Thalassaemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. The symptoms of thalassemia appear in the first two years of life and include paleness of the skin, anemia, bone abnormalities, weakness and growth retardations. (70) male thalassaemic patients are diagnosed in thalassaemia center at Azadi Teaching Hospital in Kirkuk city  and( 30) normal male healthy Controls were included in this study Anthropometric measures include, Age, BMI, were done for all participants. there is significant elevation, (P> 0.01) in PTH in P2 age group (9-13) years as compare with control healthy subjectsand as compare with P1(4-8) and P3(14-18) age group. http://dx.doi.org/10.25130/tjps.24.2019.023

Background: β-thalassemia is a blood disorder in which the body does not make hemoglobin normally. Aim: To assess serum sclerostin in female patients with beta-thalassemia and compare with the healthy controls and to predict its complication associated with the bone pathophysiology, for designed improvement the lifestyle goodliness for these patients. Material and methods: Sixty-nine female beta-thalassemia (βT) patients (54 βT major and 15 βT Intermedia), aged 8-40 years who dependent on transfused blood, and 20 healthy controls were evaluated serum sclerostin, and was examined the relationship with hematological parameters RBC, Hb, PCV, WBC, PLT, BMI, splenic status, iron, and ferritin levels. The information of beta-thalassemia patients was collected and records by the questioner. Results: A significantly increased serum sclerostin level (mean 26.80±0.91) pg/ml was showed in βT patients compared with the healthy controls (10.03±0.68, p  smaller than  0.001) pg/ml. Furthermore, a significant decrease (p smaller than 0.05) of the sclerostin level was observed in β-thalassemia major compared to intermedia β-thalassemia patients. Serum sclerostin level revealed a significant increase in progress age; it is highest in the age group (30-40) year as compared with age group (8-18) and (19-29) year respectively. Sclerostin showed no associations with the RBC, Hb, PCV, and significantly positively correlated (p smaller than 0.05) with serum iron, ferritin levels, WBC, and PLT count. Significantly higher sclerostin levels in splenectomized and underweight groups were observed compared to unsplenectomized and normal-weight groups (p smaller than 0.05) of βT patients. Conclusions: Sclerostin plays an important role in beta-thalassemia patients and can serve as a biomarker associated with the bone pathophysiology and indicator to prevent the continuation of such serious diseases caused by iron overload in these patients.

Thalassemia is a congenital blood disorder characterized by reduced production of one or more globin chains. Thalassemia patients lack healthy hemoglobin which the body needs to be properly oxygenated. Blood transfusion is the main treatment for thalassemia patients. Checking hemoglobin levels after transfusion is a common test, but until now there is no definite uniformity of time to carry out these tests, so it will be detrimental to the patient and increase the length of the patient in the hospital. Assessing the difference in time to increase in hemoglobin levels at 1 hour, 6 hours, and 12 hours after blood transfusion in thalassemia patients. This research is an observational analytic study with cross sectional design. This study was conducted by examining the hemoglobin levels of thalassemia patients after 1 hour, 6 hours, and 12 hours after transfusion in thalassemia patients aged 1-18 years with a total sample of 40 people. The statistical analysis used was paired t test. The results showed that 20 men and 20 women and Most were in the age group 10-13 (35%), with an average Hb level at admission of 7.38 g / dL (95% CI). At 1 hour post-transfusion, the patient's mean Hb level increased by 8.97 g / dL (8,59-9,35 g / dL), at 6 hours post transfusion, 8.95 g / dL (8,57-9,32 g / dL), at 12 hours post transfusion increased by 9.60 g / dL (9,17-10,03 g / dL). Significant increase in Hb levels occurred at 1 hour and 12 hours after blood transfusion.

Cisplatin (CDDP) a potent antitumor agent suffers from severe toxic side effects with nephrotoxicity being the major dose-limiting factor, The primary mechanism of its action has been proposed to be through its cross-linking DNA strands. It has also been shown to inactivate various transport enzymes and induce hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia that may be the underlying cause for some of its toxicities. The present is an effort to study its influence on the parathyroid gland for any hormonal changes that control calcium levels in the body.Male Swiss Wistar rats (Crl: (WI) BR) weighing 200-300 g and of 60 days in age were injected (ip) with cisplatin (7mg/kg in normal saline). The controls received saline injections only. The animals were injected (iv) with calcium (0.5 ml of 10% calcium gluconate/day) and were killed by decapitation on day 1 through 5. Trunk blood was collected in heparinized tubes.

Background- Electric burns and injuries are the result of electric current passing through the body. Temporary or permanent damage can occur to the skin, tissues, and major organs. Methods- This prospective study was carried out on patients admitted in burn unit of department of surgery M.G. Hospital associated with Dr. S.N. Medical College Jodhpur. Records of the patients admitted from January 2018 to December 2018 were studied. Bed head tickets of the patients evaluated in detail. Results- In our study out of 113 patients maximum no. of patients were in age group of 21-30 years 44 (38.94%) followed by age group <11 years in 21 (18.58%) patients and age group of > 60 years in only 3 (2.65%).39 (34.51%) patients were farmer and 15 (13.27%) were electrician in out of 113 total patients, while 37 (32.74%) were without any occupation. 65 (57.52%) cases of high voltage (HV) electrical injury and 48 (42.48%) cases were of low voltage (LV) electrical injury. Conclusion- Morbidity leading to permanent disabilities make the person physically dependent on others. It can be prevented by educating the people about the proper handling to electric circuits & devices. Proper communication among the electricians may help in lowering such accidents. Proper rehabilitation of the handicapped person & employment to the member of the affected family may reduce the social burden caused by such electricity concerned accidents.

Congenital lumbar hernias are uncommonly seen in the pediatric age group, with only about 60 cases reported in the literature. It is usually accompanied by a multitude of congenital anomalies involving different organ systems of the body. For instance, it may involve the ribs, spine, muscles, and the kidneys. Herein, we report a case of congenital lumbar hernia in an 8-month-old boy who underwent an operative repair using a mesh with an uneventful outcome.

Generally, there is a significant relationship between some acoustic measures (F0 and formant parameters) and the body size of speakers; however, data become less clear when age and sex variables are controlled. To date, no other vocal parameter apart from F0 has been studied in relation to body size. In the present study, correlations between a set of 27 parameters of the Multi-dimensional Voice Program (Kay Elemetrics Corp.) and 4 body measures were obtained from 134 speakers of both sexes belonging to one age group (20–29 years). Correlations within sex groups were null or very weak, and all significant coefficients were below .35.

BackgroundThe rubber hand illusion (RHI) has been widely used to investigate the bodily self in healthy individuals. The aim of the present study was to extend the use of the RHI to examine the bodily self in eating disorders (EDs).MethodThe RHI and self-report measures of ED psychopathology [the Eating Disorder Inventory – 3 (EDI-3) subscales of Drive for Thinness, Bulimia, Body Dissatisfaction, Interoceptive Deficits, and Emotional Dysregulation; the 21-item Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21); and the Self-Objectification Questionnaire (SOQ)] were administered to 78 individuals with an ED and 61 healthy controls.ResultsIndividuals with an ED experienced the RHI significantly more strongly than healthy controls on both perceptual (i.e. proprioceptive drift) and subjective (i.e. self-report questionnaire) measures. Furthermore, both the subjective experience of the RHI and associated proprioceptive biases were correlated with ED psychopathology. Approximately 23% of the variance for embodiment of the fake hand was accounted for by ED psychopathology, with interoceptive deficits and self-objectification significant predictors of embodiment.ConclusionsThese results indicate that the bodily self is more plastic in people with an ED. These findings may shed light on both aetiological and maintenance factors involved in EDs, particularly visual processing of the body, interoceptive deficits, and self-objectification.

Mutant Gy male mice, which have previously been described as having disruption of the phosphate-regulating Phex gene and a spermine synthase gene [Meyer, Henley, Meyer, Morgan, McDonald, Mills and Price (1998) Genomics, 48, 289–295; Lorenz, Francis, Gempel, Böddrich, Josten, Schmahl and Schmidt (1998) Hum. Mol. Genet. 7, 541–547], as well as mutant Hyp male mice, which have disruption of the Phex gene only, were examined along with their respective normal male littermates. Biochemical analyses of extracts of brains, hearts and livers of 5-week-old mice showed that Gy males lacked any significant spermine synthase activity as well as spermine content. Organs of Gy males had a higher spermidine content. This was caused not only by the lack of conversion of spermidine into spermine, but also because of compensatory increases in the activities of other polyamine biosynthetic enzymes. Gy males were half the body weight of their normal male littermates at weaning age. Hyp males, however, were no different in size when compared with their controls. High mortality of Gy males occurs by weaning age and this mortality was shown to be largely post-natal. Embryonic fibroblasts were isolated from Gy males and their normal male littermates and were similarly shown to lack any significant spermine synthase activity as well as spermine content. The lack of spermine, however, had no significant effect on the growth of immortalized fibroblasts or of primary fibroblast cultures. Similarly, there was no difference in the time of senescence of primary fibroblast cultures from Gy males compared with cultures derived from normal male littermates. However, the lack of spermine did increase the sensitivity of immortalized fibroblasts to killing by the chloroethylating agent 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-N-nitrosourea. Therefore both the Gy male mice and derived embryonic fibroblasts provide valuable models to study the importance of spermine and spermine synthase, without the use of inhibitors which may have additional side effects.

Paederus dermatitis is a form of irritant contact dermatitis due to contact with certain insects of the genus Paederus presenting with mostly erythematous linear lesions of sudden onset on exposed parts of the body. To study the clinico epi Aim: demiological features in patients with Paederus dermatitis. A retrospective analysis of clinicoepidemiological Materials & Methods: features of patients affected with Paederus dermatitis who had attended the Dermatology OPD, in a tertiary care hospital between January 2018 to December 2019 was done. All the required data had been collected from the OPD records and details were tabulated and analysed. A total of 56 patients had been affected with Result: Paederus dermatitis during the study period, of which 32 were males and 24 were females. 41out of 56 (73.21%) of patients presented between the months of August and December. Most common age group affected were between 11 to 30 yrs, with front and back of neck being the most common affected sites. In 42 out of the 56 patients the lesions resolved with post inammatory hyperpigmentation. Conclusion: Paederus dermatitis is a common condition that is often misdiagnosed and hence awareness is required for the clinicians and the general public to prevent it.

We analyzed 105 profile teleroentgenograms of the head of patients at the age of milk, replaceable and permanent bite with progenic closure of the dentition. On the basis of cranio-, gnato, and profilometric studies, the average angular and linear measurements of teleroentgenograms were calculated for each age group of patients, with which the average data of the age norm were compared. It was found that in the period of milk bite, dentoalveolar forms of progeny prevail. In a removable and especially permanent bite, there is a violation of the proportionality of the ratio of the upper and lower jaws and a sharp discrepancy between the length of the body and the height of the branches of the lower jaw, that is, the signs of progeny increase.
