Hemoglobin is a part of erythrocytes that serves to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide in tissues. Hemoglobin levels in the blood may decrease one of which is influenced by exposure to lead from the environment. Places that are at high risk for exposure to air lead one of them is at gas stations (Public Refueling Stations). The purpose of this study is to determine hemoglobin levels in kedungrandu gas station officers, Kec. Patikraja, Banyumas. This type of research is a non-experimental observational study. The method of measuring hemoglobin levels using strip test in the form of POCT (Point Care of Testing) tool. This method uses capillary blood samples from 20 respondents with criteria of male sex and aged 21-60 years. The result of this study was as many as 6 people (30%) of the total respondents had low hemoglobin levels, while 14 people (70%) have normal hemoglobin levels. The average hemoglobin level in the blood sample of kedungrandu gas station officers, Kec. Patikraja, Banyumas is 14.41 mg/dl or normal.

Abstract Background Both capillary and venous blood samples have been interchangeably used for the diagnosis of malaria in Ethiopia. However, Plasmodium parasites are thought to be more concentrated in capillary than in venous blood. Hence, selecting a sample source where parasites are more concentrated is indispensable approach in order to maximize the accuracy of blood film microscopy. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare the detection rate and the parasitemia level of Plasmodium species from conventional capillary and venous blood films, and buffy coat preparations. Methods A facility based cross-sectional study was conducted from Feburary to March 2020 among 210 febrile patients attending Hamusite health center, northwest Ethiopia. Capillary and venous blood samples were collected and buffy coat was prepared from each sample. Thin and thick blood films were prepared, stained, and examined microscopically following standard protocol. Data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences Software version 20 and Med-Calc software version 19.3. Results Capillary blood buffy coat (61/210, 29.0%) had significantly higher detection rate as compared to capillary (48/210, 22.9%) and venous (42/210, 20.0%) blood films (p < 0.001). However, no significant difference was observed between capillary and venous blood films (p = 0.070) in detecting Plasmodium species. The highest and the lowest mean asexual stage parasite counts were found in capillary blood buffy coat (4692.88) and venous blood (631.43) films, respectively showing significant variations (p < 0.001). Mean gametocyte count was also highest in capillary blood buffy coat (3958.44). As compared to capillary blood buffy coat, the sensitivity of venous blood buffy coat, capillary blood film and venous blood film were 73.8, 78.7, 68.9%, respectively. Conclusion Capillary blood buffy coat samples showed the highest sensitivity in detecting and quantitating malaria parasites that its use should be promoted in clinical settings. However, conventional capillary and venous blood films could be used interchangeably.

The purpose of this study is to compare whether or not there is a difference between venous and capillary blood samples in blood glucose measurements and investigate the effects of different aseptic methods used in skin cleaning before collecting blood samples on measurement results. This quasi-experimental study was conducted with 109 patients. The capillary first and second blood drop values taken from the patients after fasting and at 2 hours following 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and capillary and venous blood glucose values were compared. There was no significant difference between the median venous blood glucose value and the capillary second blood drop value taken after wiping the finger with alcohol. There was no significant difference between the first and second blood drop values of capillary blood glucose 2 hours after OGTT.

Mobile fuel delivery (MFD) uses a fueling truck to fill up personal and commercial fleet vehicles while they are parked overnight. This study used a sample data set provided by a San Francisco Bay Area company to explore the potential impacts on vehicle miles traveled (VMT), carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and traffic congestion. An analysis of vehicle travel associated with gas station trips was conducted to establish a basis for comparison. Future scenarios comparing the potential impacts of scaled-up MFD services in 2030 were also developed. The study concluded that MFD services compared favorably to gas stations in relation to environmental and traffic benefits in the longer term, even though personal fueling trips tended to generate low VMT. Benefits stemmed from efficiencies achieved by fueling multiple vehicles per delivery trip, replacing car share vehicle fueling trips, and removing trips from the network during peak hours. This analysis estimated that total annual CO2 emissions associated with fuel delivery operations in the Bay Area were 76 metric tons, which is less than a typical gas station with 97 metric tons. Under assumptions of declining demand for gasoline and significantly fewer gas stations, and with highly efficient optimized operations, mobile delivery could gain up to 5% market share for gas and not add additional VMT over the business as usual scenario.

The ‘Dextrostix’-reflectance meter system for blood glucose analysis has been evaluated using a blood glucose reference method. A high degree of concordance between the two methods was obtained when analyses were performed by skilled laboratory staff on venous blood samples containing fluoride, with a 75 s contact time. Skilled laboratory staff performed significantly better than unskilled staff. Capillary blood glucose concentrations correlated poorly with concentrations in venous blood samples taken at the same time as the capillary blood.

Abstract Objectives The accuracy of point-of-care blood glucometers in the detection and evaluation of neonatal hypoglycemia is a concern. This study compared the performance of three i-SENS glucometers with that of the YSI 2300 STAT Plus Analyzer, which was used as a reference. Methods The leftover neonatal capillary blood samples of 319 patients were used in this study. The evaluation process and accuracy performance criteria were based on the International Organization for Standardization 15197:2013 guidelines. The evaluation involved three i-SENS glucometers (BAROzen H Expert plus, CareSens PRO, and CareSens H Beat) and the ACCU-CHEK® Inform II glucometer. Results The accuracy evaluation yielded acceptable results as follows: a) 100 and 100% for BAROzen H Expert plus; 99.8 and 100% for CareSens PRO; 98.7%, and 97.2% for CareSens H Beat glucometers were within the range of ±0.8 mmol/L (15 mg/dL) and ±15% of the average reference values at glucose concentrations <5.55 mmol/L (100 mg/dL) and ≥5.55 mmol/L (100 mg/dL), respectively, and b) all estimated glucose values (100%) were within the zones A and B of Consensus Error Grid for all three i-SENS glucometers. There was good correlation between the glucose values estimated by the glucometers and the reference values (R>0.990). Conclusions This study demonstrated that i-SENS glucometers exhibit acceptable performance and can be used as effective point-of-care devices in neonates.

IMPROVEMENT OF HEMOGLOBIN (Hb) LEVELS IN PREGNANT WOMEN WITH ANEMIA WITH THE CONSUMPTION OF JAMBU SEEDS (PSIDIUM GUAJAVA. L) ABSTRACT Background Anemia in pregnancy is a national problem because it reflects the socio-economic condition of the community and its influence is very large on the quality of human resources. The incidence of anemia in pregnant women 2018 in Pesisir Barat Regency is 29.9%. The incidence of anemia in pregnant women at Krui Health Center is 67.5%. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of giving guava juice (Psidium Guajava. L) to the increase of hemoglobin (Hb) levels in pregnant women with anemia in Krui health center in 2019.Methods Quantitative Research Type, the research design is a quasi-experimental method with a Non-equivalent Control Group Design approach. The population in this study were as many as 60 second trimester pregnant women and third trimester who had anemia, a sample of 30 pregnant women. 15 people were given treatment with guava fruit juice and Fe tablets, and 15 people were given treatment with Fe tablets, with inclusion criteria Willing to be respondents, Willing to consume guava juice, Pregnant women with mild and moderate anemia with hemoglobin levels (Hb 7.9 - 10 g / dl). With purposive sampling sampling technique. Analyze data with T-test (univariat and bivariat).The results showed an average hemoglobin level before consumption of guava juice and Fe tablets of 9.72 gr / dl, the average hemoglobin level after consumption of guava juice and Fe tablets was 11.13 gr / dl, the average hemoglobin level before consumption of Fe tablets of 9.80 gr / dl, the average hemoglobin level after consumption of FE tablets was 10.60 gr / dl. Conclusion It was known that there was an effect of giving guava juice (Psidium Guajava. L) to Hb levels in pregnant women with anemia in Krui Public Health Center, West Coast District in 2019. The results of the t test were p value 0,000 <α (0.05).Suggestion  It is recommended for health workers, especially midwives, to encourage pregnant women to consume guava juice as a companion to Fe because it can raise hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. Keywords              : Guava Juice, Tablets Fe, Hemoglobin Level ABSTRAK Latar Belakang Anemia pada kehamilan merupakan masalah nasional karena mencerminkan keadaan sosial ekonomi masyarakat dan pengaruhnya sangat besar terhadap kualitas sumber daya manusia. Angka kejadian anemia pada ibu hamil tahun 2018 di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat adalah sebesar 29,9%. Angka kejadian anemia pada ibu hamil di Puskesmas Krui sebesar 67,5%.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah diketahui Pengaruh Pemberian Jus Jambu Biji (Psidium Guajava. L) Terhadap Peningkatan Kadar Hemoglobin (Hb) pada Ibu Hamil dengan Anemia di Puskesmas Krui Tahun 2019.Metode Jenis Penelitian Kuantitatif, rancangan penelitian metode quasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan Non-equivalent Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 60 orang ibu hamil trimester II dan trimester III yang mengalami anemia, Sampel sebanyak 30 ibu hamil. 15 orang diberikan perlakuan dengan jus jambu biji dan tablet Fe, dan 15 orang diberikan perlakun dengan tablet Fe, dengan kriteria inklusi Bersedia menjadi responden, Bersedia mengkonsumsi jus jambu biji, Ibu hamil dengan anemia ringan dan sedang dengan kadar hemoglobin (Hb 7,9 – 10 g/dl). Dengan teknik sampling purposive sampling. Analisa data dengan uji T-test (univariat dan bivariat).Hasil penelitian menunjukan rata-rata kadar hemoglobin sebelum konsumsi jus jambu biji dan tablet Fe sebesar 9,72 gr/dl, rata-rata kadar hemoglobin setelah konsumsi jus jambu biji dan tablet Fe sebesar 11,13 gr/dl, rata-rata kadar hemoglobin sebelum konsumsi tablet Fe sebesar 9,80 gr/dl, rata-rata kadar hemoglobin setelah konsumsi tablet Fe sebesar 10,60 gr/dl.Kesimpulan Diketahui Ada Pengaruh Pemberian Jus Jambu Biji (Psidium Guajava. L) Terhadap Kadar Hb pada Ibu Hamil dengan Anemia di Puskesmas Krui Kabupaten Pesisir Barat Tahun 2019. Hasil uji t didapat p value 0,000 < α (0,05).Saran bagi tenaga kesehatan khususnya bidan agar menganjurkan kepada ibu hamil untuk mengkonsumsi jus jambu biji sebagai pendamping Fe karena dapat menaikkan kadar hemoglobin pada ibu hamil. Kata Kunci            : Jus Jambu Biji, Tablet Fe, Kadar hemoglobin

The concentration of free erythrocyte porphyrins (FEP) and of hemoglobin can be measured on blood samples spotted on filter paper. The FEP/hemoglobin ratio in iron deficiency increases exponentially with a decrease of both transferrin saturation and hemoglobin level. The FEP/hemoglobin is an indicator of impaired heme synthesis. In small children an elevation of the FEP/hemoglobin ratio is a better indicator of iron-deficiency anemia than low transferrin saturation. The FEP/hemoglobin ratio is normal in thalassemia trait and renal anemia but it may be elevated in sickle-cell anemia. Measurement of FEP and hemoglobin on filter paper provides a useful diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of iron deficiency, of anemia, and (in populations at risk) of lead intoxication.

The patient was a 64-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus, thrombophlebitis of the lower legs, cerebral infarction with left hemiparesis, and colostomy after perforation of the sigmoid colon. On the morning of her presentation, the patient felt epigastric abnormality. Thereafter, hematemesis occurred twice, leading her to call an ambulance in the afternoon. Upon arrival, electrocardiography before securing a venous route and obtaining blood samples revealed ST segment elevation in leads II, III, and aVF. As her vital signs were stable and her hemoglobin level had decreased by just 1.1 g/dl in comparison to the previous day, emergency coronary angiography (CAG) was performed. CAG revealed complete occlusion at section #4. She underwent right coronary angioplasty with stent placement. The patient’s course after angioplasty was uneventful. On the 15th hospital day, esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed esophageal erosion and superficial gastritis. She was discharged on foot the following day. When physicians treat patients with hematemesis, electrocardiography and the measurement of troponin are essential before esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
