Abstract Klebsiella subspecies infection is widely misdiagnosed and underestimated in clinic. We report a patient who was admitted to hospital due to unknown high fever. Bacterial culture only revealed the klebsiella pneumonia. Broad-spectrum antibiotics failed to improve patient's symptoms, although these antibiotics are sensitive to klebsiella pneumonia according to the drug susceptibility results. Patient rapidly entered sepsis and subsequent sepsis shock, and died within 72 hours. The delayed PMseq-DNA Pro high throughput gene detection revealed the mixed infection of klebsiella pneumoniae and klebsiella variicola. This is a very rare case that patient suffered so rapid deterioration and died from bacterial infection within short period of time. Klebsiella variicola could contribute to rapid illness progression, while it was revealed by gene detection rather than classic laboratory methods. Which suggests that early genetic detection should be recommended in cases of complex infection.

Abstract Background Klebsiella pneumoniae infection leads to significant concerns because of its varied manifestation and resultant mortality. While recent genetic structure analysis reveals that the higher virulence and mortality could be from its subspecies rather than Klebsiella pneumoniae. However, which is often misdiagnosed and underestimated in clinic because it’s difficult to distinguish Klebsiella pneumoniae from its subspecies using classic clinical examinations. This case study is the first in clinic to report the fast and fatal effect of Klebsiella subspecies, and serve as reference for doctors diagnosing similar diseases. Case presentation A 52-years male patient was admitted to hospital due to unknown high fever. All examinations excluded the viruses, fungi, mycoplasma/chlamydia and parasitic infection. Classic bacterial culture revealed the klebsiella pneumonia, however sensitive antibacterial adheres to drug susceptibility results failed to improve patient’s symptoms. His condition worsened and rapidly entered sepsis and subsequent sepsis shock, died within 72 hours of symptom onset. The PMseq-DNA Pro High throughput gene detection was acquired on second day after death revealing the mixed infection of klebsiella variicola and klebsiella pneumoniae. Clinic evidences suggested that Klebsiella variicola rather than klebsiella pneumoniae contributed to patient’s poor prognosis. Conclusions: This is the first case reported that patient died from klebsiella subspecies infection within short period of time. Which suggests that we should be alert to the clinical hazards and fatal effect of klebsiella subspecies. Classic method is limited in guiding the anti-infection therapy for complex cases, early genetic detection should be recommended in the diagnosis and management of complex infection.

A total of 30 strains of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from different foods (16 of differents kinds of sausage, 14 cheese,) purchased at groceries of São Paulo City were ribotyped and analysed for the presence and expression of hemolysin gene and production of phosphatidylinositol-specific phosphalipase C - PI-PLC enzyme. The L. monocytogenes strains were differentiated into six ribotype classes. A total of 13 (43.3%) from these strains belong to the same ribotype (ribotype I), and was coincident to the ribotype of the standard L. monocytogenes prototype strain (ATCC-15313). The hemolytic activity was observed in 29 (96.7%) strains when incubated at 37oC, but not at 4oC. The direct colony hybridization method for hemolysin gene detection showed a positive reaction whit all the 30 L. monocytogenes strains, while showed negative reaction with other Listeria spp. The PI-PLC was produced by 27 (90%) of the strains analysed. There was no correlation between the six identified ribotypes and the virulence factors (hemolysin and PI-PLC) studied.

Biocides are widely used in medicine and various industries to protect against a number of harmful microorganisms. Organic quaternary ammonium and guanidine-containing compounds, the biological action of which is based on membrane-toxic properties, are used as bactericidal preparations. The aim of this work was to study the bactericidal and fungicidal activities of the synthesized oligomeric alkylsubstituted guanidinium bromides with different radicals -C3H7, -C7H15, -C10H21, against different isolates of heterotrophic bacteria and microscopic fungi. Methods. The synthesis of alkyl-substituted guanidiniumcontaining oligomers was performed in two stages. In the first stage, alkyl-substituted guanidine was obtained by the reaction of guanidine, previously converted by alkali from the salt form to the base form by the base and alkyl bromides (Alk=-C3H7 (propyl), -C7H15 (heptyl), -C10H21 (decyl)) in methanol at a temperature of 50°C and a molar ratio of 1:1. The second carried out the reaction between aromatic oligoepoxide DER-331 and alkyl-substituted guanidine in methanol at a temperature of 50°C for 2–3 hours and a molar ratio of 1:2. Bacteria were grown on meat-peptone agar for 48 hours at a temperature of 28±2°С. Test cultures of micromycetes were cultured on agar beer wort (6°B), incubated for 14 days in a thermostat at a temperature of 28±2°C. Antimicrobial activity of newly synthesized alkyl-substituted guanidinium-containing oligomers was determined by standard disco-diffusion method (method of disks on agar) and fungicidal activity was determined by the method of holes in agar. Results. Oligomeric alkylsubstituted guanidinium bromides with different radicals composed -C3H7, -C7H15, -C10H21- synthesized by the reaction of guanidine alkyl bromides with aromatic oligoepoxydes. It was found that alkyl-substituted guanidinium-containing oligomers at a concentration of 1–3% inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli 475, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 465, Klebsiella pneumonia 479, Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes 109, Staphylococcus aureus 451, E. faecalis 422, Rhodococcus erythropolis 102, Bacillus subtilis 138 and most of the studied micromycetes – Aureobasidium pullulans F-41430, Paecilomyces variotii F-41432, Penicillium funiculosum F-41435, Penicillium ochrochloron F-41431, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis F-41434, Trichoderma viride F-41437, Candida albicans F-41441, Aspergillus flavus F-41442, Aspergillus niger F-41448, Penicillium sp. F-41447. Conclusions. Antimicrobial and fungicidal properties significantly depend on the length of the alkyl radical, with increasing of its length the diameter of the zone of bacterial and micromycetes growth retardation increases.10.15407/microbiolj82.06.054

Seas assets that give us a variety of characteristic items to control bacterial, contagious and viral ailment and mostly utilized for malignancy chemotherapy practically from spineless creatures, for example, bryozoans, wipes, delicate corals, coelenterates, ocean fans, ocean bunnies, molluscs and echinoderms. In the previous 30 - 40 years, marine plants and creatures have been the focal point of overall endeavours to characterize the regular results of the marine condition. Numerous marine characteristic items have been effectively exceptional to the last phases of clinical preliminaries, including dolastatin-10, a group of peptides disengaged from Indian ocean rabbit, Dollabella auricularia. Ecteinascidin-743 from mangrove tunicate Ecteinascidia turbinata, Didemnins was isolated from Caribbean tunicate Trididemnum solidum and Conopeptides from cone snails (Conus sp.), and a developing number of up-and-comers have been chosen as promising leads for expanded pre-clinical appraisals. Sea anemones possess numerous tentacles containing stinging cells or cnidocytes. The stinging cells are equipped with small organelles known as nematocysts. The two species of sea anemones namely, Heteractis magnificaandStichodactyla haddoni, were collected from Mandapam coastal waters of Ramanathapuram district, Tamilnadu, India. The Nematocyst was collected and centrifuged, and the supernatant was lyophilized and stored for further analysis. The amount of protein from Heteractis Magnifica and Stichodactyla haddoni was estimated. The crude extract has shown haemolytic activity on chicken blood and goat blood. In material science, green method for synthesis of nanomaterials is feasible, cheaper and eco-friendly protocol. To accomplish this phenomenon, present study was aimed to synthesize Copper oxide nanoparticles using leaf extract of Aloevera with two different precursors CuCl2.2H2O (Cupric chloride) and CuSo4.5H2O (Cupric sulfate). The extraction of Aloevera is employed as reducing and stabilizing agent for this synthesis.Copper oxide Nanoparticles is effective use of biomedical application due to their antibacterial function. The synthesized Copper oxide nanoparticles were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction Spectroscopy (XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDX), FourierTransform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT- IR) and Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). XRD studies reveal the crystallographic nature of Copper oxide nanoparticles. Furthermore the Copper oxide nanoparticles have good Antibacterial activity against both gram negative (E.Coli, Klebsiella pneumonia) and gram positive (Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus)bacteria.
