This study investigated the significance of steel slag concrete created with varying water cement ratios. Steel slag from Prism Nigeria Limited was used to replace granite (at 0, 40, 50 and 60 %) in concrete. Properties of this modified concrete were examined and its results were exposed to measurable test utilizing Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The outcome indicated that the compressive and flexural qualities of the concrete increased with increased in slag content but consistently decreased as the water-cement ratios increased. The p-values of the ANOVA test for the models term are significant because they are less than 0.05.

Diseases transmitted by mosquito especially Aedes sp. there’s still happens in many areas of both city and village in Indonesia, until reducing Aedes sp. requires controlled effort. Attractant is a compound that can effect the behavior of mosquito even to decrease the population of mosquito directly.  Sugar fermentation can be a natural attractant, this solution can produce carbon dioxide compound that can be a attract for mosquito, until mosquitoes are attracted to ovitrap.  The purposes of this research was to determined the sugar fermentation to total of Aedes sp. eggs at ovitrap.  The research design used is a Complete Random Design (CRD) with 5 repeated. Analysis of data using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and if there are the significant differences of treatment then test continued with BNT test signification levels α = 5%.  The result is indicate that fermentation formula P1 (50 gr brown sugar+ 1 g yeast) found up to 15 mosquitos eggs at ovitrap with a percentage of 50% more than any other formula, ANOVA test indicate that the value of p<0,05 that’s mean there is none significant differences between the treatment.  Key words: Aedes sp.; attractant; sugar fermentation

The effects of steel slag with 0, 10%, 20 % and 40% content on the chemical shrinkage, autogenous shrinkage, internal relative humidity, and drying shrinkage of calcium sulfoaluminate cement paste were studied. The results show that the compressive strength of calcium sulfoaluminate cement paste at an early stage decreases gradually when the content of steel slag increases. When the steel slag content is 0 and 10%, the compressive strength of hardened cement pastes gradually decreases at 90 and 180 days, but the samples with steel slag content of 20% and 40% maintain the compressive strength growth within 180 d. With the extension of curing period, the gap of compressive strength is gradually narrowed. The autogenous shrinkage decreases with the increase of steel slag content and has a good linear relationship with the relative humidity inside the paste. The proportion of autogenous shrinkage to chemical shrinkage is deficient, and most chemical shrinkage occurs in the form of the pore volume. Although the trends of drying shrinkage and autogenous are consistent, the former is more severe than the latter.

Regular dredging is necessary for the development of coastal regions and the maintenance of shipping channels. The dredging process dislodges sediments from the seabed, and the removed materials, termed dredged marine soils, are generally considered a geowaste for dumping. However, disposal of the dredged soils offshores can lead to severe and irreversible impact on the marine ecosystem, while disposal on land often incurs exorbitant costs with no guarantee of zero-contamination. It is therefore desirable to reuse the material, and one option is solidification with another industrial waste, that is, steel slag. This paper describes the exploratory work of admixing dredged marine soil with activated steel slag for improvement of the mechanical properties. An optimum activation concentration of NaOH was introduced to the soil-slag mixture for uniform blending. Specimens were prepared at different mix ratios then left to cure for up to 4 weeks. The unconfined compressive strength test was conducted to monitor the changes in strength at predetermined intervals. It was found that the strength does not necessarily increase with higher steel slag content, indicating an optimum slag content required for the maximum solidification effect to take place. Also, regardless of the slag content, longer curing time produces greater strength gain. In conclusion, steel slag addition to dredged sediments can effectively strengthen the originally weak soil structure by both the “cementation” and “filler” effects, though the combined effects were not distinguished in the present study.

Concrete consumption greatly exceeds the use of any other material in engineering. This is due to its good properties as construction material and the availability of its components. Nevertheless, the present worldwide construction increase and the high-energy consumption for cement production means a high environmental impact. On the other hand, one of the main problem in iron and steel industry is waste generation and by-products that must be properly processed or reused to promote the environmental sustainability. One of these by-products are blast furnace slag. Cement substitution by slag strategy achieves two goals, raw materials consumption reduction and waste management. In the present work, four different concrete mixtures are evaluated. 25% cement is substituted by different blast furnace slag. Tests are made to evaluate the advantages and drawbacks of each mixture. Depending on the origin, characteristics and treatment of the slag, concrete properties change. Certain mixtures provide proper concrete properties. Stainless steel slag produces a fluent mortar that reduces the water consumption whit a slight mechanical strength loss. Mixture with electric arc slag furnace properties are better to the reference concrete (without slag) when slag is treated similarly to the cement.

To reduce the use of aggregates such as limestone and basalt, this paper used steel slag to replace some of the limestone aggregates in the production of SMA-13 asphalt mixes. The optimum content of steel slag in the SMA-13 asphalt mixes was investigated, and the performance of these mixes was evaluated. Five SMA-13 asphalt mixes with varying steel slag content (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) were designed and prepared experimentally. The high-temperature stability, low-temperature crack resistance, water stability, dynamic modulus, shear resistance, and volumetric stability of the mixes were investigated using the wheel tracking, Hamburg wheel tracking, three-point bending, freeze–thaw splitting, dynamic modulus, uniaxial penetration, and asphalt mix expansion tests. The results showed that compared to normal SMA-13 asphalt mixes, the high-temperature stability, water stability, and shear resistance of the SMA-13 asphalt mixes increased and then decreased as the steel slag content increased. All three performance indicators peaked at 75% steel slag content, and the dynamic stability, freeze–thaw splitting ratio, and uniaxial penetration strength increased by 90.48%, 7.39%, and 88.08%, respectively; however, the maximum bending tensile strain, which represents the low-temperature crack resistance of the asphalt mix, decreased by 5.98%. The dynamic modulus of the SMA-13 asphalt mixes increased with increasing steel slag content, but the volume expansion at a 75% steel slag content was 0.446% higher than at a 0% steel slag content. Based on the experimental results, the optimum content of steel slag for SMA-13 asphalt mixes was determined to be 75%.
