During the initial phase until the end of April 2020 Chancellor Angela Merkel focused on the survival of the elderly (those over 80 years of age) when justifying the measures taken against the spreading of Corona virus. In this context she ignored or at least didn’t mention strong arguments concerning the assessment of fundamental rights and of inter-generation fairness. This policy in favour of the elderly reflects a post heroic mindset which neglects coping with future demands in a responsible manner. This change in the general attitude is exemplified by references to Napoleon, Goethe and Max Weber.

AbstractHealthcare robots enable practices that seemed far-fetched in the past. Robots might be the solution to bridge the loneliness that the elderly often experience; they may help wheelchair users walk again, or may help navigate the blind. European Institutions, however, acknowledge that human contact is an essential aspect of personal care and that the insertion of robots could dehumanize caring practices. Such instances of human–robot interactions raise the question to what extent the use and development of robots for healthcare applications can challenge the dignity of users. In this article, therefore, we explore how different robot applications in the healthcare domain support individuals in achieving ‘dignity’ or pressure it. We argue that since healthcare robot applications are novel, their associated risks and impacts may be unprecedented and unknown, thus triggering the need for a conceptual instrument that is binding and remains flexible at the same time. In this respect, as safety rules and data protection are often criticized to lack flexibility, and technology ethics to lack enforceability, we suggest human dignity as the overarching governance instrument for robotics, which is the inviolable value upon which all fundamental rights are grounded.

The present work was carried out by teachers of the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila, its objective was to design an instrument to evaluate the abuse of the elderly in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, to implement with the results obtained, social service programs that provide information on violence in the elderly, identify behaviors of the aggressor, observer and victim, as well as know their fundamental rights and institutions to go to. The instrument was applied at the Geriatric Hospital, 35 older adults participated, aged between 60 and 90 years. It was inspired by the Psychometric Validation of the questionnaire “This is how we get along in school”, and the Questionnaire prepared by INAPAM and SEDESOL, of both instruments resulted in the adaptation consisting of 35 reagents, dispersed in 4 factors: physical, psychological, damage to the property and financial, and sexual harassment. The results show that there is abuse in this group, of 19%, although its manifestation is not very marked, if there is one, corroborating what other studies say that this health problem is silent, by the person of the third age by loyalty to family values or for fear of reprisals from the person who takes care of him.

The article notes that there has been a steady increase in the proportion of the elderly in all regions of the world in recent years, especially distinguished by this characteristic Europe, similar changes are taking place in Ukraine. The agenda of intergovernmental and non-governmental international organizations raises the question of shaping society's attitude to its oldest members as a source of wisdom and experience, recognizing the importance of their contribution to the development of various spheres of public life. At the global and European level, a system of normative acts is being formed aimed at ensuring the enjoyment of fundamental rights and freedoms of the elderly, preventing discrimination on the basis of age and disability, and formulating public policies to promote maximum active and healthy aging. It is emphasized that an understanding of a “decent life” is not limited to the availability of a certain level of material wealth and the availability of social services. Equally important for the elderly is the opportunity for as long as possible (but in accordance with their own desire) to continue working, communicate in a professional environment, maintain a sense of self-importance and need, as well as to receive education. The need for special attention from the state is due to the particular vulnerability of the elderly, in particular, in the conditions of being a client of social institutions and / or in the presence of negative changes in health. The analysis of the Ukrainian social legislation gives grounds to claim that our country does not stand aside from global trends and pays considerable attention to the development of legal norms for improving the quality of life of elderly people. The activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, employment agencies and public organizations also contribute to this. Much of the work of social workers has to do with the care of the elderly, so it is important to provide quality social services, to build a consciously respectful attitude towards the honor and dignity of social service clients, and to empower older generations to live the lifestyle they desire. Establishing and applying in Ukraine a system of standards for determining eligibility and provision of social services, establishing adequate care payments for the elderly, as well as bringing European standards to the standard of other types of social welfare payments that will contribute to improving the quality of life of the elderly .

Little attempt has been made to re-assess the attitudes to aging and old age of the ancient-medieval Greek-speaking world on the basis of the literary remains (which are common to both) since Richardson (1933). There are however some collections (proverbs, sayings, “purple passages” from literature and so forth) which include material revealing attitudes which are in fact quite different from those of today and which can even be surprising. One such collection, the large number of fables which more or less conform to the genre associated with Aesop, is here analyzed to isolate the texts which have to do with aging and the attitudes they reveal. Of the surprisingly few fables which touch upon the matter, most are distinctly complimentary. In most instances the elderly are seen to increase, rather diminish, in certain powers other than physical strength. Fables are found which characterize them as being astute, intelligent, crafty, loyal and, above all, capable of giving sound advice and good leadership when the situation requires it of them. The celebrated Fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, although it was not specifically interpreted in this way in ancient times, best sums up the general attitude: that dogged persistence (the characteristic of the elderly) will ultimately prove superior to all the erratic bursts of youthful speed anytime. Hence Cicero: “Old age is more spirited than youth, and stronger!”

The purpose of the vaccination program organized by the government is to reduce the possibility of transmission of the Corona virus. If given in bulk, the Covid-19 vaccine can encourage the formation of herd immunity in society. So, people with vulnerable ages such as the elderly and infants or people with autoimmunity and people who can't get vaccinated can still get protection from those around them. Community Service Activities by Immigration Polytechnic Cadets in the context of Vaccination in the Tangerang City area received a positive response in the form of appreciation and thanks delivered directly by the Covid-19 Task Force. It is hoped that this activity is a form of concern and involvement in supporting the government's program to suppress the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia so that herd immunity can be formed and the pandemic can be ended immediately.

The corona virus affects deep parts of the respiratory tract and lung alveoli. Like any virus, corona virus primarily affects people with a weakened immune system, taking certain drugs, and the elderly. The primary mortality from this virus in all countries was in older people.1 After 9 months of pandemic development, the course of the pandemic can be analysed, and it is important to do this for each individual country.

Covid-19 has raised multiple topics for reflection; among them is the problem of vaccination against such a pandemic. The article seeks to reveal that the Cuban strategy for immunizing the population against this epidemic is based on ethics, whose touchstone outlines the ethical framework that supports decision-making regarding this process and its implementation in social practice. Although immunization has its own principles and norms, in its application against this disease, due to its purposes and scope, moral principles and fundamental rights are applied specifically to benefit all people: girls, boys, the elderly, women and men. The Cuban case constitutes a benchmark to determine what is fair and what is good in safeguarding the fundamental values that are at stake and are essential for everyone, in the face of Covid-19, such as the right to life and health.
