Athletics at National Collegiate Athletic Association schools have played a major role in the educational experience of students, alumni, and surrounding communities since they were first introduced to college campuses. This study examined the relationship between athletic team fiscal expenditures on athletic and academic success for NCAA Division II football and men's and women's basketball programs. There was a void in the literature as it relates to the relationship of athletic spending on specific sports at the Division II level. The quantitative study used correlation and regression analyses. This study found a positive statistically significant relationship between athletic spending and overall win percentage in all three sports. Only women's basketball demonstrated a statistically significant relationship between Academic Success Rates scores and total team expenses. Recommendations for future research include utilizing total athletic department expenses to evaluate the relationship with academic success of all sports at an institution. As sport-specific expenses may not be used to support academic services within the sport, total athletic department expenses may better represent a university's commitment to its student-athletes' academic success.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between Academic Progress Rate and team, athletic department, and institutional characteristics. The conceptual foundation for this study was the Model for Team Academic Progress Rate, which was adapted from the Comeaux and Harrison (2011) Model for College Student Athlete Academic Success. Multiple data sources were compiled to create the athletic team data set. The dependent variables of Academic Progress Rate, team eligibility rate, and team retention rate were correlated against a set of 20 independent variables at the athletic team, athletic department, and institutional levels. The analytic sample consisted of 12,616 NCAA Division I, Football Bowl Subdivision athletic teams participating in 121 public institutions between the academic years of 2005-2006 and 2011-2012. Pearson correlations and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted at each level of inquiry and for each dependent variable. The results of the regressions revealed that gender, sport profile, and athletic aid spending, per student-athlete, had relatively weak relationships with APR and the fully specified model accounted for 14.3% of the variance observed in APR scores. The results of the study could inform future research about the importance of team level characteristics in predicting APR and the variations between the eligibility and retention aspects of APR. This study could also inform academic support programming and policy making for student-athletes and aid in understanding the conditions that lead to greater academic success.

This research aims at investigating the relationship between higher educational quality and students' satisfaction who are studying in the professional programs (MBA, DBA, and Diploma) offered by Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University. The research depends on stratified random sample of 235 students. The response rate is 83.9% and data is analyzed by different statistical methods. The research ends with the following results: (a) there is positive, strong, and significant relationship between higher educational quality and students' satisfaction level; (b) there is positive, strong and significant relationship between functional quality, technical quality, college image and the overall higher educational quality; (c) there is positive, strong, and significant relationship between functional quality, technical quality, college image and students' satisfaction level; (d) technical quality is the strongest determinant of the educational quality followed by college image and finally functional quality. Finally, the research ends with some suggested points for future research.

End-stage osteoarthritis is commonly treated with joint replacement. Despite high clinical success rates, up to 28% of patients are dissatisfied with the outcome. This best-evidence synthesis aimed to review studies with different forms of study design and methodology that examined the relationship between (fulfilment of) outcome expectations of hip and knee patients and satisfaction with outcome. A literature search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, PsycInfo, Cochrane, and Google Scholar to identify studies conducted up to November 2017. The methodological quality of studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. In this best-evidence synthesis systematic review, the following main results could be seen. In only half of all studies were preoperative expectations associated with level of satisfaction, while in almost all studies (93%), fulfilment of expectations was related to satisfaction. The effect of met expectations did not differ between hip and knee patients or study design. Fulfilment of expectations seems to be consistently associated with patient satisfaction with outcome. Emphasis in future research must be placed on the operationalization and measurement of expectations and satisfaction to determine the (strength of the) influence of these different forms of assessment on the (existence of the) relationship. The increasing popularity of workplace spirituality has been associated with a myriad of benefits it is purported to bring about in the organizations, however not many empirical evidences of its inverse relationship with organizational politics have been reported. A sample of 202 employees from IT and ITES sectors based out of Delhi NCR was studied to not only examine the relationship of workplace spirituality with perceptions of organizational politics in a negative context as is popularly viewed but also look at the concept of positive/constructive politics at play in the organization. Analysis indicates significant relationship with the negative POPS but no relationship found with respect to positive politics. The reasons for these findings, its consequences and implications as well as directions for future research have been discussed.

Suicide has become a debilitating issue. Although it is a preventable condition but failure to understand the thinking pattern could significantly dampen the effort to avert it. Despite being an important issue, there is still a lack of study centralising into the thinking pattern when suicidal thoughts are mooted in. Due to this gap, this study was set to examine the relationship between cognitive distortion and suicidal ideation. Using purposive sampling 414 students whose were seeking career advice were recruited to participate in this study. Results indicated that there was a significant relationship between cognitive distortion and suicidal ideation. Using multiple regression, the finding showed that out of 10 thinking patterns, overgeneralisation contributes the most to the suicidal thoughts. These findings will help professionals to understand better the nature of suicidal ideation and assist them in providing better services and alleviating its symptoms. This study also discussed the limitations and the directions for future research.

Aim/Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the challenges Saudi doctoral students studying in UK universities face with their supervisors, shed light on their experiences, and examine the extent to which these experiences impact their ability to complete their thesis. Furthermore, the aim is to examine the aspects of supervision the students found to be effective during their studies. Background: The overall intention of this article is to provide more information about the experiences and challenges Saudi mathematics students face with their doctoral supervisors in UK universities. Therefore, overcoming these difficulties will enhance the academic success rates of Saudi students, and will help them to complete their studies on time when studying at UK universities. Methodology: This was a multi method project resulting in the collection of both qualitative and quantitative data. It started with a questionnaire, which was administered to 300 Saudi doctoral students, 32 of whom subsequently agreed to be interviewed. The sample was randomly selected from doctoral students who were specializing in curricula and methods of teaching mathematics and other related areas. Contribution: This study added information to the literature on Saudi mathematics students’ experiences and challenges with their doctoral supervisors in UK universities. This also represents the first study to be context on this subject within Saudi Arabia. Findings: There are some positive and negative challenges experienced between doctoral students and their supervisors, which are comprised of four main dimensions: team supervision, the supervisory relationship, the elements of effective supervision in their current supervisors, and supervisors’ written feedback. Additionally, based on their experiences, the students stated the specific elements of supervision that were effective, including general knowledge of the research area and research methods, receiving continued support from the supervisory team, and the establishment of regular and realistic deadlines, friendliness, approachability and flexibility, the provision of detailed feedback on students’ work, joint meetings with both first and second supervisors, constructive criticism, and sufficient interest in their research. Recommendations for Practitioners: The stakeholders in Saudi Arabia should take advantage of the answers given by the participants to help those and future students. Furthermore, this study invites doctoral students to solve the challenges they face with their supervisors immediately, in order to be able to complete their thesis on time. Additionally, it is important that university and departmental administrative bodies consider tracking their study paths to better assist students. Furthermore, universities should be clear regarding the different roles and responsibilities of the students and their supervisors before the candidates commence their studies. Recommendation for Researchers: Further research is needed to explore supervisors’ views and experiences, as well as staff supporting and coordinating doctoral programs who may have a more holistic view of the supervisory process. Impact on Society: The study participants’ experiences of their doctoral studies could be highly beneficial for comprehending the problems that confront them when studying, which will enable better assistance to be provided. Future Research: Future studies could be extended to other areas of the education field. Furthermore, particular measures can be implemented to enhance supervision, which could be associated with satisfaction levels and/or the performance of students.

PurposeGlobalisation has made higher education increasingly multicultural. Although multicultural university students' attitudes and interactions with different cultures affect their academic success as well as entrepreneurial intentions, only a few studies have analysed this topic. Therefore, this study examined the assumption that positive psychological capital (PsyCap) mediates the relationship between attitudes towards multiculturalism and entrepreneurial intentions.Design/methodology/approachA model was proposed and empirically tested 564 university students in Northern Cyprus. Data were analysed using SPSS 23 and AMOS 18 using the PROCESS Macro and Bootstrap methods.FindingsThe results indicated that improving university students' attitudes towards multiculturalism will have a beneficial effect on their entrepreneurial intentions. Moreover, PsyCap is a mediator variable on the relationship between multicultural attitudes and entrepreneurial intentions.Research limitations/implicationsThis study contributes to the literature by theoretically and empirically examining how attitudes towards multiculturalism and PsyCap impact university students' entrepreneurial intentions. Its limitations can be overcome through future research.Practical implicationsThe study's findings are valid in two areas: (1) assisting policymakers, researchers and academics to better understand the critical influence of university students' attitudes towards multiculturalism on their entrepreneurial intentions, particularly since this topic had not been extensively studied; (2) advancing theoretical discussions by examining the positive effects of internal factors such as PsyCap in terms of multicultural attitudes and entrepreneurial intentions.Social implicationsThe study provides empirical evidence that academics and university administrators should pay attention to multicultural attitudes to increase university students' entrepreneurial intentions. Hence, it focused on the relationship between multicultural society, entrepreneurial intentions, and PsyCap.Originality/valueAttitudes towards multiculturalism influence students' entrepreneurial intentions through PsyCap. The context of cultural values and multiculturalism determines the premises of entrepreneurial intentions. This study is unique and innovative as it brings a new focus to academic literature.

The purpose of this paper is to examine Chinese police officers’ attitudes toward the individuals they serve and protect. Using cross-sectional data collected from 271 police officers in a Chinese police university, this paper examines the effects of officers’ perceptions of citizens’ cooperation, compliance with laws, recognition and disrespect. Chinese police officers generally have mixed feelings about citizens. While officers negatively perceived citizens’ levels of cooperation, they believed the Chinese public were law-abiding and recognised the police for their work. Results further revealed a significant relationship between officers’ attitudes and their sense of effectiveness and behaviour. Future research should include more attitudinal dimensions, such as officers’ personality traits, and examine the relationship from a longitudinal perspective. Findings provide insights for Chinese administrators to reform the police with a focus on strengthening citizen–police relationships.

This study aims to determine the relationship of arm muscle strength and leg power with the jump shot ability of the extracurricular women's basketball team. This research is a Non-Experimental study with correlational design.Data collection techniques in this study were tests. The instruments used in this study were push-up tests, vertical jump tests, and ball-to-ring tests with jump shots that were at 5 shot post points with 5x chance to shoot at each post.The results of the analysis showed that: There was a significant relationship between arm muscle strength and jump shoot, significance value 0.001 <0.05, the magnitude of the relationship between arm muscle strength and Jumpshot by 75.3%. (2) There is no significant relationship between leg muscle power and jump shoot in basketball extracurricular women's teams with t count 3.105> t table 2.23, and significance value 0.316 <0.05. (3) There is a significant relationship between arm muscle strength and leg power simultaneously to Jump shoot ability with r = 0.753 and significance = 0.001 with sig F change = 0.004.
