INTRODUCTION: The rapid population growth and fast-paced development of urban texture have given rise to unwise decisions which can be only prevented by strategic management of city neighborhoods based on a vision in accordance with the common values of society. The vision development aims at determining the position a neighborhood strives to reach. In the meantime, disaster-stricken areas have a special position, considering reconstruction as a golden opportunity. The present article aimed to develop a vision for Shiroodi and Fooladi neighborhoods in Sarpol-e Zahab after the 1396 earthquake in Kermanshah province. METHODS: The present applied research was conducted based on a descriptive-analytical design. To this end, situation assessment was firstly performed in both strategic and local domains based on urban systems. For each system, the table of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) was prepared. Moreover, combining different layers, a vulnerability map and an integrated SWOT analysis map were obtained. Finally, based on these maps, field observations, interviews with residents, and expert opinions, a vision statement was presented and the necessary policies were formulated. FINDINGS: Based on the obtained results, the strengths, and opportunities, such as quick access to the main artery and the presence of barren lands, have a resilient state in response to disasters. On the other hand, weaknesses, and threats, such as construction on agricultural lands or the narrow passages, are among the factors that highlight the need to select a vision with a resilient approach to future disasters. CONCLUSION: As evidenced by the research of the study, the first stage of visioning must be based on urban systems, such as land use, movement and access, physical form, and landscape urbanism. In this regard, a vision needs to assess resilience at different physical, environmental, social, and economic levels. Furthermore, this vision should lead to the presentation of some instructions, such as the obtainment of a checkered texture, expansion of green spaces, reduction of enclosures, as well as safety in infrastructure and networks, to increase the resilience of the target neighborhood after the earthquake.

Hand gestures in face-to-face dialogue are symbolic acts, integrated with speech. Little is known about the factors that determine the physical form of these gestures. When the gesture depicts a previous nonsymbolic action, it obviously resembles this action; however, such gestures are not only noticeably different from the original action but, when they occur in a series, are different from each other. This paper presents an experiment with two separate analyses (one quantitative, one qualitative) testing the hypothesis that the immediate communicative function is a determinant of the symbolic form of the gesture. First, we manipulated whether the speaker was describing the previous action to an addressee who had done the same actions and therefore shared common ground or to one who had done different actions and therefore did not share common ground. The common ground gestures were judged to be significantly less complex, precise, or informative than the latter, a finding similar to the effects of common ground on words. In the qualitative analysis, we used the given versus new principle to analyze a series of gestures about the same actions by the same speaker. The speaker emphasized the new information in each gesture by making it larger, clearer, etc. When this information became given, a gesture for the same action became smaller or less precise, which is similar to findings for given versus new information in words. Thus the immediate communicative function (e.g., to convey information that is common ground or that is new) played a major role in determining the physical form of the gestures.

The study and understanding of molecules, once the domain of blackboards and stick-and-ball models, has become more and more exclusively linked to the use of computer-aided visualizations. Our project seeks to return the physical facsimile to the biologists, allowing the use of tactile senses while interacting with and manipulating a physical model, thus aiding educational and research endeavors. To increase the effectiveness of such a tool, the model is constructed such that multiple levels of information are viewable within the single physical form, stressing the interaction between the assorted components within the molecule. We use the term 3-D physical visualizations to refer to the fabricated model, to avoid confusion with the common usage of model as a virtual representation on the computer. To effectively combine multiple components into a smooth manufacturable physical visualization, all components of the model must be in a homogeneous format. Our research sets forth a method for converting triangulated mesh data, as provided by the molecular modeling packages, into spline models. Spline models have the attractive qualities that they are smooth without triangular facets, can be combined using traditional boolean operations (and, or, not), and can be directly fabricated using modern CAD/CAM techniques. Our method divides the polyhedral representation into multiple rectangular grids, then fits interpolatory spline surfaces to the data in each region, while focusing on smoothly stitching the boundaries and corners of the spline surfaces in order to create a near G1 continuous model.

This study examines the business models of four emblematic Digital Disruptive Intermediaries (DDIs), Airbnb, TripAdvisor, Expedia and Booking.com. The sources are constituted mainly by surveys, articles and expert opinions which are the main argumentation sources. The best practices for an ideal business model in tourism industry through the analysis of the DDIs are the findings of the study. The main functions of the DDIs are Cataloguing, Reordering or filtering, Ranking and Recommending, Bundling, Sharing, Intent Casting, Channelling Actors, Pricing and Matching Actors. The originality of the paper derives from the SWOT analysis of the business models of the four well known DDIs. There is no previous analysis which evaluates the business models and discloses the main functions they perform.

This panoramic view shows how are focused today the relationships between Nature and the City by research scholars and practitioners in North America. In the American context of an “endless city”, it develops four key ideas for a better approach to urban ecosystems: urban ecology, sustainability, new regionalism and landscape urbanism. Urban ecology has emerged as an interdisciplinary approach for understanding the “drivers, patterns, processes, and outcomes” associated with urban and urbanizing landscapes. With the leadership of several American cities, as New York City, Chicago, Seattle and Portland, urban greening efforts based on principles of sustainability are developed. The new perspectives on regionalism are evident in different efforts associated with the megaregion/megapolitan concept: a new geographic unit of analysis and a new scale for planning. This new regionalism represents a movement led by architects and planners involving geographers, demographers, and policy makers. Finally, landscape urbanism is a more design-based approach. Instead of viewing nature in the city, we have begun to understand the ecology of cities: the urban systems are ecosystems. As a result, “nature cannot be used as exterior decoration, but rather as integral to the health and resiliency of human settlement”.

Ibuprofen is one of the common NSAIDs having poor water solubility, low dissolution, weak flow properties and reduced compressibility. These downsides of ibuprofen crystal upraise crucial challenges during development of a dosage form. The aim of this present work was to modify the physical form of ibuprofen by changing micromeritic properties. Seven different formulations of ibuprofen agglomerates such as F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4, F-5, F-6 and F-7 were prepared to convert the needle shaped ibuprofen crystals into agglomerates so that the desired micromeritic properties can be achieved. In this study, agglomerates of ibuprofen were prepared by Quasi emulsion solvent diffusion (QESD) method in association with two surfactants (sodium lauryl sulphateand Tween 80) at three different concentrations for each. The micromeritic properties of the prepared agglomerates were evaluated for bulk density, tapped density, Carr’s index, Hausner’s ratio, angle of repose along with the release behavior of agglomerates. From dissolution study, it was observed that the release of drug was directly proportional to the surfactant concentration. Here, it was also revealed that there was no interaction among ibuprofen and other excipients as evident from DSC and FTIR studies.Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Journal 20(1): 90-98, 2017

A Faith Tourism tour package was proposed in one of the prominent cities in the Province of Cavite, Philippines based on Dr. Sampad Kumar Swain’s basic tour package components. Through Focus Group Discussion, document analysis and survey questionnaire, the study determined eight tour operators and their clients’ knowledge of Faith Tourism including its benefits and opportunities, and the skills and attitudes in making a Faith Tourism tour package. SWOT Analysis determined the marketing competitiveness of Tagaytay City through the World Economic Forum’s Tourism and Travel Competitive Index (TTCI) 2017.  The millenial respondents of the survey questionnaire strongly agreed that the proposed faith tourism tour package is competitive and reflects Swain’s basic components. The common knowledge among tour operators regarding Faith Tourism is it is a pilgrimage, while the basic skills and attitude needed in making Faith Tourism itineraries are professionalism, knowledgeability, and patience. SWOT analysis as a tool for self-assessment revealed that Tagaytay City is “strongly” competitive based on the TTCI 2017 components.

The present study was conducted in the state of Maharashtra with an objective to analyze the farmers’ perceptions on Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in the state of Maharashtra. Member farmers were selected as sample respondents for the study. The results of the present study revealed that after association with producer company, there has been an improvement in the yields as stated by 96.66 per cent of the farmers under category I, 82.73 per cent of the farmers in category II and 77.50 per cent of the farmers under category III. It was also observed that there was an improvement in the quality of the produce and a majority of the farmers were happy with the price for their produce received after joining FPCs. It was also interesting to note that the problems faced by the farmers were different in all the three categories of FPCs. However, the common problem faced by the farmers in category II and III was manipulation of quotas and quality specifications by some of the companies. The SWOT analysis revealed that the major strengths identified by the farmers were more or less same in the selected FPCs like provision of inputs and production services, higher yields due to better management, minimizing the prices risk and better bargaining for small holders. The adoption of new production technology was a common weakness and pro-government policy was an important opportunity of all the producer companies as perceived by the farmers. The common threats to the producer companies of all categories include problem of sustaining long term operations, cut throat competition among companies, social and cultural constraints.

The present study provides a comparative analysis of development strategy selection and presents an overview of multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) in strategic management. The main aim of the paper is to use the analytic network process (ANP) as one of MCDA methods for determining the best strategy. Based on expert opinions and analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the authors have identified and evaluated SWOT analysis factors used for the development of a company strategy. To investi-gate the interaction of external and internal environment, the authors have used the ANP that allows obtaining relative measurement of the influence of SWOT elements. The ANP is useful with regard to interdependent relationship between multi-objectives and multi-stakeholders’ environment. The algo-rithm of quantitative evaluation of telecommunication company strategies is also presented in the paper.

The art of gamelan in Javanese culture contains aesthetical, ethical, and historical elements. The aesthetical element or the beauty of gamelan art reflects the common artistic principle dulce et utile which means entertaining and valuable. The creative activities of each artist is distinct. In other words, artists are able to create new modes in an artistic expression. Art does not only enrich psychological well-being but also serves as a media to communicate culture to the society. Gilbert Chesterton stated that the development of science and arts is inseparable. Whereas science studies the generic aspect of a physical form of something, arts deal with a more private matter that is the unique and solitary human. The ombak gong tuning system has become the unique characteristic of the accoustic tuning system of the gong instrument in Javanese gamelan in the current digital music era.
