical constraints. However, the development of the internet has changed many things. Clients, bosses, workers, and end-user products can be located in different corners of the planet. This research found that the controls carried out by ‘the superiors’ on content writers were not lost, but rather ran more naturally and manipulatively so that workers did not feel objected to them. The new form of capitalism in the prosumer era shows a new type of hegemony that is increasingly not simple.

Globalization, in its earlier stages, was expected to erode national and ethnic identities. In contrast, ethnicity and ethnic affiliations persisted, growing socially and politically. This paper examines the role of the globalizing new communications technologies on this process, focusing on Diasporas. The study of trans-state networks based on ethnic solidarity, connections and affinities in the framework of social and political science is quite recent. Following a clarification of the distinction between classical and modern Diasporas we analyse a particular case study, that of the Jewish Diaspora. This diaspora was an early adopter of computer-based communications and the Internet for a wide range of purposes. Early events are described including the diffusion of the Internet to Israel, the planning of a Global Jewish Information Network, Israel 2020 macro scenarios for Israel and the Jewish People and the decision on Jewish Peoplehood through communication technologies. A survey of historical systems (Responsa, BBS, and Usenet) follows by a description of the Jewish population and the wide variety of Jewish Web based activities today. These include the Institutional landscape; Jewish media — press, radio, video and blogs; the impact on Jewish religious observance; Jewish genealogy; Online dating; Social networks; Jewish education; Online learning; Jewish Studies and Digital Humanities; Jewish memory. Judaica Europeana supports the activities previously described by aggregating and facilitating the access and the re-use of Jewish digital culture. Europeana is the leading global digital library for cultural heritage as well as a lively eco-system for relevant stakeholders.

The ongoing developments in the field of information technology and, in particular, information and communication technologies (ICT) combined with the new digital culture that is rapidly emerging on the internet create a new perspective in the teaching of popular culture in primary education. More specifically, the teaching of popular culture can be greatly enhanced by learning experiences based on digital learning objects. Moreover, with the use of IT tools and enriched teaching can enhance the relationship between local folklore research and research work in primary education in the context of flexible zone or cultural programs (school activities). The internet at large and online technologies, Web 2.0, can transfuse special dynamic entities to popular culture evidence.

Intermediaries and especially information-intensive infomediaries have been hailed as winners of the new electronic economy. The need for infomediaries arises from the reorganization of several markets as a result of the Internet. The main claim of emerging e-business companies during the hype at the turn of the millennium was shortening of the value chains. This meant bypassing middle-men with a direct contact to end-customers, in many cases, consumers. However, the millions of Web sites failed to attract customers, simply because they could not be found among all the others. The solution to this problem was the reintroduction of middle-men actors; in this case, a new type of player, the infomediary, focusing on gathering, organizing, and utilizing essential customer information. The infomediary maximizes the value of information by helping clients to locate relevant products and services based on their individual needs and wants or on their personal profiles. In this chapter, we intend to provide a typology of infomediaries, their roles, and value creation models, and demonstrate infomediary evolution by analyzing exemplary cases.
