Pemanfaataan Tapak Liman (Elephantopus scaber) Sebagai Obat Tradisional dan Bioaktivitasnya

Background: Elephantopus scaber (ES) or tapak liman has been used by various ethnic groups in Indonesia and other countries as traditional medicine. Objectives: Comprehensive review of ES bioactivity is still limited, especially in the Indonesian language. Research Metodes: The writing of this article is based on a study of literature published on line and off line using several keywords Elephantopus scaber, bioactivities of Elephantopus scaber and uses of Elephantopus scaber. Results: In ethnobotany ES used wound medication, treatment of nephritis, edema, humidity, chest pain, fever, scabies, sores, coughs, tonics, fever, and bronchitis, and asthma. In China, ES leaves have been developed into "tea" to cure various diseases. The bioactivity of ES is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anticancer, hepatoprotective, stimulates hair growth, anti-diabetes mellitus, anti-wound, antioxidant, anti-neuroinflamation and overcoming kidney disorders. Conclusion: Deoxyelephantopin is one of the main sesquiterpenes lactones derived from ES has anti-cancer anti-cancer development. The development of ES tea as an anti-cancer needs to be further investigated because this plant is very easy to find in Indonesia.   Keywords: Elephantophus scaber, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, deoxyelephantopin

Comprehensive study of the bioactivity of E. scaber is still limited, therefore this paper aims to explain the relationship between the use and its bioactivity. The writing of this article is based on a study of literature published online and offline used keywords E. scaber, bioactivities of E. scaber and uses of E. scaber. Ethnobotanically, E. scaber used to tread wound, nephritis, edema, chest pain, fever, scabies, sores, coughs, tonics, fever, and bronchitis, and asthma. The local communities in China, E. scaber leaves have been developed into "tea" to cure various diseases. The bioactivity of E. scaber is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anticancer, hepatoprotective, stimulates hair growth, anti-diabetes mellitus, anti-wound, antioxidant, and overcoming kidney disorders. Deoxyelephantopin is one of the main sesquiterpenes lactones derived from E. scaber has anti-cancer anticancer development. Backgoun: Syzygium cumini is a species in the Myrtaceae, which is used as traditional medicine. In Indonesia S. cumini found in the yard and home garden, which use as producer of fruit and shading. The using of natural product as traditional medicine is better than sintetic, but improper has a negative impact. This article aims to explain the uses of S. cumini as traditional medicine and its bioactivity. Method: This article is based on the study of literature obtained on line and off line such as used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals, then synthesized according to the research objectives so that comprehensive information. Result: The traditional medicine of S. cumini have been used to cure diabetes mellitus, anti-inflammation, anti-ulcers, vaginal discharge, stomach disorders, fever, stomach aches, wounds, digestive disorders, and skin infection. The bioassay of S. cumini has activities as anti-diabetes mellitus, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-allergy, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-cancer, gastroprotective, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-pyretic. Conclusion. Our study of S. cumini is very potential to be developed as an anti-diabetes mellitus drug because it is considered safer therefore it is necessary to do further research.

Tabat barito atau Ficus deltoidea (FD) merupakan tanaman obat yang telah lama digunakan masyarakat lokal Indonesia terutama di pulau Sumatera dan Kalimantan, namun belum sepopuler di Malaysia. Beberapa kendala dalam pengembangan tumbuhan sebagai obat tradisional adalah ketebatasn informasinya. Penulisan artikel ini didasarkan pada kajian literature yang terbit secara on line maupun ofline tentang manfaat dan bioaktivitas FD. Data yang diperoleh disintesakan sehingga diperoleh informasi yang konfrehensif. Secara etnobotani FD digunakan untuk mengatasi luka, diare, diabetes mellitus, tonik pasca melahirkan, penambah stamina dan obat kanker. Ficus deltoidea memiliki bioaktivitas sebagai anti diabetes mellitus, anti kanker, anti mikroba, aprosidiak, anti inflamasi, antioksidan dan anti obesitas. Aktivitas FD berhubungan dengan kandungan metabolit sekundernya terutama asam ursolik, fenolat, flavonoid, isoviteksin, moretenol, betulin, lupenone, dan lupeol. Isoviteksin memiliki aktivitas sebagai antiangiogenik dan anti kanker. Bioaktivitas FD sebagai anti kanker dan obesitas perlu dilanjutkan sehingga dapat dikembangkan sebagai obat alternatif.

C-N bond formation is a particularly important step in the generation of many biologically relevant heterocyclic molecules. Several methods have been reported for this purpose over the past few decades. Well-known named reactions like Ullmann-Goldberg coupling, Buchwald-Hartwig coupling and Chan-Lam coupling are associated with the C-N bond formation reactions. Several reviews covering this topic have already been published. However, no comprehensive review covering the synthesis of drugs/ lead compounds using the C-N bond formation reactions was reported. In this review, we cover many modern methods of the C-N bond formation reactions, with special emphasis on metal-free and green chemistry methods. We also report specific strategies adopted for the synthesis of drugs, which involve the C-N bond formation reactions. Examples include anti-cancer, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherosclerotic, anti-histaminic, antibiotics, antibacterial, anti-rheumatic, antiepileptic and anti-diabetic agents. Many recently developed lead compounds generated using the C-N bond formation reactions are also covered in this review. Examples include MAP kinase inhibitors, TRKs inhibitors, Polo-like Kinase inhibitors and MPS1 inhibitors.

Background: Genus Berberis (family Berberidaceae), which contains about 650 species and 17 genera worldwide, has been used in folklore and various traditional medicine systems. Berberis Linn. is the most established group among genera with around 450-500 species across the world. This comprehensive review will not only help researchers for further evaluation but also provide substantial information for future exploitation of species to develop novel herbal formulations. Objective: The present review is focussed to summarize and collect the updated review of information of Genus Berberis species reported to date regarding their ethnomedicinal information, chemical constituents, traditional/folklore use, and reported pharmacological activities on more than 40 species of Berberis. Conclusion: A comprehensive survey of the literature reveals that various species of the genus possess various phytoconstituents mainly alkaloids, flavonoid based compounds isolated from different parts of a plant with a wide range of pharmacological activities. So far, many pharmacological activities like anti-cancer, anti-hyperlipidemic, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory both in vitro & in vivo and clinical study of different extracts/isolated compounds of different species of Berberis have been reported, proving their importance as a medicinal plant and claiming their traditional use.

Ferula hermonis Boiss, is an endemic plant of Lebanon, locally known as “shilsh Elzallouh”. It has been extensively used in the traditional medicine as an aphrodisiac and for the treatment of sexual impotence. Crude extracts and isolated compounds of ferula hermonis contain phytoestrogenic substances having a wide spectrum of in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties including anti-osteoporosis, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-fungal, anti-cancer and as sexual activity enhancer. The aim of this mini-review is to highlight the traditional and novel applications of this plant’s extracts and its major sesquiterpene ester, ferutinin. The phytochemical constituents and the pharmacological uses of ferula hermonis crude extract and ferutinin specifically will be discussed.

There is mounting evidence that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is related with increased risk for the development of cancer. Apart from shared common risk factors typical for both diseases, diabetes driven factors including hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, hyperglycemia and low grade chronic inflammation are of great importance. Recently, vitamin D deficiency was reported to be associated with the pathogenesis of numerous diseases, including T2DM and cancer. However, little is known whether vitamin D deficiency may be responsible for elevated cancer risk development in T2DM patients. Therefore, the aim of the current review is to identify the molecular mechanisms by which vitamin D deficiency may contribute to cancer development in T2DM patients. Vitamin D via alleviation of insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, oxidative stress and inflammation reduces diabetes driven cancer risk factors. Moreover, vitamin D strengthens the DNA repair process, and regulates apoptosis and autophagy of cancer cells as well as signaling pathways involved in tumorigenesis i.e., tumor growth factor β (TGFβ), insulin-like growth factor (IGF) and Wnt-β-Cathenin. It should also be underlined that many types of cancer cells present alterations in vitamin D metabolism and action as a result of Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) and CYP27B1 expression dysregulation. Although, numerous studies revealed that adequate vitamin D concentration prevents or delays T2DM and cancer development, little is known how the vitamin affects cancer risk among T2DM patients. There is a pressing need for randomized clinical trials to clarify whether vitamin D deficiency may be a factor responsible for increased risk of cancer in T2DM patients, and whether the use of the vitamin by patients with diabetes and cancer may improve cancer prognosis and metabolic control of diabetes.

Abstract Background In modern therapeutics, various human pathological disturbances were treated with the plant-based products. Waltheria indica Linn, a perennial herb, was commonly used in traditional medicine worldwide against various ailments such as cough, dysentery, diarrhea, bladder disorder, hemoptysis, inflammations, neuralgia, wounds, and ulcers. Main body The shrub was majorly distributed in tropical, subtropical regions and exists in many distinct local forms. Both the crude extracts and purified compounds from the whole plant and its parts showed wide pharmacological properties like antioxidant, analgesic, sedative, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitic. The phytochemical profile and traditional usage highlight the potency of the plant in the treatment of microbial infections and inflammatory diseases. Yet, additional studies are required for the confirmations of its traditional uses against other diseases. More detailed understanding of anti-cataract, anti-diabetics, asthma, anemia, and anti-cancer mechanism has to be explored. Though many research articles on the proposed plant are available, there has been a rising concern in the therapeutic property, especially on the alkaloids and flavonoids from this plant for drug design. Conclusion This article aims in a systematic and updated review on distribution, botany, traditional uses, phytocompounds, and relevant biological activities from each part of the plant. The information was collected from databases like PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Google Scholar, books, dissertation, and reports via academic libraries that included more than 100 articles published since 1937. This ethnopharmacological study of the plant may create new insight into drug discovery to develop important novel leads against various biological targets.

: Spreading rapidly in recent years, cancer has become the cause of one of the highest mortality rates after cardiovascular diseases. The reason for cancer development is still not clearly understood despite enormous research activities in this area. Scientists are now working on the biology of cancer, especially on the root cause of cancer development. The aim is to treat the cancer disease, and thus cure the patients. The continuing efforts on the development of novel molecules as potential anti-cancer agents are essential for this purpose. The main aim of this review was to present a survey on the medicinal chemistry of thioethers and to provide practical data on their cytotoxicities against various cancer cell lines. The research articles published between 2001-2020 were consulted in the preparation of this review article, though patent literature was not included here. The thioether-containing heterocyclic compounds may emerge as a new class of potent and effective anti-cancer agents soon.
