The rapid growth and development of Islamic Bank should be aligned with the effective and efficient human capital development process. However, in the age of rising, there are still problems that create a public hesitation towards the Islamic banking system. No doubt, performance is related to the competency and job motivation and is quite popular whenever a discussion on the improvement of job performance. The term competency has been widely used in various industries. It relates to the knowledge, expertise and ability and values of the top performer in an organization. Past researches have been carried out on the Islamic banking especially in the areas of customer satisfaction, the selection factors of banking facilities among the consumers, analysis on the development and growth and liquidity requirement. However, there is still a lack of research on Islamic banking employees especially in relation to the elements of competency towards job performance among the employees and religiosity as the moderator. Hence, this study is conducted to fill the gap that exists in this existing knowledge. As such, the hypotheses were derived from the literature as follows: Hypothesis 1: There is significant relationship between technical competency and job performance of Islamic banking employees in Malaysia Hypothesis 2: There is significant relationship between behavioral competency and job performance of Islamic banking employees in Malaysia Hypothesis 3: Religiosity has the moderator effect to influence the relationship between technical competency and job performance of Islamic banking in Malaysia Hypothesis 4: Religiosity has the moderator effect to influence the relationship between behavioral competency and job performance of Islamic banking in Malaysia.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine selection factors among multi-ethnic customers in Malaysian Islamic banking industry. The information is important to reinforce the argument that ethnicity could become significant factor in determining customer behaviour. Design/methodology/approach This study uses quantitative approach by using questionnaire (Likert scale) to measure respondents ranking of 25 selection factors. A total of 272 valid responses were generated from 450 questionnaires distributed, with 60.4% response rate. The methods of analysis used are descriptive analysis, factor analysis and Kruskal–Wallis test. Findings The findings revealed five selection factors (religious and ethical, services and convenience, service quality and benefit, external and operational and charges), with religious and ethical factor as the most important criteria for Malay customers. As for Chinese and Indian customers, they chose services and convenience factor. Originality/value This study is conducted to gain new insights on the perception of multi-ethnic banking customers in Malaysia towards Islamic banks and how cultural differences might affect their decisions. The findings are important for further development of the Islamic banking industry in Malaysia considering ethnicity has a major impact on the society. The acknowledgement of similarities and differences between the ethnic groups could strengthen the relationship with the Islamic banking customers. Furthermore, incorporation of ethnicity factor in bank’s marketing strategies is important to secure competitive advantage particularly in dual banking system such as in Malaysia.

Islamic banking has become the fastest growing sector in the financial markets of the world in the past three decades, and this growth trajectory has coincided with the world’s renewed interest in the ideas of ethical banking. This raises the question regarding the actual nature of the relationship between ethical and Islamic banking systems, and the analysis in the current paper intends to provide answers to this question. The analysis has shown that the practices of Islamic banking system fit into ethical banking framework to a greater extent. It concludes that Islamic banking forms part of the broad ethical banking brand, and thus its rapid growth at the time when the ethical banking movement gathers new momentum could not be a matter of sheer coincidence.The paper also examines three business management implications of its findings. One implication is that proper name selection is an important aspect of successful branding and marketing of products or services; and the second is that we are in the age of committed consumption whereby principles, ethics and image are issues of importance in people’s choice of brands. The third implication is that market niching business strategies could bring success if properly designed and executed.

The purpose of this study is to establish the relationship between the effectiveness of the training programs and job performance as perceived by teachers in Malaysia. This study investigates the relationship between the level of effectiveness of training with respect to reaction, learning and behavior outcomes and job performance. 210 respondents from various government schools in Klang Valley had participated in this study through a self-administered survey. The results disclosed that all level of effectiveness have significant relationship with job performance. Therefore we can conclude that teachers indeed need and appreciate all the training programs designed by TED currently.

Islamic banking products (IBP) are offered not only to the Muslim community, but also to communities of other religions who are free to choose products depending on their convenience. According to a report, the percentage of non-Muslim communities choosing IBP in Malaysia has been steadily increasing and is expected to continue to increase in future. The Dual Banking System is one of the initiatives that has been created in conventional banks as an extra facility for the communities to engage with IBP easily without going to Islamic Banks. This paper aims to study the factors that drive non-Muslim customers to accept IBP. Specifically, this paper examines the relationship between four factors: knowledge, understanding, perception and the level of awareness among non-Muslim customers regarding their acceptance on IBP in the Dual Banking System. About 140 non-Muslim IBP customers of the Dual Banking System around Changlun, Jitra and Alor Setar were selected based on convenience and were randomly picked as respondents of this study. Some data were also collected through interviews with the bank personnel and the bank’s customers besides the self-administered questionnaire survey. Employing the SPSS approach, the hypotheses of the study were tested. The findings showed that there are significance relationships between customer’s knowledge, understanding, positive perception, and the level of awareness perceived among non-Muslim customers and their acceptance of IBP.   Keywords: Islamic banking products; non-Muslim customers; acceptance.

Small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in the economic development of Malaysia, of which the majority are in the service sector. Employees of the service sector SMEs have often been associated with low level of job performance and past research has shown that there are many factors that can contribute to employee poor performance such as role ambiguity. Thus the aim of this study was to examine the relationship between role ambiguity and job performance of employees in the service sector SMEs in Malaysia. 1500 questionnaires were distributed and 300 were returned resulting in a 20% response rate. The result revealed that there was a significant relationship between role ambiguity and job performance of employees.

Financial industries are rapidly accepting the Islamic banking system. Using theory of reasoned action (TRA) model the study investigates the three factors including attitude, religiosity and subjective norms in measuring the intention of customers to adopt Islamic banking products along with moderating role of pricing. The sample of 220 banks consumers from two cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are gathered using convenient sampling. Regression results suggest that all three factors influence the intention of customers in buying Islamic banking products. Moreover, pricing moderates the relationship in developing intention of customer to adopt Islamic personal financing in the context of religiosity.The finding of the study identifies that Islamic bankers should adopt pricing policy based upon fair practices of Shariah. In addition awareness to people about Islamic products through marketing is essential in clearing their misconceptions towards investment in Islamic products.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the relationship between project management competency, job motivation and performance in people engaged in electronic commerce (e-commerce). A questionnaire was developed for e-commerce workers in various professional aspects including business strategy planning, content management and design, sales services, marketing business sales, host settings, analysis and management. A total of 299 valid questionnaires were retrieved. Multiple regression analysis was applied to the testing and analysis on important competences for project management and the factors influencing job performance. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the related indexes are measured mainly through appropriate questionnaire design and the questionnaires were mainly distributed among employees and managers of the e-commerce enterprises. Tables 5–1 provide the personal profiles of the e-commerce personnel. A total of 350 questionnaires were distributed and 320 questionnaires were returned. After the 320 questionnaires were sorted and categorized, 21 incompletely-filled and invalid questionnaires were excluded, for a total of 299 valid questionnaires that were returned. Based on the quantitative data obtained from the returned valid questionnaires, files were created and statistical analyzes were conducted by the computerized statistical software statistical product and service solutions 21. According to the research question and nature of this study, the present study mainly adopted statistical methods, including descriptive statistical analysis, reliability analysis, Pearson’s correlation analysis and regression analysis. Findings The results suggested that the project management competency of those engaged in e-commerce had a positive influence on their work performance. The capabilities in the management of integration, scope and procurement were significantly important factors identified in this study. In addition, the internal and external motivations of those engaged in e-commerce had a positive influence on work performance, and thus, facilitated their influence on the project management competency. The results and statistical analysis could be a reference in e-commerce-related business management and serve as the basis for evaluation of the training of project management competencies for those engaged in e-commerce and further improvements of human capitals and corporate competitive advantages. Originality/value This study used literature on project management competence and job performance as a foundation; previous studies argue that project management competence has a positive correlation with job performance. Empirical results reveal that among the e-commerce personnel, most dimensions of project management competence are significantly correlated with job performance. This study reveals that stakeholder management competence, the newly introduced 10th dimension of project management competence, is also significantly correlated with job performance. Therefore, study results reveal that project management competence has a significant positive correlation with job performance. In this study, the two constructs of internal motivation and external motivation in job motivation are introduced for use as disturbing factors. Empirical results reveal that internal motivation and external motivation have a significant positive disturbing effect with respect to the influence of cost management competence and human resource management competence on job performance. Hackman and Oldham (1975) contend that the jobs calling for a variety of skills can boost the job motivation of employees. Study results reveal that job motivation is of great importance to the influence of project management competence on job performance and can be used as the basis for improving job performance.

This study examines the relationship between the type of college degree, level of college degree, and superiors' perceptions of managers' attributes and their work performance in some management areas. No significant relationship has been found between the managers' college education and their performance at work. The implications of these findings for practicing managers are addressed.
