Nowadays, the importance of greenway applications in planning studies has increased to meet the increasing environmental problems in cities, the loss of open spaces, and the increasing need for recreation. The purpose of this study is to evaluate within the scope of the greenway about the part of 11 km of the Çankırı railway passing through the city center by considering the planning and design dimension. The research was carried out in four stages: literature review, analysis of natural and cultural landscape characteristics, preparation of a conceptual plan, and design suggestions. The area has a straight aspect, the slope is 0–3%, and it is an alluvial structure. It was determined that there are registered historical buildings, but structural areas are intense. According to plan, a green area and a bicycle path arrangement was proposed at the side of the railway. Also, along the existing road routes, a walking or bicycle path was proposed to provide connection between open green areas in the city. In the design process, appropriate landscape design solutions were developed for the station area, and it was proposed that street area and some intersection points be pedestrianized.

The existence of Green Open Spaces (GOS) in big cities tend to decrease and not evenly distributed. Whereas, the role of GOS is essential for ecological, social, and economic function, also as the city’s aesthetic. Bandung City attempted to meet the needs of GOS by developing many thematic parks, the park which added by unique theme. Thematic parks were built to improve citizen happiness index, but its locations were mostly located in the city center as it is a revitalization of many old city parks. This research is addressed to evaluate the thematic parks provision from spatial equity perspective which seen from the distribution pattern and service range. The distribution pattern analyzed by nearest neighbor analysis of GIS while the service range will be viewed both from normative sight and user. The results showed that the provision of thematic parks in Bandung City only focused on the particular area and had lack of service coverage which indicates spatial injustice. Some areas oversupply and at the same time not serviced at all by thematic parks. None of the thematic parks meets the city scale category. People feel the presence of thematic parks in their neighborhood is very beneficial. Proximity distance is not only the main reason for visiting the park but also influenced by attractiveness and the suitability of the theme with the community’s characteristics.

On selected living spaces that function in contemporary urban cultural landscape Streszczenie Autorzy artykułu opisują wybrane przykłady przestrzeni mieszkalnych ukształtowanych i zrealizowanych w XX i XXI wieku a funkcjonujących do obecnych czasów w krajobrazie miast. On selected living spaces that function in contemporary urban cultural landscape The authors of the article describe selected examples of living spaces shaped and constructed in the 20th and 21st century and functioning to the present day in the city landscape. They try to explain and evaluate references to the building philosophy and design ethics. They pay particular attention to the processes of manipulation and respect for nature and open spaces. It was presented on the examples of the historical interwar housing estates in Łódź Mątwiłł Mirecki and Werkbund in Wrocław and the Zlin garden city by the Bata Company. The Bata Shoe Factory changed the shape of the entire city into a functioning space, with architecture conditioning every aspect of life. The period of post-war urban thought was presented on the model of the Sadów Żoliborskie estate and the innovative idea of the 1970s on the example of the competition for the Ursynów estate in Warsaw. It was based on the idea of a garden city and its presentation in the 1980s by creating green, low open housing estates as part of government commissions. Although these ideas were not realized, the idea, thought and desire remained. The respect for green areas of fundamental importance for the character of the place was presented on the example of the passive house complex in Konstantynów Łódzki or the Aspern estate in Vienna. The importance of respect for landscape values was emphasized, and the relationship between space, architecture and nature was explained. An attempt was made to find the main elements of space, which was of paramount importance for the preservation of values superior to the natural environment and architecture.

Local diversity through site-dependent activities such as tourism and resource-based recreation, as well as resource extraction, may offer opportunities for regional development and restructuration. The small number of open spaces in urban areas is a factor in the considerably high pressure of life in the city center. Therefore, the existence of public open spaces in the city center, especially green open spaces in urban areas, is needed because of its function and role as a place for socialization and recreation as well as an alternative rest area with its fresh air in the midst of hectic activities in the city center. Public open space also serves as a place for people to relieve fatigue after a long hard work at a very low cost. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness and the efficiency of the management of the Environmental Study Tourism Park in the City of Probolinggo. The management of urban forest in the former “red are” idle land for ecological, educational and socio-economic purposes as a manifestation of public green open space in urban areas is developed into an Environmental Study Tourism Park. Cities are organisms that live in a balance of continuity with the structures they possess and the urban open spaces that connect them. For this organism, staying alive and healthy is possible if urban dwellers, who are the users, utilize the spaces in a manner that preserves their integrity and locate each space in mental perception. Research problem/aim; Squares, which are one of the urban open spaces, are the breathing centers of the city that play important roles in maintaining this integrity. This study aims to test the relation of squares and pedestrian movement for each square and for the whole historical city. Method; In the present study examining the squares and their relationships in the historical city center of Konya province, 7 squares that have a semantic relationship resulting from being located on a specific axis with one another were analyzed with respect to pedestrian use and the respective physical characteristics of the squares. The main criteria defined in the study constitute the 3 steps of the method. These were identified as function-diversity, accessibility-form and livability–identity. Analyses were conducted based on the 3 established criteria and the 7 sub-criteria that measure the relationships among these at certain levels. Each analysis constitutes a step of the method and enables to achieve a result by using different measurement techniques. In the context of the analyses and findings, qualitative and quantitative studies such as a questionnaire study, land use, dominant land use, function diversity, global and local accessibility, form and geometry, urban open space and symbolic elements analyses were conducted for each square. Findings, Conclusions; As a result of this study carried out with the aim of reinforcing urban continuity and enhancing the relationship among squares, the primary data for each square were obtained and suggestions were presented for eliminating the deficiencies. With the implementation of these suggestions, the holistic perception of the squares, which are focal points located within the historical city center, will be stronger and these squares will have more enhanced functional and semantic connections with one another. In this way, significant contributions will be made regarding the users’ getting to know the city center, the use of squares for different needs and the protection of the integrity of the historical city center with regard to cultural identity.

<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Monuments play a key role in the formation of a common memory and community consciousness by symbolizing important events or situations in the lives of people and societies and establish diverse dialogues with their surroundings in this context. The monument-art works to be placed in open spaces are important in terms of shaping social life and fulfill functions such as warning and activating society. For this reason, the use of monuments in open spaces is a matter for landscape architects to explore. The aim of the study is to determine the purposes and functions of monuments in urban open spaces. In this context, monuments in the city center of Trabzon are photographed and their usage types are classified. As a result, the monuments in urban open spaces in Trabzon are mostly composed of Atatürk and the persons in the history of the city (Kanuni Sultan Süleyman, Yavuz Sultan Selim, Mimar Sinan Etc.) And secondly the figures and events reflecting the culture of the city (horon/dancing figures, kamancha playing figures, anchovy, Trabzonspor etc.) Finally, it is seen that the expressions (military, martyr, etc.) reflect the national spirit. So in the monuments; it has been determined that the historical, cultural and social characteristics of the city are gaining more importance.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Öz</strong></p><p>Toplum ve bireylerin yaşamında yer alan önemli olayları simgeleyen, ortak toplumsal bilinç ve hafıza oluşturan heykeller çevreleriyle ilişki kurarlar.
