ABSTRACT. This study aims: to provide an overview of the development of seaweed cultivation in improving the economy of coastal communities. Based on the results of a theoretical study of various results of research on seaweed cultivation in Indonesia. Some of the things that make seaweed farming activities are in great demand by coastal communities, namely the technical aspects of seaweed farming are relatively easy with a short maintenance time, while from the economic aspect this business is very profitable because of the relatively cheap investment and production costs. The type of seaweed has economic value, namely; Gracilaria sp. Gelidium sp. This can be seen from the behavior of the people in seaweed management which still overrides the surrounding environmental factors. This certainly contradicts the concept of integrated coastal areas.ABSTRAK.

Seaweed is one of the important commodities of fishery products that have economic value. Farmers often use repetitive seeds from the same broodstock so that they have the potential to experience a decline in quality. So it is necessary to do a study of seaweed cultivation using tissue culture seedling with the long line method as an effort to develop seaweed farming. Seaweed (Kappaphycuz alvarezii) has an absolute growth of 138.61 grams, with a growth rate of 4.85%. The growth of seaweed from tissue culture seedlings is better than the growth of conventional seedlings.

Based on the concept of a livable and global age-friendly city, pavements are a public facility that the city should provide to the people. Appropriate pavements will be beneficial for the people, particularly for good quality of life for the elderly to move around in the city. This study explored the behaviour of the elderly in the use of pavements and the problems confronted. The study also evaluated the value of the pavement walking area as it reflected the benefits of pavements to the elderly by applying the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). During March-May 2017, data were collected using interviews with 601 elderly living in Bangkok. The study indicated that the main problem for senior citizens regarding their use of pavements was from being disturbed by motorbikes riding on the pavements. The average value of pavement for the elderly was about THB 160 (USD 5.30) per person per year. Thus, the benefits of pavements to the elderly in Bangkok was approximately THB 158 million (USD 5.2 million) per year. Thus, policy makers should make proper budget allocations for elderly-friendly pavement management and seriously address the problems confronting the elderly in using pavements, to maximize the usefulness of pavements not only for the elderly but also for the public and to support a sustainable urban development.

The abundant energy available in nature can be harnessed and converted to electricity in a sustainable way to supply the necessary power to elevate the living standards of the people without access to the electricity grid. Wind power is one of the cleanest and safest of all the renewable commercial methods of generating electricity. However, wind energy is difficult to use due to its stochastic variability. Energy storage can overcome the main drawback. This article consists of studying a wind starting system based on DFIG and operating in isolated mode. This system is formed by a bank of batteries and a bidirectional DC/DC converter charging a DC bus voltage as well as these batteries. The control of this system required a cascade control. Such control needs two loops: the inside loop to control the inductive current and the outside one for continuous voltage bus. The theoretical study of this command has been validated using PSIM software.
