This study was conducted to find out the views and attitudes of undergraduate students of Sociology towards research methods as a course in Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria. The sample comprises those 2017/2018 third year undergraduate students of sociology at the institution, who registered and sat for the examination of the course (Soc 301). Data were collected through in-depth interviews; and the data were content analysed (manually). Findings of the study reveal that respondents perceived the course as though complex, technical and stressful but interesting, educative and beneficial. These views were however discovered to be due to the positive attitude respondents have towards the course. While this attitude appears commendable, the university management still needs to pay particular attention to the sustenance of the attitude through further provision of conducive and attractive learning environment as well as appropriate instructional materials, as these will help to impact profoundly on the students learning the course and other courses. Further, research methods teachers need to always make the teaching of the course interesting and practical to stimulate learning. Finally, students at all time need to be diligent and serious with the course so as to become better researchers and good sociologists in future.

<p class="WW-Default">The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible factors inhibiting the university lecturers or professors in Indonesia from publishing their research results in reputable international journals in English. The research used a mixed (quantitative and qualitative) method, employing a national survey and in-depth interviews with selected lecturers and researchers in five different universities in Indonesia (i.e., Bengkulu University, Padang State University, Makasar State University, Unika Atma Jaya University and Mataram University). The results show that three main factors have hindered the lecturers from submitting their articles to reputable international journals: lack of self-confidence on the quality of their own research and article, finding it very difficult and very time consuming to prepare an article in English and no adequate reward for those who can successfully publish in reputable international journals. However, the majority of them have a positive attitude toward international journal publication for their own benefits or for the sake of their institution.<strong><em></em></strong></p>

An exploration and analysis of the processes involved in crafting the institution’s strategic plan, identifying its quality assurance policies, documenting its graduates’ performance in government licensure examinations, description of the processes to ensure sustainability of educational programs, and portray the administration’s fund generation and management mechanisms was made in an effort to create a model for quality education in the University of Eastern Philippines, University Town, Northern Samar. It utilized the descriptive-evaluative method of research with a total of 400 respondents composed of students, faculty members, alumni, community residents, and University officials. Qualitative data were taken from respondents’ answers to open-ended questions, which were then validated through interviews.  Quantitative data on the other hand, were taken from both primary data derived from responses to items in the questionnaire, and secondary data on graduates’ performance in professional examinations. It was revealed that most stakeholders were aware of the institution’s strategic plan, although some were not consulted in the crafting of such an important document.  They aver that policies and guidelines are established, implemented, and strictly adhered to by the administration in its daily operations involving faculty, students, staff, fund generation and management, instruction, research, extension, production, faculty development, and student support services. Although graduates performed consistently well in some government examinations, in the years 2009 – 2014 they performed generally below the national average.  Respondents agree that curricular programs must regularly be updated to conform to minimum standards set by the Commission on Higher Education to ensure sustainability of programs.  For students to be globally relevant and competent, respondents agree to the provision of educationally qualified and competent teaching force, state-of-the-art facilities, modern instructional materials and methods, coupled with good governance and cooperation among stakeholders, are the key ingredients of an ideal quality of education in the University of Eastern Philippines.

<span>This study explores the efficacy of the online social networking site </span><em>Facebook</em><span>, for linking international digital media student cohorts through an e-mentoring scheme. It reports on the 2011 collaboration between the University of Adelaide in Australia, and Penn State University in the United States. Over one semester, twelve postgraduate students in Australia and ten undergraduate students in the United States took part in an online mentor scheme hosted by </span><em>Facebook</em><span>. Students were required to submit work-in-progress imagery each week to a series of galleries within the forum. Postgraduate students from Adelaide mentored the undergraduate students at Penn State, and in turn, staff and associated industry professionals mentored the Adelaide students. Interaction between the two student cohorts was consistently strong throughout the semester, and all parties benefitted from the collaboration. Students from Penn State University were able to receive guidance and critiques from more experienced peers, and responded positively to the continual feedback over the semester. Students from the University of Adelaide received support from three different groups: Penn State staff and associated professionals; local industry professionals and recent graduates; and peers from Penn State. The 2011 scheme highlighted the efficacy of </span><em>Facebook</em><span> as a host site for e-mentoring and strengthened the bond between the two collaborating institutions.</span>

Usage of technology in educational settings is becoming a standard for 21st century’s learners. Flipped classroom presents an entirely new learning environment based on technology for students, thus requiring different research for establishing effective learning and teaching.This paper aimed to explore usability of flipped classroom in higher education from the perspective of students’ experience. The study participants are undergraduate students who are enrolled department of primary education in faculty of education. In study used a mixed-method to answer research questions. Students were post tested on usage of flipped classroom model in the frame of instructional materials attitude. And, focus group interview used to get students’ perceptions. One of the more significant findings to emerge from this study is that students’ attitude toward the flipped classroom were positive. The second major finding was that flipped classroom model is effective on: (1) Instruction and learning environment, (2) Individual changes.

This paper examined perceptions and attitudes of students towards tourism and recreation activities in Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaire. A sample of 100 students was randomly selected from the 8 colleges purposively selected in the University. The number of respondents that were selected from the colleges depended on the population of each college. Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, Education, Engineering and Technology, Institute of Education, Information and Communication Technology, Pure and Applied Sciences and Institute of Distance and E-learning were all selected for the study. The researcher was able to retrieve 85 copies of questionnaire from the 100 copies administered. It was revealed that Kwara State University students were willing to engage in tourism and recreation activities. Many of the students were constrained to participate in stressing that their studies give opportunity for them to engage in tourism and recreation activities. It was concluded that the student’s perceptions and attitudes towards tourism and recreation activities is relatively good. Therefore, it was recommended that, the school must create avenue for students to engage and involve more in tourism and recreation activities and this could be done by creating more sport centres and other recreational activities within the campus. The school should create more tourism centres in order to boost student’s involvement in recreation and tourism activities in the school. The school management should ensure that they mandate the students to engage in activities that could help to fresh up their brains.

This article discusses the results of a field study conducted in 2019 at Tomsk State University (TSU) and Tyumen State University (TyumSU). The purpose of the study is to investigate the motivations behind educators’ choice of their profession and the aspects they say as its advantages and disadvantages. Methodologically, the study is based on 43 in-depth interviews with lecturers of TSU and TyumSU. These universities are located in Siberian cities and are among the group of the leading higher education institutions in Russia. The study shows that the lecturers associate the benefits of work at the university with the opportunities provided by the ‘5-100 Project’ to attain the world standards; good working conditions; prestige of work at a reputable university; stability of university employment; feeling of belonging to the academic; and so on. Most educators are dissatisfied with such aspects of university work as bureaucratization; redundancies; short-term contracts; the lack of transparency and inefficiency in funds distribution; and irregular working hours. We found that despite some divergence of views, the faculty of the TSU and TyumSU share a lot of opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of university work. Thus, the cases of the two Siberian universities provide us with the insights into a larger picture of the Russian system of higher education. These findings can be useful for HR services of universities for recruiting and retaining personnel.

This study investigated the nature of relationship between turnover intention and financial rewards.Turnover intention can be linked to a situation where motivators are not put in place to get the best out of workers.Simple random sampling techniques was used to select 400 staff (male, n=250, female, n=150) of Lagos State University. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from the participants using Pay Satisfaction Scale (PSS) adapted from the Spector’s Job Satisfaction Scale and the Turnover Intention Scale (TIS) from Mobley, Horner, and Hollingsworth (1978).Pearson’s Product Moment correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data gotten from the participants. One hypothesis was tested and it was found that there is a significant positive relationship between turnover intention and financial rewards.This study recommends that pay satisfaction of workers should be an uttermost concern for the university management so as to reduce staff turnover intentions.

The purpose of this study is to identify the infuence of attitude, self-effcacy, and motivation on leisure time physical activity and sport participation among students in the Malaysia public universities. The study sample comprised of 551 male and 801 female undergraduates who were selected by means of random cluster sampling. Questionnaires were utilized to collect data. The results of the study showed that there were positive correlations among leisure attitude, motivation, self-effcacy and leisure time physical activity and sport participation among undergraduate students. The results also revealed that motivation and self-effcacy were the best predictors of leisure time physical activity and sport participation. This study suggests that in the effort to encourage the student’s leisure time physical activity and sport participation and involvement, the university management should plan and organize programmes to develop positive attitude among students, increase their self- effcacy and motivation level of physical activity and sport participation.

This study investigated the perceptions of undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, of the usefulness and challenges associated with computer-based testing. The population for the study consisted of undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin. According to the data collected from the Directorate of Academic Planning at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, the population of undergraduate students for the 2017/2018 academic session was 43 983. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample. A questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. The findings from the study showed that using a web-based assessment system contributed positively to the undergraduate students’ academic achievements while the majority of them preferred taking all their exams with the web-based assessment system. The findings further revealed that to the undergraduate students, CBT is an interesting technique in examinations and makes the taking of examinations easier. Also, there is high level of competence among undergraduate students with regard to possession of the required skills for CBT examinations. Delays in the commencement of the exams, power failures at the CBT centre and overcrowding are major challenges encountered by the students taking CBT examinations. One of the study recommendations was that the university management should endeavour to eliminate the delays in the commencement of tests by providing assessment timetables which should be strictly adhered to.

Abstract: The present study aims to study the University of Sharjah students’ perceptions and attitudes about the use of YouTube in learning French language. It also attempts to shed light on the UOS students’ preferred types of YouTube videos and their usefulness in learning French language. A purposive questionnaire was designed and sent out to 69 undergraduate students from different disciplines who were enrolled in the French language course. The findings of this study showed that there is a significant trend in the overall use of YouTube for French language learning by the UOS students from different disciplines, constituting 64% of the respondents. The study also demonstrated that videos available on YouTube can be useful for language learning purposes. 49% of the respondents reported improvement in their French language skills (Grammar, Vocabulary, and Pronunciation) and 57% of the respondents believed that YouTube videos enable them to complete study tasks more quickly. Videos of Automobiles, pets & animals, sports and news were among the most preferred categories of videos watched by the respondents. The data was analyzed based on descriptive analysis using the SPSS Software. The findings of this study can further motivate university language educators to make effective use of YouTube videos in classroom to reinforce the students’ language acquisition skills.
