Fruit waste can be a good source of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) because it contains macro and micronutrients needed by plants. This study aims to determine the type and concentration of LOF for the growth and yield of leek (Allium fistulosum, L.). This research was conducted from June to August 2019, in Pematang Gubernur, Muara Bangkahulu, Bengkulu City, Indonesia. Treatment consist of types of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) which were cow manure (CM) and guava waste (GW) at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Experimental treatment included; without LOF, CM LOF (25%), CM LOF (50%), CM LOF (75%), GW LOF (25%), GW LOF (50%), GW LOF (75%), CM LOF + GW LOF (25%), CM LOF + GW LOF (50%) and CM LOF + GW LOF (75%). The study used a completely randomized design (CRD), one factor, repeated five times. Differences in LOF concentration and source significantly affected the number of leaves and tiller diameter. Nonetheless, it did not affect the number of tillers, plant height, and fresh weight. Cow manure liquid organic fertilizer at a 50 % concentration raised the number of leaves by 35 %, whereas guava waste increased the leaves numbers by 25%. With the application of guava waste liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 75%, so the number of tillers increased by 23%.

[STIMULATION EFFECTS OF BIOURINE CONCENTRATION AND THE STEM SEGMENT OF CUTTINGS ON  GROWTH OF TEA (Camellia sinensis) SEEDLINGS]. Tea seedlings can be prepared by the stem segment cutting and provide treatment to stimulate the growth of cuttings. This study aims to determine the optimal tea seedlings growth from different material of stem segment and biourine concentration. The experiment was conducted in February to June 2020 at PT. Sarana Mandiri Mukti Kelurahan Tangsi Baru, Kabawetan District, Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu Province. This research uses factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor, biourine concentration consisting of 5 levels including 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. The second factor, the stem segment of cuttings consisting of 3, 4, and 5 segments. The treatment was repeated 3 times, with 5 plants sample in each treatment. There was totally  225 plants. The results showed that biourine concentration of 100% has significantly different from the variable roots number and root length. The stem segment of the tea cuttings has no significantly difference  effect on all variables. The interaction between biourine concentration and stem segment of the tea cuttings has significantly different in variables of shoot length and seedlings fresh weight. The optimum growth of tea seedling was obtained in stem cutting of 3 segment and application of biourine concentration of 100%.

The present study aimed to evaluate the use of the babassu decomposed stem under different proportions in substrate composition for the vegetative propagation of Euphorbia splendens. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse and we used a completely randomized design with six treatments and four repetitions. Six types of substrates were formulated using a mixture of babassu decomposed stem (BDS) and soil (SL) in the proportions of 100% SL, 20:80 % BDS:SL, 40:60 %, BDS:SL, 60:40 % BDS:SL, 80:20 % BDS:SL and 100 % BDS. The seedlings were evaluated at 45 days after cutting by measuring the diameter of the longest shoot, number of leaves, number of shoots, root length, root volume, largest shoot length, fresh weight of the aerial part, root fresh weight, dry weight of the aerial part, and root dry weight. The treatments that presented normality and homoscedasticity were submitted to simple linear regression analysis. The proportion of the substrate of 20: 80% BDS: SL has a greater length of the largest shoot about the substrate 80:20% BDS: SL. The diameter of the largest sprout, the number of leaves, and the root length decreased due to the increase in the proportion of babassu decomposed stem in the substrates. The production of seedlings using cuttings of Euphorbia splendens is facilitated by the fact that it is a species with easy rooting, therefore, it is not necessary to use substrates with proportions of babassu decomposed stem and soil for its vegetative propagation.

ABSTRACT Cauliflower is a brassica produced and consumed in Brazil, whose cultivation depends on the adequate supply of water and nutrients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation depths and nitrogen doses on the production components and water yield of cauliflower hybrid Barcelona CMS. The treatments consisted of five irrigation water depths (0, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of the crop evapotranspiration) combined with five nitrogen doses (0, 75, 150, 300 and 450 kg ha-1). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with a split-plot arrangement. The effects of these factors were evaluated using the response surface methodology. The water yield of the crop decreases with increasing irrigation water depth; therefore, the yield is higher when water replenishment is lower than the recommended. The highest estimated total inflorescence yield is 24,547.80 kg ha-1, with a inflorescence mean diameter of 19.60 cm, a inflorescence mean height of 12.25 cm, and an inflorescence fresh weight of 858.90 g plant-1, obtained with an irrigation water depth equivalent to 132.09% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and a nitrogen dose of 450 kg ha-1. The highest inflorescence diameter and height are obtained with an irrigation depth equivalent to 128.70 and 108.20% of ETc, respectively, and a nitrogen dose of 450 kg ha-1. Therefore, the best productivity response of the Barcelona CMS cauliflower hybrid can be obtained using an irrigation depth greater than the crop evapotranspiration, regardless of the nitrogen doses.

ABSTRACT   This research aimed to determine the effects of compost applications on ex-mining lands by using chinese cabbage as indicator. The experiments were conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture greenhouse and the soil and compost analysis were done at the Soil Chemistry and Fertility Laboratory for a duration of two months. The research employed a Completely Randomized Design method with 5 treatments repeated 3 times to get 15 experimental units. The analysis on ex-mining soil revealed that it contained only trace amounts of soil nutrients N, P, and K. The laboratory analysis on the compost sample resulted in a C/N ratio of 11.87 which suggested that the compost was mature and ready to be used. The Analysis of Variance on research data showed that compost applications did not affect plant height between treatments at each weekly observation, and similarly did not affect leaf quantity and fresh weight at harvest time.  However, the research found that the compost applications tended to improve plant height, leaf quantity, and fresh weight of plants at harvest time.  The minimal effect of compost applications between treatments suggested that the plants did not utilized the nutrients supplied by the compost in their early stages of development.  Moreover, it was also suspected that the compost applications had not been sufficient in supplying the soil nutrients needed by the plants to ensure proper growth which ultimately affected the fresh weight of the plants at harvest time. Keywords: compost, ex-mining land

ABSTRACT: This study aimed at evaluating the effects of different desiccation periods of Urochloa decumbens on the initial development of Eucalyptus urograndis (clone C-219H). The experiment was conducted in 100 liter concrete boxes, previously filled with Dark-Red Latosol. U. decumbens was sown in all plots, except for the control sample without covering. After 95 days from sowing, the herbicide glyphosate (dose of 1,424 g a.e. ha-1) was sprayed at intervals of 0 (Apply-Plant), 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days before eucalyptus planting, plus a control sample without covering, totaling seven treatments. A completely randomized design with six replications was used. Eucalyptus plants were evaluated 30, 60 and 90 days after planting (DAP), when the height of the plants and the diameter of the stem were determined. At the end of the experimental period (90 DAP), the leaf area and the dry matter of leaves and stem were measured. It is possible to conclude that the Apply-Plant modality was harmful to some of the eucalyptus characteristics (E. urograndis - C-219H), while planting the seedlings in periods over 14 days after the desiccation of U. decumbens plants promoted a better development of the culture.

<p>Mungbean is one of the strategic annual food crops that needed by Indonesian people because of the high protein and minerals. Production of mungbean in Indonesia always decreases. Cultural improvements are needed to increase productivity i.e by appropriate fertilization and plant density. The experiment objective was to find out the optimum dosage of organic fertilizer and plant density for the growth and yield of mungbean. The experiment was carried out using factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor treatments were organic fertilizer which consisted of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 ton ha-1, while the second-factor treatments were planted density which consisted of 1 and 2 plants in the hole. Organic fertilizer of 5 ton ha-1 gave the best result for plant height, number of branches, flowering age, number of pods, fresh weight and dried straw, weight of 100 seeds, number and weight of seeds, small of seeds number and P nutrient uptake of the plant. The 2 plants per hole gave the best result for branches number, pods number and number of small seeds. Application of 5 ton ha-1 organic fertilizer and 1 plant per hole gave better yield. No interaction of organic fertilizer and plant density to mungbean growth and yield.</p>
