The Marketing Rhetoric of Hopeful Winter Spirit. Persuasive Power and Appeal to Senses in the Imagery of Veikko Huovinen’s Hamsterit This article offers a rhetorical reading of Veikko Huovinen’s Hamsterit (”The Hamsters”, 1957). I view the protagonist Hamsteri as a persuasive orator, whose eloquent speeches enhance the mundane practice of gathering winter storage with his literature-influenced aesthetics of survival in the arctic wild. While I focus my analysis on Hamsteri’s speeches, I also consider how authorial designs, the narrator, and other characters echo and complement each other and participate in Hamsteri’s rhetorical and aesthetic effort in a way that creates a poetics of unanimity into the novel, thus powerfully inviting also the reader to join the unanimity. I see similarities between Hamsteri’s rhetoric and TV commercials. is similarity is based on Hamsteri’s vivid imagery, which appeals to all the five senses in order to attach positive associations to the food and clothing that he persuades his friend Rurik to buy, when they prepare for the winter. A recurring device in Hamsteri’s speeches is the speculative description, which grows from vivid imagery and embeds micro stories into the main narrative, while also giving full freedom for his comically imaginative speculations. In surveying the comic aspects of Hamsteri’s speculative descriptions, I combine narratological and stylistic analysis by employing both the audience concepts of rhetorical narratology and the classical rhetorical figures as my conceptual tools.

This study aims to analyze Layla Al-Atrash’s Nesa’a Ala Al-Mafareq stylistically to address the issue of an identity crisis and self-alienation by shedding light on the Arabic narrative discourse that is used by Al-Atrash in the selected novel. The stylistic analysis focuses on casting lights on how the five protagonists of the selected novel employed their feminist narrative discourse to represent their suffering and how the old cultural and social values affect their lives. To achieve the aim of the study, the researcher relies on Geffrey Leech's (2006) theory of figurative language to analyze the novel. Accordingly, this study is considered as the first study focusing on analyzing the language used by Al-Atrash linguistically in light of the stylistic analysis of figurative speech such as a simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, and metonymy. The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative approaches with (SPSS) program for statistics. The results showed that Al Atrash succeeded in utilizing her feminist narrative discourse linguistically to introduce the catastrophic situation the woman has in the masculine society. Taking into consideration metonyms with the highest rates (189) indicating the problems that the Arab woman encounters without finding a solution. Although hyperbole (126= 23%) refers to the writer's trial to support the readers with the perfect image of a woman’s life and why she surrenders to reality and accepts the outdated conventions and traditions.

The article presents the results of the study of aesthetic function of interrogative utterances in the novel "Waterland" by G. Swift. The methods of component analysis, contextual analysis, and stylistic analysis were used in the research. The author assumes that interrogative utterances play the key role in representing imagery of the novel, facilitating thematical and conceptual unity, forming the chronotope and presentation of the inner world of the narrator. It was also found that interrogative utterances function in expressing emotivity and psychologism of a literary text as well as actualizing implicit senses, e. g. of certain images and episodes by means of such stylistic devices as aposiopesis, parenthesis, repetition, ellipsis and others. In general, the author assumes that in their aesthetic function interrogative utterances serve to convey the individual aesthetic model presented by the author in a literary text.

As I Lay Dying

While the second chapter of Style in Narrative addressed authorial canon (scope) and story (level), the third chapter considers a single work (scope) and narration (level). Faulkner’s novel As I Lay Dying seems to present a straightforward case of multiple narration. However, attention to details reveals that the novel is much more complex and apparently contradictory. In other words, the narrational style is marked by ambiguity and hints of untrustworthiness, along with unresolved issues of narrator definition (including, for example, hints that Addie could be in effect narrating the entire novel). The chapter shows not only the relevance of narration to style (and of stylistic analysis to narration), but the relevance of indeterminacy and ambivalence to style (and stylistic analysis) as well. The chapter concludes by examining some thematic implications of these features of narrational style and what they may suggest about Faulkner’s relation to American literature and literary modernism.

Polyploidy among plants is most frequent in the arctic, where glaciation cycles put selective pressures on populations by repeated fragmentation and fluctuation in climate. Polyploids should have been more fit in the novel habitats created as glaciers receded because of increased genetic material and novel gene products, which results in phenotypic plasticity and rapid adaptation. Higher ploidy is then expected to confer a broader tolerance of environmental conditions. Eutrema edwardsii R. Br. (Brassicaceae) is an arctic-alpine mustard with a near circumpolar distribution that occurs as a tetraploid, hexaploid, and octaploid. We used flow cytometry to document the distribution of polyploid cytotypes using herbarium tissue, and modeled the niche of each cytotype to test for niche differentiation. Flow cytometry revealed four cytotypes among 85 individuals. Notably, 60% of the herbarium tissue assays were successful using tissue up to 50 years old. Principle components analysis was performed on 20 climatic variables, of which, the first four axes were used as environmental variables for niche modeling. Niche models were created for tetraploid and hexaploid populations and used to calculate niche overlap (Shoener’s D). Overlap between tetraploid and hexaploid models (D = 0.534) is lower than the null distribution (D = 0.681–0.944) supporting the hypothesis of niche divergence.

Characterization is commonly known in stylistics to be the cognitive process in the readers' minds when comprehending a fictional character in a literary work .In one approach, it is assumed that characters are the outcome of the interaction between the words in the text on the one hand and the contents of our heads on the other. This paper is an attempt to understand how characterization is achieved by applying Culpeper’s (2001) model which seems to be to present a method of analysis that is more objective and more systematic in analyzing characters. Two characters are selected for discussion; Ralph and Jack from Golding’s (1954) Lord of the Flies. The novel talks about the corruption of human beings and the capacity of evil they have. The results show that Ralph and Jack are antithetical in many aspects; Ralph represents the rational civilized boy whereas Jack represents the savage brutal boy.

First and foremost, this contribution offers (1) a structural and rhetorical reading of the debates on the third day between Clement and Appion in the Pseudo-Clementine Homilies (Hom. 6) and shows that there is a well-considered rhetorical ring structure in their disputes. Connected with this first point (2), the suggested reading will unravel how Clement and Appion use and manipulate their sophisticated rhetoric, linked to this particular structure. This is well worth considering since these debates deal with Greek paideia, which means culture and above all education, of which rhetorical education forms part. The rhetorical features will be displayed as a fine product of the rhetorical and even sophistic background in Late Antiquity. Clement, moreover, will present himself as a master in rhetoric against Appion, who is presented as a sophist and grammarian in the novel. Finally (3), the focus on the narrative structure of and the rhetorical dynamics in Hom. 6. will contribute to a better understanding of these disputes between Appion and Clement (Hom. 4-6) and their function in the novel generally.

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background. Fluoroscopy is commonly used in cryoballoon catheter ablation for pulmonary vein (PV) isolation procedures in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Objective The purpose of this study was to verify the feasibility of a new dielectric imaging system in reducing the radiation exposure during cryoballoon ablation in patients with AF. Methods We enrolled 26 consecutive patients with paroxysmal AF: 13 patients underwent the procedure under fluoroscopy guidance before the new system introduction, while 13 patient underwent the procedure under fluoroscopy and KODEX-EPD system guidance with its occlusion tool software. After transseptal access a detailed image reconstruction of left atrium and PVs was achieved with the Achieve octapolar circular mapping catheter and the cryoablation was performed with the Arctic Front Advance cryoballoon. Results Total time of the procedure was comparable between the two groups (90.15 ± 28.67 vs 80.77 ± 17.17 using KODEX-EPD, p = 0.34), while fluoroscopy time was significantly lower in the group using KODEX-EPD (16.92 ± 8.96 vs 5.54 ± 2.06, p < 0.01). Acute isolation was achieved in all PVs. No 30 days complication was observed. Conclusion This is the first study that demonstrates the feasibility of a reduce fluoroscopy workflow using the novel KODEX-EPD system in a cryoballoon procedure. Abstract Figure. Fluoroscopy time

Palestinian literature received significance after Nakba (1948 Palestine-Israel war) and Naksa (1967 Arab-Israel war) and it laid an impact on Palestinian writers and there emerged a new form of literature called Palestinian American literature which got recognition in the 1990s internationally. After Nakba and Naksa many Palestinian families migrated to America. These Palestinians wrote literature in English that is called Palestinian-American literature. The aim of the stylistic analysis of Abulhawa's work to trace out how the writer constructs reality through lexical categories. This thesis also analyzes the work of Palestinian-American writer Abulhawa's novel, The Blue between Sky and Water, and focuses specifically on how the writer achieves her aims. At the same time, this stylistic analysis of The Blue between Sky and Water shed light on the use of Arabic words in English fiction which represent the culture and identity of the Palestinian nation. It explores the dilemma of Palestine that they become a foreigner in their native land. The researcher employed a mixed-method approach to conduct the present study. The researcher used Corpus stylistics tools to analyze the novel. The researcher traced around 6288 concrete nouns and 1634 abstract nouns from the sample respectively. The extensive use of concrete nouns showed that the main purpose of the writer was to get homeland and this piece of writing was not only art for art sake rather art for life's sake. The researcher traced out around 1400 adjectives from the sample of study.

This study describes the feminist stylistics in Woman at Point Zero novel. Woman at Point Zero is a novel about feminism, woman that demand equality and justice. The methods used is descriptive qualitative. The objective of this study is to find out the word, phrase / sentence, and discourse level presented in gender-specific in Woman at Point Zero novel. The result of this study uncovered the writing style or practice of the said author that has to do with the presentation of gender. Female characters differ from the male in that there are more descriptions given to them which pertain to their thoughts, emotions, experiences, vulnerability towards men, and their physical characteristics. Males, on the other hand, are described according to their physical strength, personalities, attitudes, which dominate females. The novel contains descriptions of women and men focusing on their physique, some of which displaying sensual appeal.

This paper aims to employ one of the corpus stylistic methods to analyze Thomas Harris's novel, The Silence of the Lambs. Recently, technology has invaded our lives. To put it differently, researchers depend highly on computers to access and gain information about certain data. Thus, it is crucial to keep up with the up-to-date developments concerning computational methodologies and toolkits. Corpus stylistics helps to find certain features that cannot be understood without using the techniques of computers. In order to achieve this goal, a quantitative and qualitative methodology is applied. Corpus stylistics helps to analyze lengthy texts more efficiently. This is not to say that it substitutes the manual stylistic one. In fact, both the corpus and manual stylistic analyses work hand in glove, and they complement each other. The tool that is used to conduct the analysis by examining keywords and key semantic domains is Wmatrix3. In addition to the previous tool, AntConc is a complementary tool to investigate n- grams in the novel and to point out their significance to the overall interpretation.
