The mechanism under study should be aimed at introducing innovative approaches to the modernization of technical l and technological cycles of production and economic processes, strengthening the competitive position of enterprises in the agrarian market and overcoming internal and external institutional barriers to enterprise development by suppressing irrational institutional influences on the functioning. The purpose of this study is to substantiate theoretical and methodological foundations and to develop applied approaches for implementing the mechanism of transformation of agricultural enterprises in a competitive environment. The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the substantiation of the mechanism of transformation of agricultural enterprises, which includes such components as: information and analytical tools (monitoring of the economic environment, verification and systematization of information data, establishment of essential laws and relationships, the formation of information bases of decision  making, management, design-testing apparatus (designing a perspective plan for the transformation of agricultural enterprises, pilot testing of the target project of the proposed changes in the organizational and legal form of management, adjustment of the project of transformation of enterprises) and implementation-block (formation of innovative structures of agricultural enterprises, ensuring the sequence and consistency of implementation of target changes, minimization of conflict environment in the process of transformation in balancing the duties, process responsibilities and responsibilities in terms of the structural components of the new organizational and legal system). The social and economic effect of this mechanism is achieved through a synergistic effect obtained through the functional interaction of enterprises that are able, however, to work autonomously. The practical significance of the mechanism is manifested in the ability to generate comprehensive management support in the process of transformation of agricultural enterprises, taking into account the specifics of a particular organizational and legal form of management in a competitive environment of their operation.

Purpose Successful innovation requires a significant financial commitment. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the relation between internal and external financing and the degree of innovation in European firms. Design/methodology/approach An empirical investigation is carried out using a longitudinal data set including 146 large, quoted, European firms over ten years, resulting in 1,460 firm years. Findings The authors find that only firms in the energy sector will be more innovative when they are profitable. For the sectors of basic materials, manufacture and construction, services, financial and property services, and technology and telecommunications, profitability is negatively related to innovation. External financing in the form of debt reduces the focus on innovation in profitable firms. Research limitations/implications The authors analyze the findings through the lens of evolutionary economics. The model is not valid for firms in the consumer-goods sector, which indicates a need for adapting the model to each sector. We conclude that the impact of profitability on innovation varies across sectors, with debt financing as a moderating factor. Originality/value To the best of authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that analyzes the internal and external financing and the degree of innovation in European firms on a longitudinal basis.

Purpose. Under the conditions of strengthening of the destructive effects of the global economic crisis and the growing number of risks of agribusiness, there is a problem in finding the ways to improve accounting and analytical support as the only reliable source of the relevant and accurate information needed for economic security management. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the directions to improve the analytical basis as a component of accounting and analytical support of economic security management of the agricultural enterprises. Methodology / approach. The methodological basis of the research is a dialectical method of cognition of the complex economic phenomena. Consideration of the analytical support of complex management processes took place using a systematic approach, analysis and synthesis. Using an integral approach, a methodology for assessing and analyzing economic security of the agricultural enterprises is developed. This methodology approach includes the parameters of financial, social, resource and environmental security. Results. The analysis of the theoretical and methodological foundations of accounting and analytical support of economic security management showed a variety of the approaches to the choice of the indicators that describe the level of economic security. The situation is complicated by the need to analyze the information that may be relevant for management decisions in conditions of uncertainty. Under these conditions, it is proposed to implement a model of analytical support for economic security management under conditions of uncertainty and growing risks and threats to the business environment of the agricultural enterprises, which should be based on the use of general economic, statistical, integral and econometric approaches. It is determined that in the process of counteracting the risks and threats of the external and internal environment of the agrarian business the use of the integral methods of assessing economic security of the agricultural enterprises becomes crucial. It is substantiated that the most expedient in terms of achieving strategic goals of the enterprise, maintaining its competitive advantages and ensuring sustainable development is the use of integral assessment of economic security, which should be based on a synergistic approach to analysis of 25 indicators of financial, social, resource and environmental components. The approach was tested on the example of 24 agricultural enterprises of Kharkiv region (Ukraine) of crop specialization (2019). The model is also used to analyze the dynamics of the level of economic security under conditions of individual agricultural enterprises of different organizational and legal forms of management (2014–2019).  Originality / scientific novelty. According to the results of the research, a methodological approach to determination of the integral level of economic security of the agricultural enterprises has been improved, based on the impact of the indicators of its individual components, which, at the same time, improves the analytical support of economic security management and strengthens verification, forecasting, preventive, planning and control functions of accounting and analytical support of management mechanisms. Practical value / implications. The practical significance of the proposed approaches consists of the possibility of positioning the enterprises in terms of optimal, satisfactory, shaky and crisis economic security zones, as well as analyzing the dynamics of the integral level of economic security, which takes into consideration the causal relations of the key areas of the agrarian business under conditions of uncertainty.

This paper examines the impact of retirement on people’s subjective quality of life, as expressed by their levels of happiness and loneliness, in Poland. We analysed five waves of the Social Diagnosis panel survey conducted between 2007 and 2015. To account for unobserved individual heterogeneity, we employed fixed effects ordered logit models and fixed effect logistic models for the panel data. We found that the respondents’ happiness levels did not change after they retired, and that the introduction of interactions between retirement and employment did not alter these findings. However, the results of the loneliness model showed that the probability of being lonely increased among males after retirement. Second, the outcomes of interactions between retirement and employment suggested that not working after retirement increased the likelihood of being lonely among men, whereas engaging in bridge employment decreased the chances of being lonely among men. These findings may indicate that combining retirement with employment may be a source of social interaction, which can provide protection against loneliness, and which may, in turn, be positively related to other factors (i.e., subjective quality of life, health status, and mortality).

Technical progress and modernization of agricultural production lead to fluctuations in the level of demand and supply in the labor market and provoke a number of social and economic problems: rising unemployment, underemployment, chronic shortages or redundancy of certain professions, aging of staff, low wages, leading to high the turnover of personnel in agriculture, the reduction of labor competitiveness and the growth of social tension in society. In the conditions of increasing use of innovative technologies in agricultural production, qualified personnel become more and more popular every year, as well as receiving permanent additional education. However, the ongoing positive changes in mechanization and automation of production do not significantly affect the social and economic development of the rural population, which leads to staff turnover and aging of the workforce. In this regard, the purpose of the publication is to study the changes in the gender and quantity composition of workers in agricultural enterprises, assess the socio-economic conditions of rural development. The analysis of the state and trends of the personnel potential, the impact of the changes in technical and technological support on the deepening of its professional and qualification of the division of labor, which should ultimately be taken into account in the development of conceptual provisions for the forecasting of labor resources. Based on the results of the analysis, the causes of the identified problems were identified and measures for their solution were proposed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the world for a year, where a study in China showed that the disease increased psychological distress among adolescents and college students, such as anxiety about the academic setback, economic effects, and impact on their daily life. However, a further study examining the impact of the disease on the mental health of students is required. Social support is the most vital psychosocial protective resource, where effective coping can reduce stress levels and prevent individuals from experiencing more severe psychological distress. Therefore, this study investigated the coping strategy, social support, and psychological distress among university students in Jakarta who are also the epicenter of COVID-19 in Indonesia. The psychological distress and coping strategy variable were measured through the Hopkins Symptoms Checklist-25 (HSCL-25) and the COPE Brief instrument, respectively. Meanwhile, the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support-12 instrument was used to measure the social support variable. The study was disseminated via an online form and the number of research subjects included 250 students who matched the research criteria, including DKI Jakarta domicile and active students registered in the area that were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive. According to the results, coping strategies and increased social support were significantly correlated with decreased psychological distress and may serve as the basis for interventions.
