The method of the base (valley) one-process profile modeling on the basis of the measured two-process profile was developed. The base one-process random profile of the Gaussian ordinate distribution is characterized by the standard deviation of the profile height and the correlation length. The problem of estimation of the correlation length of this one-process profile exists. In the procedure of the correlation length estimation, information about the averaged shape of the autocorrelation functions of many one-process profiles after the same type of machining is required. The correlation length of the base one-process profile can be obtained on the basis of the vertical truncation of the measured two-process profile. The average error of the correlation length estimation was not higher than 7%, while the maximum error was not larger than 14%. This method can be extended to simulate the one-process texture of 3D (areal) surface topography.

Soybean is one of the main crops in the world and drying plays an important role in maintaining the quality of the grains. The present study aimed to evaluate different existing models regarding the ability to predict the effective diffusivity of soybeans, an important parameter in studies of the operation. The slope method was used to determine the effective diffusivity, starting from the second Fick's Law, with negligible shrinkage and external mass transfer resistance. The parameter was analyzed as being dependent on both temperature and moisture content. The correlation proposed by Dotto et al. (2018) was the one with the lowest average error (0.048%) for the consideration of an average effective diffusivity. In order to consider a punctual effective diffusivity, modifications were made to the Dotto model, providing a maximum error of 2.6%.

The turbine blade is a key component in an aeroengine. Currently, measuring the turbine blade radiation temperature always requires obtaining the emissivity of the target surface in advance. However, changes in the emissivity and the reflected ambient radiation cause large errors in measurement results. In this paper, a three-wavelength radiation temperature measurement method was developed, without known emissivity, for reflection correction. Firstly, a three-dimensional dynamic reflection model of the turbine blade was established to describe the ambient radiation of the target blade based on the real surface of the engine turbine blade. Secondly, based on the reflection correction model, a three-wavelength radiation temperature measurement algorithm, independent of surface emissivity, was proposed to improve the measurement accuracy of the turbine blade radiation temperature in the engine. Finally, an experimental platform was built to verify the temperature measurement method. Compared with three conventional colorimetric methods, this method achieved an improved performance on blade temperature measurement, demonstrating a decline in the maximum error from 6.09% to 2.13% and in the average error from 2.82% to 1.20%. The proposed method would benefit the accuracy in the high-temperature measurement of turbine blades.

In this brief report, we present MMPI-2 basic validity and clinical scale data of Latino-descent persons from Puerto Rico ( n = 290), Mexico ( n = 1,920), and the United States ( n = 28). All were administered one of three Spanish translations of the MMPI-2. A review of the mean scores of these respective groups indicates similarities across all scales. Differences among these three groups, with the exception of the Mf scale (which is keyed to sex), were well within the one standard deviation band. More importantly, these findings are promising given the fact that three different translations of the MMPI-2 were applied.

The correlation length of the charge density wave ordering in Rb0.3, MoO, has been studied by x-ray diffraction under electric field applied along the one-dimensional axis. The (10, 0.25, -5.5) satellite reflection has been measured in 3D, using high Q-resolution available at the ESRF. Under electrical field, the satellite reaches two stable positions depending on the temperature. It can switch from one to another as a function of the temperature and the current with very long relaxation times ($\rm 10^{th}$ of minutes). After several cycling with T and E, the satellite reflection is found to shift in the 3 main directions. The width of the satellite is reduced by a factor of two in the k-direction and an increase of the transverse correlation length is observed in the two others: the ordered domains look elongated, reaching until 5000 Å in the direction of the applied field and around 1OOO Å, in the perpendicular directions.

AbstractThis paper discusses the relationship between the chemical composition of basic melts and the temperatures at which olivine, clinopyroxene, and plagioclase begin to crystallize at one atmosphere. Diagrams are given which show the correlation between crystallization temperature and melt composition and which allow some of the temperatures to be estimated. Because the relationship between melt composition and crystallization temperature is virtually linear over short compositional ranges, the data available can be subdivided and examined by linear multivariate statistical techniques. The result is a set of equations which permit the crystallization temperatures to be calculated with an average error of less than 6 °C and a maximum error of 27 °C. These equations have been tested by experimental determination of crystallization temperatures for a range of rocks from the Marquesas Islands.

The use of natural fibres allows reducing environmental impact, due to their natural renewable origin and the lower energy needed for their production and processing. This work presents the mechanical characterization of a newly developed technical textile, with banana fibre treated by enzymes, comparing experimental results with numerical simulation based on the definition of the unit cell at micromechanical level. The experimental test shows that the composite with the fabric of banana fibre presents worse mechanical behaviour than the one with commercial flax fibre. The presence of wool, necessary for producing the yarn, reduces the mechanical properties of the banana textile. The numerical simulation had an acceptable error compared with the experimental results, with a global average error of 9%, showing that the predictive modelling based on the multiscale method is suitable for the design process of this kind of composite.
