During the growth of silkworm larvae study, also was done a research which aimed to determine the chemical composition and the digestibility of mulberry leaves from a Romanian Selected Hybrid. The results showed that advancing in the vegetation stage at the same time with different periods of the silkworm larvaes growth, the mulberry leaves experience an aging process being noticed through its quality decreasing from chemical composition point of view. So, for example, the CP which was in average 20.780.627% (from DM), decreased during the study with 2.87%; while the CF had an average of 18.100.271%, (from DM) increased with 1.47%. Accordingly with this, to the majority of nutrients from mulberry leaves, except the crude fiber was noticed a continuous digestibility decreasing throughout larval growth period. The nutrients digestibility from the leaves registered a value of 58.45%.

During the growth of silkworm larvae study, also was done a research which aimed to determine the chemical composition and the digestibility of mulberry leaves from a Japanese variety, Kokuso 21. The results showed that advancing in the vegetation stage at the same time with different periods of the silkworm larvaes growth, the mulberry leaves experience an aging process being noticed through its quality decreasing from chemical composition point of view. Accordingly, with this, to the majority of nutrients from mulberry leaves, except the crude fiber was noticed a continuous digestibility decreasing throughout larval growth period So, for example, digestibility of crude protein decreased gradually throughout the studied period, with 27.11%, respectively from 84.42% at the first chemical determination to 61.53% at the last one. The nutrients digestibility from the leaves registered in average a value of 55.87%.

During the growth of silkworm larvae study, also was done a research which aimed to determine the chemical composition and the digestibility of mulberry leaves from a Romanian variety, Eforie. The results showed that advancing in the vegetation stage at the same time with different periods of the silkworm larvaes growth, the mulberry leaves experience an aging process being noticed through its quality decreasing from chemical composition point of view. So, for example, the CP which was in average 20.980.670% (from DM), decreased during the study with 3.11%; while the CF had an average of 17.910.434%, (from DM) increased with 2.29%. Accordingly, with this, the majority of nutrients from mulberry leaves, excepting cellulose, had an increasing of digestibility with 33.94%. It was noticed a continuous digestibility decreasing during the growth period for the CP with 22.79% and with 33.53% for NFE. The nutrients digestibility from the leaves registered a value of 59.20%.

In order to assess how efficient is the use of mulberry leaf by the Bombyx mori Baneasa Super larvae hybrid, some determinations were made regarding the nutritional value and digestibility of the worm leaf administered as food, during a series of summer growth. The results showed that ongoing vegetation and growth process of this hybrid, the Mulberry leaves suffer an aging phenomenon, revealed by diminishing its chemical composition quality. According to this, most of the nutritional substances from mulberry leaves, except cellulose, manifest a continuous decline during the growth period. The digestibility of these nutritional components registered a value of 56.41%, the crude energy value was 4209 kcal/kg dry substance, and digestive energy was 2173 kcal/kg (DS), while the metabolic energy was 2044-2007 kcal/kg (DS). The efficiency of converting ingestion into silk had a value of 9.30% and the digestion was 15.76%. Keywords: leaves, mulberry, larvae, energy, use

In recent years, various mulberry leaf dishes have gradually gained in popularity. The harvesting period of mulberry leaves and the preparation of dried samples are critical for the retention of flavonoid content and activity. In this study, changes in flavonoid levels in mulberry leaves during their growth period (3–6 months), and the effects of four different drying methods [sun drying (SD), air drying (AD), oven drying (OD), and freeze drying (FD)] on flavonoid accumulation and antioxidant capacity were determined. The results showed that mulberry leaves grown for 6 months had higher levels of flavonoids, and different drying methods could significantly affect the flavonoid levels and antioxidant capacity of the leaves. Air drying and FD were the best methods in terms of retaining the antioxidant activity of flavonoids, although AD had lower operating costs than FD in the production process. Therefore, to obtain a high flavonoid content and maximum antioxidant activity, AD is recommended for mulberry leaves.

The reciprocal interaction between the accommodation and pupil control systems of the human eye is examined from a theoretical point of view. The system, which is responsible for maintaining pupil diameter at a value which is a compromise between conflicting requirements, is represented by a control model, and is considered in terms of the concept of a performance index.

The objective of this study was to evaluate, from a technological and nutritional point of view, the chemical composition and functional properties of the industrial winemaking by-products, namely skins, stems and lees. The chemical and physical characteristics, as well as the functional properties (fat and water retention and swelling capacity, antioxidant capacity, and their prebiotic effect), of the dietary fibre of these by-products were studied. The results showed that the skins, stems, and lees are rich in fibre, with the stem fibre containing the highest amounts of non-extractable polyphenols attached to polysaccharides with high antioxidant activity and prebiotic effect. Lee fibre had the highest water retention capacity and oil retention capacity. The results reveal that winemaking by-products could be used as a source of dietary fibre with functional characteristics for food applications.

AbstractIntegrated economic models have become popular for assessing climate change. In this paper we show how these methods can be used to assess the impact of a discard ban in a fishery. We state that a discard ban can be understood as a confiscatory tax equivalent to a value-added tax. Under this framework, we show that a discard ban improves the sustainability of the fishery in the short run and increases economic welfare in the long run. In particular, we show that consumption, capital and wages show an initial decrease just after the implementation of the discard ban then recover after some periods to reach their steady-sate values, which are 16–20% higher than the initial values, depending on the valuation of the landed discards. The discard ban also improves biological variables, increasing landings by 14% and reducing discards by 29% on the initial figures. These patterns highlight the two channels through which discard bans affect a fishery: the tax channel, which shows that the confiscation of landed discards reduces the incentive to invest in the fishery; and the productivity channel, which increases the abundance of the stock. Thus, during the first few years after the implementation of a discard ban, the negative effect from the tax channel dominates the positive effect from the productivity channel, because the stock needs time to recover. Once stock abundance improves, the productivity channel dominates the tax channel and the economic variables rise above their initial levels. Our results also show that a landed discards valorisation policy is optimal from the social welfare point of view provided that incentives to increase discards are not created.

The blue honeysuckle is the earliest ripening berry, which ripens 7–10 days earlier than the garden strawber-ries under the conditions of Sakhalin's climate. It is resistant to lower fungi and parasites and can be cultivat-ed without pesticides. Currently, many honeysuckle varieties with fruits of different morphologies and chemical composition have been bred. We analyzed values of economically valuable indicators and chemical composition in 14 varieties of honeysuckle, which grow in the monsoon climate of Sakhalin. To assess the most productive variety, the values of each character were presented as percentage of the maximum for each indicator. Knowing the total values of characters under investigation made it possible to choose the best va-rieties, from authors` point of view, to grow in the household gardens in the monsoon climate of Sakhalin: from the Pavlovsk Experimental Station of Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry – Leningradsky giant (506.4%), Berel (432.9%) and Viola (423.4%).
