Background and Purpose: The development of scholarship on Malaysian Literature in English (MLiE) continuously receives attention, especially on one particular direction, which is the studies of the Malays. Inspired by the Malay proverb “Diluah mati mak, ditelan mati bapa” (Malay for ‘between the devil and the deep sea), this study looked into local literature in relation to powerlessness and its social complexity where we argue that the Malays are often caught in-between entanglements that prohibit individualism, as due to societal prejudice.   Methodology: This study employed thematic analysis where upon familiarizing with Azhari’s short stories, namely Mariah and of Bunga Telur and Bally shoes, the researchers identified themes that help understand the types and causes of powerlessness as illustrated in the short stories before associating the Malays’ state of powerlessness and their emotional suppression.   Findings: Findings revealed that both genders suffer from the Malay prejudice and their own lack of emotional strength, causing both to be powerless captives in different contexts, unlike the Western societies where similar situations might lead to alienation.   Contributions: The study contributed towards the understanding of social phenomenon, namely issues regarding powerlessness among the Malays. Such contribution is significant at developing potentials within building national talent, especially those regarding family and spiritual values.       Keywords: Che Husna Azhari, emotional suppression, Malays, Malaysian literature in English, powerlessness.   Cite as: Ismail, H. Translators and writers are divided into two main groups regarding the method of translation that should be adopted in translating texts. One group believes that the translator should be true to the translated text, while the other group believes that the translator has the right to recreate the text into a more beautiful one.  This study deals with this issue from these two points of view and tries to answer the following questions: Why do we translate? What should we translate? How do we translate? The study relies on an innovative translation method developed by the Board of Maktoub Project for Translation that belongs to Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem to answer these questions. A group of about one hundred Arab and Jewish translators translated Arabic literature texts into Hebrew in an internationally new method, which is neither individual nor collective. It is a bilingual binational method. The translators consist of pairs of a Jewish or/and Arab translator, an Arab/or Jewish literary editor, and a linguistic editor, believing that translation is a text and culture, heritage, and traditions of a people or nation. This dual method gave the translated text its right of accuracy after it had been translated by one translator who can make mistakes due to his ignorance of the writer's culture. The study's conclusion confirms that bilingual binational translation is more fruitful and more accurate because it is based on dialogue, bilingual, and binational cultural knowledge.

The nationalist feeling is agitating again today. As far as the new and ultra-developed global scenario is concerned, a huge facet of exotic invasiveness is up for grab. People of the modern era are in the thought process that their native country might be under serious threat; even though; they would remain silent until their entity rattles. The national tale before Ivanhoe reflects national character as a synecdoche of an unchanging cultural space; here patriotism is a self-evident legacy, the result of unbroken continuity and a populist community that unites aristocracy and folks. Arguably, Sir Scott for the first time, enlightens the vision of national continuity through the forcible, often violent, entry into history that does the feudal folk community become a nation. Patriotism is a positive thing for every nation and its people. It’s undoubtedly a notion of proud and passion. But here in the novel Ivanhoe, the other aspect of patriotism has been also highlighted, which has the notion of negativity and intolerance. However, we should keep in mind the time when Sir Scott was writing the novel. This was the period where just the resentment happened between France and England. In fact, the novel Ivanhoe was published (1819) just after few years of Napoleonic Wars, where eventually, England went on victorious after the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo. Therefore, against this historical backdrop, the continuous struggle in Ivanhoe between domineering Normans (French) and honest Englishmen (Saxon and their allies) took on center stage to redefine the concept of patriotism.

Abstract:The post-modern era had witnessed the emergence of different philosophical views, theories and ideologies that influence the masses. Consequently, this had resulted in some negative tendencies such as the dullness of emotion and the domination of philosophical logic in thoughts that gave rise to the Western doctrines. The contents of this philosophy had further influenced our modern literature in a negative manner. It is unfortunate that blind following of these doctrines was a found in many of our modern writers that distorted the meaning of literature. In response to this, some modern writers had made the call for the concept of ‘commitment’ in literature and what it promotes in terms of the restoration of the role of the universe, the man and the life that gave rise to the concept of Islamic literature. As a result of this, the concept of literature had been contested by both parties as to what it really stand for. Keywords: Islamization – ‘Aulad haratina’ – Satanic verses – The Deputy of Izrael – Islamic Literature. Kata kunci: Islamisasi – Budak Jalanan – Ayat-Ayat Syaitan – Pembantu I’zrail - Sastera Islam.

Modern Balinese literature is one of the fields of classification in the world of Balinese literature. Balinese literary works that were born in the modern era or after the inclusion of foreign cultural influences in Balinese literary works are called modern Balinese literature. At the beginning of its emergence in the pre-independence era, modern Balinese literature was conceived by teacher teachers who served in formal schools established by the Dutch colonial. The early works of these teachers became a milestone in the birth of modern Balinese literature. Narrative texts written by I Made Pasek and Mas Niti Sastro became the initial embryos of Balinese short stories. In the form of some narrative texts they have presented a very modern form, no longer similar to the form of narrative doengeng or folklore. Then in content, the value content offered by the author is a very modern value content, not merely the values ??of tradition.
