Objectives. The objective of this study is to assess the state of oral health, from the perspective of the number of teeth present, according to the body mass index as a representative element of health. Materials and methods. This study consists of 180 patients from a private dental practice. All 180 patient records were reviewed for an assessment of the number of teeth present and the body mass index at menopausal age. The cohort of patients was divided into two groups, a group of women aged 40 to 54.9 years and the second group, which included women aged 55 and over. The 2 groups were divided based on premenopausal (group I) and postmenopausal (group II) age. Results. The average number of present teeth (based on radiographs) for the entire population of 180 patients is 22.02 teeth. In group I, for the 109 women in the premenopausal group, the average number of teeth is 23.94. The total number of teeth for the 71 women in the postmenopausal group is 19.07. The average BMI for the entire group of patients is 27.24 kg/m2, with a lower value in group I, 26.25 kg/m2, compared to group II, 28.78 kg/m2. Discussions. The average number of teeth in the premenopausal group is higher than in the postmenopausal group. The average body mass index places the whole series of patients in the overweight category. Conclusions. This study shows that the relationship between BMI and the number of lost teeth is positive and proportional, BMI increases with increasing number of teeth lost at premenopausal age.

To test the null hypothesis that limb dominance (laterality) and side of complaint are not associated in a diverse population, nearly 400 patients (40% male, 60% female) of varying age and body size from three South Florida podiatric medical teaching facilities were surveyed in 1995-1996. Radiographs of feet were available for 15% of the patients, and the metatarsus adductus angle was measured on each x-ray. The typical patient was a women (median age, 49 years) of average body weight and average body-mass index. No statistical association was found between laterality and side of complaint in the broader sample, although a significant association did appear in the subsample of patients with bilateral x-rays. The prevalence of metatarsus adductus deformity (metatarsus adductus angle > 15 degrees) among patients with x-rays was 62%. No sex-specific, age-specific, or body size-specific associations were found between handedness and metatarsus adductus deformity.

Recent research shows that the number of diseases associated with obesity has been increasing. In obese persons, association with functional constipation is noted in 24.0% of cases, and obesity is recorded in 60.0% of patients with functional constipation. Among the possible mechanisms for the development of such a combination are changes in serotonin level in the blood, although the existing data are ambiguous and sometimes controversial. The objective of the study is to investigate the changes in serotonin level in the blood of obese patients in combination with constipation and its relationship with the lipid profile of the blood.Materials and methods. 63 patients with obesity in combination with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBSc), 24 patients with normal body mass index and 10 practically healthy people were examined. 25 patients with obesity and constipation had a body mass index of 32.8±0.24kg/m2, 28 patients – 37.8±kg/m2, and 10 patients – 42.6±0.5kg/m2. In patients with irritable bowel syndrome without obesity, the body mass index was 21.7±0.4kg/m2. The blood serotonin level and lipid profile of the blood was determined in all patients.Results. It was deermined that in case of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, serotonin level in the blood was reduced. In obesity with IBSc, the concentration of serotonin, on the contrary, was elevated. All patients with IBSc and obesity were marked an elevated level of total cholesterol and triglycerides. A direct correlation between high levels of triglycerides and serotonin concentration in serum of such comorbid patients was detected. The increase in the degree of obesity in the presence of IBSc was accompanied by a decrease in the concentration of cholesterol of high density lipoprotein. Patients with IBSc without excessive body weight had no such deviations.Conclusions. With an increase in the degree of obesity, serotonin level in the blood increases and the lipid blood spectrum worsens.

ABSTRACTBackground: Anemia is a condition characterized by low levels of hemoglobin (Hb) from normal limits. Anemia is still a public health problem. Data states that the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia in 2013 was 21.7%, with the number of sufferers known to be higher in women than men. The prevalence of anemia in the age range 15 to 24 years was 18.4%. Nutritional status shows the balance of nutrients due to the consumption, absorption, and use of nutrients that come from food in the body. A person's nutritional status can be said to be deficient if the body lacks intake of one or more essential nutrients for the body. One of the indicators for assessing a person's nutritional status is the Body Mass Index (BMI). Inadequate nutritional status will affect the nutritional status of iron in a person' s body so that it can be interpreted that nutritional status is one of the factors of anemia. Consuming foods with good nutritional value, especially foods that contain high iron will also affect the nutritional status of these adolescents so that the risk of suffering from anemia will decrease. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between body mass index and anemia among young women in Indonesia. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study. The data used are secondary data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 5. The population of this study was all Indonesians who participated in IFLS 5. The sample used in this study amounted to 3,525 respondents. IInclusion criteria of this study included female, aged 10-18 years, unmarried, having complete data regarding body weight, height and hemoglobin measurement results. If data related to the measurement results of hemoglobin, body weight, height are incomplete, they will be excluded. The statistical test was used is a chi-square test. Results: There was a relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and anemia among young women in Indonesia (p = 0.034 <0.05).Based on the odd ratio analysis using the normal Body Mass Index (BMI) group as a comparison, it is known that young women with underweight BMI categories have a 1.198 greater risk of experiencing anemia than girls with normal BMI categories. Conclusion: There is a relationship between BMI and anemia in adolescent girls. It is important for young women to always pay attention to daily iron intake by eating foods that are rich in iron or taking blood-booster tablets (TTD) to avoid anemia.

Purpose. To determine the risk of macrosomia in pregnant women as a function of body weight.Material and Methods. The study included 754 patients. All patients were divided into three groups. Group 1 included 262 obese patients with an average body mass index (BMI) of 33.1 (31.4; 35.9) kg/m2, aged 30 (27; 34) years. Group 2 comprised 260 overweight patients with an average body mass index of 27.5 (26.4; 28.7) kg/m2, aged 29 (25; 33) years. Group 3 (control) included 232 patients with normal body weight, BMI of 22.6 (21.0; 23.8) kg/m2, aged 28 (25; 31.5) years. Anthropometric data were assessed in all patients with the performance of general clinical and laboratory examinations.Results. Based on the results of logistic regression analysis for continuous variables, a prognostic model for the birth of a large fetus with a probability of up to 70.3% was constructed.
