With the rapid development of the digital economy, understanding the relationship between the digital economy and the environment is increasingly important for sustainable development. This study mainly studies the nexus of digital economy development and environmental quality for 217 cities in China from 2003 to 2018. Specifically, this study first evaluates the degree of coupling coordination between the digital economy system and the environmental system. Results show that the coupling coordination degree between the digital economy system and the environmental system shows a fluctuating rise from 2003 to 2018. Furthermore, this study empirically investigates the impact of digital economy development on PM2.5, which represents environmental quality, and results show that digital economy development significantly reduces PM2.5. The above finding is still valid by using the quasi-natural experiment of broadband China for the robustness test. Urbanization, population density, and economic development have caused threshold effects. When the urbanization rate and population density exceed a certain threshold, the digital economy significantly inhibits PM2.5. In contrast, when the per capita GDP exceeds a certain threshold, the digital economy significantly promotes PM2.5. The digital economy mainly affects pollutant emissions through direct and technological effects.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of the Internet, all walks of life are closely connected with the development of the Internet. Differences in the degree of integration between different industries and the Internet make the leading industries of the national economy constantly change, thus promoting the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure. The impact of Internet development on the upgrading of industrial structure is not only that the interconnected technologies and platforms change the traditional economic model, but also that the integration of Internet and industry has a profound impact on the industrial structure.

In China, with the acceleration of urbanization, people pay more attention to the quality of urban environment. Air pollution, vegetation destruction, water waste and pollution, and waste sorting have restricted the sustainable development of urban environment. It is important to evaluate the impact of these environmental concerns as a prerequisite to implement an effective urban environmental sustainability policy. The aim of this paper is to establish a system for evaluating sustainable urban environmental quality in China. We extracted six dimensions and 29 criteria for assessing urban sustainable environment. Then, a fuzzy technique and the best worst method were applied to obtain the weights for the dimensions and criteria. Next, grey possibility values were applied to evaluate the sustainable environmental quality of five cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou in China. A sensitivity analysis was performed to identify how the ranking of these five cities changed when varying the weights of each criterion. The results show that pollution control, the natural environment, and water management are the three most important dimensions for urban environmental quality evaluation. We suggest that controlling pollutant emissions, strengthening food waste management, improving clean production processes, and utilizing heat energy are the effective measures to improve the urban environment and achieve sustainable urban environmental development.

Sustainable economic growth is followed by an improvement in environmental quality. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between economic growth and population density on the environmental quality index (EQI) in Indonesia. In addition, it also aims to determine the impact of economic growth and population density on the environmental quality Index. This study uses a quantitative method with secondary data from 33 provinces in Indonesia from 2010 to 2016. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and panel data regression. The result showed that the correlation between economic growth and population density on the quality of the environment was moderate. It has a significant negative impact on environmental quality.

The process of rapid development in modern cities has led to a significant number of playgrounds being located in confined areas, near roads with heavy vehicle traffic (including tram tracks), next to short-term parking spaces and refuse containers. Particular attention is paid to unauthorised parking which is caused by a lack of designated parking spaces. In addition, in residential areas of modern megacities there is a lot of infill development, which is an additional source of noise and dust. Thus, a significant number of playgrounds are located in areas with excessive anthropogenic load. The materials presented in the article describe the current condition of playgrounds in most big cities of Ukraine. Particular importance is attached to the factors which are connected with vehicle traffic, for example noise pollution, air dustiness and pollutant emissions. At the first stage, a list of factors affecting the environmental safety of children's playgrounds in urbanised areas was compiled and analysed. The next stage involves the development of a questionnaire and the direct assessment of the influencing factors by the experts involved. The article considers the factors that are rarely considered in the study of the impact of individual anthropogenic factors of the environment on public health, however, in modern conditions they cannot be neglected. The final stage consists of data processing and formation of conclusions. Using the method of rank correlation, the main factors of influence on the objects of research are identified. The results of the research stated in the article can be used in further study of the subject and in the development of methods to eliminate the influence of the most significant factors affecting the ecological safety of children's playgrounds.

Since the Industrial Revolution, human activities have led to the emission of a lot of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, sharply increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and resulting in serious global warming. With the rapid development of computer technology, the digital economy is gradually becoming the engine of economic growth. As a new economic mode, how the digital economy affects the environment is worth studying. In this paper, we introduced the digital economy into the Solow growth model as technological progress and conducted fixed-effects regressions based on the global panel data of 190 countries from 2005 to 2016. We found an inverted U-shaped, non-linear relationship between CO2 emissions and the digital economy, which supports the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis. We suggest that governments need to not only adopt hedging policies to reduce CO2 emissions caused by the digital economy in the early stage but also promote the development of the digital economy to achieve the goal of global collaborative environmental protection.

Introduction. The transition to the digital economy and rapid development of information technologies actualize the task of companies to find new models of business management. The formation and development of the digital strategy integrated with business and HR strategies becomes prerequisite for ensuring the stable competitive position of enterprise in the market due to its transformation into the technological one. Personnel management is a dynamic subsystem of any enterprise, and qualitative rethinking of human resources management methods and technologies entails a significant impact on the results of the enterprise as a whole. It confirms the special importance of studying the impact of digitization on this area of management. The purpose of the paper is to study the features of personnel management of enterprises on the basis of digitalization. Results. Important aspects of digitization impact on enterprise personnel management are shown. It is focused the attention on the transformation of the most important subsystem of enterprise management – the system of personnel management under the influence of the digital economy. At the junction of digitalization and personnel management, a new form of management arises – digitalized personnel management. The main theoretical provisions of digitalized personnel management are considered, its principles, influence on the internal environment and the labor market as a whole are indicated. Conclusion. Personnel management is the most dynamic subsystem of the enterprise, and a qualitative rethinking of methods and technologies of personnel management entails a significant impact on the results of the enterprise as a whole. It confirms the special importance of studying the impact of digitalization on this area of management. Transformation of personnel management processes under the influence of digitalization is inevitable due to the evolution of enterprise management in general and it is a positive event, because entails increasing efficiency and shifting staff employment to more creative professions, which require unique knowledge, skills and abilities. Undoubtedly, such qualitative transformations will affect not only the internal environment of the enterprise, but also the labor market as a whole and in connection with it the education system. To achieve the positive effect of such transformations, comprehensive work is needed to implement them both at the level of individual enterprises and at the level of the national economic system. Modernization of personnel management methods may require significant investment in technology and communication, but the consequences of non-compliance with consumer experience can be significant not only for the reputation, brand, involvement and retention of employees, but also to achieve the key purpose of the enterprise.

The authors represent data on the state of the process of digitalisation of the Russian economy and draw a conclusion about the high level of the information infrastructure development along with that they note a great gap in the digitalisation level between regions. When assessing the impact of the development of Internet technologies on employment, two main consequences have been identified: the reduction of the impact of the geographical factor on the supply and demand in the labour market and the involvement of previously unoccupied social groups in the production process. The rapid development of the digital economy, the accelerated industrialisation of digital technologies such as the Internet, big data and cloud computing, have led to further improvements in computing power, a significant reduction in computing costs, and a significant leap in data analysis and processing capabilities. The purpose of the study is to analyse and evaluate the effects of economy digitalisation on employment. Within the framework of the research conducted, both general scientific and specific scientific methods were used: formal and logical research methods (the method of induction, deduction, analogy, synthesis, comparison, observation, description, systematisation), formal and legal, historical and legal, comparative and legal, institutional, system analysis. The paper analyses the current global economic and technological trends that affect the transformation and formation of new socioeconomic relations in the context of the digital economy formation. This article examines the impact of the development of digital information technologies on the labour market and employment. The authors represent data on the state of the process of digitalisation of the Russian economy and draw a conclusion about the high level of the information infrastructure development along with that they note a great gap in the digitalisation level between regions. The results of the study can be used in the work of public authorities at all levels to develop and adjust programmes for the further labour market development and to prevent unemployment.

This paper re-studies the relationship between trade openness and environmental pollution. Through the theoretical framework, there is a non-uniform effect of trade openness on environmental pollution. Utilizing four alternative measures of trade openness as threshold variables, this paper examines the effect of trade openness on environmental pollution. We adopt a regression with nonlinearity, in which our nonlinear model includes two regressions — a threshold model and an interaction-term model. Utilizing four alternative measures of trade openness, our threshold test shows a single-threshold effect on pollutant emissions, implying that there are two regimes: low- and high-corruption. Our empirical results show that for countries with high-corruption, increases in trade openness significantly reduce pollutants emissions whatever CO2 emissions or SO2 emissions, and the larger effects of trade openness on environmental quality. However, the impact of trade openness on pollution was not found in countries with low-corruption. This study suggests that further trade openness and reduced environmental degradation (i.e., decline in CO2 and SO2 emissions) are compatible rather than competing objectives, especially in high-corruption countries. Furthermore, our results also show that in low-corruption countries, the negative effects of income on CO2 emissions are statistically significant, but in high-corruption countries it is not so.

In recent years, the digital economy has achieved rapid development, especially playing an irreplaceable role in improving employment patterns, creating job opportunities, and adjusting employment structure. A sudden outbreak in 2020 impacted people’s lives, and a large number of real economies faced the situation of delayed resumption of work, which caused problems such as shortage of funds, difficulty in sales, and layoffs. However, the digital economy has developed rapidly, ensuring social supply and promoting society. Consumption has played an important role. But the digital economy also inevitably brings a series of problems, which deepens the “digital divide”. This article defines the digital economy, lists its most distinctive features, explains the positive impact of the digital economy and the problems it may bring, and proposes countermeasures and suggestions for this.
