The study was accomplished through correlational research design. The purpose was comprised of investigating the impact of psychological burden on patients’ level of their marital life. The convenient sampling technique was utilized to approach 139 patients with diabetes mellitus as a sample. The data was collected through questionnaires as a source of measurement. The permission was taken to keep information confidential. The collected data was entered into SPPS for analysing. Inferential statistics were used to test hypothesis with the help of the following tests; linear regression and t-test for independent sample designs. The results of the study reflect that the psychological burden of diabetic patients influences their degree of marital satisfaction significantly. In addition, the difference of psychological burden (stress, depression and anxiety) and marital satisfaction was found significant with respect to demographic characteristics of the participants; gender, type of disease, education and working status. Female patients are reported with a greater level of psychological burden but they were observed with a poor degree of marital satisfaction as compared to males. Psychological burden and satisfaction associated with marital life due to diabetes was discussed as significant between working and non-working, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, and educated and uneducated patients. In the future, there is a need to investigate the coping styles as mediator between psychological disturbance and marital satisfaction.

Background: Peripheral arterial disorders in diabetes mellitus is a common complication that often occurs and can develop into diabetic foot ulcers. High blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus can cause increased blood viscosity resulting in thickening of the capillary membrane, where erythrocytes, platelets and leucocytes are attached to the blood vessels. Electrical stimulation by placing electrodes in the calf muscle is one of the measures to increase foot blood flow that can reduce the poor foot circulation. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of electrical stimulation in improving blood flow of patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods: The research use one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. Sampling technique using pusposive sampling as many as 62 patients with diabetes mellitus. Electrical stimulation is done by attaching electrodes to left and right calf muscles for 20 minutes, frequency 3 times a week for 2 weeks. Before and after electrical stimulation performed foot circulation examination by ankle brachial index technique. Data analysis using Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: The results showed that before the stimulation was obtained the mean ankle brakhial index 0.82 mmHg and after stimulation 0.95 mmHg (p = 0.000), meaning there is an effect of electrical stimulation in increasing foot blood flow. A calf muscle contraction during stimulation leads to increased leg blood flow through the addition of vascular endothelial growth factor and increased nitric oxide as a vasodilator of blood vessels. Electrical stimulation can be applied in increasing the blood flow of the foot, thus preventing the occurrence of diabetic foot ulcers. Conclusion: Stimulation is one therapy that can be done to prevent poor foot circulation of diabetes mellitus patients.

The inappropriate use or misuse of antibiotics, particularly by outpatients, increases antibiotic resistance. A lack of public knowledge about “Responsible use of antibiotics” and “How to obtain antibiotics” is a major cause of this. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of an educational video about antibiotics and antibiotic use to increase outpatients’ knowledge shown in two public hospitals in East Java, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental research setting was used with a one-group pre-test—post-test design, carried out from November 2018 to January 2019. The study population consisted of outpatients to whom antibiotics were prescribed. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique; 98 outpatients at MZ General Hospital in the S regency and 96 at SG General Hospital in the L regency were included. A questionnaire was used to measure the respondents’ knowledge, and consisted of five domains, i.e., the definition of infections and antibiotics, obtaining the antibiotics, directions for use, storage instructions, and antibiotic resistance. The knowledge test score was the total score of the Guttman scale (a dichotomous “yes” or “no” answer). To determine the significance of the difference in knowledge before and after providing the educational video and in the knowledge score between hospitals, the (paired) Student’s t-test was applied. The educational videos significantly improved outpatients’ knowledge, which increased by 41% in MZ General Hospital, and by 42% in SG General Hospital. It was concluded that an educational video provides a useful method to improve the knowledge of the outpatients regarding antibiotics.
