The experience of introducing advanced technologies for wastewater treatment at the wastewater treatment facilities in Moscow is considered; process flow schemes for the structures of different capacities are described. Since the late 1990s, the Engineering and Technology Center of Mosvodokanal JSC has been working on the development and introduction of advanced wastewater treatment technologies with the removal of nutrients. Since the composition of wastewater differs at different treatment facilities, it is not possible to "transfer" foreign technologies without correction and adaptation; moreover, sometimes the development of technology "from square one" is required. For more than 20 years, a stepwise introduction of advanced technologies has been carried out at the Moscow treatment facilities of South Butovo and Zelenograd, at the nutrients removal block at the Lyuberetskie wastewater treatment facilities, at the new block of the Kurianovskie Wastewater Treatment Facilities. At present, the reconstruction of the Lyuberetskie Wastewater Treatment Facilities (old and new blocks) is underway, the reconstruction of the old part of the Kurianovskie Wastewater Treatment Facilities is planned, the treatment facilities of the Troitsk and Novomoskovsk administrative districts in Moscow have been under upgrade. The experience of Mosvodokanal JSC was used in the development of an ITS 10-2015 reference book of the best available technologies. A variety of process solutions provides for ensuring the standard quality of effluent for the conditions of different facilities.

Abstract The work is devoted to the task of simplifying the assessment of the effect of effluents from treatment facilities on the river hydrobiocenosis. The studies were carried out on the mountain river Uzh (Uzhgorod, Ukraine). Our approach to assessing the impact of waste treatment facilities on the river receiver is based on the estimate of the similarity of species composition and quantitative characteristics of populations of organisms from the aerotank and from the river. It is shown that the quantitative development of populations of species of ciliates from the aeration tank is a good indicator for assessing the degradation of organic matter coming with wastewater. The use of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the protozoa from the wastewater treatment plant as a criterion for assessing the quality of the environment in the area of wastewater discharge showed their representativeness and effectiveness. The use of a limited number of species makes it possible to conduct an express assessment of the effect of effluents on receiving reservoirs for specialists working with activated sludge in the laboratories of treatment facilities.

The most frequently used technological schemes of wastewater treatment in the food industry are considered. Their advantages and disadvantages are noted. In order to improve the quality of wastewater treatment, the upgraded system of treatment facilities with the introduction of the aeration tank as the main device for purification from organic pollution has been developed. This increases the proportion of oxygen used, system resistance to clogging, reduces pressure losses and energy costs, increases cleaning efficiency. It was found that the efficiency of wastewater treatment during the introduction of aeration tank is 7075. The calculated content of BOD and surfactant in the waste water of the enterprise after treatment during the installation of the aeration tank does not exceed the MPC.

Introduction. The authors carried out a comparative analysis of Russian and foreign approaches to regulatory and legal regulation of technologies for industrial treatment of wastewater and its sediments concerning parasitic pathogens. The scientific and applied aspects of introducing domestic lime-containing reagents into disinvasion technology, which can be an alternative to energy-intensive and expensive water treatment methods, have been updated. For consideration by the R.F. Department of water and communal services, the work presents a comparative analysis of Russian and European regulatory and legal acts on the use of reagent compositions of slaked/quicklime in industrial technologies for decontamination and disinfection of sewage and their sediments. Standardization of processes and quality of wastewater disinvasion and its sediments with justification of measures to strengthen hygienic control in the world community of water treatment is updated. Materials and methods. applied methods of overview, comparative analysis to evaluate the regulatory and legal regulation of technological techniques that ensure parasitocidal efficiency of wastewater treatment and its sediments in industrial water treatment. Results. The data of full-scale studies of the waters of the surface reservoirs of the Moscow region and the quality of wastewater treatment at discharge points indicate the low efficiency of disinvestment of urban wastewater from centralized wastewater disposal, entering the hydraulic structures of the metropolis and their contribution to the total level of high parasitic pollution of surface water sources. Conclusion. The analysis of the regulatory regulation of the wastewater treatment and sediments industry showed no development of standardization of wastewater and sediments treatment sub-processes and their complete disinvasion according to parasitic safety criteria. A comparative analysis of measures to enhance hygienic assessment of the quality of cleaning and production of secondary products from formed waste and sediments also showed that preliminary work was done with best available technologies (BAT-5) (information technology support (ITS) 10-2015) on compliance with the sanitary legislation of the Russian Federation, including in terms of legal regulation of standard procedures for the production of by-product (biogas, organic fertilizer, soil, recultivant, etc.) or practically non-hazardous or low-hazard waste intended for placement in the environment.

Biosludge is a normal form of accumulating microbial populations inside the sewage or wastewater treatment facilities. Excessive sludge in the wastewater treatment basins has to be removed periodically to ensure good water quality of the effluent. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of biodiesel production by transesterification of slaughterhouse sludge cake. The sludge cake was collected from a selected commercial slaughterhouse and transesterified with methanol, n-hexane, and acids (e.g., sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid) at 55 °C. Three acid concentrations (2%, 4%, and 8%, v/v) in methanol under four reaction time periods (4, 8, 16, and 24 h) were applied. Results showed that the highest accumulated fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) yields of 2.51 ± 0.08% and 2.27 ± 0.09% were achieved when 8% (v/v) of H2SO4 or HCl were added in a 4 h reaction time, respectively. Methyl esters of palmitic acid (C16:0), palmitoleic acid (C16:1), stearic acid (C18:0), and oleic acid (C18:1n9c) were the major components of biodiesel from acid methanolysis of slaughterhouse sludge cake. Experimental and analytical results of acid methanolysis of slaughterhouse sludge cake showed that acid methanolysis of sludge cake was one of the feasible and practical options to recycle sludge waste and produce renewable energy.

Discharge of sewage to the environment in the form of treated or untreated wastewater can have serious impacts on human health and quality of life and on ecosystem condition. Since a previous review in 1997, upgrades to wastewater treatment facilities, along with improved source control, have produced successes in reducing loadings of certain pollutants (e.g., mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls) to Canadian waters. However, nationally, loads of phosphorus discharged from wastewater treatment facilities have not changed in recent years (2003–2008), and releases of nitrogen have increased slightly. In some locations, wastewater discharges are contributors to bacterial contamination, toxicity from heavy metals and ammonia, and eutrophication, all of which continue to threaten public and environmental health. An increasing number of studies are also demonstrating developmental, reproductive, and behavioural changes in fish and other aquatic organisms from exposure to pharmaceuticals, personal-care products, or other pollutants in domestic wastewater, even after treatment. Minimizing wastewater discharge and mitigating its effects on the environment and human health will be a challenge. It is critical that gains achieved by improved wastewater treatment and other control measures not be reversed by relaxation of efforts or by failure to keep pace with population growth.

Developing countries' experience is a huge gap in the coverage of collection-system and domestic wastewater treatment. Wherever the wastewater treatment facilities are available, they are running below the design standards. This leads to the discharge of pollutants into the natural water bodies and creating a negative impact on the environment and human health as well. Odor nuisance has become a major environmental issue worldwide with increasing public demand for better control of odor emissions from the municipal wastewater treatment facilities. Odor get affects the population directly and there is a trend that more and more peoples are becoming less tolerable with more odor emissions. Bad smell is often an indicator of the public potential health risk. Performance assessment of Haya water treatment plant in Manuma Village has been done. The main objective of this study is to assess the performance of the treatment plant with respect to produce high quality of treated water and reduce odor complaints. Influent and effluent samples were collected at critical treatment steps of the plant and analyzed for chemical, physical and microbial parameters. The study will be used to monitor the Manuma wastewater treatment plant and compare its performance to that one that uses the Sequence Batch Reactor (SBR) process. Study shows that process with wet scrubber technology will be the suitable treatment process to create an environment without any health-related issues, and selecting these alternative treatment facilities with the latest technology will lead to creating high-quality of treated water without any odor issues.

Currently the water supply system in the municipality of Corinto (Cauca) in Colombia provides drinking water to the entire urban and rural population of the municipality. In order to provide drinking water to the entire population, it became necessary to optimize and/or expand the existing water treatment plant. The article presents an assessment of the consideration of two optimization options: the need for reconstruction of existing water treatment facilities or the construction of additional water treatment units. A reasonable proposal was made to expand the station by building additional water treatment units, including advanced modern water treatment technologies, such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, sorption, settling using thin-layer modules and disinfection, based on the survey (diagnostics), technical and economic analysis, analysis of the efficiency of the existing water treatment plant, taking into account the quality of drinking water preparation, confirmed by the analysis of samples, the results of physical, chemical and microbiological tests, indicating the optimal quality of drinking water for human consumption. The use of modern water treatment technologies will allow to achieve the required quality of purified sufficient water for drinking purpose.

The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of highly concentrated fat-containing wastes of the food industry are given. The aggregate states of the presence of fat in wastewater are discussed, which determine the composition of treatment facilities in the technological scheme for the deep treatment of fat-containing effluents. The basic classical methods of wastewater treatment from fat are analyzed: mechanical, physicochemical (air flotation, electroflotation), as well as the method of deep wastewater treatment - biological treatment. It is shown that the traditional technological scheme of wastewater treatment from excessively high fat content does not ensure the quality of treated effluents to regulatory requirements. The prospects of anaerobic-aerobic technology for cleaning wastewater from food industry enterprises from excessively high fat concentrations as a method of deep post-treatment are discussed. The conclusion is drawn about the effectiveness of the combined technology for wastewater treatment with an excessively high fat content, based on the use of physicochemical methods (air flotation, electroflotation) and biological treatment (anaerobic-aerobic method).
