This research is entitled “Geguritan Ni Sumala: Philological Studies”. Assessment of Geguritan Ni Sumala uses philological theory. This study aims to obtain the text of Geguritan Ni Sumala which approaaches the original. The data supply phase uses the observation method and simak method helped by note taking technique. Next, in data analysis phase using comparative descriptive method, transliteration uses standard transliteration method, following by a comparation of three texts through text criticism, text edition using the legger method, the translation uses combination literal translation and idiomatic translation. In the stage of presenting the result of data analysis using formal and informal method by deductive-inductive tecnique also assisted by exposure, tables, and themes. The text edition is complemented by criticism apparatus which is presented separately and translation is also presented separately with the source text. The result of this study are, from the three of GNS manuscripts that have been compared through text criticism there are some copy/write errors from each text such as substitution, adition, omission, lakuna, interpolation, ditography, transposition, and corrupt. By correcting the copy error presented Geguritan Ni Sumala text which assumed to be correct based on the evidence three of contained manuscripts. Geguritan Ni Sumala uses Balinese Kawi language. Next in text edition for literacy guidelines used are Acri and Griffiths opinions (2014: 371-372) and combined with Damais opinions (1995: 125). aside from that, the spelling used in text edition are spelling guidelines for Balinese script pairs with Latin letters and Balinese letters also guidelines Pasang Aksara Bali. Indonesian translations are also included in the Geguritan Ni Sumala text.

The research entitled “Speech Acts of Prohibition in Comic Yotsubato by Kiyohiko Azuma” is aimed to identify various form of speech acts of prohibition and the factors behind the use of the said speech acts in the comic Yotsubato by Kiyohiko Azuma. This research applied the theory of speech acts by Wijana (1996) and level of politeness factors according to Mizutani and Mizutani (1987). The method of collecting data used in the research is attentive observation method, which is done by observing the speech in the comic. Afterwards, the obtained data is noted by applying note-taking technique. The data analysis is done by using pragmatic identity method. Later on, in the data presentation, informal method is used. The result of the analysis indicates that in the comic Yotsubato, found 9 data that categorized as direct speech acts of prohibition and 7 data that categorized as indirect speech acts of prohibition. Then, there are 4 factors behind the use of the speech acts of prohibition in the comic Yatsubato, namely 1) familiarity factors; 2) age; 3) social distance; and 4) gender.

This research entitled “The News Report of Metro TV Reporter: The research of effective sentence”. The aim of this research was to find out the description, error, and percentage of effective and ineffective sentence in the news report of Metro TV reporter. The used theory refer to some ideas from the experts, those are Keraf (1980), Razak (1986), Sugono (2001), Putrayasa (2014), and Agency of Language Development and Coaching (2014). The used method to collect the data in this research was observation method, then the data was analyzed with qualitative descriptive method, quantitative method, and agih method. Method of presenting analyzed data that used in this research were formal and informal method. Data source in this research was from twelve videos of news report of Metro TV reporter in 2018. The result of this research showed that Metro TV reporter's understanding of the use of effective sentences reach 30, 22% from 12 news reports. This is proven by the discovery of 97 ineffective sentences out of 139 sentences. The error of ineffective sentence in news report of Metro TV reporter was divided into four kinds, those were the accuracy of information 7 sentences (5.03%), stiffness 6 sentences (4,32%), efficiency 48 sentences (34.53%), multiple errors and plural 36 sentences (25.90%). The total percentage of the error ineffective sentence as a whole was 69.78%. Based on this percentage, the highest frequency of errors was in the aspect of efficiency.

Comparative adjectives of Kangean Dialect of Madurese Language (KDML) are the basic adjectives that has A+D+(-an) stucture or lebbi. This study explored the function of comparative adjectives in KDML and its impact for the Kangean community. The theories used to explore and determine the comparative adjective function are descriptive and pragmatic theories. The research is a qualitative research. The method used in this research is the participatory observation method. The data were obtained from interviews with the dialect speakers by voice recording and field note-taking. Besides, researchers used the introspectiveve method (reflective-introspection method). The data that has been collected were transcribed into written form of orthographic transcription, then translated and classified according to its function. The method applied for analyzing the data are equivalent and distributional method. Meanwhile, the methods used for displaying the results of data analysis are informal and formal steps. The results showed that in KDML, there are several functions of comparative adjectives, namely to motivate, praise, admonish, command, insinuate, advise, criticize and accuse. Meanwhile, the impact of adjective utterances, people become more optimistic, comfortable, easy to appreciate, entertained, strong, cautious, deterred, and humble. Adjektiva komparatif bahasa Madura dialek Kangean (BMDK) merupakan adjektiva dasar yang memiliki struktur A+D+(-an) atau lebbi. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi fungsi adjektiva komparatif dalam BMDK dan dampaknya bagi komunitas Kangean. Teori yang digunakan untuk menggali dan menentukan fungsi adjektiva komparatif adalah teori deskriptif dan pragmatik. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode observasi partisipatif. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara dengan penutur dialek Kangean melalui rekaman dan catatan lapangan. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan metode introspektif (metode reflektif-introspekturis). Data yang sudah terkumpul ditranskrip ke dalam bentuk tulisan dengan transkripsi ortografis, kemudian diterjemahkan dan diklasifikasikan sesuai fungsinya. Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah metode ekuivalen dan metode agih dan metode yang digunakan untuk menampilkan hasil analisis data adalah langkah-langkah formal dan nonformal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam BMDK terdapat beberapa fungsi adjektiva komparatif yakni untuk memotivasi, memuji, menegur, memerintah, menyindir, menasihati, mencela dan menuduh. Sedangkan dampaknya adalah masyarakat lebih optimis, peka, mudah menghargai, terhibur, kuat, berhati-hati, jera, dan rendah diri.

(Title: Metaphorical Analysis of Japanese Idioms Containing Insect Elements) This research Metaphor analysis for Japanese idiom formed from the word insect. This research aims to describe the lexical and idiomatical meaning in Japanese idiom formed from the word insect and explains the metaphor contained in these idioms. The data in this research is taken from the Reikai Kanyouku Jiten idiom dictionary, 101 Japanese idioms, and website www.weblio.jp. The data is collected using the referring method with competent involvement and note-taking technique. Furthermore, the extralingual equivalent method is used to analyze the structure and type of metaphor. While the informal method is used to present the results of data analysis. Based on the data analysis, it was concluded that overall Japanese idioms that use the word insect have a negative meaning. In addition, most idioms show that insects are very influential animals in the lives of Japanese people.

Figurative language can appear in various types and the meaning may not be determined by its components. This study aims to identify and analyze the meaning of figurative language found in the song lyrics “Passenger's album all the little lights”. There are two theories used in this study. The first is the theory of figurative language proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger, and the second is the theory of meaning by Leech as the supporting theory. The data in this study were directly taken from Passenger’s fourth album. The album consists of twelve songs. They were collected by documentation method and note taking technique. The collected data were analyzed  using qualitative and descriptive method. This study applied informal method to present the analysis. The result of this study shows that there are nine types of figurative language found in song lyrics. They were allusion, simile, metaphor, irony, personification, hyperbole, dead metaphor, metonymy, and paradox. Most of the figurative expressions found in those songs were similes. Four out of seven types of meaning used in those lyrics in order to understand the figurative meaning in the song lyrics; they were connotative meaning, conceptual meaning, affective meaning, and collocative meaning. All the songs which are analyzed have the main theme about life and love.

An illocutionary act is a speech act that is usually identified by explicit performative sentences. The research on illocutionary acts in vlogs is an action that shows the meaning of speech during communication. This study aims to describe illocutionary acts on Fiersa Besari's vlog YouTube channel Jangan Lupa Senyum Part 1 along with its speech function. The method used in this research is the descriptive method. The form of research used here is qualitative research. The data source in this study is the vlog Jangan Lupa Senyum Part 1 on the Fiersa Besari YouTube channel. The data in this study are transcripts of conversations between characters in vlogs. Data collection techniques in research using the observation method and note-taking techniques. The findings in the research in this vlog were only 15 utterances of illocutionary speech acts. From the 15 utterances, 7 data on assertive illocutionary acts, 2 directive illocutionary acts, and 7 expressive illocutionary acts. From this research, it is expected that we can understand the function of illocutionary acts that are relevant to everyday life

Abstrak Penelitian ini meneliti satuan lingual sapaan istilah kekerabatan Bahasa Bali di kalangan kasta ksatria di Jero Tengah Kabupaten Tabanan. Penelitian ini khusus meneliti di satu keluarga besar Jero Tengah yang terletak di Banjar Tegal Baleran Kabupaten Tabanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui satuan lingual sapaan istilah kekerabatan Bahasa Bali kasta ksatria di Jero Tengah. Kasta Ksatria yang diteliti yaitu yang menggunakan nama Gusti. Metode pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dengan metode wawancara dengan narasumber dan dilanjutkan dengan teknik catat. Metode analisis data digunakan dengan metode agih, yaitu metode yang alat penentunya itu justru bagian dari Bahasa yang bersangkutan itu sendiri. Metode penyajian hasil analisis data menggunakan metode informal, yaitu hasil analisis disajikan dengan kata-kata dan kalimat. Satuan-satuan lingual sapaan istilah kekerabatan Bahasa Bali kasta ksatria di Jero Tengah yang ditemukan yaitu, kompyang ‘buyut’, ninik, mbah ‘nenek’, wayah ‘kakek’, ajik ‘ayah’, biang ‘ibu’, utik ‘ibu’, ‘ibu’, ji + urutan kelahiran ‘paman’, biang + urutan kelahiraan ‘bibi’, tik + urutan kelahiran ‘bibi’, bu + urutan kelahiran ‘bibi’, titu ‘bibi’, raka + urutan kelahiran ‘kakak laki-laki’, wi gus ‘kakak laki-laki’,  mbok gek ‘kakak perempuan’, gung + nama, gung + urutan kelahiran / nama saja ‘adik laki-laki/perempuan’. Satuan lingual dan sistem sapaan istilah kekerabatan Bahasa Bali yang ditemukan beragam sesuai dengan penggunaannya. This study specifically examined a large family of Jero Tengah located in Banjar Tegal Baleran, Tabanan Regency. This study aimed to determine the lingual units of greeting of Balinese kinship terms among ksatria caste in Jero Tengah. The Ksatria caste studied were those whose names were Gusti. The data collection method was carried out by interviewing the interviewees and continued with note taking. The data analysis method used was the distribution method that is the method in which the determinant is precisely the part of the language itself. The method of presenting the results of the data analysis was informal method, in which the results of the analysis were presented by using words and sentences. The lingual units of greeting of Balinese kinship terms among ksatria caste in Jero Tengah found were kompyang 'great-grandfather', ninik, mbah 'grandmother', wayah 'grandfather', ajik 'father', biang 'mother', utik 'mother', ji + birth order 'uncle', biang + birth order 'aunt', tik + birth order 'aunt', bu + birth order 'aunt', titu 'aunt', raka + birth order 'older brother ', wi gus 'older brother', mbok gek 'older sister', gung + name, gung + birth order / name only 'younger brother / sister'. This study aims at identifying the types of category shifts and explaining their occurrence in the translation of complex noun phrases from English into Indonesian in The Valley of Fear Novel. The data were collected using observation method which was supported by implementing note taking technique in order to find out, identify, and classify the data. The data were analyzed by applying the qualitative descriptive method. The theory applied in this study is the theory of translation proposed by Catford (1965) to identify the types of category shifts found and to explain their occurrence. The result shows that all types of category shifts proposed by Catford (1965) such as structure shift, class shift, intra-system shift, and unit shift are found in the translation. Structure shift occurs in the highest frequency of 339 cases or about 66,86% out of total 507 cases, class shift occurs 75 cases or 14,79 % out of total 507 cases, and intra-system shift occurs 48 cases or 9,46 % out of total 507 cases, and unit shift occurs 45 cases or 8,87 % out of total 507 cases. The occurrence of category shift is caused by the different characteristics of source language and target language.
