Professor Coutu is to be commended for synthesizing in a brief paper a great many insights bearing on the management of teaching, research and extension in the next decade. As a discussant, I feel much as a blind man trying to describe the Taj Mahal—I can only reach so high. The future is as yet unknown and any predictions are at best pretty wild guesses. But there are insights gleaned from the past that can guide us in anticipating the future. In developing his anticipations, Professor Coutu drew upon several important sources of information, including his personal observations on the status of the university, his recent research on organizational structures used by the University of North Carolina system to manage research, and the Carnegie Commission report on higher education.

We set out to identify the service portfolio of the University Libraries and their modifications in the face of the complexity caused by the COVID19 pandemic, in order to recognize their different communication and management methodologies within the community of users in isolation contexts, allowing us to evaluate the processes of innovation and change in the event of the pandemic. We carried out a survey of documentary information through the websites of the Libraries and the organizations that make up the Librarian joint, in order to evaluate and compare their responses to the crisis at national level (Argentina), and peers in Latin America. . Then a direct information collection instrument was applied to the set of 326 Libraries belonging to the 131 Argentine Universities. Finally, we arrived at conclusions that allow us to weigh the identity of the University Libraries in Post-COVID19 Higher Education.

This article is a case study of a level five experiential learning module that I designed and taught at the University of Chester in the summer term of 2018 in collaboration with the city’s innovative new arts hub, Storyhouse. As a case study, it will demonstrate how ‘compassion’ can be placed at the heart of module design within Higher Education Arts and Humanities teaching, as well as how compassionate practice can emerge organically from innovation.

PurposeThis paper examines the correlation between university discipline and industrial structure in the context of the integration and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (hereinafter the Greater Bay Area). It aims to determine the industrial structure deviation, and further identify human resource shortages and complementarity through the lens of the university discipline layout in the three regions of the Greater Bay Area, namely, the nine mainland Guangdong cities in the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong, and Macau.Design/methodology/approachThe paper takes a quantitative Pearson correlation approach to determine the magnitude and strength of the relationship between regional university discipline and industrial structure in the Greater Bay Area, using predictor variables of percentage of compositions of GDP by sector to manifest the industrial structure and criterion variables of percentage of compositions of university enrollments by an academic program to represent the university discipline layout.FindingsThe most significant empirical result suggests that industrial structure deviation exists in the secondary industries of both Guangdong and Hong Kong. This indicates the complementarity between regions of the Greater Bay Area: the number of science and engineering talents graduating from the universities in Hong Kong exceeds the demands of Hong Kong’s local needs, while the science and engineering talents cultivated by universities in Guangdong cannot satisfy the needs of its secondary industries. However, the cities of Guangdong are not the primary choice of most Hong Kong graduates (Zhaopin, 2019).Originality/valueThere have been previous empirical studies dealing with the correlation between Chinese higher education discipline layout and industrial structure at the national level. There have been more case analyses at the provincial level, and some studies have used a comparative lens to find implications for the Chinese transformation. However, few studies have examined the correlation between higher education discipline layout and industrial structure in the context of the Greater Bay Area, with its emphasis on regional synergy and the distinction of “one country, two systems, and three tariff zones.” Based on its empirical findings, this study calls for a talent ecosystem that is beneficial for talent flow, talent sharing, and talent cultivation in a complementary manner.

The study aims at highlighting the instructions - numbered ( 92) 1995 and issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research – confined to the libraries of Iraqi universities, and suggesting new ones. The instructions accord with the developments in the Arabic and International Universities. The analytical descriptive method is used to fulfill the study. By logging into their sites and emailing them, the researcher has observed that the organizational structures, services, and bylaws of many Iraqi, Arabic, and International University libraries have been making use of relevant criteria and studies. The study has suggested new instructions about the organizational structures of the university libraries as to their procedures, services, buildings, supplies, and human and financial resources.

AbstractThis article intends to illustrate the “academization” of ‘Universidad Varacruzana’ as one of the most significant changes taking place in our Institution. A change that has laid the foundations of the transition from a (traditionalist) teacher-centred model to a modern university. To achieve this goal we analyse some essential indicators such as: the total number of full-time professors (FTP) fullfilling the required PROMEP (Program for the Improvement of University Professors) indicators, members of the National Researchers System (SNI) and the National Systems of Creators (SNC). This analysis provides an overview of the institution and shows the gaps per academic areas and per regions or campus (our University has several different campuses along the State of Veracruz), which provides evidence of the process and the rates in which the professors of the University have completed their enabling processes. This article will not only allow for visibilizingthe differentiated evolution of ‘Universidad Veracruzana’, but also contributes to a clear understanding of the position of our university at the national level  with regard to other Higher Education Institutions. The challenges are viewed in two different scenarios: at the interior of the university and in comparison to other institutions.  Recibido: 03 de julio de 2012Aceptado: 05 de noviembre de 2012

Higher education on the corporate model imagines students as consumers, choosing between knowledge products and brands. It imagines itself liberating the university from the dictates of the State/tradition/aristocratic self-replication, and putting it in the hands of its democratic stakeholders. It therefore naturally subscribes to the general management principles and practices of global corporate culture. These principles – transparency, accountability, efficiency – are hard to argue with in principle. But an abstract argument in political economy comes down to earth in the challenges facing the arts and humanities, after the ‘Education Revolution’, to justify their modes of life.

The objective of this article is to study the existing relationship between training and the integration of Sustainable Development (SD) practices in the Moroccan University. The issue at stake is to verify whether the training provided at the level of higher education institutions responds to the various worldwide challenges. In order to respond to the difficulties that impact the higher education model, Moroccan universities are invited to rethink their various approaches so that they can respond to the economic, social, societal and environmental constraints which are constantly evolving. Therefore, these universities must align themselves with the major challenges facing education today[1]. The empirical research method used in this quantitative study is a Likert’s scale based questionnaire. The investigation was carried out on a sample of 134 teachers-researchers of Ibn Tofail University of Kénitra (ITUK) (Morocco). The investigated sample population was surveyed during the time period lasting from February the 1st to May the 31th, 2021. The analysis conducted regarding the results of the ANOVA of the variables reveals that the pedagogical approaches, curriculum and teaching methods are significant except for the teaching activities which display a value of 0.280 higher than the recommended threshold. Consequently, training in higher education can contribute to forging attitudes in the future in line with SD’s requirements by relying on pedagogical approaches. Hence, the University through training should contribute to a sustainable society in order to meet the 17 SD Goals which require that by 2030 all students should have the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to promote sustainable development. The results of this research will contribute to the development of new training curricula that meet the requirements of the various SD objectives. We have focused our research on the ITU Kénitra, we believe that our approach will serve as a basis to develop other cases of Moroccan universities to have an overall vision of training curricula converging towards the practices of SD at the Moroccan national level and for a better contribution in the new 2035 nationwide development model[2].

Over the years, entering a university has been increasingly competitive which have triggered many problems with regard to the higher education sector in Sri Lanka. To overcome this crisis on university entrance, since 1978, the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, the apex body of the University System in Sri Lanka granted permission to the private sector to award degrees as an integral part of the higher education policy.  The objective of this policy was to minimize the foreign currency outflow incurred on overseas education and support the needy students to get admission for higher education at the national level. However, it has been identified that most of these institutes consider enhancements of quantity rather than development of quality which can facilitate academicians' scholarly achievements. It is observed that research and innovation in local private Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) are far behind the country's requirements. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting scholarly practices in private HEIs in Sri Lanka. After reviewing the literature, a conceptual framework and twelve testable hypotheses were developed for this study. This study uses secondary data to identify determinant factors. Accordingly, environmental stimulus, perceived organizational culture stimulus and the psychological stimulus were selected as important determents which can directly as well as indirectly mediate with stress and happiness to enhance the performance of academicians, concerning the scholarly practices in private HEIs.

The conditions are investigated in which Spanish university teachers carry out their teaching and research functions. 655 teachers from the University of Oviedo took part in this study by completing the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire (ASEQ). Of the three dimensions assessed in the ASEQ, Satisfaction received the lowest ratings, Social Climate was rated higher, and Relations with students was rated the highest. These results are similar to those found in two studies carried out in the academic years 1986/87 and 1989/90. Their relevance for higher education is twofold because these data can be used as a complement of those obtained by means of students' opinions, and the crossing of both types of data can facilitate decision making in order to improve the quality of the work (teaching and research) of the university institutions.
