The quality of inclusive and accountable institutions in a donor-recipient country determines the effectiveness of foreign aid. This study examined whether the role of donor agency or the implementing agency was more helpful in the successes of two foreign-funded educational interventions in Northern Pakistan. The two interventions, each focusing on teachers’ development program and the capacity development of principals, were funded by two different international donors. The study also provided a comparison of the two international donors working styles and their strategies applied for the execution of their respective projects. The findings of the study, which were generated through qualitative methods, noted wide variations not only in the working strategies of the two donors, but also the role of the executing agency. It was noted that multiple factors determined the productivity of the two projects; one of the elements that contributed the success or failure of the two project was their design or road map. Based on the findings of this study, it was maintained that a proactive role of both the entities is crucial for the success of such interventions.

Positive contributions and trends in the tourism sector on Bangka Island, especially in the Matras Tourism Village, need to receive appreciation and support from all stakeholders through the management of environmentally friendly and sustainable tourist objects / attractions. To realize this mission, it is necessary to do ecological propaganda (religious values originating from the Qur'an and Hadith) that are in accordance with the sociocultural characteristics of society. This issue is the subject of discussion in this study, especially regarding the values of ecological preaching implemented in the development program of the Mattress Tourism Village. For this reason, a descriptive-qualitative study was conducted by collecting purposive-snowball data from the sample. Furthermore, the collected data was analyzed descriptively-qualitatively so that the values of ecological preaching that had been implemented were identified and the form and process of implementation by the Matras Tourism Village community. The findings show that there are five types of ecological preaching values that have been implemented, namely al-Is (justice), al-Tawazun (balance), al-Intifa 'wa laa al-Fasad (taking benefits without damage), ar-Riayah wa laa al -Israf (nurturing without exaggeration), and al-Tahdits wa al-Istikhlaf (renewal). Unfortunately, the value of al-Tahdits wa al-Istikhlaf is still not optimal due to the quality of science and technology. However, the local community has become more aware and intelligent about the importance of ecological preaching values in the development of Mattress Tourism Village. In the future, besides needing to intensify and harmonize the role of ulama and Umara, it must also be carried out to increase the capacity of religious institutions, knowledge and appropriate technology for program implementers, and to involve community participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the Matras Tourism Village development program.

This study examines the impact of foreign aid on the institutional quality (IQ) of the OIC countries. Using the data of OIC countries for the three-year average period from 1991 to 2016, the system GMM finds that aid in general deteriorates the IQ for the aid recipient countries. However, quantile regression suggests that the negative impact of foreign aid on institutional quality (IQ) is relatively greater in the countries where the existing quality of institution is poor. The findings of the study suggest that improving the existing capacity is essential for reaping the optimum benefit of foreign aid on institutional development.

Recent debates have focused on the negative role of the proliferation of foreign aid facilities and donor fragmentation for development outcomes and recipient country institutions. This article investigates an overlooked positive side effect of donor proliferation. With an increasing number of donors, exposure to negative aid shocks decreases, as well as the impact of such shocks on violent political conflict. Using data on 106 recipient countries for the years 1970 to 2008 and employing event history and mediation analysis, we find strong evidence that fragmentation significantly reduces the risk for political destabilization associated with aid shocks.

Since 2003, the economic situation, life expectancy, and per capita income of Afghanistan were increasing. This was mainly due to foreign aid reported $83 billion from 2003 to 2016. 90% of Afghanistan's military budget was also coming from international donors. The role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces was strengthening the Afghan government. However, recently the USA has decided to withdraw its troops. It is expected that the rest of NATO forces will also evacuate Afghanistan. The whole process of withdraw of USA of Afghanistan is mainly discussed in the military perspective in literature. There are fewer articles on the expected economic impact of USA withdrawal. Therefore, this research paper has provided an overview of the existing situation of the Afghan economy, in parallel with war impacts and consequences of US withdrawal. The paper concludes that in one USA evacuation will result in the diminishing of foreign aid and reduction in the legitimacy of government, yet it will create opportunities for Afghanistan to strengthen its relationship with neighbors and strengthen its foundation.

Peatlands, with their important role, are in need of great attention, both from the government and also environmentalists. The role of corporations is really needed and is expected to be able to accelerate the improvement of the quality of peatlands, so that the benefits are maintained. Issuance of Green Bond is expected to be able to encourage the achievement of this goal. It is hoped that companies operating in and around the Peatland area will be able to create sustainable Peatland development efforts. The synergy between companies and green investors is expected to be an aspect of improving the economy, both for companies, investors and the public. Companies as publishers have an increasingly large role in maintaining the balance of peatlands. Benefits in the form of incentives from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) will also be obtained by companies that issue green bonds. Investors, especially green investors who are interested in environmental issues will have new investment alternatives. The emergence of a development program initiated by the company, of course, will also have an impact on society, in the form of the withdrawal of a number of workers, as well as the increase in other economic activities as a result of the increase in the standard of living of the community. Keywords: Green Bond, Peatland

AbstractWorld Bank evaluations show that recipient performance varies substantially between different projects. Extant research has focused on country-level variables when explaining these variations. This article goes beyond country-level explanations and highlights the role of World Bank staff. We extend established arguments in the literature on compliance with the demands of International Organizations (IOs) and hypothesize that IO staff can shape recipient performance in three ways. First, recipient performance may be influenced by the quality of IO staff monitoring and supervision. Second, the leniency and stringency with which IO staff apply the aid agreement could improve recipient performance. Third, recipient performance may depend on whether IO staff can identify and mobilize supportive interlocutors through their networks in the recipient country. We test these arguments by linking a novel database on the tenure of World Bank task team leaders to projects evaluated between 1986 and 2020. The findings are consistent with the expectation that World Bank staff play an important role, but only in investment projects. There is substantial evidence that World Bank staff supervisory ability and country experience are linked to recipient performance in those projects. Less consistent evidence indicates that leniency could matter. These findings imply that World Bank staff play an important role in facilitating implementation of investment projects.

This study examined the moderating effect of institutional quality on the foreign aid-economic growth nexus in Nigeria from 1984 to 2018 through the use of Johansen and canonical cointegration regression. Findings from the study indicate that while foreign aid has a separate positive effect on economic growth, the quality of institutions in the country diminishes and leaks out this positive effect. To this end, fiscal authorities in Nigeria need to review the existing institutional framework guiding the sourcing, disbursement and utilization of foreign aid with a view to detecting any loopholes and lapses that encourage diversion of fund and institutionalized corruption which prevent it from promoting growth.

In this paper, a case study is presented based on one school, conducted to examine the factors that influenced the process and quality of implementation of the Tier 1 Program of the Project P.A.T.H.S. Through interviews with the school contact person and focus group interviews with the instructors, an integration of the findings showed that several factors related to the program, people, process, policy, and place (5 “P”s) facilitated the implementation process of the Tier 1 Program in the school. Obstacles and difficulties with reference to the 5 “P”s that affected the quality of implementation were also identified. Overall, the quality of program implementation in the school was good, and the program was well received by the program implementers. Implications of the present findings for future program implementation with reference to school administrative arrangements and implementation issues are discussed.
