Bauhinia purpurea (B. purpurea) (family: Fabaceae) commonly called as butter fly tree has vast medicinal uses and remarkable pharmacological potential. Various phytoconstituents, extracts and parts of this plant were possess significant pharmacological activities such as cardiac activity, antifungal, wound healing, antidiabetic, antiulcer, antioxidant, antinociceptive, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, antidiarrhoeal, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic, antimalarial, gastro protective and cytoprotective activity. The present study emphasizes the overview of recent studies and/or updates on pharmacological potential of B. purpurea.

Background: Herbal drugs and their derived phytochemicals have been used in medicine for the preparation of different types of pharmaceutical products. Pure phytochemicals including flavonoids, alkaloids and terpenoids have been used in medicine for the treatment of different types of human disorders including cancerous disorders. Flavonoids have been well known in medicine for their anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-aging and cardioprotective potential. Avicularin, also called quercetin-3-α-l-arabino furanoside, is a pure flavonoid, a class of phytochemicals, found to be present in Lindera erythrocarpa and Lespedeza cuneata. Avicularin has been well known in medicine for its anti-cancer properties. Methods: In the present work, scientific data of avicularin have been collected from different databases such as Google, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar and Scopus and summarized with reference to medicinal importance, pharmacological activities and analytical aspects of avicularin. The present review summarized the health beneficial properties of avicularin in medicine through data analysis of various scientific research works. Further analytical progress in medicine for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of avicularin in medicine has been also discussed in the present work. Results: Scientific data analysis of different literature work revealed the biological importance of flavonoid class of phytochemical ‘avicularin’ in medicine. Scientific data analysis revealed that avicularin was found to be present in the Lindera erythrocarpa, Lespedeza cuneata, Rhododendron schlipenbachii and Psidium guajava. Avicularin has been well known in medicine for its anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor and hepatoprotective activities. Avicularin protects cardiomyocytes and hepatocytes against oxidative stress-induced apoptosis and induces cytotoxicity in cancer lines and tumor tissues. Avicularin has positive influence on human hepatocellular carcinoma and inhibits intracellular lipid accumulation. The role of avicularin in rheumatoid arthritis has been also established with its underlying molecular mechanisms in the scientific work. Recent interest in avicularin has focused on pharmacological investigations for its anti-cancer activity in the medicine. Conclusion: The present work signified the biological importance of avicularin in medicine through its medicinal uses, pharmacological activities and analytical aspects in the biological system.

Skin is the vital organ of the human system; however, due to its high exposure to the external environment, it was susceptible to various traumatic conditions. During the time of trauma human body played a significant role in the activation of various biological processes for enhancing the wound healing activity in case of damaged tissues. However, in case of skin tissue defects, to enhance the angiogenesis minimal scar formation, several pharmaceutical products were paving their way into the market. Now a days there was a rising worldwide utilization of several bioactive compounds obtained from terpenoids. Terpenoids are 5-carbon compound isoprene with oxygen-containing functional groups were isolated from several plants demonstrates a wide range of activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activity. Furthermore, due to their excellent cytoprotective activity, terpenoids based products had played a significant role in wound healing activity. Moreover, in our study, because of their excellent wound healing capability, we reviewed about the few drug molecules such as Tocopherol, Farnesol, Betulin, Retenoic acid, Coenzyme Q10. However, now a day's terpenoids were utilized in several wound-healing formulations because of their excellent anti-inflammatory, re-vascularization and re-epithelization characteristics. Finally, this review focuses on the role of a few drug products obtained from terpenoids as an ideal topical wound healing agent in modern medicine.

Background: Phytoconstituents of fruits, vegetables, spice and herbs are important for human health. Phytoconstituents play an important role in the growth, development, defensive mechanism, colors, odour and flavors of plants. Psoralea corylifolia Linn (P. corylifolia) commonly known as ‘Bakuchi’ belongs to Leguminosae family widely distributed in China and Southeastern Asian countries. Methods: Various electronic databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus and Google were searched to collect the data of the present review. Further, all the collected information was categorized into different section as per the aim of the paper. Moreover, analyzed data were also presented in the graphical abstract. Results: Seventy-two research and review papers have been collected and were included in the present review. Nineteen papers contained general information’s of P. corylifolia, Psoralens and psoralidin whereas thirty paper data were presented in the pharmacological activities sections and remaining in the Analytical tools and discussion section. From these databases, we can say that P. corylifolia possesses antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antioxidant, antiflarial, estrogenic, antitumour, and immunomodulatory activities. Psoralens are mainly used in the treatment of psoriasis, vitiligo and dermatitis. Topical or oral psoralens followed by UVA radiation exposure are one of the best treatments of leucoderma. Psoralidin exhibits antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities. Conclusion: This review summarizes an overview of P. corylifolia, psoralen and its derivative psoralidin with respects to their pharmacological activities, medicinal uses, biological activities and bioanalytical aspects. These data will be helpful in the translation of information from traditional to the modern medicine of psoralidin.

AbstractPlumbago zeylanica L. (Plumbaginaceae) commonly known, as chitrak is pharmacologically important plant. Various studies have been undertaken to assess the pharmacological potential of different parts of the plant namely like roots, stem, flower, and leaves as antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, anticancer, antifertility, antiulcer, antifungal and wound healing. The intention of the present review is to deliver a concise account on its ethnobotanical uses, phytochemistry with an in-depth study of its phytoconstituents, facts and prospects of its potential pharmacological activities of this golden plant. An extensive literature survey was undertaken through different online platforms viz. Google Scholar and online databases namely PubMed, Science Direct and Springer. All papers based on traditional medicinal uses and pharmacological properties were included. Sixty three research articles and review articles were found to be apt for inclusion into the review. About 150 articles were retrieved for the purpose. The elaborative results vindicated that Plumbago zeylanica L. holds significant prospects in major health conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, ulcer, liver problems, obesity, wound healing, cancer etc.

Argyreia speciosa (Linn.f.) (Family: Convolvulaceae, Synonyms: Argyreia nervosa) is used in the traditional Ayurvedic systems of medicine as well as in local health folklore. It is commonly known as Vidhaara in Hindi and Hawaiian Baby Woodrose and Elephant creeper in English. It is the large climber and seen throughout India up to an altitude of 500 m. A. speciosa possess various pharmacological activity such as anti-aging, gastroprotective, analgesic & anti-inflammatory, aphrodisiac, antiviral, antidiabetic,  anticonvulsion, antioxidant, antidiarrheal, antiulcer, central nervous system depressant, nematocides, nootropic, anticancer and many more. Apart from this numerous phytoconstituents have been isolated from A. speciosa. Its seeds principally contain lysergamides, eragine and isoeragine which responsible for its hallucinogenic properties. The present paper efforts bring to light the available literature on A. speciosa with respect to traditional, ethnobotanical, phytoconstituents and review of different pharmacological activities. The medicinal plant Calycopteris floribunda Roxb. Lam. commonly known as “Ukshi” belongs to the family Combretaceae. Calycopteris floribunda is a large evergreen climbing shrub native of Bangladesh and India. It is widely distributed in the central and southern parts of India and also found in south-east Asian countries. The branches store abundant water for its own purpose as well to quench the thirst of the forest dwellers. Hence the forest habitants are referring this plant as a lifesaver. Calycopteris floribunda finds a place in traditional Asian medicinal systems, including Ayurveda, Folk and Unani. The anti-inflammatory flavonoid compound calycopterin is present in the leaves of the plant. In Ayurveda this plant is used to treat for leprosy, malarial fever, dysentery, ulcers, vomiting, wound healing and cytotoxic. It is hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, antiviral and used for numerous ailments. A review on the medicinal plant Calycopteris floribunda was done in the period from 1934 to 2020. Here, we are focusing on the isolation, phytochemical constitution and pharmacological potential of Calycopteris floribunda plant.

Rotula aquatic Lour is an important medicinal herb in Ayurvedic system of medicine. The plant occurs as a small branched shrub that grows characteristically among rocks and trailing over pebbles in stream beds, belonging to the family Boraginaceae and widely distributed throughout India. It is commonly called as Pasanabheda in Ayurveda. As only few studies are done on this plant, the comprehensive review presenting here will summarize regarding its Phytochemical and Pharmacological activities with the help of available and update information. Various studies indicated the antiurolithiatic, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anthelmintic properties of Rotula aquatica. Although the information are very encouraging and revealed some of the constituents of the plant like polyphenols and tannins as important therapeutically agents. The herb should be studied more extensively to confirm these results and reveal other potential therapeutic effects. Various traditional claims of the plant are still remain to be validated scientifically. Clinical trials for the reported preclinical studies should be performed urgently to further validate the claims on humans

: Plants have been the main source of molecules for treatment of diseases through the years. They have been used in traditional medicine based on experience and practice. Many molecules from plant latex have been isolated, identified and tested for pharmacological activities, including reduction of inflammation. This review provides an overview about the latexes released from different plant species and their anti-inflammatory properties. Different in vivo and in vivo assays have been performed trying to confirm this pharmacological potential. Many studies suggest that latexes from plants have therapeutic potential to treat inflammatory diseases and support their traditional medicinal use.

Abstract:: Furanone is present in many natural compounds. Furanone derivatives are playing important roles in pharmaceutical medicinal and organic chemistry. Various furanone derivatives were exhibited their different pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, antioxidant, and other anticipated activities. Furanone derivatives were also used as intermediate for synthesis of other organic compounds. In this review, we studied different types of pharmacological activities of several furanone derivatives.

Colebrookea oppositifolia commonly known as ‘Bhaman’ is distributed throughout India from the Himalayas down to Deccan. The plant is used traditionally as such as dermatitis, dysentery, fever, headache, peptic ulcer, haemostatic, wounds, as anti-fertility agent, fungicide, and the roots of the plant has been most widely used for the treatment of epilepsy.. Medicinally, it has been proven to possess various pharmacological activities like treating corneal opacity or conjunctivitis, sore eyes due to its anti-inflammatory properties, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antihelmintic, antifungal, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antinociceptive, cytotoxic activity, anticonvulsant, antiulcer, antimicrobial, anti-fertility, antipyretic and insecticide. Further, studies reveal the presence of various phytochemical constituents mainly flavone glycosides viz. chrysin, negletein, landenein; leaves contain 5,6,7- tri-methoxyflavone, 5,6,7,4'-tetramethoxyflavone, acteoside, and quercetin in the bark; root contains stearic, palmitic, oleic acids, triacontanol, flavone glycoside echioidin, 5,6,7-trimethoxyflavone and 4',5,6,7- tetra methoxy flavone; sugars and vitamins have also been isolated from this plant. These studies reveal that Colebrookea oppositifolia is a source of medicinally active compounds and have various pharmacological effects; hence, this drug encourage finding its new therapeutic uses.
