Al-Qur'an and Hadith have an important role especially in high school-age children, where very few of them learn and understand the contents of the Qur'an and Hadith. In addition, students do not yet understand the importance of understanding the Qur'an and Hadith for the future. Many of them lack interest, lack parental roles, and an unsupportive environment. This study aims to increase knowledge and understanding related to the Effectiveness of the Additional Lesson Activity (Qur'an) Hadith in the afternoon at SMAN 15 Takengon guided by Tereng Antara. Local policies began to erode with the inclusion of modern culture. For example, many Takengon students spend time playing games in internet cafes so that they do not have time to practice the Koran and the Koran as room decoration, even making antiques that are only displayed in a glass cabinet, never read moreover study it. Reflecting on this, there is great hope for educators to apply the teachings of Al-Qur'an Hadith to all students.

Purpose The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released guidelines for rehabilitation professionals regarding the care of children with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Given that mTBI impacts millions of children each year and can be particularly detrimental to children in middle and high school age groups, access to universal recommendations for management of postinjury symptoms is ideal. Method This viewpoint article examines the CDC guidelines and applies these recommendations directly to speech-language pathology practices. In particular, education, assessment, treatment, team management, and ongoing monitoring are discussed. In addition, suggested timelines regarding implementation of services by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are provided. Specific focus is placed on adolescents (i.e., middle and high school–age children). Results SLPs are critical members of the rehabilitation team working with children with mTBI and should be involved in education, symptom monitoring, and assessment early in the recovery process. SLPs can also provide unique insight into the cognitive and linguistic challenges of these students and can serve to bridge the gap among rehabilitation and school-based professionals, the adolescent with brain injury, and their parents. Conclusion The guidelines provided by the CDC, along with evidence from the field of speech pathology, can guide SLPs to advocate for involvement in the care of adolescents with mTBI. More research is needed to enhance the evidence base for direct assessment and treatment with this population; however, SLPs can use their extensive knowledge and experience working with individuals with traumatic brain injury as a starting point for post-mTBI care.

This cross-sectional study investigated the bilingual lexical skills of 175 US school-age children (5 to18 years old) with Cantonese, Mandarin, or Korean as their heritage language (HL), and English as their dominant language. Primary study goals were to identify potential patterns of development in bilingual lexical skills over the elementary to high school time span and to examine the relation of environmental factors to lexical skills. HL and English productive lexical skills were assessed with a Picture Naming and a Verbal Fluency task. English receptive lexical skills were assessed with Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test. A survey obtained information about participants’ language use in six environmental contexts. There were age-related significant increases in both HL and English skills. However, English proficiency already had a significant lead over HL proficiency at the youngest age. English receptive lexical skills reached monolingual expectations from age 8, whereas for HL, high school age participants on average only reached the level of early elementary school monolinguals. Although more English use at home at younger ages was associated with stronger English skills, the relation did not exist for older participants. Instead, among older participants, more English use at home was associated with weaker HL skills. Children’s attendance at HL programs and visits to home countries bore little relation to HL proficiency.

SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN AWARENESS OF THE CAUSES OF OBESITY AND ITS HEALTH RLATED OUTCOMESChaychenko T., Gonchar M., Chumachenko T., Klymenko V., Samsonenko T., Kharkova M.Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition affecting children and adolescents that can be prevented by life style modification. Therefore, school-age children awareness of the causes of obesity and its health related outcomes is very important. Subjects Methods This work is a part of the complex project “Assessment of the current nutritional status, nutrition-related health problems in school-age children in Ukraine”. The total number of participants is 392 school-age children who were grouped by the age:primary school (75 children aged 6–9), secondary school (202 children aged 10–14) and high school (115 children aged 15–18). Original questionnaire was elaborated for the survey, consisting of both multiple choice questions and “open questions” that encouraged children to give their own idea with the purpose of understanding a real awareness of the problem. Answers to the open questions about the causes and effects of obesity were assessed. Results One third of respondents regardless of age (primary school, – 29.31%, secondary school – 29.21%, high school – 33.04%, p>0.05) understood that obesity can cause serious health problems and the most detrimental changes can occur in the cardiovascular system. It was established that self-controlled situations were named as the main causatives of the obesityby more than half of surveyed children (53.33% of primary school, 53.46% of secondary school children and 41.74% high school children, p>0.05). We established that less than 10% of children were not aware of the causes of obesity and possible outcomes. Meantime, 30% of respondents were not prone to give any answer. Conclusions: Regardless of age school-children are aware of health-related problems. Special education programs are necessary for all school-age children with the purpose of developing the responsibility for the health in their adult lifeKey words: Obesity, causes of overweight, school-age children, social education program.

AbstractWe describe subject recruitment from the University of Chile School-Age Children Twin Registry (REMEUCHI). The research aim of REMEUCHI is to quantify the impact of genetic and environmental factors on scholastic achievement in a multicausal approach. The Ministry of Education of Chile, in collaboration with the Registry Office, provided the list of possible twin pairs graduated from high school in 2004 in Chile's metropolitan region. From a population of 70,065 school-age children who had graduated from high school, 434 possible twin pairs were analyzed. Of these, 327 were twins reared together (75.3% of the 434 possible twins pairs) and born between 1986 and 1987 in Chile (mean age 18 years), and approximately 8% were not twins despite matches on full name and birth data. The rest of the possible twin pairs were probably twins reared apart, since one member of the pair had moved to study in another region of Chile. Zygosity was determined through questionnaires, maternal reports of twin similarities, and by the hospital records of the twins at the time of birth. Three hundred and twenty-seven pairs were identified, where monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins represented 46.8% and 53.2% of pairs, respectively, with a DZ/MZ ratio of 1.14. Considering same-sex MZ pairs, the percentage of female pairs was greater (55.6%) than male pairs (44.4%). When DZ pairs were analyzed, 47.7% were of opposite sex, 20.1% were male pairs and 32.2% female pairs. In Chile, these findings represent a baseline study to contribute to the establishment of a national twin registry in the future.
