Background: ‪Participation in various extra-curricular sports activities is an important component of the professional activity of physical education teachers, regardless of whether we bring into discussion the organisation of such activities or training school teams in order to participate in these sports events. Material and methods: On the one hand, the present paper approaches the way in which teachers are involved in extracurricular sports activities from a descriptive perspective. On the other hand, the paper captures physical education teachers’ opinions on the way these sports competitions are organised and brings to attention some aspects that would need to be improved in this regard. Data were collected by a questionnaire addressed to physical education teachers from primary and secondary schools in Bihor County, Romania. Results: ‪Our results show the availability of physical education teachers to be involved in other extracurricular sports activities and to guide talented students toward various sports clubs. Conclusions: ‪Our research emphasises the need to improve certain aspects when organising local and regional sports competitions addressed to school teams as well as the importance to involve the public and private sector in these events.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence skills and self-efficacy levels among physical education teachers from the teachers' own perspective. The researchers developed two scales that measure the emotional intelligence skills; and another one to measure self-efficacy levels for physical education teachers. These two scales were applied on (70) teachers from public and private schools of the Salt Directorate of Education in Jordan. The results show a strong relationship between the emotional intelligence skills and self-efficacy levels among physical education teachers. Therefore, the results also showed that the physical education teachers have high levels of emotional intelligence skills and self-efficacy levels. Also, the results show the presence of statistically significant differences between teachers in the emotional intelligence skills for the benefit of male teachers, and between public and private schools for public schools. The researchers have recommended that it is necessary to teach some training programs about emotional intelligence to physical education teachers in both public and private schools and universities.

Since Bailey and Morley (2006) developed a model of talent development (TD) in physical education (PE), several researchers have attempted to understand TD in the PE context. However, the definition of ‘talent’ in PE remains unclear. Currently, identifying refers to using a range of predefined criteria to recognise potential; providing to offering support for those identified; and developing to the process of defining, identifying, and providing talent in PE. This study aimed to examine secondary school PE teachers’ perceptions of TD processes in PE. A purposive sample of 20 Spanish PE teachers was interviewed (n = 17 males and 3 females). Through thematic analysis, five main themes were identified. Teachers associated talented students in PE with physical abilities. Teachers suggested several limiting factors in identifying and supporting talent within PE, including a lack of curricular guidelines, knowledge, and time. However, some teachers acknowledged that they were not equipped with strategies for TD in PE. Some teachers employed strategies to limit the abilities of talented students and balance the level of the class, while others found it difficult to develop talent in PE. Additionally, extracurricular activities were considered to play a key role in TD. Furthermore, teachers’ pedagogy might be biased when developing talented students in PE, as the difference between sports talent and PE talent is unclear. Our results reveal a need for professional development in TD for PE teachers.

The state of emergency, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, has completely changed the education system in Bulgaria, including the training of physical education and sports in Bulgarian schools. Physical education and sports training have been transformed into distance and online education and training. The aim of the research was to study the competencies of PE teachers in the country for the implementation of online teaching. The subject of the study was a total of 138 teachers, of whom 100 (72.5%) were female and 38 (27.5%) were male. The teachers were aged from 24 to 68 years old, with different pedagogical experience and were representatives of all regions of the country. A specially developed international questionnaire with closed questions was applied. Alternative analysis and chi-square Pearson's test (ײ) were used to analyze the results. The results show that the sampled teachers evaluated the current use of online education in physical education and sport as relatively good (47.1%). At the same time, the acquired results show that the educational activity of sports pedagogues during the pandemic has reduced their motivation for professional activity (43.5%). Teachers have rated as very good (29.7%) and good (45.7%) their competencies for using online technologies to conduct physical education and sports classes. The majority of them – 79%, actively applied the new technologies in the training process. No differences were found in the answers of the respondents to any of the questions on the criteria of gender, age and pedagogical experience.

Abstract. As reflected in the literature and current regulations, the training of future physical education teachers on gender perspective is a necessity and a requirement in schools, sports activities, and society. This is essential for the transformation of traditional gender models and relationships, as well as for everything they entail. Therefore, incorporating critical reflection and providing tools for variations should be a mandatory task for teacher-training-focused universities. However, in physical education teacher training, or in Physical Activity and Sports Science education, feelings of rejection and discomfort in relation to gender issues are common among university professors. In order to help teachers overcome these barriers and have tools to develop a gender-sensitive teaching, in this article we present a pedagogical approach to incorporate gender perspective in the training of physical education teachers, as well as a proposal of learning situations that can be applied to this training.
