Antecedents of Green Consumerism

While green consumerism is considered as a solution to ecological problems, it is also seen as a good source of income and competitive advantage for commercial enterprises. It is extremely difficult for producers and marketers to design and position their green marketing efforts. Because green consumerism is not only a tendency towards products, but also a multi-faceted approach that varies from political struggle to ethical orientation. Therefore, green consumerism as a form of consumption is influenced by severe factors. Each green consumer exhibits different motivational drivers regarding to the attributes of a green product, service, or act. Therefore, it is vital to understand different preferences and different motivations among green customers. This chapter reviews the antecedents that affect the green purchasing behaviors of consumers. Factors affecting green consumerism are examined under three main headings: endogenous antecedents such as emotion, exogenous antecedents such as social norms, and structural antecedents such as price of the product.

According to Porter (1985), in the market of competition, competitive advantage lies in the center of business activities of an enterprise. For this reason, one of the most important factors for any kind of business is to build or construct a good and stable competitive advantage. The wealth of a company cannot be durable if the company does not maintain its competitive advantage. Improving the competitive advantage is one of the first and foremost concerns of every business. In the process of integration, all economies have to try their best to fully compete with each other to gain the best. Among the economy sectors, the retail enterprises are of those who have to apply marketing strategies to strengthen their competitive advantage. With good and suitable marketing strategies, businesses can increase the number of their customer, have goods and products attractive to consumers and finally gain the expected profits. In Vietnam, the market economy started at the end of 1986, much later than the world market economy, so the application of competitive advantages from the macro level to micro level (here the enterprise level) has been slow. For the sector of retailing, especially supermarket retailing, the market scale of Vietnam is much smaller than that of other markets in the region. However, there are basic factors for a fast development in Vietnam such as: big population with the kind of young population, high rate of economic growth rate and non-stop improved living standard. That is the fact that the potential for retailing development in Vietnam is not small and supermarket business in the future is big. In Vietnam, especially in Ho Chi Minh market, there are quite a lot of supermarket chains which are in operation nowadays such as Co-op mart, Citimart, Maximart, B-smart, Shop&Go and so on? These supermarkets are trying their best to gain more customers. For this purpose, the researcher chose Citimart as a case study in this research. Citimart is one of most favorable supermarket in Ho Chi Minh. In this thesis, the researcher studies the factors affecting the competitive advantage of Citimart, and then find out the solutions for the policy makers to have good business strategies of Citimart.

Dredger-fill silt has been used in the port of Tianjin, China to reclaim land; however, the dredger-fill silt has no soil ecological function. Translating the silt into soil rapidly and accelerating the soil-forming process are key to solving the ecological problems of the Dredge–Fill project. This study measured 15 chemical properties of the dredger-fill silt for 8 years of the soil forming process to explore fertility changes and the critical factors affecting soil formation. The results showed that: (1) the salinity of silt changed from severe to mild with a reduction in Na+ and Cl- concentration. Other ion concentrations changed slightly. (2) Effective nutrients significantly decreased during soil formation. Soil organic matter (SOM),the nitrate-nitrogen, available phosphorus (A-P) and available potassium (A-K) decreased by 26.22%, 86.23%, 45.92%, 33.61% respectively, indicating severe nutrients loss. (3) Principal component analysis showed that silt fertility decreased significantly and the total soil fertility loss was severe. This study has significance for the artificial improvement of silt.

Abstrak: Efek Nilai Konsumsi terhadap Niat Pembelian Kembali pada Green Product. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menerapkan teori nilai konsumsi untuk menentukan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi perilaku pilihan konsumen mengenai produk ramah lingkungan, dan meneliti pengaruh nilai-nilai konsumsi seperti nilai fungsional, nilai sosial, nilai emosional, nilai kondisional, dan nilai epistemis terhadap niat membeli kembali produk ramah lingkungan. Populasi penelitian ini adalah konsumen yang menggunakan produk ramah lingkungan yang ada di kota Surakarta. Penelitian ini mengambil sampel sebanyak 100 responden secara purposive. Analisis data menggunakan analisis regresi berganda. Berdasarkan data dapat diketahui bahwa nilai konsumsi yang terdiri dari nilai fungsional, nilai sosial, nilai emosional, nilai kondisional dan nilai epistemik terbukti berpengaruh positif terhadap niat pembelian kembali pada produk ramah lingkungan. Kata kunci: Produk ramah lingkungan, nilai konsumsi, sikap konsumen, niat pembelian kembali. Abstract: The Effect of Consumption Values to Repurchase Intention of Green Products. This study was aimed to apply the theory of consumption values to determine the factors affecting the behavior of consumers regarding the selection of green products, and examine the influence of consumption values such as the functional value, social value, emotional value, conditional value, and epistemic value to repurchase intention of green products. The population of this research is green product customers in Surakarta city. This research selected 100 respondents purposively. Based on the data showed that the consumption values that consist of functional value, social value, emotional value, conditional value and epistemic value had a positive effect on repurchase intention of green products. Keywords: Green product, consumption values, consumer behavior, repurchase intention.

Attracting and retaining profitable customers to new and unfamiliar products and services is one of the challenges that the banking fraternity is faced with today. The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the important factors that influence attitude in the Islamic banking. Probability sampling was used and 250 questionnaires were distributed among participants based at a local university in Johannesburg. The results revealed that there is a positive relationship between product awareness, social norms, community influence and attitude towards Islamic banking. Also, the results indicated that most of the respondents were not aware of the Islamic banking. The bank practitioners and marketers were, therefore, recommended to take a focused approach on creating awareness of the Islamic banking. Marketers can target community leaders or opinion leaders in order to shed light on Islamic banking to the rest of their community. Keywords: product awareness, social norms and community influence. The objective of the chapter is to examine the factors that are essential for the green purchase behavior among the young consumers in India. The study consists of 343 young respondents, who were surveyed with the help of structured measurement instrument. The sample has been analyzed with the help of exploratory factor analysis and linear regression analysis. It was found in the study that the awareness towards the green product, attitude towards eco-labeling, and satisfaction via green products are significantly and positively linked to the green purchase behavior, whereas the attitude towards green pricing and ecologically concerned consumers are not associated with the green purchase behavior.

This study deals with a competitive knowledge network (CKN) where participants desire to pass their personally important exams, and henceforth want to contribute and seek knowledge about exam-related issues they need to solve. Besides, CKN members are basically competing with each other since they all aim to pass the same exams. Therefore, from the contributor’s perspective, if the advisor fears that his/her advice can be detrimental to his or her own benefits, knowledge sharing (KS) intention within the CKN may be hindered by their expectation of competitive advantage. However, few studies were done about the effects of such fear and a sense of competition on KS continuance intention in the context of CKN. In this sense, our study aims to elucidate the effects of competition and fear on KS continuance intention in a mobile CKN. By using 296 valid questionnaires, we obtained very meaningful conclusions such that competition is a driving force rather than an obstacle to KS among CKN members, and fear also enhances members’ sustainable KS intention.

Due to globalization, gaining competitive advantage has become an important problem for all enterprises. Especially hotel enterprises can face with certain problems such as providing similar and easily imitable products and services. Therefore, they are in the need of employees delivering services in such an innovative way that cannot be imitated easily. First in this chapter, the factors affecting the innovative behaviors of employees in hotel enterprises were examined in detail. Second, it was explained how employees’ innovative behaviors, which would bring a significant competitive advantage to hotel enterprises, could shape consumer perceptions and attitudes. Lastly, the matters to be taken into notice by hotel enterprises were mentioned and it was tried to pave the way for future researches so that hotel enterprises can benefit from their employees’ innovative behaviors in a more efficient way.

Firms are constantly looking for ways to build and strengthen their competitiveness. The most important dimensions of the firm’s competitiveness are the firm’s competitive position as well as the firm’s market success. An important role among the most significant factors affecting the firm’s competitiveness is assigned to the firm’s capabilities, including logistics capabilities. The aim of the article is to present the possibilities of the influence of the firm’s logistics capabilities on the firm’s competitive position as well as the firm’s achievement of market success. In particular, the following issues are presented in the article: (1) the nature of the firm’s capabilities, including dynamic capabilities perceived as its strategic capabilities; (2) the firm’s competitiveness and its basic characteristics; (3) the firm’s competitive advantage with its main dimensions concerning the competitive position and market success; (4) logistics capabilities perceived as the firm’s strategic capabilities affecting the firm’s competitive position and achievement of market success in light of the research.
