This number represents the third publication of volume 12 of the official publication of the Brazilian Association of Medicine and Surgery of the Foot and Ankle. Is already released for on-line consultation (anticipated), to the extent that the volume of articles makes possible the optimization of our services. This brings benefits to authors and readers but increases the need to observe the guidelines that govern the formatting and execution of the scientific articles. It is an activity that counts with the collaboration of individuals trained to observe and apply the rigor of the technical standards of scientific publication. What is certain is that we must remain vigilant and accustomed ourselves with the specifics of the scientific production, and the planning of the methods of data collection and the subsequentanalysis of them. The submission of this protocol to the analysis of the ethics committees in research is what will give the endorsement so that it can execute it and, at the end, publish it. It becomes necessary that we are used to the rigor of the required procedures. In this sense, it is important that the sources of research funding are properly pointed out and that the results are adequately informed. The motivation to publish is directly associated with the desire to provide a high contribution to the technical-scientific knowledge on the surgery of the foot and ankle. We should alsohighlight the need to extend the training centers of orthopedists trainers’ and specialized in surgery of the foot and ankle, therefore, ensure the quality of our publications, based on rigid ethical, technical and scientific training. This edition brings a variety of articles that provides the surgeon of the foot and ankle a broad overview of the potential of our specialty, showing the regional differences and indicating what is open to all who are interested in study, teach, and reach a higher step in the actions for the well-being of our society. The members of our ABTPé have already demonstrated the ability to promote events that are of great importance for the diffusion of knowledge. The moment requires synergistic action to achieve the ideals pursued. Have all a great read. Jorge Mitsuo MizusakiEditor-in-Chief

Background. Much has been written about the care of the hopelessly ill adult, but there is little guidance for pediatric health care professionals in the management of children who are critically or terminally ill. Methods. Through a 3-day meeting in Tarrytown, NY, attended by a group of pediatricians and others directly involved in these issues, a principled approach was developed for the treatment of, and health care decision-making for, children who are gravely ill. Results. The group agreed that the needs and interests of the child must be the central focus of any treatment plan and that the child should be involved to as great extent possible, consistent with developmental maturity, in the decision-making process. Quality of future life should be viewed as being relevant in all decisions. Parents are believed to be the natural guardians of children and ought to have great latitude in making decisions for them. However, parental discretion is not absolute and professionals must maintain an independent obligation to protect the child's interests. Conclusions. Decision-making should be collaborative among patient, parents, and professionals. When conflict arises, consultation and ethics committees may assist in resolution. When cure or restoration of function is no longer possible, or reasonable, promotion of comfort becomes the primary goal of management. Optimal use of pain medication and compassionate concern for the physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being of the child and family should be the primary focus of the professionals caring for the dying child.

Experiential marketing and the quest to create memorable and extraordinary customer experiences have become central to tourism. However, implementing the concept of experiential marketing has been problematic due to a lack of knowledge regarding what makes experiences memorable, as well as inattention to the subjective and personal nature of experiences. This study explores the nature of individual experiences, particularly with regard to personal outcomes, emotions and meanings, by investigating tourists’ experiences of the same activity in three different consumption contexts. The influence of consumption context as well as significant differences in personal outcomes were evident, and more profound and meaningful than previous research suggests. Findings point to a need to understand tourist consumption experiences beyond hedonic enjoyment of the moment, and consider their broader implications on well-being and quality of life. Implications for tourism providers and experiential marketing are discussed.

Convective transport across dialysis membranes has been known for a long time to be a good alternative to diffusion. Predilution hemofiltration (HF) offers a better clearance of small molecules and overcomes the blood viscosity problems related to conventional postdilution HF treatment. Three patients have performed a total of 293 predilution HF treatment with AK 100 ULTRA. The bicarbonate substitution fluid has been prepared on-line by the machine. The treatments have been well tolerated and no adverse patients reactions related to the quality of the substitution fluid or the predilution HF treatment have been observed. There is a drop in creatinine for all patients indicating an improved creatinine clearance. Bicarbonate predilution HF has been shown to be a safe and efficient treatment modality, it offers the possibility to improve the cardiovascular stability of patients having problems with other treatment modalities an it offers an improved intertreatment well-being for the patients.

Social relationships are often touted as critical for well-being. However, the vast majority of studies on social relationships have relied on self-report measures of both social interactions and well-being, which makes it difficult to disentangle true associations from shared method variance. To address this gap, we assessed the quantity and quality of social interactions using both self-report and observer-based measures in everyday life. Participants (N = 256, 3,206 observations) wore the Electronically Activated Recorder (EAR), an unobtrusive audio recorder, and completed experience sampling method (ESM) self-reports of their momentary social interactions, happiness, and feelings of social connectedness, four times each day for one week. Observers rated the quantity and quality of participants’ social interactions based on the EAR recordings from the same time points. Quantity of social interactions was robustly associated with greater well-being in the moment and on average, whether they were measured with self-reports or observer reports. Conversational (conversational depth and self-disclosure) and relational (knowing and liking one’s interaction partners) aspects of social interaction quality were also generally associated with greater well-being, but the effects were larger and more consistent for self-reported (vs. observer-reported) quality variables, within-person (vs. between-person) associations, and for predicting social connectedness (vs. happiness). Finally, although most associations were similar for introverts and extraverts, our exploratory results suggest that introverts may experience greater boosts in social connectedness, relative to extraverts, when engaging in deeper conversations. This study provides compelling multi-method evidence supporting the link between more frequent and deeper social interactions and well-being.

Studies of human capital at the present stage of human development are extremely relevant, since at present human capital is steadily transforming from a factor of economic development into a target for its sustainable development. The paper proposes the basic tool i.e. a new mathematical model for assessing the impact of human capital on social well-being and development of Russian society. It uses the interdependencies among the criteria of human capital and general development. The tool proposed in paper will be powerful for improving and increasing the quality of human capital, improving the social welfare of society, bringing the most effective innovative solutions to the economy. The Human Capital can be assessed in particular by publications, proceedings, and other types of knowledge representation on the websites. And also all this materials can be automatically placed in other databases, including in Elibrary which can also be a parameter of a model. The assessments of the impact of human capital on social well-being and the development of regions and countries can be obtained automatically on-line.

Abstract. To date, few studies have focused on perceived overprotection from the perspective of people with dementia (PwD). In the present examination, the association of perceived overprotection in PwD is examined as an autonomy-restricting factor and thus negative for their mental well-being. Cross-sectional data from the prospective DYADEM study of 82 patient/partner dyads (mean age = 74.26) were used to investigate the association between overprotection, perceived stress, depression, and quality of life (QoL). The analyses show that an overprotective contact style with PwD has a significant positive association with stress and depression, and has a negative association with QoL. The results emphasize the importance of avoiding an overprotective care style and supporting patient autonomy.

Abstract. This article concerns the utility of ego psychoanalytic perspectives in Rorschach interpretation. Psychoanalytic ego psychology focuses on how people cope with events in their lives and how effectively they can meet challenges to their sense of well-being. The way people deal with experienced distress constitutes their defensive style and determines to a large extent what kind of person they are. Adequate defenses against anxiety promote comfortable and productive adjustment, whereas ineffective defenses typically cause adjustment difficulties and susceptibility to psychological disorders. In Rorschach assessment, the nature and effectiveness of a person’s defensive style can often be identified with a sequence analysis that integrates the structural, thematic, and behavioral features in the protocol. In particular, the sequential quality of responses, especially preceding and following instances of cognitive slippage, can help identify causes of upsetting concerns, defensive efforts to alleviating these concerns, and the adequacy of these defensive efforts in restoring equanimity. This interpretive process is illustrated with attention to implications for differential diagnosis and treatment planning in the Rorschach protocol of a 20-year-old suicidal woman.
