To respond to the needs of IR 4.0, universities must continue to play their role as proving ground for educating the future generation and innovation. However, close collaboration with industry and stakeholders will be even more important to implement Education 4.0. Many of the components of IR 4.0 already exist in the Malaysian higher education system, but perhaps in separation such as soft skills that IR 4.0 demands have already been introduced to higher education in the country. In the context of demanding requirements of IR 4.0, it is important to look back on how the delivery of soft skills can be made more effective. Efforts should be made on how to make digital or even data literacy more accessible to the overall student regardless of discipline. Hence, the need for human resources in the key technical areas in IR 4.0 such internet of things (IoT), big data and analytics, cloud computing, virtual/augmented reality, and robotics should be assessed. This chapter will focus on integrating IoT in higher education.

This chapter presents a dynamic structural model of the relative contribution and importance of education and skills required of information systems (IS) professionals. Model development took into account the technical skills found in many tertiary IS programs, other business-oriented academic studies, and soft skills sought by employers in new graduates. The model also includes features of the working environment which influence the career progress of IS graduates. Acknowledging the importance of these four areas, the authors present a second-order structural model that links these areas and compares the application of this model to IS students and decision makers who employ graduates. The model fits the data for the two groups and exhibits some unexpected outcomes in the area of soft skills, with students attributing more importance to soft skills than IS managers. The model was employed to identify gender differences in perceptions of the relative contribution and importance of education and skills required of IS professionals. The model also includes features of the working environment which influence the career progress of IS graduates. The model was used to describe how attitudes and perceptions of IS professionals change across career stages as measured by age groupings. Changes in perceptions across four major age groupings show significant differences with respect to these factors according to age groups and by inference, career stage. The model allows, with some confidence, a quantitative interpretation of the relative importance of the respective variables from the perspectives of the student and employer stakeholder groups toward the education and professional development of IS professionals. The model also suggests the presence of contrasting, gender-based quantitative views of the relative importance of the respective variables to the education and professional development of IS professionals.

The chapter relates the developments in the working environment of OUP staff, concentrating on the Oxford buildings, and assessing what impact the alterations and expansions to the physical space of the Press had on the people who worked there. New buildings allowed the concentration of publishing activities in one location after the closure of the London Business and the Printing House; the redevelopment of Walton Street introduced a new staff restaurant, museum, library, and conference facilities as well as new offices, making the site a showplace for visitors and providing staff with a large democratic space. These changes were paralleled by changes to the structure of the Press, which required and were driven by the growing professionalism of the staff, particularly within administration, human resources, and marketing. OUP has always encouraged an active social life for its staff and the chapter highlights some of their sporting, musical, and dramatic activities.
