This study aims to find out hoaxes on social media and how the form of tabayyun and its implementation can be a method of preventing hoaxes spread on social media. Using this type of research mixed methods with the design of the Sequential Exploratory Strategy. The subjects in this study N Total = 514 who were Muslim students at universities in Palembang City which were determined using purposive sampling technique. The data collection method used an online survey. Data analysis using coding techniques (open coding, axial coding and selective coding) version 9 of the Atlas.ti program and product moment analysis and testing for level categorization of the IBM SPSS version 24 program. This study found, first, the form of hoaxes on social media: 1) News lie; 2) False information; 3) Does not match the facts. Second, students have not implemented tabayyun optimally in responding to news on social media. The form of the application of tabayyun is to seek the truth by thinking critically, observing and confirming the news and information obtained.

People who live in urban areas tend to have a higher stress level than those who live in rural areas. Level of stress can be prevented and diminished through the establishment of urban relaxation spaces within the city. Urban city planning needs to consider citizens’ preferences as potential users to obtain the maximum result. This study aims to determine the characteristics of preferred urban relaxation spaces within the city. The research was conducted through a grounded theory approach and exploratory qualitative method. Data collection was carried out based on the open-ended online survey questionnaire with a non-random sampling technique. Data was then analyzed by content analysis in three stages: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The finding shows that there are six aspects of preferred urban relaxation spaces: the sense of nature, facilities, tranquility, ambience, accessibility, and quality of space. Research is expected to explore new potentials in urban planning in accordance with the characteristics of its citizens.

Social media, which was originally used to communicate with other people via online, has begun to be used to exchange knowledge so that it makes it easy for many people to learn more flexibly and without boundaries. Indonesian people are more motivated to learn and practice English through social media, considering that the ability to speak English is a special value when applying to job. However, the main function of social media itself, namely the freedom of expression and opinion, is also an inhibiting factor in learning English. Lots of social media users seem to be less wise in their opinions, especially on grammar issues and do not hesitate to criticize grammatical errors in English posts. The term grammar-nazi is usually attached to these people who tend to correct the grammar. This is the main focus of researchers to conduct grammar-nazi analysis in the process of learning English among millennials in Indonesia which is carried out online. Our research process includes data collection through observation, open coding techniques, axial coding, selective coding, synthesis of results, drawing conclusions, and providing suggestions. Some opinions such as Lauren & Connie (2005) and Mohd Amin et al.  (2016) in their research provides an overview of the responses of users who showed a positive  with this phenomenon. Meanwhile, research by James E. Carroll (2016) and Sherman & Jaroslav (2014) shows a negative response disagreeing with this phenomenon. The results of this study are expected to be able to provide a sufficient account on grammar-nazi phenomenon in the process of learning English among millennials in Indonesia.

Digitalization in the modern era has provided opportunities for the youths to participate in this information and social spheres. The concentrated use of social media has contributed to the astonishing factor among the voters where social media has changed the preferences of youths toward the right to vote. The research aims to investigate the contributions and preferences of youths toward political participation in the contemporary discussion in Indonesia. This research was quantitative research using a purposive random sampling technique to give equal opportunity to each respondent. The mode of data collection was an online survey. The majority of the respondents in this research were the student of the universities. Data were collected in April 2019 to examine the interest of youths in general elections in Indonesia. This research found that social media and Social Networking Sites (SNSs) have provided a unique platform to discuss political matters and ‘take apart’ in political discussions. Existing in-depth researches on this phenomenon show that political awareness among youths in Indonesia is an essential part and social media is the leading indicator. This research suggested some recommendations for to usage of social media for the socialization of youths.

Social media use has been increasing apace regardless of geographical and economic boundaries. In particular, its penetration has occurred more rapidly in developing and low-income countries with abounding health and psychological disadvantages. Given the understanding that women are more prone to psychological disorders than men, the current research is an effort to examine social media motives and subsequent effects on the psychological well-being of women social media users in Pakistan. The study is based on an online survey conducted to ascertain as to what extent social media use contributes to women’s psychological well-being or otherwise. The survey recorded responses of 240 women selected through purposive sampling technique. SEM-PLS analysis of the collected data revealed that social media usage plays a meaningful role in women’s psychological health. However, results exposed that Pakistani women, under the traditional patriarchal social pressure, not only have to observe cultural norms in online practices but are also forced to adhere to socially constructed gender roles in online spaces. The mixed results suggest conducting extensive research for a deeper insight into the role of social media in psychological well-being of women in other low-income countries.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the features of health misinformation on social media sites (SMSs). The primary goal of the study is to investigate the salient features of health misinformation and to develop a tool of features to help users and social media companies identify health misinformation.Design/methodology/approachEmpirical data include 1,168 pieces of health information that were collected from WeChat, a dominant SMS in China, and the obtained data were analyzed through a process of open coding, axial coding and selective coding. Then chi-square test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were adopted to identify salient features of health misinformation.FindingsThe findings show that the features of health misinformation on SMSs involve surface features, semantic features and source features, and there are significant differences in the features of health misinformation between different topics. In addition, the list of features was developed to identify health misinformation on SMSs.Practical implicationsThis study raises awareness of the key features of health misinformation on SMSs. It develops a list of features to help users distinguish health misinformation as well as help social media companies filter health misinformation.Originality/valueTheoretically, this study contributes to the academic discourse on health misinformation on SMSs by exploring the features of health misinformation. Methodologically, the paper serves to enrich the literature around health misinformation and SMSs that have hitherto mostly drawn data from health websites.

In an online survey, 108 mobile phone users in the age bracket of 18 to 21 in India reported their emotional responses to six humorous, warning, and philosophical messages in real time. Using open coding, researchers coded respondents’ sentiments into positive, negative, and neutral categories and traced their effect on (a) the respondents’ intention to forward the messages, which was captured in real time; and, (b) potential recipients of the forwarded messages. Findings inform the research on electronic word-of-mouth on social media-based instant messaging platforms and mobile phones. Implications in terms of identifying and containing the spread of misinformation on social media are discussed.

Introduction: A pandemic is defined as an outbreak of a disease that occurs over a wide geographic area and affects an exceptionally high proportion of the global population.Objective: This study aims to observe the discrepancies that social media provides users in terms of information regarding COVID-19 and how that information can affect practices for prevention against the virus.Methods: A cross-sectional study, with a non-probability convenience sampling technique, was conducted during April 2020. An online survey was created on Google Forms in the English language, and participants were invited to complete and submit the form. A total of 402 responses were received in one month. Citizens of age 18-60 partook in the study, and respondents tested positive for Covid-19 were excluded from the study as it could lead to bias.Results: A total of 375 responses were selected out of the 402 responses received. Six responses were excluded who tested positive for Covid-19, and 21 responses were rejected as they were filled incompletely. The mean age of respondents was 27.53 years (S.D 8.188), and there were more females, 52.53% (n=197) than male, 46.67%(175) participants. A Pearson correlation (r) of 0.383 between knowledge and practices of people who use social media as their primary source of information suggests a moderate linear correlation. People who did not use social media as their primary source of information had a stronger linear correlation (r=0.640) between knowledge and practices.Conclusion: According to the study, social media provided people with correct knowledge as well as encouraged efficient practices while also contributing to the spread of false news and malpractices.

Background: Pandemics are challenging for clinical and public health agencies and policymakers because of the scientific and medical uncertainty that accompanies novel viruses like COVID-19 makes an increase of morbidity and mortality prominent. Consequently, there is a need to evaluate the public perception of social distancing, lockdown obligatory, and response satisfactory during the pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional survey used an anonymous online google based questionnaire to collect data from respondents via social media platforms. The online survey was conducted among social media users from 1st to 30th April 2020. A snowball sampling technique was employed to recruit respondents for the survey. A total of 1,131 respondents responded across the country. Results: Nine out of every ten respondents believed that social distancing is an effective measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Also, 8 out of every ten respondents agreed with the lockdown measures. However, just 36.8% think their government is doing enough to stop the outbreak, and only 25% of the respondents were satisfied with the country’s response to the worldwide epidemic. The age of respondents was found to be significantly associated with satisfaction with emergency response during pandemics. Conclusion: It could be concluded that Nigerian public accepted social distancing as an effective way of curbing the spread of COVID-19 and general acceptance on lockdown obligatory; however, more than half of respondents expressed non-satisfactory with government and other agencies responses during the pandemics.

This study aims to reveal social media platforms' transformative power as new public spheres concerning religious discource among Acehnese Muslim students. Using a descriptive quantitative method through online survey with 129 of those students, this study has revealed that social media have contributed providing a new public sphere for young Muslim and have become an essential part of Islamic proselytising (da'wah). In this regard, most young social media users utilised social media to discuss Islamic da'wah as well as to express their thought concerning on shariah enforcement. Therefore this study argues that social media use has a close relationship with increasing religious thoughts and knowledge in realising da'wah.

The purpose of this study is to describe of social media and brand loyalty. In addition, to determine the effect of social media on brand loyalty. this type of research is descriptive and verifikatif, by using online survey method. Sampling technique used is simple random sampling. The sample in this study amounted to 235 people with object of this research is Teh Botol Sosro. Data analysis techniques in this study using a simple linear regression analysis. the results of this study show the social media and brand loyalty categorized high on the continuum line. The result of correlation calculation of social media variables have a significant influence on brand loyalty
