ABSTRACT Pinang Yaki (Areca vestiaria) is a plan originating from the North Sulawesi region. Pinang Yaki nut containds flavonoide which can act as anti-hyperlipidemia. The study aims to identify the anti-hyperlipidemic actibity of ethanol extract of Pinang Yaki (Areca vestiaria)  fruit on wistar strain rats induced by hyperlipidemic. Total cholesterol level is a parameter on this study. The method used was laboratory experimental with a completely randomized design. The result of the study were obtained from 2 stagxes of measuring blood cholesterol, namely pre and post. The treatment was started by giving high-fat feed for 28 days. On the 29th day pre measurementswere taken. Furthermore, treatment was given to each group, namely CMC in the negative control group, simvastatin in the positive control groups, and ethanol extract of Pinang Yaki Fruit with doses of each group of PS2 (200 mg), PS4 (400 mg), and PS8 (800 mg). Post measurement are cerried out after 2 hours of administration. Data were analyzed by Paired T-test. Statistical results indicate a significant difference between the pre and post groups. From the percentage point of view, the dose of 400 mg ethanol extract of Pinang Yaki Fruit gives the best reduction in blood cholesterol levelKeywords: Pinang Yaki Fruit, Antihyperlipidemia, Male White Rat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi aktifitas antihiperlipidemia Ekstrak etanol buah Pinang Yaki (Areca vestiaria) terhadap tikus galur wistar yang diinduksi hiperlipidemia. Kadar kolesterol total merupakan parameter dalam penelitian ini. Metode yang digunakan eksperimental laboratorium dengan rancangan acak lengkap. Hasil penelitian diperoleh dari 2 tahap pengukuran kolesterol darah, yaitu pre dan post. Perlakuan dimulai dengan memberi pakan tinggi lemak selama 28 hari. Pada hari ke 29 dilakukan pengukuran pre. Selanjutnya diberikan perlakuan pada tiap kelompok, yaitu CMC pada kelompok Kontrol negatif, simvastatin pada kelompok Kontrol positif, dan ekstrak etanol buah pinang yaki dengan dosis masing-masing kelompok PS2 (200 mg), PS4 (400 mg), dan PS8 (800 mg). Pengukuran Post dilakukan setelah 2 jam pemberian. Data dianalisis dengan Paired T-test. Hasil statistika menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok pre dan post. dilihat dari presentase, dosis ekstrak etanol buah pinang yaki 400 mg memberikan penurunan kadar kolesterol darah terbaik.Kata kunci : Buah Pinang Yaki, Antihiperlipidemia, Tikus Putih Jantan

ABSTRAK Kurma merupakan salah satu buah dengan kandungan gizi terlengkap. Selain tinggi energi terutama karbohidrat (glukosa, fruktosa), kurma juga mengandung mineral besi yang berperan dalam metabolisme energi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh kurma terhadap berat badan tikus (Rattus novergicus). Jenis penelitian eksperimental laboratorik dengan pre-post test with control grup. Sampel adalah 24 ekor tikus putih jantan (Rattus novergicus) strain Wistar, dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok, yaitu kelompok K1 (kontrol negatif), dan K2 (kontrol positif (diberikan suplemen FeSO )), P1 (perlakuan ekstrak air kurma mentah), dan P2 (perlakuan sari kurma). Analisis data dengan uji paired t-test untuk mengetahui perbedaan berat badan pre-post test, ANOVA untuk mengetahui perbedaan berat badan post test antar kelompok, yang dilanjutkan dengan post hoc test LSD, dengan α=0,01. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terjadi peningkatan berat badan pada semua kelompok sampel (K1, K2, P1, dan P2). Peningkatan berat badan tertinggi pada kelompok kontrol positif (K1) 11,12%, diikuti oleh kelompok perlakuan SK (P2) 11,00%, dan perlakuan EAKM (P1) 10,90%, sedangkan yang terendah pada kelompok kontrol negatif (K1) hanya 5,32%. Hasil analisis paired t-Test pada kelompok kontrol positif (K2), perlakuan EAKM (P1) dan SK (P2) menunjukan terdapat perbedaan berat badan pre- post test yang signifikan (p<0,01). Hasil analisis One Way Anova, diperoleh nilai p=0,000 (p<0,01) yang menandakan terdapat perbedaan berat badan post test yang signifikan antar 4 kelompok, di mana post hoc test LSD menunjukan perbedaan terletak antara kontrol negatif (K1) dengan kelompok yang diberikan perlakuan (K2, P1, dan P2), sedangkan diantara kelompok K2, P1, dan P2 tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan. Kesimpulan: Kurma dapat meningkatkan berat badan tikus yang mengalami anemia defisiensi besi. Pengaruh kurma terhadap berat badan tikus sama dengan pengaruh dari pemberian suplemen FeSO4. Peningkatan berat badan tikus tanpa perlakuan sangat rendah jika dibandingkan dengan peningkatan berat badan tikus yang diberikan kurma dan suplemen FeSO .Kata Kunci: kurma (Pheonix dactylifera L.); ekstrak air kurma mentah (EAKM), sari kurma (SK), suplemen FeSO4, berat badan tikus. ABSTRACT Dates are one of the most nutritious fruits. In addition to high energy, especially carbohydrates, dates also contain iron minerals that play a role in energy metabolism. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dates on rat body weight (Rattus novergicus). Types of laboratory experimental studies with pre-post test with control group. The sample was 24 male white rats (Rattus novergicus) Wistar strain, divided into 4 groups, ie group K1 (negative control), and K2 (positive control (given FeSO4 supplement)), P1 (crude dates juice treatment), and P2 (dates juice treatment). Analysis of data with paired t-test to determine the difference of pre-post test weight, One Way Anova to know difference of post test between group weight, followed by post hoc test of LSD, with α = 0,01. The results showed that there was an increase in weight across all sample groups (K1, K2, P1, and P2). The highest weight gain in the positive control group (K1) was 11.12%, followed by the group of dates juice treatment (P2) 11.00%, and crude dates juice treatment (P1) 10.90%, while the lowest in the negative control group (K1) only 5 , 32%. The result of paired t-test analysis in positive control group (K2), crude dates juice treatment (P1) and dates juice treatment (P2) showed significant difference of pre-post test weight (p <0,01). The results of One Way Anova analysis showed that p = 0,000 (p <0,01) indicated that there was significant difference of post test weight between 4 groups, where post hoc test of LSD showed the difference between negative control (K1) and group that given treatment (K2, P1, and P2), whereas between groups K2, P1, and P2 there was no significant difference. Conclusion: Dates can increase the weight of rats with iron deficiency anemia. The effect of dates on body weight of rats is similar to that of FeSO4 supplementation. Increased rats weight without treatment is very low when compared with the increased weight of rats given dates and supplements of FeSO4.   Keywords: dates (Pheonix dactylifera L.); raw dates crude extract, dates juice, FeSO4 supplement, weight of rats.

Doxorubicin is an effective drug used in cancer therapy but produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) that are toxic to heart cells. The purpose of this study was to determine the cardioprotective activity of Mengkudu fruit ethanol extract against the heart induced by doxorubicin. Mengkudu fruit ethanol extract was obtained by maceration. Cardioprotective activity test is done by measuring blood LDH and CK-MB levels as well as cardiac histology. Animals were induced with DOX 5 mg/kg BW on day 1,7,14 and 20th. Administration of Mengkudu extract 100 mg / kg bw, 300 mg / kg bw, and 500 mg / kg BW given from day 1 to day 20 and on the 21st day cardiac serum levels of CK-MB normal group had a significant difference (p <0.05) with a negative control treatment group, treatment group I, treatment group II, and treatment group III and did not have a significant difference (P> 0.05) with a positive control group with vitamin e supplementation and serum LDH levels the normal group had a significant difference (p <0.05) with the negative control group, the treatment group I, the treatment group II, and the treatment group II and did not have a significant difference (P> 0.05) with the positive control group with vitamin e supplementation. Cardiology histology of the Mengkudu extract 100 mg/kg bw + DOX and the Mengkudu extract 300 mg/kg bb + DOX, and the negative control group showed bleeding, fragmentation and myocytolysis, in the treatment of group III, the group normal, and the positive control group did not show heart muscle damage. Based on the description above it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Mengkudu fruit containing flavonoids has cardioprotective activity by inhibiting the formation of ROS. The higher the dose of an extract, the greater the decrease in LDH and CKMB levels and increase protection against heart damage.

<p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh pemberian ekstrak etanol kulit petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk) terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan yang diinduksi aloksan. Hewan percobaan dibagi atas 5 kelompok diantaranya kelompok kontrol negatif, kelompok kontrol positif,dosis I (280 mg/kgBB mencit), dosis II (560 mg/kg BB mencit), dosis III (840 mg/kg BB mencit). Penelitian dilakukan selama 21 hari. Persentase penurunan kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan setelah diberikan ekstrak etanol kulit petai pada hari ke-21 adalah dosis I (77,52 %) lebih besar dibandingkan dengan dosis II (69,5 %) dan dosis III (73,37 %). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan uji Two Way Anova dengan program SPSS 17. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak etanol kulit petai untuk tiga variasi dosis menyatakan perbedaan yang bermakna secara statistik terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan.</p><p><em>Petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk) has a compound β-sitosterol and stigmasterol that have efficacy to decreased blood glucose levels. This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of petai peel for decrease blood glucose levels of male mice induced by alloxan. Experimental animals were divided into 5 groups including negative control group, positive control group, the first dose (280 mg/kg in mice), the second dose (560 mg/kg in mice), the third dose (840 mg/kg in mice). The study was conducted for 21 days. After 21 days, the result found that the percentage of blood glucose levels after the male mice given the ethanol extract of petai peel was, the first dose (77.52%) biger than the second dose (69.5%) and the third dose (73.37%). The data obtained were analyzed by Two Way ANOVA using SPSS 17. The results showed that have signicantly difference between three dose variation of ethanol extract of petai peel in blood glucose levels.</em></p>

ABSTRACT Background: Recent studies showed that Interleukin-8 (IL-8), activated cytokine immune response which plays an important role in the development of acute and chronic gastritis. Harmless anti-inflammatory therapeutic alternatives have been proposed, for example, the consumption of Sechium Edule Jacq. Swartz (chayote). Antioxidant (flavonoid) and cell regeneration (alkaloid) agents were found in chayote. This study aimed to determine the effect of chayote Sechium Edule Jacq. Swartz extracts on the level of IL-8 in Wistar rats with aspirin- induced gastritis. Subjects and Method: This was a randomized controlled trial (RCT) conducted at the laboratory of Mathematics and Natural Science, Universitas Sumatra Utara from January to February 2020. A total of 35 male Wistar rats was selected for this study and randomly allocated into 7 groups: (1) Negative control; (2) Positive control; (3) 100 mg/ kg BW chayote ethanol extract ; (4) 200 mg/kg BW chayote ethanol extract; (5) 100 mg/ kg BW chayote ethyl acetate fraction; (6) 200 mg/kg BW chayote ethyl acetate fraction; and (7) 20 mg omeprazole. The rats in positive control and treatment groups were induced with aspirin (200mg/ kg BW). The negative control group received no intervention. The dependent variable was level of IL-8 measured by ELISA. The independent variables were treatment status. The data were analyzed by One Way Anova and post hoc test. Results: The mean differences of IL-8 level were not statistically significant between study groups (p= 0.327). Mean of IL-8 level was higher in positive control group (Mean= 160.80; SD= 6.90) than in negative control group (Mean= 141.20; SD= 10.98). The lowest IL-8 level was in 100mg/ kg BW chayote ethanol extract group (Mean= 149.94; SD= 40.4), followed by 200mg/ kg BW (Mean= 152.4; SD= 30.73) and 100mg/ kg BW (Mean= 164.60; SD= 25.04) chayote ethyl acetate fraction groups, 20 mg omeprazole group (Mean= 170.60; SD= 21.58), and 200 mg/ kg BW chayote ethanol extract group (Mean= 176.80; SD= 10.98). Conclusion: The low dose (100mg/ kg BW) chayote ethanol extract has the most potential antiinflammation effect on in vitro gastritis with the lowest IL-8 level of all doses of chayote ethanol extract, chayote ethyl acetate fraction, and omeprazole. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sealing ability of three different canal filling techniques. Sixty-four roots of extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were prepared using ProTaper® rotary instruments. The specimens were then randomly divided into 3 experimental groups (n=16) and 2 control groups (n=8). The root canals were filled using cold lateral compaction (CLC group), continuous wave condensation technique using the Elements Obturation Unit® (EOU group), and ProTaper obturators (PT group). For the negative control group, 8 roots were filled using lateral compaction as in the CLC group, and the teeth were covered twice with a layer of nail varnish (NCG group). Another 8 roots were filled using lateral compaction, but without sealer, and these were used as the positive control (PCG group). A glucose leakage model was used for quantitative evaluation of microleakage for 24 hours and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 weeks. No significant difference in the cumulative amount of leakage was found between the three experimental groups at all observation times. The lateral condensation of cold gutta-percha can guarantee a similar seal of canal fillings as can be achieved by using thermal methods, in the round canals.

Immunomodulator is an ingredient or drug that can modulate immune system functions and activities. This study was conducted to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge on macrophage phagocytosis activity. Twenty four male mice balb/c were divided into six groups. The first group received 100 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus Sarasinorum sponge, the second group received 200 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge, the third group received 300 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus Sarasinorum sponge and the fourth group received 400 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus Sarasinorum sponge. The positive control group received Phyllanthus niruri linn extract (Stimuno®) 0,13 mg/g and the negative control group received NaCMC 0,5%. The extract was orally administered from first day to seventh day. On the eighth day, each of the mice was injected Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (SA) 0.5 mL intraperitoneally. Macrophage cell activity is calculated from smears of peritoneal fluid of mice. Increased doses of ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge increase the amount of macrophage phagocytosis activity that are 25,25% (negative control), 61,5% (positive control), 55,75% (100 mg/kg), 60,75% (200 mg/kg), 62,25% (300 mg/kg) dan 66,25% (400 mg/kg). The results showed that the ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge has the potential as immunomodulator at a doses of 300 mg/kgBB and 400 mg/kg with no significantly different effectiveness with positive control in increasing macrophage cell phagocytosis activity based on the result of post-hoc statistical test of Tukey (sig.> 0,05).

Aim. The study aimed at evaluating the incidence of dentinal defects after root canal retreatment with ProTaper Universal retreatment (PTUR) and XP-endo Shaper and Finisher R (XP). Materials and Methods. Sixty extracted single-rooted human premolars were selected and divided into 4 groups of 15 teeth each. In the negative control group, the teeth were left unprepared. In the positive control group, the teeth were prepared with ProTaper Next and obturated with no further retreatment. In the PTUR and XP groups, the teeth were prepared and obturated followed by removal of the filling material at body temperature using PTUR and XP instruments, respectively. The roots were then sectioned at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex and observed under a digital microscope to detect defects. Results. PTUR group showed significantly higher ( p value <0.05) incidence of defects than the other groups. Comparison of no defects versus defects between groups in different areas of root canals demonstrated significant difference among the groups in the apical and cervical regions. Conclusion. Within the limitations of the present study, PTUR files created significantly more dentinal defects than XP files, with most of those defects at the cervical and apical areas of the root canals.

This study aim was to determine the influence ant nest plant extract (Myrmecodia pendans) on histopathological changeof white rat liver (Rattus novergicus) due to induced with paracetamol toxic dose. This study used 24 male white rats, divided into four groups, negative control group (P0) given placebo, positive control group (P1) given paracetamol dose 250 mg / kg bw for 10 days, P2 given ant nest extract 250 mg / kg bw and paracetamol dose 250 mg / kg bw for 10 days, P3 given ants nest extract 250 mg / kg bw for seven days, then continued by giving paracetamol and ants nest extract with dose 250 mg / kg bw for ten days. After the treatment done, all the rats were dinecropsed. Liver organs were taken and processed for making histopathology preparations. Parameters examined included hemorrhage, congestion, degeneration and necrosis. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using Kruskal Wallis test followed by Mann Whitney test. Mann Whitney test results for all categories of histopathologic changes in  hemorrhagic, congestion, degeneration, and necrosis between negative control group (P0) and positive control group (P1) were significantly different (P <0.05), between negative control (P0) with P2 and P3 there was no significant difference (P> 0,05). Afterward, between the positive control (P1) and P2 with P3 there was a significant difference (P <0.05). I can be concludedthat the administration of paracetamol dose 250 mg/kg bw for 10 days affects the histopathologic changes of white rat liver. The administration of ant nest plant extracts can reduce the side effects of toxic doses of paracetamol.

Chitosan is one of the most abundant and dispersed polymers in nature. It has a rapid healing effect for tissues and has an effect on bone remodeling. The purpose of this study was to prove that giving chitosan influenced the decrease of osteoclast number and increasing number of osteoblasts in female mice of wistar strain of ovariectomy menopause model.This study used a posttest only control group design. The total sample of 30 rats divided into three groups was randomized, osteoporosis was made with the menopausal model which was performed ovariectomy in the positive control group and the treatment group then in the treatment group was given chitosan extract of single dose of 45 mg / day via Nasogastric Tube (NGT). K1 was a negative control group (without ovariectomy and without chitosan), K2 was a positive control group (with no chitosan ovariectomy), K3 was the treatment group (ovariectomy and chitosan 45 mg / day).The results showed significant differences in the number of osteoblasts between K1 and K3, K2 with K3, and no significant differences were found in the K1 group with K2. While the number of osteoclasts showed that there were significant differences in K1 group with K2 and no significant difference was found in K1 group with K3, K2 with K3.Conclusions in this study showed that 45 mg / day of chitosan doses could significantly increase osteoblast counts in menopause female white rats and decrease the number of osteoclasts performed by ovariectomy with chitosan administration.

Abstract Background and aims: Cardiovascular diseases are widespread and causes many deaths in the world. The concentration of acute phase protein: C-reactive protein (CRP) and fibrinogen will rise dramatically when inflammation happens, which that can be used as an early marker of cardiovascular disease risk. Tempeh gembus contains fiber, unsaturated fatty acids and isoflavones are believed to reduce the inflammatory reaction. The aim of the study was to determinate the effect of tempeh gembus variations to levels of hcCRP and levels of fibrinogen of Sprague Dawley rats with atherogenic diet. Material and methods: This study was quasi-experimental with posttest only randomized control group design using 35 Sprague Dawley mice. The rats were randomized into 5 groups: negative control group given the standard diet, the positive control group given standard diet and atherogenic diet, and three treatment groups were given the standard diet, atherogenic diet and variation of tempeh gembus (tempeh gembus, heated tempeh gembus and tempeh gembus with bromelain enzyme) for 28 days. Serum levels of hsCRP and fibrinogen examined using ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay). Results and conclusions: The administration of tempeh gembus with bromelain enzyme is the most effective treatment for hsCRP serum level indicated a significant difference (p=0.028) between the negative control group, positive control group and first group with the third group. Fibrinogen serum levels showed significant differences in all treatment groups (p =0.042), administration of tempeh gembus with bromelain enzyme is the most effective treatment is shown by a significant difference between the negative control group and the positive control group with third group. The administration of tempeh gembus with bromelain enzyme for 28 days can reduce the serum levels of hsCRP and fibrinogen on rats significantly.
