This article deals with the research of journalistic, publicistic and editorial activities of F. Dudkо. A considerable amount of the scholarship has been devoted to the study of his literary heritage. However, journalistic, publicistic and editorial activities remain out of the scholarly discourse and await the rigorous and unbiased research. This situation is due, first of all, to the fact that many important facts of his collaboration with the media are recorded only in the press. The article reproduces a linear biography of F. Dudkо. The little-known fragments of his life and activities during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917―1921s and the 1920—30s are introduced into the scholarship. The article’s findings show that F. Dudko’s publications were published under the pseudonym of Did Yakiv in the «Vidrodzhennia» newspaper. We have elucidated the facts of F. Dudkо’s collaboration with newspapers and magazines «Vidrodzhennia», «Zhyttia i Znannia», «Nazustrich», «Nash Prapor», «Nashe Slovo», «Nedilia», «Rada», «Ukraiina», «Ukrainskyi Holos» and others as well as the participating in the creation of the «Izhak» magazine, editing of «Horokhivski Visti», «Kovelske Slovo» and others. More than 190 of his journalistic texts have been identified and introduced into scholarly circulation. Their bibliographic checklist has been compiled. The article analyzes the problematic-thematic spectrum and genre palette of the journalistic heritage of F. Dudkо. It is highlighted that he mainly used such an artistic and journalistic genre as a feuilleton. He raised the problems of the absence of Ukraine in the information space of Europe. Additionally, F. Dudko stressed the importance of such Ukrainian mass media that would promote the idea of Ukrainian statehood, as well as honestly inform abroad about the developments in Ukraine. He highlighted the dominance of the Russian and Ukrainianlanguage anti-Ukrainian press. The journalist also drew attention to the issues of quality of written language, the culture of proper quoting texts of other authors (academic integrity) and so on. We conclude that F. Dudko left an invaluable journalistic and publicistic legacy, which yet requires its rigorous bibliography, systematization and rethinking. Keywords: Fedir Dudko, the Ukrainian press, journalistic and editorial activities.

Over the past few decades the mass media have increasingly shaped public awareness. For many people, television, the radio, or the press are the only sources for archaeological topics and it is essential, therefore, to be able to collaborate with the world of journalism. It is not only sensational news stories that have an opportunity of being covered by the media, but also serious issues – provided that they are well told. Communicating scientific results to an audience outside one's own specialist subject is, however, not only a question of good will, but also of skill. This article focuses on how to get the attention of the mass media, how to exert influence on the quality of a newspaper article, radio or film, and how to communicate what is really important. It provides an overview of public and media relations and tries to give some helpful suggestions.

The purpose of this article is to analyse the media relations activities by Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), related to crisis "Tragedi Diksar Mapala UII". This incident lead to crisis because it is unpredictable, happen suddenly, disturb the organizational activities, and make the organization's image being at risk. Media relations is one important activites in crisis management. It is because mass media could affect the public perception toward an organization. In crisis situation, perception could be stronger than the fact. The limitation of media relations in this article are information subsidies. Information subsidies consist of : (1) the quality of news sources that provided by the organization, and (2) how organization facilitate the news gathering process by the media. The data for this article is being collected from interview with journalist from the mass media in Yogyakarta. The results are media want the top management of the universities as the news sources. The information that being provided by public relations is not enough. The university also lack of quickness and lack of openess.

What is journalism? How does it exist and why? How does journalism define itself and in what ways can we make use of looking theoretically at the practice of it? These were the central themes of our workshop; Theoretical Models as Mass Media Practice held at the ‘Minding the Gap’ conference at Reuters Institute in May 2007, from which this collection of papers has been selected. As with the other workshops during the conference, the majority of our panellists were themselves once media practitioners. It is my opinion that this background and inside knowledge of the field in itself can provide an exceptional framework for understanding the workings of mass media while helping the press reflect over these workings too. In a time of change for the journalistic profession, when media convergence is growing; the media is marked by deregulation and fewer journalists are being asked to do more, there is an increased need for the profession to get involved in debating the core values of its existence.

Abstract :The mass media had great influence in conveying a message against their common. The values of the message was set out in the text and images are presented by the media. The message may contain meaning positive and inspiring in describing events, so that is not interfere psychological of audience.  In the context of photojournalism, the expression that the power of the image can be far beyond the message conveyed through text. Because the meaning of the message, the essence of photojournalism must pay attention to the rules of journalism were set in the Press Law and the Code of Ethics of Journalism. An understanding of the ethics of photojournalism is not only for internal media, but also to a audience. Thus, the public can judge the mindset of media displaying photographic work does pay attention to aesthetic aspects or ignore the rules of journalism. Keywords: Photojournalism, Press Law, the Code of Ethics Journalism, the Power of Image

Since the Aum Shinrikyôô affair of 1995, the Japanese authorities have been quick to demonstrate that they are firmly in control in situations involving religious groups that espouse millennial ideas, or other groups rumored to be acting against social norms. In April 2003 the Japanese mass media began reporting intensely on a virtually unknown new religious movement named Pana Wave. A massive police investigation was launched immediately on the premise that the group appeared to resemble Aum Shinrikyôô in its early days. Although the press coverage and police involvement again raised the public's fears over dangerous religious groups, the media dropped the story quickly after the investigation yielded little more than vehicle violations. The Pana Wave affair represents a post-Aum Shinrikyôô moral panic in which the reaction to the perceived threat far outweighed the reality of the situation.

Urban society is a society that always tries to improve its quality of life and is open to receiving influences from outside, especially those from the media. The media and the use of information technology in all fields significantly increases the quality of people’s lives. Film as a part of media can reach various groups, in terms of age, education, socio-economic status, cultural background, and religion. Film becomes a strategic media for transforming ideas. It is one of the commodification products that is popular among the people. It is important to monitor the culture of media consumption in urban society from the films. This study aimed at finding out how far films can affect human life. The films that were sampled were two Indonesian films. The problem was solved using questionnaires. The sample community was the community living in the city of Jakarta. The results of the study showed that the majority of respondents (80%) stated that they were watching films not just for entertainment but also to gain insight. Films are produced not only for profit orientation but can also be used for educational purposes. Keywords: culture of mass media consumption, urban society, films

This article is describing the main genre forms used in the local periodicals in the 1930s. It talks about both the journalistic genres themselves (notes, editorials, reports), and the genres of business communication (orders, decisions, bylaws, etc.) that played a signifi cant role in the press of those years. The article also considers the genres of "letters" (in its genre variations), the "heroic list" and the "black list". The article analyses the factors that infl uenced creation of the genre palette of the media, including the perception of journalism as means of propaganda, the need to solve production tasks facing collective farms, state farms and machine and tractor stations, insuffi cient journalistic skills of editorial staff. The research is based on local periodicals of the Amur Region in 1934.

Universities agree that there is a need to educate students about academic integrity and that the quality of the awards they confer on their students is compromised if students gain credit for work where breaches of academic integrity have been overlooked or not dealt with in a consistent matter. This paper describes how one university developed a new institutional framework and accompanying policy document in order to simplify the processes, ensure that students receive educational assistance when required and respond to the dissatisfaction of academic staff with the existing policy and processes. The context for these changes included perceptions in the press that the number of cases of academic misconduct were increasing and that there is an ever-increasing reliance on electronic sources of information. The development of the institutional framework and the related policy are analysed using a policy cycle model and conclusions are drawn about the success of the policy implementation based on practice aligning with policy.

The article gives the rationale for the necessity of developing a theoretical and methodological basis of mass media theory and up-dating its research tools. It is shown that the main direction of further research should be its mathematization and software-based algorithm development of models for managing information flows. It is established that in order to implement this idea it is necessary to apply a process approach to mass media system research as solutions based on the process approach significantly increase the potential for planning and forecasting changes in the media system, as well as forming effective models of information flows management. In the framework of the process approach, mass information activities are considered as processes that result in creating an information product meeting the needs of a particular consumer or a group of consumers. By integrating all the information product processes that take place in media organizations, a process-type media system that in general results in meeting information needs of the society relevant to peoples interests, preferences and requests is formed. In order to study the system, the authors highlight its most important properties such as integrity, nonadditivity and focus. It is demonstrated that it is impossible to apply conventional mathematical methods and models in the conditions of transient influence of external factors and nonlinear interrelations between processes. The authors prove that revealed interrelations can be successfully visualized by means of cognitive mapping. The authors suggest а cognitive map for evaluation of mass media performance, where a target concept is the level of awareness of the population that provides them with landmarks to guide themselves in the world while governing concepts are the quantity demanded and supplied and the quality of information products. At the same time, it is specified that the quality of mass media products is determined by mass media accessibility, promptness, reliability and feedback from consumers. The proposed cognitive map is formalized by means of fuzzy information about concepts and power of their influence, which is presented in the form of a knowledge database according to fuzzy logic rules. Use of the given knowledge database allows to develop an algorithm for evaluating performance of the media system with the help of MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Toolbox, which provides an opportunity to set performance targets and thus to give different scenarios of information flows management.
