The study aimed to identify the trends of Islamic education teachers in the Dhofar Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman towards teaching the topics of the Islamic Faith. The study adopted the qualitative approach using interviews within focus groups, on a sample consisting of (14) teachers, and through analyzing the data, the teachers ’attitudes were classified into four axes: what is related to the topics of the Islamic faith, and what is related to the methods of teaching the Islamic faith and its teaching aids, and what is related to the teacher, and what is related to the student, The results showed that most of the teachers ’attitudes were not positive towards teaching the Islamic Faith in all axes.

This study aims to analyze the understanding of the curriculum in a post-critical perspective by students of the Elementary School of the Municipality of Vitória-ES, emphasizing the challenge of the school, in its constitution process in relation to the social construction and valorization of culture, capable of guide pedagogical practices to recognize the differences present in the school context. It was intended, by means of an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, to discuss thematic content of the post-critical curriculum, using focus groups data collection and analysis of official school documents. We conclude that the reproduction of differences happens implicitly, distancing what is proposed in school documents and what is performed inside the classrooms by teachers.

In the current millennial era, many young Muslim generations are exposed to the millennial effect, which has an impact on emerging behavior. The purpose of this study was to describe an integrated approach as an alternative medium for Islamic education innovation. This research is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used were observation, documentation, and interview. The data were analyzed using Miles Huberman and Saldana's stages of data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the integrated approach implemented at SMP IT Salman Al-Farizi Yogyakarta was able to be an alternative media for Islamic education innovation in the millennial era. This integrated approach makes the Islamic faith as its foundation, it also enables teachers to create students who have Islamic personalities, smart, and skillful in mastering science and technology.

Although still little-known, glamping has become a nature-based tourism option for people who want a higher level of comfort. The offer of this type of accommodation is growing, namely in Portugal, but there are still few studies that address the motivations and other relevant factors explaining its adoption or refusal by consumers. The present study applied a qualitative approach aimed at exploring consumers’ motivations or obstacles for choosing glamping, and their perceptions as tourists on the differences between glamping and camping. Data were collected through the conduction of focus groups held in 2017 and content analysis techniques for contextualized interpretations were used. The most important motivational driver to go glamping is the direct contact with nature. Glamour, comfort, privacy and a different experience are also important aspects that consumers appreciate. Inversely, the main obstacles are the cost, the limited offer, the lack of knowledge, and the non-authenticity, compared to camping, of the offer.

This study investigates the status and nature of knowledge sharing among industrial enterprises in the Sultanate of Oman in terms of: identifying the motives of industrial enterprises in sharing or not sharing knowledge, identifying the factors that influence knowledge sharing between industrial enterprises, and suggesting a model example for knowledge sharing among industrial enterprises in Oman. The data collected through qualitative approach consists of 23 face-to-face interviews with managers from different industrial enterprises, and two focus groups. The first focus group is conducted with managers from all industrial enterprises, and the second one is conducted with managers from Nizwa industrial Estate. The most important results of the study include: most of the managers of Omani industrial enterprises lack the awareness of the concept of knowledge sharing. There is an internal knowledge sharing system at the level of units and departments within a single institution. The industrial enterprises lack specialized information centers that meet the needs of their employees, which then downgrade the potential of interactive and knowledge-sharing environment. The study proposes two model examples for knowledge sharing among Industrial enterprises of Oman: sharing knowledge within a single enterprise (internal); and sharing knowledge within a group of enterprises (external).

This study aims to obtain a description related to the learning of PAI by using ICT and how the impact of the use of ICT on PAI learning systems in the classroom. The research method uses a qualitative approach in the integrated Islamic high school Ummul Quro Bogor, West Java. The results showed that a) there were four stages of using ICT in the learning process, namely; emerging, applying, integrating dan transforming. PAI teachers are already at the integrating stage. In other words, ICT has been integrated into the PAI learning curriculum. b) supporting factors for the use of ICT are the existence of ICT support facilities, the availability of qualified educators, the commitment of the school to implement ICT in every PAI learning. c) Inhibiting factors in the use of ICT are aspects of financing ICT facilities require a large budget. Some elderly teachers have difficulty using ICT in the learning process. Besides, the internet network is unstable. d) The impact of the use of ICT is very significant on PAI learning process. e) the existence of ICT devices not only as a support but already as an important component in the education system. The research led to the recommendation of the need for government support in the form of concern for ICT in terms of policies, facilities, workforce, budget, and organizing training in the use of ICT for PAI teachers to improve their professionalism. Therefore, further research is suggested regarding the effectiveness of the use of ICT in the learning process of PAI.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) prevalence is expected to continue to increase, due to the population ageing. MCI and AD may impact patients’ decision-making capacities, which should be assessed through the disease course. These medical conditions can affect the various areas of decision-making capacity in different ways. Decision-making capacity in healthcare is particularly relevant among this population. Elders often suffer from multimorbidity and are frequently asked to make healthcare decisions, which can vary from consenting a routine diagnostic procedure to decide receiving highly risk treatments.To assess this capacity in elders with MCI or AD, we developed the Healthcare Decision-Making Capacity Assessment Instrument (IACTD-CS - Instrumento de Avaliação da Capacidade de Tomada de Decisão em Cuidados de Saúde). This project is funded by Portuguese national funding agency for science, research and technology, FCT (SFRH/BD/139344/2018). IACTD-CS was developed based on Appelbaum and Grisso four abilities model, literature review and review of international assessment instruments. After IACTD-CS first version development, an exploratory study with focus groups was conducted. This study included focus groups with healthcare professionals and nursing homes’ professionals.The focus groups main goals were: 1) understand the participants perception regarding healthcare decision-making capacity, 2) distinguish relevant aspects of decision-making, 3) discuss the abilities and items included in IACTD-CS and 4) identify new aspects or items to be added to IACTD-CS. A content analysis of the focus groups results, with resource to MAXQDA, was conducted afterwards. This exploratory study allowed to identify professionals’ perceptions on healthcare decision-making and its results were a significant contribute to IACTD-CS development. The proposed communication aims to describe the methodology used and present the results of content analysis.

This study uses a qualitative approach to examine what political and technical leaders of municipalities understand transparency and public information to mean, and what role they believe the different subjects involved (government, opposition, and the public) should have. The websites of 605 Spanish councils with more than 100,000 inhabitants were analysed and three focus groups were held with political and technical leaders from a selection of sample councils. The results show that the technical and political leaders of the councils do not have a clear awareness of their function of management accountability or of the need to apply journalistic criteria to the information they publish, defending with nuances the use of propaganda criteria to focus on the actions of the local government, its information, the lack of space dedicated to public debate and the opposition’s actions. In relation to accountability and citizen participation, they have a negative view of citizens, who they describe as being disengaged. However, they emphasize that internally it is essential to continue improving in terms of the culture of transparency and the public information they provide citizens.

The aim of this paper is to explore the ICT differences in access and use by Muslim in Islamic faith schools, and ICTs’ perceived influence on learning. Our research explores ICT differences in the context of Muslim learners and it is distinctive in adopting the premise that there is a unity in Muslim cultural identity that increasingly transcends ethnicity and gender. As a proxy for our research, we use an Islamic understanding of cultural identity. We defined culture as the deeper level of basic assumptions and beliefs that are shared, operate unconsciously , and that define, in an intuitive way, our selves and the environment. This shares an affinity with an Islamic understanding of humanity and the environment, which is represented by three interrelated dimensions of Fitrah (human nature), khilāfah (vicegerent) and Dīn (religion). These dimensions demonstrate that the teachings of the Qur’ān are integral to cultural and religious identity. It is suggested that the impetus for learning is based on the realisation that pedagogy requires an appreciation by pupils that knowledge is derived from a teacher and experiences. The realisation is of particular importance in the field of Islamic education. The concept of revealed and acquired knowledge being equally accepted in Islamic schools for teaching and learning and this shapes, in turn, cultural identity that may influence ICT difference in access and use. This paper provides an overview of the characteristic features of ICT access, use and difference in the context of Islamic schools. We conclude with some tentative suggestions to support an inclusive approach towards ICT provision.

Purpose Through a literature review, a gap has been identified regarding the role of competition as a driver of social network (SN) usage. This study aims to design to address this gap, seeking motivators for SN usage based on how SN consumption may be related to users’ experience of competition. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of competition in social media usage. Design/methodology/approach The authors used an exploratory qualitative approach, conducting a set of focus groups with young social media users. Data was analyzed with software. Findings Two new drivers for SN use are proposed, namely, competition and collective narrative. Research limitations/implications This is an exploratory study, and it does not seek to generalize results or quantify causal relationships among variables. Practical implications This paper offers SN managers a deeper understanding of key growth drivers for these media. Social implications This research can help society understand and debate the impacts of SNs on users’ lives, providing insights into drivers of excessive usage. Originality/value This paper proposes the following two SN usage drivers yet to be described in the literature: competition and collective narrative.
