<p>Advertisement is a medium of communication between producers and consumers. An advertisement can be done through various media such as newspapers, magazines, internet, radio and/or television. In advertisement, producers try to create a sign to make a hidden message (mitos) behind.  Advertisement plays significant role in promoting such products because it spreads wider. Literacy of advertisements, through mass media is very essential in helping audiences to better see and understand how messages in the form of text, verbal and nonverbal are displayed through audio visual. The hidden message is created to convey consumers. So that, they can truly understand the message. Television is as one of the media to represent hidden message contained in an advertisement.</p><p>This study aims to analyze how the signs contained in the texts displayed in the SGM formula advertisement, version "Aku Anak SGM" on television. The methodology used was qualitative with a semiotic analysis approach. Semiotic approach from Barthes will be used by researchers to reveal the signs in these advertisements, by using signifier and signified to get hidden meaning inside. From this analysis can be revealed signs that are relevant to the message that the producer wants to assure the consumers. The existence of advertisements in audio-visual media with other media certainly has a different effect. Television is a complete media, because it can contain messages in the form of audio and visually. Commercial advertisements will have more selling power if they succeed in taking advantage of the advantages possessed by the media.</p>

Journalistic photos in online mass media are displayed with the aim of strengthening and visualizing the contents of the news. Therefore, journalistic photos in the newspaper have a role in involving feelings and arousing the emotions of readers. This research aims to analyze on how a message icon be known by its meaning both seen from the true meaning (denotative) and the meaning implied in it (connotative). To find the meaning contained in journalistic photographs, the author uses the semiotic approach. Semiotic analysis is a method for analyzing and giving meanings it symbols contained in a message or text symbol. The application if semiotics in intersexuality is an interaction between texts and thoughts contained in the narrative. A safe and peaceful general election discourse can be seen from the photo.

COVID-19 is the cause of the greatest pandemic of the century that affects almost every nation of our globe. In India, mass media has played a significant role in this pandemic situation. The media coverage revealed fearlessly the condition of COVID-19 and provides a pictorial view of the situation in front of the readers and viewers. The main objectives of these fearless journalistic works were to provide the public valuable authentic information, create awareness among the public, eliminate fake propaganda and fake news, highlight the problem face by the ordinary public, and to provide the government a medium to speak with the public for the public interest. Mass media served as a vital weapon to fight against COVID-19. The valuable information and instructions provided by mass media created awareness among the public and which played a major role to deescalate the graphical representation of active COVID-19 cases. The outbreak of COVID-19 and the dogmatic approaches of the mass media in the pandemic situation have recalled the concept of media as the third pillar of democracy.

Da'wah is an activity to spread knowledge of Islam to all corners of the world. With the development of the times, it becomes a challenge for the da'i so that their da'wah can be enjoyed and disseminated more widely. In this digital era, visual media is the most effective tool used to spread da'wah. One of the media that is currently popular is YouTube. The ease of YouTube's popularity needs to be put to good use, such as creating and displaying educational content with Islamic elements, such as films of the religious genre. The researcher analyzed the da'wah contained in rich short films without religious genre treasures on the YouTube channel of Muslim filmmakers to find the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth in the film. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The type of research used is field research, researchers observe the object directly. The results of this study are that the meaning of denotation in this study is about the description of human life in facing various trials of life in family, neighbors and friends. The meaning of the connotations in the short film Kaya without treasure is that sincerity, gratitude and patience will make us calmer and accept what is. The meaning of the myth in the short film rich without wealth is that alms will make us more grateful for what Allah SWT has given us. The message of moral da'wah is more dominant in this film.

Abstract Given the evolving multimodal features in educational settings, modes other than language further enable the diversity in the realization of meanings and pedagogic goals. This paper explores modality in multimodal pedagogic materials for teaching English as a foreign language in China. Drawing upon the social semiotic approach to modality in visual media, this study provides a comparative analysis of modality markers in different elemental genres that constitute the macrogenre of a teaching unit, with a focus on explaining the underlying reasons for the different choices in terms of coding orientation. It is shown that different degrees of deviation from the accepted coding orientation are employed in different constituent genres of the macrogenre of a given text.

Abstrak. Perkembangan era digital saat ini telah memperlihatkan transformasi nyata dari perubahan ruang periklanan. Iklan dalam bentuk film telah menjadi bagian dari media massa sebagai salah satu media representasi yang merupakan cerminan dari masyarakat. Bukalapak melalui YouTube, membalut makna feminisme dalam kemasan film AFTER 11 yang sekaligus merupakan iklan untuk membangun pandangan agar masyarakat lebih berdaya. Dengan memperlihatkan figur perempuan seorang ibu yang tidak hanya berkiprah di ranah domestik, namun dapat melakukan aktifitas ataupun pekerjaan yang bersifat maskulin. Karakter perempuan yang menyadari kebebasannya membuat menarik untuk menguak dan menelitinya dari sisi feminisme, dengan menggunakan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes yang memaparkan denotasi, konotasi dan mitos. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ada ideologi feminisme yang ingin dibawa oleh Bukalapak melalui media iklan dalam film AFTER 11, bahwa perempuan saat ini dapat beraktifitas sebebas-bebasnya tanpa perlu khawatir dan mampu berperan ganda dalam memenuhi kebutuhan anaknya, selain itu juga Bukalapak ingin mendobrak stereotip menjadi pengusaha harus dengan modal yang besar dan biasanya hal ini hanya dapat dilakukan oleh kaum kapitalis, namun dengan Bukalapak, UKM atau individu, ataupun hanya seorang ibu rumah tangga, dapat berdaya dan tangguh.Abstract. The development of the digital era today has shown a real transformation of the changing advertising space. Advertising in the form of films has become part of the mass media as one of the media representations that are a reflection of society. Bukalapak through YouTube, wrapped the meaning of feminism in the AFTER 11 film packaging which is also an advertisement to broaden views so that people are more empowered. By showing a female figure as a mother who not only takes part in the domestic sphere, but also carry out activities or jobs that are masculine. The character of women who realize their freedom makes it interesting to uncover and examine it from the side of feminism, using Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis which presents denotations, connotations and myths. The conclusion of this study shows that there is an ideology of feminism that Bukalapak wants to bring through the advertising media in the film AFTER 11, that women today can work as freely as possible without worrying and being able to play a dual role in meeting their children's needs, besides that Bukalapak also wants to break stereotypes being an entrepreneur must be with big capital and usually this can only be done by the capitalists, but with Bukalapak, UKM or individual, or just a housewife, can be empowered and resilient.

The folk shamans (minkan fusha 民間巫者) called itako イタコ, mainly active in Aomori and surrounding prefectures (Akita and Iwate), are well known nationwide thanks to mass media coverage. However, despite their increased visibility, there seems to be a gap between the itako as folk culture and the image of the “itako” as a component of the mass culture produced by the media. This article attempts to clarify the actual conditions of the itako from the 1970s to 1980s, especially focusing on the influence of the occult boom, by analyzing the discourse in print media. Beginning in the 1970s, the occult boom in Japan rediscovered the religiosity of the itako as the occult the masses wanted. As a result, the itako changed from being culturally other to part of “our” mysterious knowledge. Although this involved an attribution of value to the itako, it also meant that the religiosity of the itako was turned into an object of consumption for mass culture. This popularization of itako religiosity played a significant role in establishing the itako as a part of mass culture.

Influencing the policy agenda has long been viewed as one of the most important sources of political power. For decades, scholars have maintained that the president has the most significant role in setting the policymaking agenda in Washington, but little systematic empirical work has been done to measure the president's influence. We explore the president's success in focusing the issue attention of Congress and the mass media by evaluating time-series measures of presidential, mass media, and congressional attention to five issues: crime, education, health care, U.S.–Soviet relations, and the Arab-Israeli conflict. We find that most of the time the president reacts, responding primarily to fluctuations in media attention and world events. In domestic policy, we find a more interactive relationship, one that appears to offer the president the opportunity to act in an entrepreneurial fashion to focus the attention of others in the system on major presidential initiatives.

Sejarah memiliki peran penting dalam menilai kemajuan peradaban suatu negara. maka penyampaian sejarah dan peninggalan sejarah perlu dilestarikan agar tidak hilang dan dilupakan. Indonesia adalah salah satu negara di Asia yang memiliki sejarah panjang peradaban dengan kerajaan yang pernah berdiri di Indonesia, salah satunya adalah Kerajaan Singosari yang juga merupakan cikal bakal kerajaan Majapahit.Buku Visual Cagar Budaya Purbakala di Kabupaten Malang Mengambil dari fenomena yang ada akan pentingnya pelestarian warisan sejarah suatu bangsa sebagai bagian dari identitas bangsa tersebut. Salah satunya adalah dengan adanya sebuah media informasi dan visual yang menjabarkan secara informatif mengenai warisan cagar budaya purbakala tersebut. Namun media-media penunjang tersebut bukanlah karya anak bangsa sendiri melainkan karya peneliti dan arkeolog luar negeri yang justru jauh lebih tertarik dengan sejarah bangsa ini. Maka berangkat dari fenomena tersebut penulis mencoba menyusun sebuah media informasi mengenai wisata situs purbakala di Kabupaten Malang secara visual dan infromatif. Tujuannya agar warisan sejarah sebagai identitas bangsa tidak hilang dan terlupakan juga sebagai media penyalur informasi situs cagar budaya purbakala terhadap wisatawan,peneliti dan kalangan akademisi. History has a significant role in assessing the progress of a nation's civilization. then the delivery of history and historical heritage needs to be preserved so as not to be lost and forgotten. Indonesia is one of the countries in Asia that has a long history of civilization with kingdom that once stood in Indonesia, one of which is the Singosari Kingdom which is also the forerunner of the Majapahit kingdom.The Visual Book Travel Archaeological Heritage of Singosari Kingdom is taking from the phenomena of the importance of preserving the historical heritage of the nation as part of the national identity. One is the presence of a visual media and information outlining the heritage informative about the ancient cultural heritage. But the media is not supporting the work of the nation itself but rather the work of researchers and archaeologists abroad is far more interested in the history of this nation. So departing from this phenomenon the author tries to compile a media of information about the tourist archaeological sites in Malang Regency visually and informally. The goal for the historical legacy as the nation's identity is not lost and forgotten as well as a medium channeling information to the archaeological sites of cultural heritage tourists, researchers and academics.

This study analyzed the wisdom values contained in Sundanese proverb that relates to anti-hoax values. This study was conducted to bring backcharacter and philosophy of Sundanese community which contained in the Sundanese proverb, in order not to be forgotten and still applied in everyday life. The source of the data that collected in this study is derived from Babasan and PribahasaSunda Book. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with semiotic analysis approach of Roland Barthes. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe anti-hoax values that contain in Sundanese proverb. The result shows that the proverb of Sundanese containsanti-hoax values. Those values arevalues of accuracy in reading Information and values of honesty.

The urgency of the researched problem is connected with the growing role of mass media in modern conditions leads to change of values and transformation of identity of the person. The active growth of the role of the media, their influence on the formation and development of personality leads to the concept of “media socialization” and immutation in the media. The aim of the study is to outline the possibilities of the process of media socialization in the context of immutation in the media. The methods of our research are: analysis of pedagogical, psychological, literature, synthesis, comparison, generalization. The article analyzes the views of domestic and foreign scientists on the problem of immutation in the media and the transformation of the information space. In the context of the mass nature of the immutation of society, the concept of “media socialization” becomes relevant, which is the basis for reducing the negative impact of the media on the individual.The author identifies the lack of a thorough study of the concept of “media socialization” in modern scientific thought. Thus, media socialization is associated with the transformation of traditional means of socialization, and is to assimilate and reproduce the social experience of mankind with the help of new media.The article analyzes the essence of the concepts “media space”, “mass media” and “immutation”. The influence of mass media on the formation and development of the modern personality is described in detail.The study concluded that it is necessary to form a media culture of the individual, to establish safe and effective interaction of young people with the modern media system, the formation of media awareness, media literacy and media competence in accordance with age and individual characteristics for successful media socialization. The role of state bodies in solving the problem of media socialization of the individual was also determined. It is determined that the process of formation of media culture in youth should take place at the level of traditional institutions of socialization of the individual.The author sees the prospect of further research in a detailed analysis and study of the potential of educational institutions as an institution and a means of counteracting the mass nature of the immutation of society.Key words: immutation, media socialization, mass media, media space, information.
