Track and field throwing performance is determined by a number of biomechanical and biological factors which are affected by long-term training. Although much of the research has focused on the role of biomechanical factors on track and field throwing performance, only a small body of scientific literature has focused on the connection of biological factors with competitive track and field throwing performance. The aim of this review was to accumulate and present the current literature connecting the performance in track and field throwing events with specific biological factors, including the anthropometric characteristics, the body composition, the neural activation, the fiber type composition and the muscle architecture characteristics. While there is little published information to develop statistical results, the results from the current review suggest that major biological determinants of track and field throwing performance are the size of lean body mass, the neural activation of the protagonist muscles during the throw and the percentage of type II muscle fiber cross-sectional area. Long-term training may enhance these biological factors and possibly lead to a higher track and field throwing performance. Consequently, coaches and athletes should aim at monitoring and enhancing these parameters in order to increase track and field throwing performance.

We examined the effect of long-term intermittent cold exposure on the fiber type composition of the predominantly type I soleus and the predominantly type IIb extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles of rats. Cold exposure was accomplished by submerging the rats in shoulder-deep water, maintained at 20 +/- 0.5 degrees C, for 1 h/day, 5 days/wk, for < or = 19 wk. The efficacy of the treatment was tested by subjecting both groups to 20 degrees C water for 45 min while rectal temperature (Tre) and O2 consumption (VO2) were measured. The cold-exposed group displayed a 22% smaller reduction in Tre (P < 0.05) at the end of the exposure and 23% greater VO2 (P < 0.05) during the same period. Fiber type composition was determined using routine histochemical methods for myosin-adenosinetriphosphatase. In the soleus muscle of the cold-exposed rats, the number of type IIa fibers increased 156% (P < 0.05) and the number of type I fibers decreased 24% (P < 0.05). Cold exposure had no significant influence on the fiber type composition of the EDL muscle. Cold exposure resulted in an increase in citrate synthase activity of 20 and 22% in the soleus and EDL muscles, respectively (P < 0.05). The present study demonstrates that intermittent cold exposure induces a type I-to-type IIa transformation in the soleus muscle while having no influence on the EDL muscle.

The Relations Of The Intensity Of Noise And Work Term With The Hypertension Case Of The Production Parts Employees In PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk.. Some research results prove that one of the risk factor of stroke is high blood pressure (hypertension). Noise pollution may be associated with the occurrence of hypertention, this is supported by an epidemiological study in the United States. The results of that study mentioned that people exposed to noise tend to have unstable emotions. Emotional instability will lead to a stress. If the stress happened long enough, it will cause the narrowing of blood vessels, so it will make the heart to work harder to pump blood throughout the body. In a long term, blood pressure will rise, and this is called Hypertension. The purpose of this study is to determine the relations between the intensity of noise pollution and work term with the case of hypertension in the production parts employee of PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk. Tanah Laut regency in 2017. The research method used is an analytical survey with cross sectional approach. The population in this study is amounted to 57 people and the sample amounted to 57 people. The results of this study indicates that there is a moderate relationship between the intensity of noise pollution with the incidence of hypertension (p-value = 0,002 < α = 0,05 r = 0,407), and there is a low relationship between work term with the incidence of hypertension (p-value = 0,014 < α = 0,05 r = 0,323). Suggestions given to the company is to provide guidance on the use of PPE, perform routine health checks on employees and rotate the position of work on the employee of production.

Abstract Introduction: Cisgender women (CW) are usually weaker than cisgender men (CM), but when the strength is expressed in relation to the body weight (BW) or fat free mass (FFM) it is observed that the difference disappears what suggests that the innate qualities of the muscle and its motor control mechanisms are similar in CW and CM. The effects of prior exposure to testosterone during puberty on the performance of transgender women (TW) undergoing physical effort are not well known. Objective: To evaluate muscular strength of TW in long-term gender affirming hormone therapy (GAHT). Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 8 TW (average age of 34.0 yo, SD ±4.8), 8 CM and 8 CW matched by age and body mass index (BMI). All TW were non-gonadectomized subjects and were in estrogen plus cyproterone acetate therapy (average time of 15.6 years (SD ±8.7) of treatment). Mean total testosterone (ng/dL) levels of TW, CW and CM were 83.5, 20.5 and 480.5 at the time of the study, respectively. Hemoglobin levels of TW, CW and CM were 14,2 (range 13,5-14,9), 14,35 (range 12,8-14,7) and 15,35 (range 14,0-18,2), respectively BC was assessed by InBody 720. Handgrip strength tests were carried out using the Stoelting hand-held hydraulic dynamometer. Results: The mean maximum strength was 31,9 kg (SD±2.4) in TW, 29.2 kg (SD±4.4) in CW, and 47.5 (SD±8.6) in CM (TWvs.CW p=0.0743; TWxCM p&lt;0.0018; CWvsCM p&lt;0.001). Free fat mass (FFM) of TW was 55.56±6.88 kg, CW 38.98±4,09 kg, CM 64,98±6,29 kg (TWvsCW p&lt;0,0001; TWvsCM p=0,024; CWvsCM p&lt;0,0001). In the evaluation Median Strength/FFM, a mean of 0.54 was observed in the TW group, and 0.76 in the CW and CM (TWvsCW p=0.0157 and TWvsCM p=0.036, CWvsCM p&gt;0.9999). Discussion: The expression of muscle strength/FFM is the same in CM and CW, which suggests that the innate quality of the muscles as well as their motor control is similar in these groups, as showed in many data in the literature. However, the analysis of this ratio in TW showed a significant lower rate than the other groups. Conclusion: After GAHT muscle strength of TW is equal of CW. There is a decrease in the functionality of the muscular unit in producing strength in this group of TWs since strength decreased disproportionately to muscle mass which leads us to believe that there are important functional changes in intracellular oxidation mechanism.

Cancer is an abnormality in the body organs, for instance the abnormal cells grow very quickly, and consequentlydisrupt the performance of normal cells. An unhealthy meal pattern can cause cancer and stress and in long term it can cause thedecrease of immunity, as the result someone with low immunity is at risk to get sick easily.The purpose of the research was toidentify the correlation between diet  and the type of cancer at the chemotherapy rooms in General Hospital Abdul Wahab Sjahranie.This study employed quantitative research design with cross sectional approach. The number of the population in this research was 183 respondents and 125 samples were selected to participate with purposive random sampling technique. The instruments of meal pattern questionnaire  is used to collect the data and Chi-Square test was utilized to analyse the statistics test.The finding from the correlation between the variable of meal pattern and the type of cancer showed significant result pvalue = 0.003 a<0.05. This means that there was significant correlation between diet and the type of cancer. This result indicate that  is significant influence  between meal pattern with the type of cancer

Discomfort due to riding a motorcycle is an issue that need to be addressed as it has long-term effects of musculoskeletal disorders on motorcyclists especially among occupational motorcyclist. Thus, this study was conducted to analyse the rating of muscle discomfort and correlation with the risk factors among traffic police riders. A cross-sectional study was carried out among 137 male traffic police riders (high-powered motorcycle) with the age between 20 to 39 years old. The 100-mm visual analogue scale questionnaire included ratings of perceived discomfort scales for 20 specific body regions was used in the study. The results indicate that the lower back (left and right) were the highest mean of discomfort which were 56.6 mm and 55.9 mm respectively. This followed with right (48.5±36.2 mm) and left (48.4±30.3 mm) upper back, and right hand (47.0±33.0 mm). The mean of overall discomfort ratings for all regions were more than 20 mm.  Besides, there is a strong positive significant correlation between duration of ridings (hours) and overall discomfort ratings (p<0.01, r=0.785) and moderate positive correlation between year of traffic police motorcycle riding experience and overall discomfort ratings (p<0.01, r=0.410). As a conclusion, cumulative riding hours, riding experience and no support of the back area of the body in motorcycle seat, are the most concern in this study as this are the contributing factors to the muscle discomfort among traffic police riders while riding high-powered motorcycle. Thus, this study suggested an additional feature is needed in current motorcycle design in order to enhance comforts of traffic police riders. Also, it will improve the condition of traffic police riders’ discomfort and indirectly also improve their work and health performance as well as productivity.

The impact of a targeted disruption of the Igf1 gene, encoding the insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), on diaphragm (DIA) cellularity was studied in 2-mo-old homozygous mutant [IGF-I(−/−)] mice and their wild-type [WT; i.e., IGF-I(+/+)] littermates. DIA fiber types were classified histochemically. DIA fiber cross-sectional areas (CSA) were determined from digitized muscle sections, and fiber succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) activity was determined histochemically using a microdensitometric procedure. An acidic ATPase reaction was used to visualize capillaries. Myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoforms were identified by SDS-PAGE, and their proportions were determined by scanning densitometry. The body weight of IGF-I(−/−) animals was 32% that of WT littermates. DIA fiber type proportions were unchanged between the groups. The CSAs of types I, IIa, and IIx DIA fibers of IGF-I(−/−) mutants were 63, 68, and 65%, respectively, those of WT animals ( P < 0.001). The DIA thickness and the number of fibers spanning its entire thickness were reduced by 36 and 25%, respectively, in IGF-I(−/−) mice ( P < 0.001). SDH activity was significantly increased in all three types of DIA fibers of IGF-I(−/−) mutants ( P< 0.05). The number of capillaries per fiber was reduced ∼30% in IGF-I(−/−) animals, whereas the capillary density was preserved. The proportions of MyHC isoforms were similar between the groups. Muscle hypoplasia likely reflects the importance of IGF-I on cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis (alone or in combination) during development, although reduced cell size highlights the importance of IGF-I on rate and/or maintenance of DIA fiber growth in the postnatal state. Reduced capillarity may result from both direct and indirect influences on angiogenesis. Improved oxidative capacity likely reflects DIA compensatory mechanisms in IGF-I(−/−) mutants.

The aim of the study was to evaluate power performance and muscle morphology adaptations in response to 5 weeks of fast-eccentric squat training (FEST) performed twice per week, with three different training volumes. Twenty-five moderately trained females were assigned into three groups performing eight repetitions of FEST of either four sets (4 × 8 group; N = 9), 6 sets (6 × 8 group; N = 8) or eight sets (8 × 8 group, N = 8). Before and after the intervention, countermovement jumping height (CMJh) and power (CMJp), half squat maximal strength (1-RM), quadriceps cross-sectional area (QCSA) and vastus lateralis (VL) architecture and fiber type composition were evaluated. Significant increases (p < 0.05) were found for all groups, with no differences among them in 1-RM (4 × 8: 14.8 ± 8.2%, 6 × 8: 13.1 ± 9.2% and 8 × 8: 21.6 ± 7.0%), CMJh (4 × 8: 12.5 ± 8.5%, 6 × 8: 11.3 ± 9.3% and 8 × 8: 7.0 ± 6.2%), CMJp (4 × 8: 9.1 ± 6.0%, 6 × 8: 7.1 ± 5.2% and 8 × 8: 5.0 ± 3.9%) and QCSA (4 × 8: 7.7 ± 4.7%, 6 × 8: 9.0 ± 6.8% and 8 × 8: 8.2 ± 6.5%). Muscle fiber type distribution remained unaltered after training in all groups. VL fascicle length increased and fascicle angle decreased only in 6 × 8 and 8 × 8 groups. In conclusion, four sets of eight fast-eccentric squats/week increase lower body power and strength performance and maintain type IIX muscle fibers after 5 weeks, at least in moderately trained females.

SUMMARY This study presents data collected over the past 10 years on the muscle fiber type composition of the vastus lateralis muscle of young men and women. Biopsies were taken from the vastus lateralis muscle of 55 women (21.2 ± 2.2 yr) and 95 men (21.5 ± 2.4 yr) who had volunteered to participate in various research projects. Six fiber types (I, IC, IIC, IIA, IIAB, and IIB) were classified using mATPase histochemistry, and cross-sectional area was measured for the major fiber types (I, IIA, and IIB). Myosin heavy chain (MHC) content was determined electrophoretically on all of the samples from the men and on 26 samples from the women. With the exception of fiber Type IC, no significant differences were found between men and women for muscle fiber type distribution. The vastus lateralis muscle of both the men and women contained approximately 41% I, 1% IC, 1% IIC, 31% IIA, 6% IIAB, and 20% IIB. However, the cross-sectional area of all three major fiber types was larger for the men compared to the women. In addition, the Type IIA fibers were the largest for the men, whereas the Type I fibers tended to be the largest for the women. Therefore, gender differences were found with regard to the area occupied by each specific fiber type: IIA>I>IIB for the men and I>IIA>IIB for the women. These data establish normative values for the mATPase-based fiber type distribution and sizes in untrained young men and women.

Behavior consumption of soft drinks are the actions or deeds regarding how often consume soft drinks per week is calculated. Carbonated drinks consumption habits will have a negative impact when it accumulates in the long term. Have been many studies that explain the negative effects of soft drinks, including carcinogenic benzene in soft drinks is very high, high phosphate content of vital minerals in the body that can trigger heart disease (magnesiumdeficiency), osteoporosis (calcium deficiency) and more. Based on the survey results of the sale of soft drinks in the cafeteria, 5 schools with the highest sales level, is SMP N 5 Pekanbaru selling 6-7 boxes per month. This type of research is quantitative with cross sectional design which was held on 16-18 May 2016 in SMP N 5 Pekanbaru. The population of this research is all student grades 7 and 8 SMP N 5 Pekanbaru which amounted to 541 people, with a sample size of 115 people. Data collected technique by stratified random sampling use questionnaire measuring instrument. Univariate data analysis and use your bivariate chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the knowledge obtained value (p value = 0.001 value POR = 2.14), Effect of friends (p value = 0.006 value POR = 3.45), Access (p value = 0.029 value POR = 2.70), And advertisement (p value = 0:01 value POR = 3.20) with the consumption of soft drinks. Suggested to the relevant instance, that is SMP N 5 Pekanbaru to provide education and information to as many students on the impact of consuming soft drinks for health when consumed in the long term and excessive, and form healthy canteen, or supervise the beverage products , to minimize the beverage products are bad for health.
