<abstract><sec> <title>Introduction</title> <p>The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) is an unprecedented global health crisis with emotional and physical impact on health care workers.</p> </sec><sec> <title>Objective</title> <p>The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of fatigue and burnout in nursing staff during the pandemic.</p> </sec><sec> <title>Methods</title> <p>The present study involved nursing staff from hospitals in Greece in February 2021, who completed the Fatigue (FAS) and Burnout (CBI) questionnaires. Gender, age, years of work experience, workplace (COVID-19 or non-COVID-19 wards) and SARS-CoV-2 infection status were recorded.</p> </sec><sec> <title>Results</title> <p>The sample included 593 women and 108 men, with a mean age ± SD: 42.9 ± 9.9 years and 18.14 ± 10.8 years work experience. Slightly more than half, (367, 52.4%) worked in COVID-19 departments. Fifty-six (8%) tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and 14 of them needed to be treated. The mean ± SD FAS and CBI scores were 25.6 ± 7.4 and 46.9 ± 18.8, respectively (67.9% and 42.9% had scores suggestive of fatigue and burnout, respectively). Women showed higher values in both scales (p &lt; 0.01). Subjects working in COVID-19 wards scored significantly higher on both the FAS and CBI scales; they were also younger and with less work experience (p &lt; 0.01). Staff treated for COVID-19 scored higher on the burnout scale (p &lt; 0.01) than the uninfected staff. Fatigue showed a strong positive correlation with burnout (p &lt; 0.01, r = 0.70). Stepwise multiple regression showed that the variation of fatigue was explained by 47.0% and 6.1% by the scores on the subscales of personal and work-related burnout, respectively.</p> </sec><sec> <title>Conclusion</title> <p>In conclusion, high rates of fatigue and burnout were found in the studied population. Nurses working with COVID-19 patients had higher rates of fatigue and burnout compared to those working elsewhere. There was a strong positive correlation (r = 0.70) between burnout and fatigue. Particular attention should be paid to staff who became ill and need to be treated.</p> </sec></abstract>

Summary: The concept of “sense of coherence” (SOC) has been widely recognized since it was first introduced by Antonovsky. The originality and usefulness of the SOC scale and its relation to other psychosocial measures has been the subject of lively debate. The aim of this paper was to test for associations between SOC and work-related psychosocial factors (mainly the Job Demand-Control model), general living conditions, education, and social network factors. Cross-sectional data from a population-based sample of 1782 rural males from nine counties in Sweden were analyzed with a multiple regression technique. The subjects were occupationally active at inclusion and the mean age was 50 years (range 40-60). SOC was assessed with the original 29-item questionnaire. Psychosocial variables and lifestyle factors were assessed using questionnaires and structured interviews. The mean SOC among the subjects was 152.3 (standard deviation, 19.4). A strong negative correlation was found between SOC and job demand, whereas a positive correlation with job control was demonstrated. A positive correlation with general living conditions and with social support was also found. However, there was no correlation to education and occupation. Thus, SOC was shown to be strongly correlated to work-related psychosocial factors and social support, but independent of sociodemographic factors.

ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the tongue and oral cavity proper volume in pre- and post-bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) patients, and to establish whether there was a correlation between them. Materials and Methods A retrospective study that evaluated 12 patients' pre- and post-surgical computed tomography records satisfying the inclusion criteria. Borders were defined for measurement of tongue and oral cavity proper volume. The volume assessment was carried out using 3D slice software. Results The mean difference of tongue volume was 5.7 ± 1.7 cm3, which showed high statistical significance. The mean difference of oral cavity proper volume (OCVP) was 6.9 ± 3.4 cm3 and indicated high statistical significance. A very strong positive correlation existed between pre- and post-surgical tongue volume. Positive correlation was also evident between pre and post - surgical OCVP. Medium positive correlation was noted when the difference between pre- and post-surgical tongue and OCVP were assessed. Conclusions There was a significant change in volume of tongue and oral cavity proper after BSSO advancement surgery. The space around the tongue, position of tongue, and maxillary and mandibular relationship influence the volume of tongue and oral cavity proper.

Objectives: The present study addresses this important issue of NSI and aims at determining their occurrence among the nursing staff in Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) and hospital, Kangra at Tanda (H.P). Methods: A cross sectional study undertaken amongst the nursing staff of Dr RPGMC and hospital, Kangra at Tanda. Results: Out of the 164 respondents, 35(21.3%) reported to having one or more NSIs in their career and the maximum of these were amongst the nurses whose work experience was less than five years (13.4%). Background and purpose: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders usually entangle back spines, neck and upper limbs. Working as a barber paves the ground for probable high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders. This study was designed to evaluate the working postures of sari male barbers by Rapid Entire Body Assessment method and determining the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders using NORDIC questionnaire.Methods: In the present research, 108 Sari barbers working conditions were evaluated using Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) tool, and the data on the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was collected using Nordic questionnaire. Microsoft Excel and SPSS were then applied to analyze the data. Quantitative variables were analyzed using the descriptive statistical methods including mean and standard deviation. Chi-square test and ordinal regression have also been applied to analyze the relationship between different variables and musculoskeletal disorders' prevalence.Results: The mean age the participants was 33.11±8.2 and the mean of work experience was 12±3.7 years. According to the results of the Nordic questionnaire, during 12 past months, 78% of the studied subjects have discovered pain and discomfort at least in one of their 9 body regions. Complaints of musculoskeletal pains in the wrist were also most prevalent (72.1%), followed by the neck (49%) and elbow pains (46.2%). Through REBA Method, the highest frequency of corrective measures was at level 2 (73.9%).Conclusion: The results of the present study indicated that the evaluated subjects working postures required correction. Also, it was found essential to train barbers in what way to identify the biomechanical and ergonomic risk factors and correct working postures.

Objectives: Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is an important parameter of kidney function. Many methods are used to measure GFR namely: inulin clearance, double plasma sample method (DPSM), Gates’ method, and equation based method. DPSM has become the gold standard in clinical research. Gates’ method is routinely practiced at National Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences. Chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaboration (CKD-EPI ) equation is encouraged as it is simple and reliable. The aim of the study was assesment of agreement between Gates’ method and CKD-EPI equation with plasma sample method for estimation of GFR. Patients and methods: This cross sectional observational study was carried out at NINMAS, during July 2017 to June 2018. A total of 70 subjects referred for 99mTC-DTPA renography along with GFR estimation, were included in this study. Result: The mean GFR value evaluated by DPSM, Gates’ and CKD-EPI  equation were, 81.86 ± 22.42, 86.13 ± 26.70 and 78.48 ± 23.87 mL/min/1.73 m2 respectively. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.922) was found between DPSM and Gates’ method and also between DPSM and CKD-EPI equation (r= 0.930). The Gates’ and CKD-EPI equation also showed strong positive correlation (r = 0.872). The mean difference between DPSM and Gates’, between DPSM and CKD-EPI equation,  between Gates’ and CKD-EPI equation were 4.26 ± 10.45, 3.38 ± 8.78  and  7.64 ± 13.09 mL/min/1.73 m2 respectively. Conclusion: Strong positive correlation and excellent agreement were observed between DPSM and Gates’ and also between DPSM and CKD-EPI equation. Strong correlation was also found in between Gates’ and CKD-EPI equation. So, DPSM, Gates’ method and CKD-EPI equation can reflect GFR almost equally and used interchangeably. Bangladesh J. Physician burnout has been recognized as a public health crisis. However, there is a paucity of burnout studies in the context of medical internship. We assessed the prevalence and relationship between various training characteristics, personal variables, resilience, and coping with burnout in a cross-sectional study involving 837 interns from ten hospitals across Malaysian healthcare system. The instrument package included demographic questions, the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, Brief COPE and the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. A total of 754 (90.1%) interns completed the inventories. We found a high prevalence of personal-related (73.3%), work-related (69.1%), and patient-related (43.4%) burnout among Malaysian interns. Multivariable analysis showed female gender (odds ratio (OR):1.50; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.02–2.20), prior work experience (OR: 1.56; 95% CI: 1.05–2.30), and irregular spirituality routines (OR: 1.97; 95% CI: 1.30–2.99) were associated with increased odds of personal-related burnout. Irregular spirituality routines (OR: 2.24; 95% CI: 1.49–3.37) were associated with work-related burnout, while living with other people (OR: 1.77; 95% CI: 1.15–2.73) was associated with patient-related burnout. Lower resilience levels and avoidant copings were associated with personal-, work-, and patient-related burnout. Burnout prevalence among interns is high. The findings support the value of individual-targeted alongside organizational-targeted intervention in burnout reduction. As burnout is prevalent in both years of internship training, ongoing burnout prevention and wellbeing measures are deemed necessary.

Abstract Background: Workplace violence is a relatively common problem in most jobs. The medical personnel especially nursing staff has been exposed to a great deal of violence from patients, companions, and colleagues, and it is necessary to determine its frequency by controlling it. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of workplace violence against nurses. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive study which was performed among 200 qualified nursing staff working in Imam Hossain Hospital in Shahroud of Iran. In this study, after selecting individuals and obtaining informed consent, demographic and workplace violence questionnaires in health sector were collected. Results: Of the 200 participants, 177 (88.5%) were female and the rest were male. The mean age of the participants was 35.8 ± 13.5 years. 81.5% of who were nurses. Also, was showed that psychological violence with the prevalence of 68.5% during the last year was the most violent occurrence against the nurses working in this center. Workplace violence variables were significantly associated with job of nurses (p<0.033), work experience of less than 5 years (p<0.027), work of service in emergency ward (p<0.029), work shift of nurses in circulate shirt (p<0.001), violent male sex (p<0.036) and time of violence in discharge time (p<0.011). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the incidence of violence against nurses was relatively common and the most frequent was psychological abuse. Although it is not easy to accurately calculate violence against medical staff, it is important to carefully examine the same.

OBJECTIVE: The study is conducted to evaluate the relationship between testicular volume measured by ultrasound and conventional sperm parameters (volume, concentration, total count, motility and morphology) in Albanian subfertile males and to determine a normal limit value of the testicular volume.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 500 males were observed for this study. The testicular volumes of all subjects were measured by ultrasonography. The semen samples were collected by the process of masturbation after 3-5 days of ejaculatory abstinence and were analyzed according to WHO criteria 2010.RESULTS: Testicular volume has a strong positive correlation with sperm count, total count and motility and a positive correlation with semen volume.CONCLUSION: Testicular volume has a direct correlation with semen parameters and the critical total testicular volume indicating normal testicular function is approximately 26.6 ml (the mean testicular volume 13.3 ml). The measurement of testicular volume can be helpful for assessing fertility at the initial physical examination.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has generated awareness of the value of the direct care workforce to provide care in settings serving those most at risk from the disease. However, few studies have gauged the impact of COVID-19 on this workforce and their pandemic-related challenges. The purpose of this study was to examine the challenges and stress experienced by direct care workers (N=1,414) and their perceptions of preparation and quality of employer communication during this health crisis. Nursing home (NH) workers reported separation from family members and understaffing as the top external and work-related challenges. They felt adequately prepared and gave their employers high marks for communicating with them during the pandemic. NH direct care workers were more likely to report increased workload and understaffing as a challenge compared to workers in home and community-based settings. They also experienced a significantly higher number of work-related challenges compared to workers in assisted living.

Background Blood and certain body fluids pose the greatest threat to health due to sharp injuries spreading blood borne pathogens that cause serious illness when transmitted. Despite the high sickness rate, sanitation staff lacked awareness regarding protections from contacting soiled materials while handling biomedical wastes. Objective The study aims to find out the knowledge and practices on preventive measures of blood borne diseases among non-medical attendants. Method Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to find out the knowledge and practices on preventive measures on blood borne diseases among all the 53 non-medical personnel in Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University Hospital. Respondents scoring ≥50% on knowledge score were taken as having adequate knowledge. A Nepali version of pre-tested structured and semi-structured questionnaire was used to conduct interview. Participation in the study was voluntary and written consent was taken before inquiry. Outcomes were measured in both descriptive and inferential ways. Result The adequate knowledge was found among 86.8% of the respondents on the blood borne diseases whereas 50.9% of them had proper practice on it. Although, there is poor positive correlation between the mean knowledge score and literacy, the correlation was significant (r = 0.341, p < 0.05). Alike, the mean practice score and work experience demonstrated significant correlation (r = 0.319, p <0.05). Conclusion Although knowledge score of male was high, female had higher practices score. Both knowledge and practice score increased due to the participation in the training programs and increment in experience. There was significant positive correlation between the mean knowledge score and literacy, and the mean practice score and work experience.
