This study aims at identifying and describing the process of Word Formation in The Oprah Winfrey talkshow . This is qualitative research since the data were collected in the form of word not in number. The data is collected through by taking notes then underlining the data concerning word formation from the talkshow’s transcript. The instrument of this research were, researcher herself, and the talkshow transcript. The data were analyzed by following the steps of Miles and Huberman (1994:10-11) procedur such as data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verivication. The result shows that the process of word formation in The Oprah Winfrey’s talkshow contained derivation and compounding. The example of derivation are the words reader, producer, and homeless, and the example of compounding such as standout, moreover, and outside. The derivation process is mostly used rather than the compounding. It is suggested to the coming researcher to do the analysis of word formation process in another types of word formation. Keywords: Word Formation, The Oprah Winfrey Talkshow, Derivation, Compounding.

This study aims at describing the process of word-formation used on messaging applications found in the Play Store. This is descriptive qualitative research. The data are messaging applications written in English and in the form of words. To collect the data, the researchers use observation. The analysis data consists of three steps namely data reduction, data display, and verification. There are 56 data found. There are 6 types of word formations; Affixation (4 data), compounding (15 data), blending (4 data), coinage (8 data), clipping (4 data), reduplication (1 data). However, there are 20 messaging applications that cannot be classified into the type of word formation such as Path, Line, Lemon, etc. They are simple words that have already existed in English and have been used in everyday communication. Meanwhile, nowadays they are used as a name of messaging applications and have different meanings as the real meaning. The suffixes used in the affixation process are –er, -ous, -ster. There are 6 formations of compounding used in the messaging application such as N+N, V+V, N+V, V+N, Adv. + Prep. There are 3 ways of blending process such as taking the whole part of the first word and taking the first syllable of the second, taking the first syllable of the first word and taking the whole part of the second word, taking two syllables from the front part of the first word and taking the last syllable of the second word. Coinage consists of the name of the company and the name of the product. There are two types of clipping found namely fore-clipping and back-clipping. Reduplication happens when there is a copying of the partial part of the word. Apparently, there are morphological processes used in life such as word formation to name the messaging application.

One of the processes of word formation is reduplication which words or morphemes are repeated. This study focuses on reduplication in Jamee language. This descriptive qualitative study aims at finding out forms of reduplication and the meaning contained in the reduplication in Jamee. The data were collected through ethnographic interview by recording ten native speakers of the Jamee language who live in Labuhanhaji sub-district, South Aceh. They were chosen through purposive sampling. A total of 261 reduplication words were obtained during the interviews, and they were analysed using three stages; data reduction, data display and data verification. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that there are four types of reduplication in the Jamee language: full reduplication, partial reduplication, lexicalized reduplication, and affixed reduplication. The study also shows that reduplication in Jamee language can be in the forms of verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and pronominals. Despite previous studies show that there is no infix in the Jamee language, hence it does occur in this study even though it is rarely used in this language. It is assumed that it may have come into the language through the borrowing from Bahasa Indonesia.

This paper discusses word formation in Arabic through inlectional and derivational processes. Inlection is a morphological process of afixation that creates different forms of the word without changing the word category. Derivation is a morphological process which changes the form of the word and also changes the word category. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a synchronic time range. In other words, the inlectional and derivational word formation processes will be described as they are. The data were taken from an Arabic textbook for nonarabic students called “Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk” (2007). The result shows that the inlection process in the formation of Arabic words is intended to mark the grammatical concepts of tenses, mood, diathesis, transitive, gender, and number in verb category, meanwhile in other categories such as noun, adjective, and particle, inlection is intended to mark the grammatical concepts of gender, number, and case. The derivational word formation process in Arabic is conducted in two ways, namely (1) internal changes and (2) afixations. Internal changes in the derivational process were carried out by changing the basic form into certain patterns through horizontal conjugation techniques (tashrif istilahy), namely by changing internal stem vowels, while afixations in the derivation process are conducted by adding afixes to the basic form, such as preixes or conixes. The derivation process in Arabic is intended to form derivation of nouns from verbs, verbs from nouns, and verbs from adjectives.
