Continual sleep loss and disorder among Emergency Department (ED) nurses may negatively impact the quality of care. ED nurses are expected to act with great pace and accuracy in a crowded and high-risk environment. Detail information regarding sleep quality (SQ) and its components among ED nurses is still limited in Indonesia. The study aimed to explore SQ of ED nurses and its relation to demographic and health-related factors. This study utilized a cross-sectional, correlational descriptive design with 65 samples recruited using total sampling technique from 3 EDs in Central Sulawesi. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis were performed to examine the association between variables. Global PSQI score was 5.5±2.0 with the prevalence of poor sleepers was 43.1%. Only body mass index (BMI) had correlation with SQ (r=0.26; p<0.05). ED nurses are recommended to reach the ideal body weight to get a bigger chance of having a better sleep. Further studies are required to evaluate interventions that might enhance SQ of ED nurses.

ABSTRACT The spraying process is a condition where workers are very likely to be exposed to toxic chemicals contained in pesticides. Problems encountered in the field, workers do not spray with the correct method and do not use a complete PPE. The danger that can occur when spraying is a disturbance in the enzyme Cholinesterase (CHE) in the blood. CHE is an enzyme that is in the body's tissues has a role to keep nerve cells, muscles and glands working properly. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to CHE levels in spraying workers. The research design used analytical research with cross sectional approach. The population was 30 spraying workers. The sampling technique used a total population of 30 people. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis tested by Fisher Exact Test statistical test. Data obtained by questionnaire and examination of CHE levels through blood samples. The results with bivariate analysis revealed p-value of each variable, namely age .143>.05, gender 1,000>.05, education level .374>.05, years of service .071>.05, duration of exposure .02<.05, spraying method 0,000<.05, the last spraying time was .210>.05 and PPE .001 <.05. The conclusion shows that there is a relationship between the length of exposure to pesticides, how to spray and PPE with CHE levels. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the current level of sleep quality among Korean middle-school students using the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and to analyze the factors influencing sleep quality. Methods: The study used a descriptive cross-sectional design and a self-report questionnaire. The participants were 744 middle-school students. The questionnaire included the PSQI and health-related questions, such as the types of diseases they had been diagnosed with and the frequency of hospital admissions. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and linear multiple regression. Results: The global PSQI score was 4.21, which indicated good sleep quality. The major factors that were associated with the sleep quality of middle-school students were the number of diseases they had been diagnosed with (β=.54, p=.001) and atopic dermatitis (β=.32, p=.001). In addition, asthma and the frequency of hospital admissions were significant factors influencing each component of the PSQI.Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that sleep quality was associated with several health-related factors. Thus, nurses, school nurses, and nursing researchers may need to assess the health-related factors associated with adolescents’ sleep quality as part of efforts to improve their sleep quality.

AbstractObjectiveThis research aimed to identify factors influencing infant sleep quality including mother-infant bonding, infant stress, parity, and maternal depression and anxiety, and to analyze possible associations between these variables.MethodA cross-sectional design was adopted to analyze data from mothers and their infants (0–36 months of age) using consecutive sampling. Mothers completed two of several questionnaires in the Indonesian language, including the Mother-Infant Bonding Scale, the Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire, the Symptoms Checklist-90, and an infant stress questionnaire that was specifically designed for this study. The chi-squared test for bivariate analysis and logistic regression were applied to obtain odds ratios for the predictor variables using SPSS version 21 (IBM Corporation, Armonk, NY, USA) for Mac (Apple Inc, Cupertino, CA, USA).ResultsFindings indicated that the proportion of infants with problematic sleep quality was 33.30%. Three predictors were significantly associated with problematic infant sleep quality: mother-infant bonding; infant stress; and parity. However, logistic regression analysis demonstrated that only mother-infant bonding (odds ratio [OR] 1.66 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.15–6.12]) and infant stress (OR 1.29 [95% CI 1.07–2.68]) predicted a 38.7% risk for problematic infant sleep quality.ConclusionResults of the present study indicated that early detection of mother-infant bonding levels and infant stress is very important. It may be valuable to screen sleep habits for better prognosis among infants because good sleep quality is crucial for optimal growth and development. Results of this study will raise awareness of the importance of mother-infant bonding, infant stress, and problematic infant sleep quality.

Peripheral intravenous line placement might lead to some risks and complications in low birth weight (LBW) infants including phlebitis, which shows varying percentages. This study aimed to analyze the causative factors of phlebitis among LBW infants in a perinatology ward. A total of 106 LBW infants who selected using a consecutive sampling technique were analyzed with cross-sectional method. Data were collected when LBW infants started receiving infusions until the infusion was stopped under certain conditions, using the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) phlebitis scale and the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) as the instrument. The variables related to phlebitis under bivariate analysis included the clinical experience of intravenous insertion, infusion pumps, site of insertion, neonatal birth weight, and the administration of total parenteral nutrition. The most significant risk factor of phlebitis was the nurses’ clinical experience of intravenous insertion (< 2 years). Therefore, the results of this study can be considered to improve the quality of nursing care in perinatology ward.

Complex processes appear to link sleep duration and quality with dietary patterns. Numerous studies show healthful benefits of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, but few have examined its association with sleep duration or quality. The current study tested cross-sectional associations of DASH diet quality score with sleep quality among adults. Analyses of participants were from the 2005–2008 wave of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (n = 3941 adults ≥30 years of age, complete data). We performed sex- and age group-stratified multiple OLS regression analyses with DASH total score and components as main predictors and sleep quality as main outcomes, adjusting sequentially for socio-demographic, behavioral and health-related factors. Sex and age differences in associations of DASH with sleep quality, adjusting for covariates, were also examined by incorporating two-way interaction terms between sex/age and the DASH score in each unstratified model. We found that the DASH diet score was inversely related to poor sleep-related daytime dysfunction adjusted by age, sex, demographic and socio-economic factors. Some sex-specific associations were detected between DASH diet component scores and sleep quality. Notably, the potassium DASH component was inversely associated with Factor 1 (“sleepiness and sleep disturbance”) among women. The fiber DASH component was associated with better sleep quality and inversely related to Factor 2 (“sleep-related daytime dysfunction”) in younger subjects. This study indicates health benefits of the DASH diet for sleep duration and quality. Future longitudinal studies and randomized placebo-controlled trials are required to ascertain protective effects.
