This research tries to uncover kiai's hegemony based on the perspective of language which is correlated with the discourse of democratic values. Gramsci's hegemony is used as the basis for analyzing word structures in the context of the territory of a pesantren caregiver, to dissect the level of kiai's intervention on the sustainability of democratization through his utterances. The context of power uses Foucault's assertion, that the pattern of power relations cannot be conceptualized as belonging to an individual or class. Therefore, the author tries to distill the level of democracy from the power relations of the kiai at pesantren Raudlatu Ulum 2 Putukrejo Gondanglegi Malang through the texture perspective of his expressions. The method used is Qualitative research. This type of research uses methods of observation, interviews and documentation. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses the following steps: Field notes are reduced in categories. The results are presented for each category. Analysis of the language of caregivers in this paper is limited to two aspects: First, things that are nuanced politically. Second, matters relating to policies within the scope of pesantren.

This study investigated power relations in a graduate seminar on Literacy learning and knowledge acquisition. Three categories were examined in relation to ideological assumptions: students’ expectations, institution’s expectations, and teachers’ perceptions of their roles as guided by their teaching perspectives. The study aimed at identifying how those aspects shaped by ideological perspectives influenced the interviewed teachers’ viewpoints about power dynamics. It also addressed the dominance of the mainstream norms over those of the minority students coming from different cultures. The issue of voice in relation to diversity was discussed as an important factor that shaped power relations in classroom discourse. A critical perspective was adopted throughout the paper with the purpose of advocating a pedagogical stance that would encourage the empowerment of students and build upon their diversity. Through the study of field notes and audio tapes of interviews and classroom interactions, three main factors seemed to have contributed to teachers’ perceptions of power relations within classroom settings. The factors were: students’ expectations, institutions’ expectations, and teachers’ perceptions of their roles. Regarding issues of voice, participants seemed to have come to a consensus concerning reasons that might have led to persistence on teachers’ part to students’ conformity to mainstream norms, which they explained in terms of limitations in most teachers training in dealing with diversity.

Data repositories can support secure data management for multi-institutional and geographically dispersed research teams. Primarily designed to provide secure access, storage, and sharing of quantitative data, limited focus has been given to the unique considerations of data repositories for qualitative research. We share our experiences of using a data repository in a large qualitative nursing research study. Over a 27-month period, data collected by this 15-member team from 83 participants included photos, audio recordings and transcripts of interviews, and field notes. The data repository supported the secure collection, storage, and management of over 1,800 files with data. However, challenges were introduced during analysis that required negotiations about the structure and processes of the data repository. We discuss strengths and limitations of data repositories, and introduce practical strategies for developing a data management plan for qualitative research, which is supported through a data repository.

Based on a review of existing qualitative research, this study proposes a gender-based interpretation and critique of the incorporation of self-spirituality into mainstream organizations. The article’s findings show that the enactment of self-spirituality in organizations often evokes experiences of tension or objection. The basic premises of self-spirituality culture are concerned with the authentic self and the emphasis on the individual’s awareness of his or her body, thoughts, and feelings is, in fact, a manifesto of the legitimate sources of ‘knowing’ at work. This premise is radically different from rationality as a fundamental principle of knowing and organizing. Self-spirituality further proposes an alternative to workplace relationships, which is based on a radical equality. I argue that these perceptions are embodied in gendered power relations—the relationship between the feminine self-spirituality and the masculine secular organizations. Two main modes of incorporation of self-spirituality into organizations were identified: the ‘domesticated masculine mode of incorporation’, which is presented as a ‘joining force’ in achieving main organizational values, and the ‘feminine’ modes of the incorporation of self-spirituality, which presents a revolutionary alternative to organizations. As for the viability of these modes of incorporation for creating change, self-spirituality in its domesticated masculine mode of incorporation appears to align itself with organizations public domain. In contrast to this, the two ‘feminine’ modes of incorporation create the possibility for self-spirituality to be lived by individuals as an ‘individual wisdom’. The study contributes to organization research by identifying ways in which radical alternatives may be incorporated into organizations.

Group Pilates classes in commercial fitness gyms are among the most common forms of mindful fitness in Warsaw. The instructors teaching these classes often correct the participant’s posture by touching them. While academic publications often critique fitness as a disciplinary practice, much fewer studies analyse touch understood as one of disciplinary techniques. Similarly, little is known about the experiences of fitness culture participants who encounter instrumental touch during Pilates classes. This qualitative research project analyses how Michel Foucault’s concept of anatomo-political power intersects with instrumental touch applied during Pilates classes to study how touch is used to train fitness bodies and how instructors and other participants of Pilates sessions participate in power relations. The article considers the value of instrumental touch in the context of relations between instructors and their clients.

The problem studied was how the application of the CTL model could improve the ability to describe a fable in Class VIII-6 of SMPN 2 Peusangan. This study aimed to improve the ability to describe a fable in the class through the CTL model. The benefit of this research included improving fable describing ability on Class VIII-6 students of SMP Negeri 2 Peusangan through the application of the CTL model. The approaches used in this study were the qualitative research and the Class Action Research (PTK). Data collected in the study came from the pre-test and post test, observation, interviews, and field notes. The results showed that the implementation of narrative essay writing with the CTL approach could increase the activities of teachers and students. The results of observations of the teachers and students activities in the implementation of the cycle I action obtained and average percentage of 80.4%. However, in terms of the results, the implementation of the first cycle of action had not been successful because the students obtained the value of ≥ 65 were 68.6%, with 56% of class completeness. Thus, the researcher conducted a repetition cycle. The results of observations of teachers and students in the second cycle of action earned the average percentage of 84.2%, and reached 88% of classical completeness. Moreover, in terms of the results, the implementation of the second cycle showed that teaching narrative essay writing by applying the CTL model could improve students' writing on the fable describing materials. This can be seen from the percentage of the students who received ≥ 65 classically were 88%, with the class average of 84.2. Therefore, the CTL model used could increase the activities of teachers and students in fable describing in Class VIII-6 students of SMP Negeri 2 Peusangan, Bireuen district. Kata Kunci: CTL, Fabel.
