This article aims to present the results of a study on the learning process of informational competence in the Universidad José Vasconcelos, Oaxaca, Mexico. From a qualitative research approach, semi-structured interviews, and requests for drawings were applied, and non-participant observation of six students’ information search practices was carried out. The findings made it possible to identify quantitative and qualitative changes in the declarative, procedural and attitudinal components of the competence, which differentiate three levels of performance: low, medium, and high. The critical element to understand the competence learning process is in its attitudinal component since this determines the amount and type of declarative knowledge, as well as the procedures that the student is willing to deploy in a coordinated way to search, evaluate and use the information to achieve your academic goals.

PurposeThis research aims to contribute to the literature on Lean implementation in healthcare by studying the emotional experiences of the relevant actors related to a Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) in a UK healthcare context. The purpose of this study was to go beyond what people think about Lean and towards an exploration of their subjective, emotional and “feeling” experience and whether that emotional experience influenced Lean implementation.Design/methodology/approachA phenomenological and symbolic interactionist qualitative case study was undertaken. Data related to participants' emotional experience were collected through non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Data were analysed using thematic network analysis.FindingsThis paper provides novel insights into the emotional experience of Lean as experienced through an RPIW. The findings reveal that participation in an RPIW is much more than a technical process. It influences how people feel about themselves, is based on relationships with others, and requires mental, physical and emotional effort. All of these factors influence engagement with, initiation of and sustainability of the RPIW.Research limitations/implicationsA new conceptual framework for the planning and implementation of RPIWs has been developed. However, because of the chosen research approach, the results may lack generalisability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the framework and proposed practice implications.Originality/valueDespite emotions being an integral part of individual and social everyday life, emotional experience has not been studied in relation to Lean. This study is the first to explore emotions in relation to Lean, with implications for practice as to how RPIWs are managed with a new framework for implementation being proposed.

AbstractIllegal wild capture fisheries undermine crustacean (e.g., crabs, lobsters, and swimming crabs) stock and their habitats. In a search for a new approach to the fisheries issues, this paper aims to explain why the illegal fishing for crustacean species still exists in Indonesia. It focuses on analyzing a set of practices in crustacean production and consumption. Banyuwangi (Indonesia) was the case study area of the conducted fieldwork. The method applied semi-structured interviews and participant observation. The design of research enabled the researcher to study daily fishing, purchasing, and processing. These practices determined the exploitation of crustacean species in the sea. This paper shows that the current fishing, purchasing, and processing of crabs, swimming crabs, and lobsters played a vital role in constructing the habit of illegal fishing. When the catch prohibition rules heavily focused on the wild capture fisheries in the sea, the local intermediaries and processors innovated their purchasing and processing to obtain crustacean species incessantly. Such an innovation was in response to the crustacean scarcity problems. (1) In swimming crab mini-plants, processors diversified their processed swimming crab products. The crab product diversification allowed them to process swimming crabs in all sizes. (2) The local intermediaries gave fishermen binding loans. Fishermen paid back the loans by supplying the crustacean species to the loan givers. (3) The existence of processing and purchasing stimulated fishermen to harvest every last crustacean species. Even though such crustacean fishing was illegal, it contributed to the livelihoods of fishermen, local intermediaries, and processors. This paper makes a research contribution to the use of social practice theory in fisheries issues. It gives a novel research approach to the habit of illegal fishing problems.

The quest of beginner teachers becoming experienced teachers remains a major issue within the educational terrain. Induction experience(s) of beginner teachers particularly women in selected community secondary schools in South Africa was the focus of this research. In this research, the problems that women beginner teachers face at some selected schools, as well as the types of induction programmes used to support them, as they grappled with the problems, were explored. A qualitative research approach involving semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation was used in the collection of the requisite data. A sample comprising two community secondary schools and four women beginner teachers were selected to take part in the research. To make meaning of the data which were collected, inductive analysis of the data was conducted. Communities of Practice was used as the theory that underpinned the research findings reported in this paper. Based on the data analysis and the communities of practice theory that served as the framework, the paper among other findings reports that induction programmes used in sampled/selected schools were highly ineffective in supporting the women beginner teachers to overcome the problems revealed. The research contributes to the body of knowledge on the lived experiences of beginner teachers at the beginning of their teaching career and provides recommendations on classroom management and dealing with ill-disciplined learners. Purpose This paper aims to explore the relationship between the contemporary forms of manufacturing rationalization and the reproduction of communities of practice (CoPs) centred on tasks and craft. Building on critical literature highlighting the tensions between CoPs and rationalization, this paper aims to develop a nuanced account of how CoPs are reproduced in the context of rationalization. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative case study of a CoP involved in the production of automotive components was conducted. Following a change in ownership, the company was instructed to rationalize production according to the principles of lean production. Data were collected through participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Findings The CoP of the case study reinterpreted, resisted and redefined the lean production practices according to the established norms and values. In collusion with local management, workers protected the integrity of the community by engaging in hypocritical reporting. While lower-level managers buffered the rationalization pressures, workers would “get the work done” without further interference. Research limitations/implications The critical research approach may be applied to a wide range of cases in which informal or professional work organization collides with change programmes driven by management. Future research is encouraged to investigate more closely how CoPs gain access to formal and informal power by enrolling lower-level managers in their joint enterprise and world view. Practical implications Managers should be aware that attempts to rationalize community-based work forms may lead to dysfunctional patterns of organizational decoupling. Originality/value This study is one of the first to empirically examine the relationship between CoPs and manufacturing rationalization.

PurposeAlthough the role of reflections in entrepreneurship education is undeniable, the research has focused mainly on their advantages and consequences for learning process, whereas their dynamics and interrelations with other mental processes remain unexplored. The purpose of this paper is to better understand how personality and intelligence constructs: cognition, conation, and affection evolve and change along the learning process during entrepreneurship education.Design/methodology/approachTo better understand reflective processes in entrepreneurial learning this paper adopts the tripartite constructs of personality and intelligence. By employing longitudinal explorative research approach and self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm, the authors follow students’ reflections during their two-year learning processes. First, the authors try to identify how the interplay between the cognitive, conative, and affective aspects emerges in students’ reflections. Then, the authors investigate how this interplay evolves during the individual learning process and finally, by looking for similarities in these learning pathways, the authors aim to identify patterns of students’ reflective learning process.FindingsAll constructs are present during the learning process and all are prone to change. The individual constructs alone shed no light on the interplay between different constructs, but rather that the interplay between sub-constructs should be taken into consideration as well. This seems to be particularly true for cognition, as procedural and declarative knowledge have very different profiles. Procedural knowledge emerges together with emotions, motivation, and volition, whereas the profile of declarative knowledge is individual. The unique profile of declarative knowledge in students’ reflections is an important finding as declarative knowledge is regarded as the center of current pedagogic practices.Research limitations/implicationsThe study broadens the understanding of reflective practices in the entrepreneurial learning process and the interplay between affective, cognitive, and conative sub-constructs and reflective practices in entrepreneurship education. The findings clearly indicate the need for further research on the interplay between sub-constructs and students’ reflection profiles. The authors see the study as an attempt to apply an exploratory statistical method for the problem in question.Practical implicationsThe results are able to advise pedagogy. Practical implications concern the need to develop reflective practises in entrepreneurial learning interventions to enhance all three meta-competencies, even though there are so far no irrefutable findings to indicate that some types of reflection may be better than others.Originality/valueThe results of the analysis indicate that it is possible to study the complex and dynamic interplay between sub-constructs of cognitive, conative and affective constructs. Moreover, the research succeeded in identifying both individual variations and general reflection patterns and changes in these during the learning process. This was possible by adopting a longitudinal explorative research approach with SOM analyses.

This study aims to determine the learning process for children learning difficulties in inclusive schools in elementary schools. This research is qualitative research with a case-study approach. The study was conducted at SDN 1 Sangkawana Batukliang District, Central Lombok Regency. Subjects in this study were the Principal, Low - grade teacher Data collection through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. Data analysis was performed using the Spiral Analysis model developed by Creswell. Research Findings that teacher competencies in the service of children with learning difficulties need to be possessed. The teacher is a determinant of the success of the learning process especially for children with learning difficulties who need more guidance in learning. In general, the learning process for children with learning difficulties in inclusive schools is the same as regular schools. The difference is in the provision of learning activities and services that are more remedial. This is done starting from the teacher doing adaptation in designing the Learning Implementation lesson plan by the circumstances of the students

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengentahui tugas pokok Bidang Kaderisasi DPW PKS Jawa Barat, untuk mengetahui proses tahapan dan sistem model kaderisasi PKS yang marhalah (berjenjang), untuk mengetahui dan mendapatkan data dalam memebentuk kader pemimpin Islami Bidang Kaderisasi DPW PKS Jawa Barat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah deskrptif kualitatif dengan tekinik pengeumpulan data berupa wawancara terstrurktur, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi.. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa model kaderisi dalam menciptakan pemimpin Islami melalui tahapan-tahapan pembinaan kader yang marhalah (berjenjang). Yaitu, Pertama, ta’lim proses pembelajaran yang mana bertujuan para kader diberikan kurikulum kaderisiasi partai. Kedua, Tandzhim yang mana setelah pembelajaran diharapkan para kader dapat mengasah dan mengimplementasikan hasil kurikulum kaderisasi. Ketiga, taqwin para kader harus dapat menginternalisasi ajaran Islam dalam partai maupun kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara. This research was conducted to identify the main tasks of the West Java PKS DPW Cadre Field Division, to find out the stages and stages of the PKS cadre model model that is marhalah (tiered), to find out and obtain data in forming the Islamic leaders cadre of the West Java PKW DPW Cadre. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques in the form of structured interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results of this study indicate that the cadre model in creating Islamic leaders through the stages of training cadres who are marhalah (tiered). That is, First, ta'lim the learning process in which the cadres aim to be given a party cadre curriculum. Second, Tandzhim which after learning is expected that the cadres can hone and implement the results of the regeneration curriculum. Third, taqwin of cadres must be able to internalize the teachings of Islam in the party and the life of the nation and state.

This paper discusses the challenges of records management that arise from the use of adapted buildings as records centres in Zimbabwe, despite the advantages of using such buildings. A qualitative research approach was used as well as a case study research design. Data were collected from seven officers of the Gweru Records Centre through semi-structured interviews. Personal observation was used to triangulate findings from interviews. It was found that the use of adapted buildings as records centres was a cheaper and quicker way of establishing records centres throughout the country. However, a number of preservation, security and management challenges cropped up as the conditions of the buildings and the environment of the adapted buildings were not conducive to the proper and professional management of records. This study is important in that it explores the prospects and challenges of using adapted buildings as records centres in Zimbabwe, an area that has not been researched by many authors. This provokes archival authorities and the government to seriously consider establishing purpose-built records and archival centres.

This work is the result of the doctoral thesis entitled Pilgrimage of Bom Jesus da Lapa: Social Reproduction of the Family and Female Gender Identity, specifically the second chapter that talks about women in the Pilgrimage of Bom Jesus da Lapa, emphasizing gender relations, analyzing the location of the pilgrimage as a social reproduction of the patriarchal family and female gender identity. The research scenario is the Bom Jesus da Lapa Pilgrimage, which has been held for 329 years, in that city, located in the West part of Bahia. The research participants are pilgrim women who are in the age group between 50 and 70 years old and have participated, for more than five consecutive years in the Bom Jesus da Lapa Pilgrimage, belonging to five Brazilian states (Bahia, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Goiás) that register a higher frequency of attendance at this religious event. We used bibliographic, qualitative, field and documentary research and data collection as our methodology; we applied participant observation and semi-structured interviews as a technique. We concluded that the Bom Jesus da Lapa Pilgrimage is a location for family social reproduction and the female gender identity, observing a contrast in the resignification of the role and in the profile of the pilgrim women from Bom Jesus da Lapa, alternating between permanence and the transformation of gender identity coming from patriarchy.

The paper concerns with investigating classroom interaction especially the classroom language used by teacher and students in teaching learning process in one Junior High School in Indramayu. Teacher’s talk signals the classroom language that is used by the teacher in the classroom throughout the class periods. Meanwhile, students’ talk signal classroom language that is used by the students. The study employs qualitative interaction analysis method involving fifty nine students and two teachers in two different classrooms. The data are gathered through non-participant observation and video recording. Classroom observations were conducted to gain the data concerning classroom interaction in teaching learning process. The data collecting was separated into twelve categories and analyzed using Flint (Foreign Language Interaction analysis) system adopted from Moscowitz that is widely used to investigate classroom interaction. The findings of this study showed that there are various verbal interactions used in classroom interaction. The data showed that the use of classroom language motivate students to speak and encourage the students to share their idea. But the data also showed that there are many obstacles in using classroom language. So it needs more effort from teachers and students to make classroom language familiar in the classroom.
